It’s finally here, the fourth season of the yearly Ilya spinoff series. After the lukewarm filler-like third season, I was casting doubts if Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya 3rei would further lose its way. I mean, what else is there for her and her friends to achieve anymore? They’ve collected all the Class Cards, save the world from a certain doom and certainly had lots of loli yuri friendship moments in between. Ilya has achieved a lot. What more could she achieve some more? Unless you’re talking about Miyu being captured and taken back to a parallel world where she came from. Okay. Time to add rescuing a best friend from the forces of evil to the list. Yeah, it’s going to be like Mario invading Bowser’s castle to rescue Princess Peach. Sort of.

Episode 1
Ilya and her friends just finished studying at Miyu’s place. As they leave, Ilya accidentally lets it slip that she is going to ‘combine’ with Miyu. Tatsuko thinks it is some robot while Mimi believes it is yuri. Ilya has no choice but to hint Mimi is somewhat right but the rest don’t really understand about it. Back in Ilya’s room, Ruby tries to inject her with some serum but luckily Sapphire stops her. I guess Ruby has been bored ever since but Ilya is glad that such peaceful days would last. You know, that always seems to be a jinx because here come Rin and Luvia barging in for an emergency. They are told that the crater and the effects of their epic battle from last season are all missing. Something weird is happening. When they reach the site, a couple of nasty powerful b*tches appear, Angelica and Beatrice Flowerchild. They know who Miyu is and want her to come back, although Miyu doesn’t really want to. After staving off the rest, they carry Miyu back into the portal. Ilya can only watch as Miyu ekes out a weak cry for help. She tries to give chase but the next thing she knows, the entire place is snowing. It’s summer now. A big crater is over her town and when she rushes back home, there is no home! Poor Ilya can only weep at this strange predicament. No people around and the town in ruins. But then she had to stumble upon the biggest idiot, Tanaka. Talking to her is like talking to a wall because she doesn’t know anything! On top of that she is annoyingly carefree! It seems Tanaka is suffering from some sort of amnesia too. Oh boy. Ilya had to meet a person worse than her. While taking refuge at a playground, Tanaka suddenly says Miyu has been captured by the Ainsworth family. She heard Miyu had jumped to a parallel world but is now back. Ilya interrogates her for more but it seems Tanaka herself doesn’t know why she is saying this. It just came to her head. She also doesn’t understand these ‘memories’ she is having. Unfortunately Beatrice has found them.

Episode 2
Beatrice uses a card to enhance her arm to attack. Before she could finish them, she gets a call to get her ass back. Upon learning that Beatrice is from Ainsworth, Tanaka remembers it is her mission to destroy them. But she doesn’t remember anything else. Then she collapses because of hunger. Thankfully the ramen owner (Kirei?) takes them in and cooks them a nice hot… Spicy mapo tofu?! Eat it all up or else!!! Ilya learns that the crater is caused by a gas explosion 5 years ago and the people now live in the outskirts of town. Oh, it always snows in summer. But there is a more pressing issue. Because the girls don’t have money to pay, the owner is going to chop them up! You mean he wasn’t treating them? Luckily a kid comes in and pays for them. Ilya is wary of him because he is Gilgamesh! Or Gil as he would like to be called. The one she fought with last season. Gil admits he lost and holds no grudge. He is still alive because Ilya blasted away his dark side. Gil knows about Ainsworth because they summoned him by the cards they created using Miyu as their Holy Grail. Since Ilya wants to save Miyu and Tanaka destroy Ainsworth, Gil leads them to Ainsworth’s base which is right in the centre of the crater. Using some stealth cloth to sneak in, once they cross over a hidden barrier, Ilya is shocked to see a different world. Blue sky. Luscious greens. Grand castle. Paradise! Entering via the back door, they end up in some waterway. There is also a prison cell nearby. Ilya thought it is Miyu but it turns out to be a male’s voice. He claims he is Miyu’s brother (Shirou?) and is in here because he failed after fighting Ainsworth and lost. At least he freed Miyu from this world but now he is sad Miyu is back here again. He is glad Miyu has friends and hopes they can save her. You bet Ilya is going to do that. Ilya wants to free him so they can rescue Miyu together but here comes Angelica attacking in Gilgamesh’s style.

Episode 3
Gil certainly could counter Angelica’s attack since he has the same abilities. Miyu’s brother tells them Miyu is being held at the top of the centre tower. Gil tells the girls to achieve their goals as he will fight Angelica whose card is his goal. The girls enter the tower but are met with Beatrice. Despite taking a point blank blast, Tanaka is still in one piece. No matter how she is stabbed or cut, there are no injuries on Tanaka. But the pain is real. This only makes Beatrice happy as she can torment her for fun. Ilya tries to intervene and fight back by pulling out some wood hidden in the rubble of wasted treasures. That wood turns out to be Ruby. Time to transform into a magical girl and kick ass. Ilya lacks firepower but has to use the risky move of using a Class Card to power up (there were some injuries the last time she pulled off that crazy stunt) and become Caster version. But she is still no match for Beatrice’s power. Ilya cannot hold on blocking her move and that is when Tanaka comes in to protect her. Meanwhile, Gil turns the tables on Angelica and he purposely wants to drag on the fight to have fun. However they are interrupted when Tanaka is send blasting through the walls. Time for a tactical retreat. Miyu felt the ground shaking. Not an earthquake so she peeks out her window. She sees Ilya. Their eyes briefly met. Tears stream down her cheeks. Don’t know why Ilya is here? To rescue you of course! Didn’t you plead for help before? As they run out of the barrier, Beatrice and Angelica continue to give chase. Beatrice powers up her lightning hammer for some serious damage. However a sniper’s shot throws her off focus. A voice then tells them to back down and return. Don’t be rude for a lady’s homecoming. This voice identifies himself as Darius and he is the head of Ainsworth. Ilya knows she is no match right now but vows to rescue Miyu. She lets off with a final word that Miyu is not their tool. The sniper turns out to be Chloe and Bazett just arriving at the perimeters of the crater.

Episode 4
Ilya hugs Chloe once she reunites with her but soon collapses. She wakes up in the infirmary and attended by Bazett. Ilya notices Tanaka as her usual airhead self but all her wounds are completely healed up. She thanks her for protecting her. Chloe then informs the rest what they know. They are definitely in a parallel world where Miyu is from. Everyone who arrived here at different points in time is due to some discrepancy. Angelica is holding an Archer card while Beatrice is Thor. You mean that Norse God of Thunder? Hey, what kind of Class Card is that?! Haven’t heard of it before. Since Tanaka’s stomach is growling, they take a break as Gil orders from that mapo guy again. Trauma for Ilya. She’ll pass. Later Chloe goes to confront Ilya weeping and complaining about the predicament she is in. This annoys her so Chloe transforms and tells Ilya to do the same because they’re going to beat the crap out of each other. Ilya uses Lancer and Rider to defend against offensive Chloe. She cannot understand what made her so mad. If it is about rescuing Miyu, her feelings haven’t changed since and vowed to do so. However Chloe says that Miyu never once complained about being overwhelmed or lonely. The anxiety Ilya is feeling now is what Miyu faced in their world. As Miyu has never revealed those feelings, as her friends they can’t complain. All they can do is wait till the day she decides to open up to them. Ilya transforms into Saber to defeat Chloe. Chloe fakes passing out so that she could steal a hot loli yuri kiss! Yikes! Time to remind us about their relationship. Deep tongue too? Wow. They’re really good at without making it look like child porn. Now that is what I call kiss and make up.

Episode 5
There seems to be discrepancies in what caused the crater because Bazett and Chloe heard a meteorite smashed into it. When Ilya goes outside, she sees a little girl, Erica trying to climb in from the school wall but got stuck. So now her butt is showing. She is trying to act tough in the name of her lady pride but after eventually Ilya helps to get her down, she starts calling Ilya her big sister in which Ilya totally loves the ring of it. However Erica needs to go to the toilet but puts up a brave front. To make matters worse, Tanaka aggravates the situation by biting her hand! WTF?! It causes Erica to wet herself although she keeps denying that in the aftermath. When they all take a bath, Ilya tries to ask Tanaka for anything if she remembers about herself. None. She remembers only as far back as meeting Ilya. Suddenly Tanaka kisses Ilya! She saw Chloe do that to her and thought it is a way for them to reconcile. Ilya you lucky… Or not. Tanaka adds she is thankful to Ilya because she has never felt lonely ever since meeting her. She will complete her mission to destroy Ainsworth no matter what happens to her. Tanaka and Erica continue to hate each other and argue. Ilya tries to mediate and tell Tanaka not to cause others pain if she herself doesn’t like it. But Tanaka doesn’t listen and now Ilya argues with her. Erica sees her father is here to pick her up. Ilya goes with her and greets him while letting him into the school gates. While he talks about his daughter, Ruby gets a transmission from Sapphire. She explains she was caught with Miyu but she somehow let her escape and is now in hiding. The reason she can contact her now is because the barrier is weakened thanks to Ainsworth’s family head stepping out. Ilya realizes to late the familiar voice of Erica’s father. Yup, Darius in the flesh.

Episode 6
When Bazett and Chloe come out to attack, Darius puts forth a giant ice dome. He just wants to talk with Ilya. While he proudly proclaims Miyu as his Holy Grail, he starts going crazy explaining all the adventures Miyu had in this world. He also thanks Ilya for collecting his cards but he isn’t going to have her return them. Ilya doesn’t think Miyu told him everything when she has never said it to her friends. Tanaka wakes up in a trance after sensing an Ainsworth. She easily destroys the dome. Bazett and Chloe attack but it’s not easy to take the head down. Even when Ilya uses Excalibur to strike, Darius can stop it with a single hand. After pinning them down with his gravitational-like powers, he is about to destroy Tanaka but when he hears her say Counterfeiter, he decides to let them all live. The girls are bitter about their defeat especially Ilya who heard Erica’s parting words about being a liar for hurting others because she tried to hurt her dad. So they ask Gil about Darius’ powers which are believed to be Noble Phantasms but he too is unsure. Very odd because all Noble Phantasms originated from Gilgamesh. Ilya knows it is no use lamenting on their loss and need to find a way to defeat Ainsworth. Darius returns and takes Miyu for ‘work’. No, not loli prostitution. She resists at first but reminds her how her brother will suffer. He uses her blood to activate some myth inscriptions. They have already 5 and need 2 more for completion. Miyu is exhausted after this and thrown back to her room. When she wakes up, Erica is by her side. She talks about Ilya and how she tried to hurt her father. Miyu understands quickly she was trying to rescue her. This causes Erica to be worried because this could mean Miyu could go away again and she doesn’t want to be lonely. Miyu then hugs her and thanks her for her kindness. Erica would prefer to have Miyu by her side and asks if she prefers Ilya. Yes. Oh, look at the time. Time for bed. When Chloe wakes up the next morning, she finds Ilya missing.

Episode 7
Ilya realizes she has been kidnapped but she is now in the body of a stuffed doll! Chloe and Bazett talk to Gil about Ilya’s kidnapping. He thinks the enemy snuck in using the stealth cloth that Ilya lost during their invasion. That’s why Bazett’s alarm didn’t go off. It seems Angelica wanted to brainwash Ilya but since she couldn’t as a section of her mind is sealed off, she transferred her entire mind into this doll. This is part of Erica’s plan because she thought Miyu would be happy to have Ilya around but since daddy won’t just let Ilya live here like that, she sought Angelica’s help for this. Now her body is inserted with a fake personality. But since she is confused which Ilya is which, Angelica suggests the vessel is more important so Erica tosses aside the doll and brings the body to Miyu. Ilya uses her utmost determination to move but unfortunately bumps into Beatrice. Oh no. She takes her back to her room. Ilya fears she won’t escape from her tortuous room but what’s this? There are lots of posters and objects of a guy named Julian?! Who the f*ck is he?! Even cringing is how Beatrice unleashes her perverted side and those pre-recordings of Julian’s oral abuse which Beatrice loves. Sick! This is definitely torture watching her like this. Suddenly Beatrice has mood swings. She is depressed and wants the world to end! But ripping off her other stuffed doll’s heads! Oh sh*t! Luckily Ilya is saved when Rin and Luvia barge into clean up trash. They’re working here as maids?! But they looked hypnotized! They clean up all the dolls as trash and even throw away the Julian ones!!! Beatrice is mad and wants to beat them up but stops short since it will return them to normal. Beatrice kicks them all out and tells them to dump the trash in Erica’s room since all the dolls belong to her in the first place. Ilya tries to hint to Rin and Luvia. Get the hint? Moving trash. Somehow Ilya manages to speak. Now you get it? Talking trash. Trash is trash and must be rid off! Run! When Erica brings Ilya’s body to her, Miyu sees her lifeless state and cries. Erica is forced to leave and doesn’t understand why. But she is sad when Rin and Luvia dumped her broken dolls from Beatrice. Ilya manages to escape to the attic. She sees a mountain of rats but beneath them is Sapphire. So she’s been hiding here? As they sense Rin and Luvia coming, Sapphire suggests transforming using her. Ilya doll version? Will this work? Can she even fight like this?

Episode 8
Sapphire explains Rin and Luvia also had their minds transplanted somewhere and these are just fake personalities. To bring them back, some sort of bodily harm must be done. Too bad Ilya’s power is too weak so the chase continues. When Ilya almost unleashes a dangerous attack, they go into hostility mode and send Ilya crashing down into Erica’s room. What’s this? Erica cutting up Ilya’s clothes and wanting to rape her?! Actually she doesn’t know how to take it off and like how rich people think, they cut the clothes. Rin and Luvia are about to continue their attack but Angelica orders them to stop. Angelica takes Ilya’s body as hostage and gives her a choice to work with them or else. Ilya chides them for viewing humans as tools but Angelica says anything that fulfils its roles are tools and humans are no exception. When Ilya attacks, Angelica cuts up the doll’s body into pieces. But even as a head, Ilya could still move and uses Sapphire’s magic to hit a mark on her body’s chest, returning her mind back. Since Erica’s room is too small to fight, they go outside but the place has spatial distortion so the outlay of the castle is different than the last time. Rin and Luvia attack using their cards and although they are weak Noble Phantasms, they have plenty of it. Due to spatial distortions, Ilya gets owned. Meanwhile Chloe wonders if a rescue operation meeting is necessary. Shouldn’t they just take action now to save Ilya? Gil doesn’t want to rush it. He explains to them Ainsworth’s goal the same way Angelica explains everything to Ilya. Ainsworth’s goal is to save the world. This world’s mana is running out and obviously you would have noticed it is now snowing instead of summer. This is due to the shift in Earth’s rotation. In a few more generations, all will die out. Therefore Ainsworth is on a mission to save the world using Miyu as the Holy Grail and Ilya’s attempts could only be seen as rebellion. Therefore they have to make a choice now whether to save the world or save Miyu. Kill the world or kill Miyu. You can’t have both.

Episode 9
Angelica even shows an out-of-this-world presentation to explain the hell lot of mumbo-jumbo. Whatever. So it seems they’re going to use Miyu’s life to change into organisms that can survive in the new world. Adaptation? Why not just ask for unlimited mana and reverse everything? Yeah, too complicated for me to understand. Angelica could have killed Ilya had she not used her Assassin version to escape. At this point Ilya is confused about her choices. Erica praises how good Ilya is to Miyu. But when she learns Angelica is going to kill Ilya as a lesson, Miyu is shocked and wonders if Erica knows what she is saying. Well yeah, she thought dying means living your life as a stuffed doll. At this point too, Darius heard about it all and wants to know more. Ilya could have died again if not for somebody coming to save her. Chloe, it’s your turn. Chloe is steadfast in her choice. She will save Miyu. No doubts about it. Between a world she doesn’t know and a girl she knows, the choice is obvious. So a girl’s life outweighs the world? Angelica chides her flawed thinking because even if they win, the world will be in ruins and they’ll all still die. Chloe knows this too. But to choose what is precious to her, the world or someone close, it is always the latter. Chloe is already shocked Rin and Luvia are fighting with Angelica. Now she has to hear Ilya doubting her choice. Darius is spanking Erica real hard! He is mad she ruined his plans. Miyu stops him and threatens if Ilya dies, she will kill herself. Darius can’t let her do that and shows her what her friends are talking about right now. Chloe talks about a person she knows who tried to sacrifice a few to save many but ended up doing the opposite despite knowing it is wrong. Because he chose to be a man instead of a hero of justice. It’s time for Ilya’s turn to save Chloe. It might look like she used her own body but Assassin’s technique allows her to use a clone double. Ilya still can’t agree with Chloe’s choice. Now, before you jump to conclusions and be disappointed, Ilya explains that all is important to her. She can’t sacrifice and choose. That’s why she is going to save both the world and Miyu! Yeah. Typical hero answer we should have all expected. So how exactly is she going to do that? Well, that’s what the Holy Grail is for, right? You should just entrust everything to the cup. Wow. So simple that I didn’t see it coming.

Episode 10
So wish upon the Holy Grail for humanity’s happiness? No wonder Darius is laughing his ass off. With Miyu now spewing crap about hope, Darius laughs even harder and finds it more amusing. He dares Ilya to steal Miyu from him. But first, Gil and Bazett sneak up to bind Angelica and then free Luvia and Rin. Back to our lovely idiots. Chloe then fires at the tower to make an open space so Ilya can reunite with Miyu and give her back Sapphire. Ilya then fights Darius and stabs him in the heart. Because he is the process of the Holy Grail ritual, his powers slowly becoming undone. Angelica desperately goes to protect her master and only now Beatrice joins in. She just finished ‘enjoying’ herself, huh? Erica must be confused. How do you explain God to a kid? Because Ilya doesn’t want to sacrifice anyone and save everybody, and if Miyu wants to leave Ainsworth, what does that make Erica? Isn’t she her friend? Miyu knows Erica has only known the world from Ainsworth’s point of view. So like telling how Santa never existed, Miyu says she is never Erica friend. That’s a bitter pill to swallow. Angelica reminds them that Miyu’s brother is still in their hands. Oops. Forgot about that, didn’t she? Don’t worry. Gil has already rescued him. Phew. It’s like a horror movie when Darius’ skin melts off! His true form materializes and there is one giant dark cube hovering over the sky. What the hell is this magic? Nobody knows. Maybe Miyu does. That isn’t Darius actually. He died a long time ago. This is someone who hid his death and clung to his ghost: Julian, Darius’ son. I see. Wait. What? Julian warns Ilya if she tries to destroy his myth, he will personally erase her like how he demonstrates he erased one of her Class Cards. Erica is sad that Miyu doesn’t see her as a friend despite treating her well. A cue for Julian to say that he is her only ally. They will realize Ainsworth’s ambition. Erica tries to act strong and just when you think it can’t get any worse, the cube pours black goo all over Erica. Coming out from the goo are Heroic Spirits. Super tough Heroic Spirits! Our ladies have a tough time handling one and will soon be overwhelmed. This is when Julian tells Miyu if she wants to stop this disaster, come with him. Thankfully Ilya saves her again before she makes the wrong choice. The Heroic Spirits all fire. They’re doomed, right? Except that somebody’s super barrier protected them all. Because here comes Miyu’s brother to the fore. It’s his turn to kick ass and repay his debt for saving his sister. Hey look, it’s Shirou!

Episode 11
Can you believe how f*cking powerful Shirou is?! I just wonder why he didn’t break himself out earlier. Angelica stands in his way to reach Julian. They’re both on equal footing till Chloe comes to aid him. They defeat her because Chloe somehow could use a mysterious power she just understood by watching Shirou. Huh? Just when Shirou is going to get Julian’s ass, this crazy lady stops and injures him. Who is this new character? Sakura?! Dominatrix version?! It seems crazy Sakura claims Shirou cannot kill or be killed. Because she will be the one to do that. Miyu’s big brother senses start tingling so she runs towards Shirou and against Sapphire’s advice, she uses the Archer card to transform. Beatrice hits Shirou away like a golf ball. Chloe and Ilya retrieve him but Beatrice cuts off their path so they have to continue fighting the unlimited Heroic Spirits while Rin heals Shirou with her weak powers. It’s going to take forever. As Miyu fights Sakura, she starts to feel her body being taken over by something else. She starts talking and acting arrogant. However Julian pulls out that card but before he can dispose of it, Gil steals it back. He finally got his other half back. Julian has a bad feeling if Gil joins the fight and orders Beatrice to kill him before he uses his powers. And before Sakura can kill Miyu, Julian impersonates as Shirou and tells her to back down. This is his sister. As you wish. Gil turns his sights on Julian after he binds Beatrice. But he hears Erica’s voice telling him that not to interfere because big brother will save the world. Gil laughs at this pitiful abomination and calls her the mud doll of calamity. Ilya’s side is having it tougher now since all the Heroic Spirits are starting to use their Noble Phantasm. Rin tells Ilya to take Shirou and run because if they keep this up, all of them will die. Remember, Ilya made her choice that she’ll save everything. She’s not going to run anymore and keep that promise as she powers up her Excalibur.

Episode 12
Tanaka finally wakes up. Good for her. Erica tells Julian that she can’t open it. This has Julian remember that Gil told him 2 Holy Grails are needed if he wants his wish realized. After that, Gil left this world seeing he accomplished what he came for. Ilya might be holding her ground well but it will be no time the Heroic Spirits will outlast her. That is when Tanaka throws her super fireball into the battlefield. It becomes a flaming sword. Erica can tell this is bad for them. Ilya picks it up and manages to cut through the goo and stopping the eternal mudflow to the Heroic Spirits. Before Julian and Erica escape, he allows Beatrice to unleash a very powerful attack. He hints to Ilya that even in the event if they can save both Miyu and the world, that’s all to it. Beatrice directs the attack to Ilya’s friends. Again Shirou plays hero by protecting them but this might cost his life. So this is Julian’s warning? Rin doesn’t have any magical powers left to heal him. Everyone is so sad and down at the inevitable when Bazett gives back Rin’s amulet that she found when she first entered this world. How convenient. Because of that Shirou is saved! Yeah, wait till the last minute till he is at death’s doorstep, will you?! The sword is actually Tanaka’s arm and it is chasing Ilya around! Creepy! Shirou takes his saviours back to his home. Wow. A giant traditional Japanese mansion! Ilya, how the f*ck is your family so poor?! Angelica also follows them since she has been abandoned. If you’re wondering why Tanaka’s arm is harassing Ilya and Chloe in the bath, it is because she is mad that they forgot all about her and left her behind at the school! But now she is here, she can stop whining and go take a warm bath. Later Ilya and Chloe see Miyu being spoiled by Shirou. Once she realizes it, she becomes very embarrassed. Chloe continues teasing her and Ilya is glad to see sides of Miyu she has never seen before. Shirou can’t be happier that his wish for Miyu to have friends has come true. Julian, Erica and Beatrice are in an alternate space. He is sure their wishes cannot exist together and it won’t be long before he will use Ilya and Miyu again.

Special 1
When Tatsuko suggests hanging out at a cool place, the girls have a bad feeling about this. Mimi believes to give her a chance. Or else she will curse you! They realize too late that they have been had because it is training under the waterfall! And Tatsuko is the first one to fail. So while the rest ‘complain’ about this usual training, Suzuka is about to chastise Mimi when she sees her sketching passionately. Shirou and Issei are also training under the waterfall. As they get out, Shirou trips and Issei grabs him. It looked like a yaoi scene! Mimi and Suzuka become fully ecstatic about this new potential and discovery. Well, I guess they levelled up. Except for Ilya who doesn’t like the idea of her brother being used for weird fantasies.

Special 2
Taking place at a time when Chloe and Bazett first arrived at this world. They waited in the mountains near to crater to see if more people would appear. As nothing happens, Bazett goes to gather food. I suppose Chloe was so focused on keeping her eye on the crater that she didn’t realize she was handed a tree root! Not once but twice! So screw food. She can do without it for a few days. But what about the power to fight? Chloe needs some magical energy and Bazett is willing to help. Chloe then pushes her down and starts giving a hot steamy lesbian kiss. Well, too bad that was just her imagination. A few days later as nothing more happened, they decide to go find a place to warm themselves up. Chloe is sceptical of the roots she is bringing. She couldn’t be more thankful they are used as fire source for a hot bath in a barrel. Refreshed, they decide to head back up and gather some food. How does sautéed tree root sound now?

Special 3
Tanaka feels she is missing wearing something albeit she won’t take off her gym clothes she is wearing to wear something else. Since she isn’t opposed to wearing clothes over it, Ruby is using this as an excuse this might restore her memories. Aside Tanaka wearing various clothes, Ilya and Chloe also have to follow. And Ruby is capturing it all on camera. So they’re back to square one when nothing happens. Bazett then returns as she has found a missing panty from the toilet. Tanaka recognizes this as hers and puts them back on. Now that she feels complete, the duo feel annoyed that this is just a missing panty issue.

Special 4
Rin and Luvia are captured by Angelica and Beatrice. Angelica believes they will serve useful and wants to brainwash them. The proud duo consider themselves as high mages and won’t be easily brainwashed. Well what do you know? They’re already under mind control. Their first order is to wear a maid outfit. Since they don’t know what it is, Angelica describes wear to get those frilly outfits. They mess up Beatrice’s room but the outfits are too small to fit them. Mad Beatrice kicks them out and this disables the hypnosis. They try to escape while maintaining they won’t fall for the same trick twice. Here they are under Angelica’s command again. This time they are to play with Erica. As they don’t know who she is, Angelica describes the little adorable girl. The dumb duo go play with Beatrice. More like abusing her! They then realize she isn’t as adorable and Beatrice becomes mad, punching them out of their hypnosis again. Are they going to learn from their lesson now that they know the trick? “Please give us any orders you want, master”. Idiots. But still a handful.

Save A Friend, Save The World
Hold on a second. The end it with a sort of ‘cliff-hanger’? I mean, Shirou is going to tell his side of the story with Miyu and he did say it is going to take a while. So does this mean we will have to wait for another season next year? No actually. Their story will be told in a form of a movie, a first in this series. A story that will tell what happened to them. Well, you know me and my ‘relationship’ with anime movies, right? But anyway for those who still want more Ilya loli (and yuri) goodness, you can rejoice and look forward to the movie. But even not taking into account the movie, there is still the possibility of another development for another season because Julian as the main antagonist is not defeated and this isn’t over by a long shot yet. After all, Ilya and co are still in this alternate parallel world and not back in their own. The fates of many other characters as well as the mysteries of this world are not properly fleshed out yet.

Surprisingly this season feels interesting as I was expecting it to not be any different thinking the producers would be spamming us with more yuri loli antics (which is what the series is supposedly about) but this wasn’t the case. Sure, we still have a few moments of Ilya x Miyu but this is overshadowed by the intriguing plot line. Mainly I think it is because Ilya is now in a parallel world and not in a world of her own. She knows nothing here and thus this adds to the mystery and intrigue of the entire series. Seeing this season is mainly turned into a big rescue mission, there isn’t time for Ilya to waste and sit and dawdle around. Not when your friend is going to be turned into Holy Grail fodder to save the world.

This is also the first time the series went beyond its 10 episode limit per season. Perhaps this is why the fourth season feels refreshing and interesting? Because a couple of more episodes means more depth to the storyline? The plot moves along fast enough and you will already reach the end of the season before you even know it. So if you think about the, the entire season is about trying to infiltrate the castle, being paid a visit by the big boss himself, infiltrating the castle again and then a long final fight with the enemy. I guess there is no time to waste and fool around as you have noticed Ilya’s classmates do not make any further appearance other than that short cameo in the first episode. No Tatsuko’s genki idiocy and no Mimi’s yuri fetish awakening.

Adding another interesting aspect is the quirky idiot, Tanaka. She is really an unknown factor but you can’t help wanting to see more of her because of her idiotic antics despite she might be an annoying prick sometimes. But it’s tolerable. We still love her. Who is she and what is she, you don’t really question it all because she is just lovable being in her silly mode. Then it’s like we almost forgot about her because from the halfway point she is greatly missing (sleeping, rather) after Darius’ personal visit. And then just to remind us that she does exist, suddenly she comes back in the final episode. Partly. There is still a great deal about her that we don’t know and thus one of the little irritating things that kept bugging me since I finished watching this season. So right from the start till the end, Tanaka is one big bag of mystery and joker.

If Tanaka isn’t already the biggest idiot this season, be glad to know that Luvia and Rin who are predominantly missing for the first half of the series to make their reappearance here under mind control and on the enemy’s side. It just tells us how weak they are if they can even get into this state. But if you think about it, they have been big idiots throughout the series considering their failure to retrieve Class Cards in previous seasons (and hence why the magical girls are needed). At least for them as decently powerful mages, this sort of level of competency is just mind blowing. They didn’t even do much even if they got back their senses but I guess it is better than interfering with our lolis.

I have a feeling that this season is the darkest of the series yet because it makes our lolis trying to decide on what is good and what is bad. They’re trying to make them choose one or the other. But of course seeing that you can’t have such controversial bad end, we take the generic hero route that they will save everyone and everything. After all that is what being a hero is all about, right? Only, hero is mispronounced as magical girl in this series ;p. So we have got the lolis seemingly making ‘unpopular’ decisions by voicing their true feelings like Chloe who would see the world go bust just to save Miyu. And she doesn’t bat an eyelid or hesitate in making that decision. Even if they will perish along with the world, it is better than living in a world without her best friend, right? I suppose you can’t argue with that logic as there are some truths in that. Who’d knew that even loli friendship can be this complicated. And Miyu tries to be mean to be kind to Erica by saying she is not her friend. I mean, liking and friending you on Facebook don’t automatically mean you are my friend, right? At least this is what I envisage when Miyu said that.

Ilya is still cute and funny as she is serious a she has always been. She might have gotten used to her magical girl ways by now but still can’t get used to Chloe’s mana-sucking-loli-kissing moments. Despite Miyu being confined to the tower for half the series, there is decent development on her since we get to know a little more about her plight and origins. It might not be much but at least we (and her friends) understand her a little better. And you can’t have a Fate series without Shirou even though he is just a supporting character in all the Ilya spinoffs. Well, Miyu’s Shirou is at least more badass and kickass than Ilya’s Shirou who feels more like a wuss and normal guy (whom Ilya secretly wants to fantasize and get in his pants sometimes). Oh, this Shirou is rich too! Yeah, Ilya. Sometimes you can only wish and dream and be envious of others…

Julian might seem like a one-dimensional villain but I have a feeling that there is a side to his story too that we have not heard of. And poor Erica turned from a cute innocent loli who just tried to act tough, suddenly grows up and becomes a badass woman. Well, that’s life for you. Crazy is Beatrice in her attack and as crazy she is for her love for Julian. Love keeps her existence burning. But baffling me is Beatrice’s card because I thought she would fall under the Berserker category but WTF is this Thor thingy? What next? Roman and Greek Gods cards? Well, I’m not very familiar in the Fate series so you can say that I am quite the ignorant fool after watching the entire Ilya spinoffs as well as all the TV series of Fate. Sakura’s appearance is short and it might unnecessary but I am thinking that it is somewhat tied to the movie in the future.

The action sequences are pretty entertaining the watch and it goes without saying that the magic effects during battle are quite good. But like I said, since I am not very well versed in the Fate universe, of course there are some terms that I am unfamiliar with and hence sometimes when the characters have their dialogue I would be lost in trying to understand what it all means. Like for example Gil and his other half card which was in Angelica’s possession. Something about all his treasures connected. Something like that which I am not very familiar with. As long as the action scenes keep me occupy instead of thinking and scratching my head, I’m fine with that. It might not be the greatest battles among the series because no big boss battles like against Berserker or Gilgamesh and despite Julian is super powerful, this guy doesn’t give off that feeling that he is the super secret final big boss. But still having said all that, the action is sufficient to keep me entertained.

As always, the previous voice acting casts have been retained with only Sapphire’s seiyuu replaced. There is a reason for this. Fans would have long known that it is with a heavy heart that Sapphire’s original seiyuu, Miyu Matsuki has passed away back in 2015. Yumi Kakazu (Dita in Vandread, Shizuka in Doraemon movies) replaces her. Because Sapphire never sounded anywhere close like Yoshinoya sensei, therefore the difference is not very obvious and perhaps one of the easiest voices (using that term loosely) to cover. New recognizable seiyuus for this season are Rie Kugimiya as Beatrice and Ryoko Shiraishi as Angelica. The rest are Natsuki Hanae as Julian (Qwenthur in Heavy Object), Katsuyuki Konishi as Darius (Oga in Beelzebub), Sumire Morohoshi as Erica (Arisa in Onii-chan Dakedo Ai Sae Areba Kankei Nai Yo Ne) and Misato Fukuen as Tanaka (Eve in Black Cat).

Choucho who sang the first season’s opening theme is now back singing the opener for this season. Personally I only like Asterism for the instruments played in the background like the flamenco guitar style at the start and the violins subsequently. The ending theme, Whimsical Wayward Wish by Technoboys Pulcraft Green-Fund featuring Yumeha Kouda sounds weird because of its techno mix. The special ending theme for episode 9 is a lovely slow ballad, Cuddle by Choucho.

Well, it has been a long journey for this series and since it still does have a decent amount of fans (spill over from the Fate series, I guess), it might not just stop here. After all, the world didn’t end, right? Now Ilya and the rest of the gang get to experience the best and the worst of both worlds. This season did restore some of my faith in the series instead of starting to go on a downward trend seeing that many series with many seasons tend to follow this trend. Hopefully this one will not fall into that pitfall if it is going to continue to make more seasons. By then I guess by this time we should all know the series for this: Come for the cute girls, stay for the yuri loli action.

Ah well, the remake of the Fate series is over. Feeling the hangover about it? But do not fear. In its absence we still have Ilya’s little series that is still ongoing albeit being split into many small seasons. And for those of you who are staunch Ilya supporters and were devastated about her ultimate fate (no pun intended) in the remake of the said TV series, don’t worry folks. She is still kicking and alive, doing well and going strong in the third season of her own series, Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya 2wei Herz. More magical Ilya and friends goodness coming right your way!

Episode 1
Summer is here. I can understand the lolis being excited but Fujimura too? Yeah. No damn kids to babysit. So Ilya and friends head to the shopping centre to buy swimsuits for their beach outing. Ilya’s friends bow to Miyu like a God because she carries a super rainbow credit card. Not sure if Miyu is being sarcastic as she says she doesn’t remember being friends with them! With the friends in their usual folly, trying to put a very risqué swimsuit on Ilya and Tatsuko being an exhibitionist, their rowdiness has the customers irritated and leave that the clerk has to apologize and put her foot down. Meanwhile Luvia and Rin have to get busy for summer. They never expected to detect the presence of the eighth card under the sea. Chloe is running low on mana so she tugs Ilya to help replenish. In a very ambiguous scene that would have outsiders caught dead in misinterpreting this yuri loli fuss, unfortunately they didn’t know Mimi is eavesdropping and every single ambiguous line they spew makes it sound like they are in some horny lesbian relationship! Mimi gets even more shocked when they go deep into kissing and mention even about the prospects of Miyu as a threesome. Mimi is surprised when Miyu interrupts her and tells her to not get in their way and forget everything she saw. How can she? When the outing is over, Miyu stays over at Ilya’s place. Everyone gives her a warm welcome but it just makes her feel awkward. As Shirou is the only guy around, some tease him for his loli harem and he is caught between a rock and a hard place about his answer in following the girls to their beach outing tomorrow. Either he is a pervert lolicon or gay, depending on his answer. Chloe continues to tease Shirou by wearing a see-through lingerie pyjamas. During bedtime, you wonder why Iri is joining in with the lolis. Maybe she feels this young, eh? The bed is getting cramped… Of course they talk about Shirou, the sinful guy he is. Being quite noisy, Shirou comes in to check what is going on only to hear them talking about neutering him! They think he might need one for barging into a room filled with women on their talk.

Episode 2
It is here for real. The girls rushing towards the beach. Ruined only when Tatsuko starts stripping naked. So as not for Shirou to make it look like this is a harem, he brought Issei along. Suzuka is interested in their relationship as Issei ambiguously expands it. Great. Now her fujoshi mode is activated. Ilya notices Miyu not having fun so she explains this is only her second outing in her life to the beach. She once lived in Fuyuki City with her dad and brother. When her dad died of illness, he was taken in by a family abroad. Her brother resembles a lot like Shirou. Premonition for something? Suddenly Bazett is here. Don’t worry. She is not here to fight them but sell popsicles. In the last event after destroying Luvia’s house, she is forced to find money for repairs. Luvia used her authority to freeze her credit as she ran out of cash. So she had to take up multiple part time jobs and only eat grass. Yes… GRASS!!! So care to buy a popsicle for 500 Yen each? Ripped off… The reason for this beach outing is to also celebrate Ilya, Chloe and Miyu’s birthday. At the beach house run by Tatsuko’s family, because Miyu doesn’t understand the significance of celebrating birthdays, Shirou explains about the celebration and gratitude of being born. After getting their presents and Miyu’s heartfelt speech of thanks, Suzuka and Nanaki won’t lose out and try to give the birthday girls their risqué swimsuit as present.

A commotion is heard nearby. It seems Luvia and Rin have cordoned off a large area of the beach to dig for the eighth card. If it is bad enough for them all to meet, can it be coincidence if Bazett too walks into the picture? With Issei being sharp and questioning the ladies of this shady construction, before the loli magical girls can push their friends away from this conflict, Nanaki recognizes Luvia and Rin. And it isn’t a pleasant one. She blames them for ruining her sister Nanami’s love life. They threw frogs at her and now she is afraid of them. Ilya is forced to do something although is not directly involved but it involves the groups that revolve around her. When they realize Nanami’s love was Shirou, many of the girls try to claim Shirou as theirs. Hey, even Issei is trying to claim Shirou as his! And Bazett is still selling her popsicles. So what is Ilya going to do?! Run away! This is when Ruby has the perfect solution. In view of her rising love rivals, she has prepared an injection. Oh no. Doesn’t look good. She injects it into Shirou and he falls flat on his face. Luvia tries to take advantage of this and smother him in her boobs. But when he comes to, he starts describing her boobs and this makes her embarrass as she throws him to Rin. Now it’s her turn for breast analyzing? Yeah, he has a word or two for others too. The injection is actually a truth serum. Oops. Looks like Ruby blundered. Then she injects everyone with sedatives that has them so calm that they turned into some Buddha statue. Then another injection into Shirou to set the stage for Ilya’s romance with him. As things are about to get steamy, Mimi freaks out at this. How did Ruby miss her? I guess this is what happens when your character doesn’t stand out. So Chloe and Miyu aren’t enough and she is now resorting to her bother? Shirou gets owned… Ruby is happy to see everybody’s reaction. That happiness is short-lived as Sapphire initiates her punishment. Although nobody could remember that chaotic moment, at least they remember having fun prior before. I think that is good enough. Bazett couldn’t sell her quota so her boss thinks she was slacking and cuts her rate!

Episode 3
Mimi is having nightmares of that yuri loli scene! To get it out of her system, she needs to write it all down! So when the friends are over to do homework, Mimi seems to be troubled over something. Ilya tries to help her out despite Mimi clearly doesn’t want to show it to her. This causes an intense argument between Chloe and Miyu about a situation like this. And Ilya has to choose sides… When Suzuka notes about the pain of being a woman and such arguments like this won’t happen if they were guys, suddenly it hit Mimi. What if she changes their gender to male? Oh God! It sounds so good that she starts writing and cannot stop! Looks like whatever problem is solved. When Suzuka returns home, her sister forces her to come up with a manuscript because her assistant screwed up. Suzuka knows it is impossible in this short time but remembers there might be one… Suzuka has noticed Mimi’s fujoshi’s behaviour and tricks her to come to her place and bring her notebooks. After tying her up and letting big sister read it, she finds this yaoi threesome story to be absolutely good. They then rein Mimi to their side by explaining they are comrades of the same fantasy. Mimi also attends her first yaoi doujinshi to help sell that newly published story. Eventually Suzuka rats out Mimi’s character to Ilya and co. Because they do not understand a bit about BL and even in the plainest term that Mimi has turned fujoshi, she brings them to her house. Wow. Cabinets filled with fujoshi books… However Mimi is at the door so Suzuka hides them in the closet and to observe her behaviour. They see how Mimi is reacting and talking with glee about yaoi. Not that they understand anyway. So they refer to a yaoi manga that Suzuka gave them to find out more. Oops… Looks like men being gay with each other! Now you understand?! They hear Mimi spewing yaoi terms like a pro so much so they have to be censored out! Ilya is very embarrassed with it while Chloe is just being cheeky. Their commotion accidentally reveals their location. Mimi’s first reaction? Were they doing something hot and steamy in the closet?!

So they listen to Mimi’s story that she only recently got hooked. I guess it’s Suzuka’s fault to begin with. However Mimi doesn’t want them to blame Suzuka because she wrote the stories in her own taste and it means her soul was already shaped by BL. I think it also means she’s a gone case. Mimi then reveals a dozen notebooks of short stories she has already written! That addicting, huh? Even more surprising is that she can’t stop having lewd thoughts of Shirou and Issei! The commotion has Suzuka’s sister barging in for interrupting her yaoi simulation. Yeah, this girl is on a totally different level. First she has Mimi explain her feelings towards BL. Although it is embarrassing, she can’t help like them. What about Ilya? She doesn’t think that is normal. The solution? They should stop being friends. If you have to stop someone from something just because you don’t understand about it, who needs friends like that anyway? She continues that they know their hobby is weird and that is why they hide it from others. They can’t stop liking it. So if a friend interferes just because it is weird, does this mean friendship is about rejecting things you don’t understand? If you can’t do that, at least pretend not to notice. The lolis are inspired. Ilya and Mimi reconcile. But Ilya wonders if fujoshi have no interest in getting boyfriends then. Big sister explains BL is just fantasy and shouldn’t be mixed up with real life. However Mimi explicitly states she doesn’t need a boyfriend and she really thinks that dating should be of the same gender. Oh dear… She is already a hopeless case… I think it’s time for her friends to leave. Oh, Miyu has finished a volume and now understands about BL. Let’s hope she didn’t convert too.

Episode 4
The magical girls are now doing construction work, using their magic to bore tunnels under the construction area. As thanks, Luvia gives them tickets to an amusement park. So we have the usual suspects at this theme park with a weird lion mascot. Only now replacing Shirou is Iri accompanying them. I suppose Ilya’s friends are talking good things about Iri that she even starts talking a bit of family history about her romance, much to Ilya’s dismay. They have all the fun rides and since this is Miyu’s first time, this might be the first time hearing her scream from riding a roller coaster. After the crowded parade, it seems Iri has been separated from them. They thought she might be at the lost children centre but to their surprise it is their school nurse, Caren Ortensia who is manning the place. Then Iri calls them. Due to her luck being some 10,000th customer, she is made to wear some wedding dress for some commemorative shot. Suzuka and friends want her to continue what she is doing. Mama has got to have some fun too, right? But what about a guardian? Some rides need a guardian to accompany. Don’t worry. They’ve got Caren. Surprisingly Caren agrees to that. Along the way, they see a lion mascot pulling up cool acrobatic manoeuvres to save a kid’s balloon. Caren then whispers to her to tag along with them. Nearing the end of the day, Ilya realizes her bracelet charm is missing (from Shirou’s present). The friends go all out to search and the magical girls even transforming to locate it but to no avail. Just as the park is closing and Ilya about to give up, Miyu is given a hint by Caren about they’re doing such useless things without a plan. This has Miyu start thinking about the bracelet’s structure. From the looks of it, it wasn’t broken and just unfastened. But it was designed not to unfasten easily and it must have fallen off by some special force. Thinking back, it could be during the parade. Miyu finally finds it in the shallow rivers. Ilya is so happy that she dives down into the river to hug her. She thought she lost it for good. When Iri finally meets up with them, she learns Caren had been their guardian. She doesn’t look too pleased although both grownups try to put up a polite facade but you can tell bad blood is boiling underneath. Caren is refusing to tell why she accompanied them when she could have rejected them outright. The person underneath that mascot suit is Bazett. Yeah, another part time job. This time she is happy she could keep the suit because it will act as her sleeping bag!

Episode 5
Time for the fireworks festivals. The friends are there early in the day. Since this is Miyu’s first time too, she can’t help do her calculative analysis how the prices of these stalls are ripping off everyone! You can’t put a price on fun, eh? I guess in that sense, Miyu is going to have a hard time living up to that version of fun. The usual fun at the festival. Then Ruby gets jealous when Ilya buys a mask of a young bushido girl. She is threatening this disloyalty with lawsuits! Ilya just dumps her in the dustbin. Then one of the stalls is manned by Bazett! She is intimidating them to play. Her friends tried and they win nothing. Not even a consolation prize. Now she is trying to make Ilya and the rest play. Till Luvia shows up and buys the entire prize with her big money. Bazett gladly closes the store with this much money. And of course Miyu analysed with this amount of money wasted to cover the excessive total expenditure… Shirou is helping Tatsuko’s father in one of the stalls. This guy is here too? If he is short of manpower, why not call Tatsuko? This is his damning line: Tatsuko is a big help when she is not around… Oh sh*t… Father frees Shirou to let him join the rest. Why also give free food? To keep Tatsuko away from them. Oh sh*t… That speaks volumes. Luvia and Rin are perhaps enjoying a nice time with Shirou. Earlier on, Rin tricked Luvia in not wearing any underwear beneath her yukata. Now she is telling Shirou those who do are sick perverts. Upset of being tricked, Luvia smacks a water balloon behind her back and pops it. It looked like Rin couldn’t hold it in and is starting to leak. Right back at ‘ya! This reminds Ilya that she is wearing any underwear beneath. Coincidentally, her sash starts to unrobe. To prevent from being an exhibitionist, she transforms into her magical girl. Ruby is totally upset she used this to hide her nudity and is against it. Luckily Miyu helps Ilya put back her yukata nicely. Then she asks Miyu about becoming a magical girl via coincidence. It might happen in anime but it’s not the same for some. How was it for Miyu? It was the same. While everyone is watching the fireworks, Chloe laments about Ilya refusing to take that step again. She believes Miyu is hiding something and something intimately related to them. Bazett gets an earful from her boss because he tells her all that money is still not enough to cover the costs. That will be deducted from her pay. NOOOOOOO!!!

Episode 6
Too hot a summer. Too hot to do anything. Rather than being cooked up in the house, Ilya and Chloe go help Shirou water the plants only to find Iri and Liz soaking in a mini pool. Mother teases them to come in and then pushes them in. Shirou comes by and is shocked to see this. Lolis in wet clothes. And when Sella is here, she misinterprets Shirou being a pervert and beats him up. It’s always his fault, eh? The entire household is then invited to Luvia’s mansion that has recently finished its reconstruction. Luvia is treating them to a house party for the inconvenience. I think Iri loves to see the brewing cat fight between Luvia and Rin over Shirou so she gives them sexy pictures of Shirou. Luvia says she doesn’t need them but her body is doing the opposite. As a result, master and maid get into their usual argument. After that, the related parties gather to discuss retrieving the eighth card lying in the mirror world. Bazett will be joining them but not as an ally but a competitor. Also, there is a problem that the card has been absorbing a ridiculous amount of mana enough to shrink the ley lines. It might turn into an unimaginable monster. Their tactic is to engage with maximum firepower and end it with the first strike. Late that night, Luvia talks to Miyu and knows she has been acting strange since the eighth card was discovered. Miyu will gladly opt out from this operation if so but Luvia understands she is deeply connected to it. She won’t ask if she doesn’t tell. After all, Luvia considers Miyu as her little sister. Ilya hears Chloe questioning Iri about the cards and the Holy Grail War because they are related. She thinks Iri is playing dumb as Chloe felt the system of summoning the Holy Grail has changed. Because the classes of the cards are similar to the classes of the Heroic Spirits. If you are familiar with the original FSN works, you would know that cards are not used to summon Heroic Spirits and there is no eighth card. Ilya pulls Chloe away because she believes mother is not playing dumb. Even so, it is not right to get involved in their problem. Their problem? Chloe has serious problem with that definition because the existence of the cards will affect her existence. She believes Miyu is also deeply affected with this. Rin talks to Bazett about their upcoming operation. Bazett is not impressed those kids are in this operation but Rin tells them they might be very related to this. Ilya and co get ready for the operation. She can’t let these thoughts bog her down but she does know their answer lies in finding them.

Episode 7
The gang are ready to teleport. Bazett makes the cut right before they start. Upon arriving, they see a very ominous dark mana. Ilya and co do all that elaborate preparations to kill him off with their first strike. But surprise! He blocked their most powerful attack. When he starts attacking and the attacks are getting fiercer, the ladies have no choice but to retreat. I guess it is time for Bazett to get out of the joke character and remind us why she kicks ass. As she charges directly to it, all the swords and spears pierce her body! OMG! She just get killed off like that?! Is this a joke?! But the final stab to the heart, it is like some sort of condition to revive Bazett as she turns into a powerful punching berserker. To everyone’s dismay, with all the swords the enemy has, they realize that each one is a Noble Phantasm. The swords attack everyone. Chloe’s shield cannot hold on much longer and they really need to escape back to their world as they won’t have any time to recharge for another attack. Bazett continues to directly attack. A sword almost pierces her forehead but if not for Chloe’s counter attack, she could have been dead. I guess the girls don’t really want to escape without her. The temporary binds on the enemy has Bazett using this chance to rip through his core and grab the card. To her shock, she sees an Archer Class Card. But even in this state, the enemy continues to be as powerful as ever, initiating his next attack. Although everyone barely and safely teleport back, Bazett mentions she has learnt a couple of things. The enemy is of another Archer class and they cannot defeat it. They must find another solution and forget about retrieving that card. Chloe agrees because she doesn’t want to fight that thing again. Before they can even rest, the enemy breaks through into this world.

Episode 8
One of his Noble Phantasms might have the ability to break through space and time. Luvia detonates the ceiling to crush him and buy time to get to the surface. You think that is enough to kill him? Well, now he turns into a giant black spaceship heading towards the city. The girls are contemplating their next move when Caren pops up mocking their pathetic state. The little ones are surprised when they learn her true identity. Caren is from the church and is sent as an observer and backup to retrieve the cards. Although the church and Mages Association are enemies, currently they are having a truce. Giving them hints on the situation, it seems the church has also seen this coming and put everyone in town to sleep so everybody don’t have to worry about mass panicking. Noticing the ship is hovering about town and not attacking indiscriminately, the girls decide to take this short moment to rest. This means a little loli yuri from Ilya and Chloe for those who have forgotten what this show is partly about ;p. Caren then gathers everyone as she has found out the enemy’s goal. The way he is hovering on top seems like he is looking for something. They remember they heard him say Holy Grail during their fight. Then the ship moves towards Mt Enzou. Beneath it lies a cavern supposedly where the Holy Grail sleeps. Ilya and Miyu head there first as they could fly. While the rest make their haste, they explain to us about this. 10 years ago, the Einzberns conducted some ritual to call down the vessel of their wishes. This incident is brought forth by the remnants of that. It can be stated that the cards are unrelated to the Holy Grail war. Also explained is the magic formula used to summon the Holy Grail and that Ilya and Chloe are important ingredients to it and thus they are the Lesser Grails. The Holy Grail war ended before it was completed then and thus never formed. The formula should still rest half broken under that cavern. The problem is that if the enemy was seeking the Lesser Grail, Ilya and Chloe would have been targeted. Pursuing the formula would be futile as it is broken. The Einzberns also never used cards to summon Heroic Spirits. Long story short, there is another Holy Grail war aside from the ones by Einzberns. The enemy turns Mt Enzou into a crater to reveal a huge cavern. He starts activating the big magic circle. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out it will be big trouble so Ilya tries to push him out of it. But it seems she pushed out a naked blonde dude. And she was grabbing and squeezing his crotch… Ilya, you have been tainted!

Episode 9
A guy telling a girl to take responsibility? Now that’s a change. Before we can make naked jokes and make the girls fluster and act unnatural in his birthday suit, blondie boy whom I’ll name as Gilgamesh puts on some decent clothes to initiate a serious talk. This subsequent technical talk is also explained by Caren who is starting to suffer from bodily injuries. Can’t last longer so have to tell the gang what is happening, eh? So this is what I understand. Caren and her church have been observing people going in and out of the cavern. One day the number didn’t match. Somebody came out although no one entered it. This was before Chloe came about. That person is Miyu. She is a princess from the parallel world. The Holy Grail war was created for her sake as she is a complete version of it. Call it a Holy Grail with a full human personality. She is the reason why the Class Cards exist. Miyu seems to have resigned to her fate. She blames herself for all the troubles and that she should not have come. As she is being pulled in, Ilya tried to save her but all Miyu did was pass Sapphire to her and tell her to destroy her along with everything. Bye. What emerges is a very huge and hideous Heroic Spirit monster that is on the verge of going berserk. Gilgamesh also gets absorbed into it. He tells Ilya she has no chance in winning and if she doesn’t want to die, leave the cards and run. You think she will? Gilgamesh stabs her with a weapon but Ilya turns out to be a decoy (Sapphire in disguise). This enables Ilya to go up close and slap him! Where is Miyu? Right in the core’s centre. Don’t worry. She is still alive. Chloe and Bazett have arrived on scene to rescue Ilya. She explains what has happened so Chloe tells her to rest and heal those wounds and find her answer. Chloe and Bazett have a hard time trying to get to its core and do some serious pounding. When Gilgamesh is going to drop his gigantic sword, to everyone’s shock, Ilya breaks it! Is this the power of a mad loli? She realizes what Miyu said is not supposed to be what a friend should say. So she has decided to pull Miyu out of there and slap her!

Episode 10
With Iri arriving, I guess Caren is obligated to tell her that a different Holy Grail formula aside the Einzbern’s one is activating. Ilya powers up greatly after combining Ruby and Sapphire’s power. This means there will be great strain on her body and in turn this is affecting Chloe (the curse has whatever pain Ilya feels, Chloe will also feel the same). Instead of stopping reckless Ilya, Chloe wants everyone to help her push forward instead since she is going to great lengths to help a friend. Gilgamesh relishes fighting Ilya because he believes he is going to have a lot of fun fighting someone powerful. The final attack has Gilgamesh unleashing his ultimate sword that divided heaven from Earth and Ilya firing her ultimate magical beam. Meanwhile trapped Miyu is reconciling what is happening. The life she once lived, the live she is currently living, the dream that is all is. Before she knows it, Miyu is back in the real world. Looks like Ilya finally defeated Gilgamesh. They are in a huge crater and it is raining golden showers. Oops. I mean golden bubbles. At least that is what it looks like. Ilya and Miyu reconcile. They thought prying into the other’s identity/life would change the way things are but now they don’t want to run away anymore. About that slap, I guess Ilya didn’t have the heart to do it. And everything ended well that they didn’t even need Iri’s intervention. At least mom can heave a sigh of relief.

Ilya is sleeping in bed back in her room only to be awakened by Chloe’s kiss! You think that was Shirou, eh? Speaking of him, he comes in to check on her and sees this. Woah! Too much to handle. But this misinterpretation is the least of their problems. They haven’t done their summer homework yet! Same case with their friends. Nobody did it. Not even Mimi. I think I know why… The friends are afraid of asking Miyu because she rejected them once but surprisingly this time she gladly comes over to help. When Tatsuko reads questions that coincidentally have words like rearranging the eighth card and a parallel queen, it sends our magical lolis into panic. Their actions are so obvious that their friends are starting to get real suspicious. Then they just burst into laughter. What? I didn’t get the joke! More troubles for Ilya when her friends bug her to help with their work. Even off duty being a magical girl, Ilya is such a busy loli. Rin wonders what to report to her superior because the eighth card disappeared. Luvia says just to lie about it. As for Miyu’s existence, they aren’t going to tell of course. What about Bazett? She’ll report everything as she has seen. Won’t their reports be inconsistent then? Not to worry. The higher ups are currently infighting and with different factions fighting for power, it will take them some time to notice this. What happens when they do? She’ll think about it when the time comes! When Iri and Caren revisit the site, they are shocked that the crater is gone and replaced with lush greeneries. It is deduced that the space between the parallel worlds might have been swapped.

Special 1
After watching a cat DVD, Ilya is so loving it but Chloe thinks otherwise. Shirou also mentions he loves cats but why the family never got one? When you have one as close as Liz… Back in the room, Ruby shows Chloe and Miyu a very sexy pose of Ilya in cat outfit. She tries to coax Chloe into doing so as this might steal Shirou’s heart. Chloe knows it is a trap but tries it out anyway. Miyu is also coaxed to participate under the pretence of not letting Ilya feel lonely doing this. So we have them in very sexy cat outfits. Ruby has them practice to act like cats but it seems she is making them do ambiguous sexy poses and filming it all! I guess Miyu is looking cute so Chloe can’t resist and flirt with her. Before she could kiss her, Ilya returns and sees this horrifying scene. Ruby boasts all this is her work and that Ilya should turn into beast mode as well. Time to punish the culprit. Ruby argues they did this on their own volition. Ilya won’t allow Chloe to use what she has learnt to seduce Shirou. Then Miyu does a sexy cat move and it turns Ilya’s switch on. I think the shock didn’t make her go berserk like a pervert. She just wants to start off taking a commemorative photo.

Special 2
Ilya didn’t like how Chloe wears her clothes without permission. Since she has the ability, why not just materialize some clothes to wear? Chloe gives lots of excuse that she needs some visual model and that other clothes don’t suit her well in battle. She has a bad feeling when Ilya wants her to try and materialize several clothes from the magazine so that she can get a good idea how they look like on herself. She has to do it otherwise Ilya threatens she won’t help replenish her mana anymore. Besides, the clothes she makes come from her mana. Chloe plays along and tries out a few outfits. Finally there is one where Ilya takes a liking. Shirou comes back early from school so Ilya rushes to show him. Bad idea? Yes. As the clothes are of Chloe’s mana, it will disappear when Ilya strays too far. This means Shirou has got a full view of Ilya’s naked loli body! OMG! OMFG! His eyes! HIS EYES! Child porn is illegal, don’t you know that?!

Special 3
Nanaki is so mad complaining to Ilya and Chloe about Rin and Luvia that she is about to explode! Apparently they did something to her sister and she has been bedridden for 3 days. And all big sister did was trying to stop them from fighting. Now little sister is going to make them apologize with some sort of family torture method. That is why she is in Ilya’s room to spy on them. Just great. Now she is dragged into this. From her binoculars, she sees Rin and Luvia engaging in some super fast fighting combo. After Chloe explains their superhuman level combat prowess which they practice every day, Nanaki becomes distraught that she is no match for them. A mysterious voice then asks her if she wants to become stronger. Without hesitation, she wants to. This voice turns out to be Tatsuko and she is more than happy to introduce her to her family dojo. I guess this means Ilya and Chloe have to be dragged into this. They meet Tatsuko’s dad who runs the dojo. First, he asks their reason to learn martial arts because he will turn away any unjust reasons. Nanaki without hesitation tells him about her quest to make those b*tches pay. Daddy likes it and approves! So we see daddy applying his techniques by adapting them to his opponent’s move. Making their traditional moves more suspicious is Tatsuko’s explanation how their style was developed by the peasants oppressed by the samurais! Which is perfectly in line with Nanaki’s unjust goal! Nanaki seems to have grasped the basics by just looking. Daddy doesn’t think she can master in such a short time but the next thing we all know, he is beaten up like hell and conceding defeat! He regrets everything! Even Tatsuko has been ‘paralyzed’ from shock and unable to accept reality!

Special 4
The face off begins. With Nanaki spewing tough words, it makes her feel insulted that Rin and Luvia don’t remember who she is. Or even that incident at the beach. Nanaki demonstrates her strength by destroying Tatsuko’s dojo plaque! She is even more traumatized now. Luvia then remembers that dojo. On that festival night, she beat up Tatsuko’s dad for being rowdy with Shirou. That guy is just really weak, huh? Since diplomacy has failed, time to let the action do the talking. Both sides power up and you can just feel the tension. Any spark would make all hell break loose. Suddenly Nanaki blows her top that they are not attacking. Because the martial arts she learnt can only do counter attacking! If they don’t attack, it is useless! I’m sure Tatsuko is further breaking apart after hearing how Nanaki badmouths her dojo like hell. Rin and Luvia don’t really want to fight her as they have somewhere else to go: Visit Nanami and apologize to her. And with that, all the animosity is gone and Nanaki is okay with that. Upon entering the room, everyone is shocked to see Shirou cleaning Nanami’s naked back with a sponge! I’m sure they are at a lost to explain this with the right words. Especially when Nanami says how happy she is. Looks like the animosity is back up. Rin and Luvia are ready to kick her ass and let their fists do the talking. Nanaki falls into shock that her sister’s crush has been Shirou. She never knew… She gets ready to fight her sister’s rivals again. Ilya and Chloe can’t trust Shirou anymore so that means they’re not going to stop this fight. Chaos reigns inside the room and hearing from the lot of it, looks like Shirou got owned pretty bad. Tatsuko’s dad has created a new plaque for the dojo. He is looking forward to start anew when Tatsuko has become enlightened like Buddha, telling him that violence solves nothing! Only men can engage in dialogue! Well, at least all the violence did her some good. I think.

Special 5
Bazett wakes up nice and refreshed when she realizes when she cannot use her card. Asking the receptionist, it seems there is a letter from Luvia about the 2 million Yen debt she owes for the previous engagement. And if she tries to run away, Luvia will find her no matter what. Need to find a job fast… Meanwhile, Suzuka is forced to wear a maid outfit for her big sister’s manga inspiration. Unfortunately she lacks in every department (yes, EVERY department) and looks like a high school cosplayer (isn’t she one?) and the duo end up in a heated argument. Eventually Suzuka tells her off to visit a maid cafe to see for herself. And here she is. It seems Bazett is working part time at a maid cafe. Before big sister knows it, she is dragged in by her. The way Bazett greets her in her loud voice makes her feel like as though she is a yakuza boss! She orders an omelette rice and Bazett becomes crazy in making it delicious by splattering the ketchup all over. I think big sister is going to have some trauma. If losing her appetite was bad enough, Bazett wants to feed her. She’s not going to take no for an answer. Bad feeling about this. Thanks to her enthusiasm, here comes to train! Or rather, bullet train! I’m sure it is a very traumatic experience for big sister… Bazett got fired. She sees a poster for a part time job at the beach house. It is by Tatsuko’s dad and he pops up thinking she is interested. He will take her interview right now. There are lots of questions she can’t answer due to confidentiality so he doesn’t think she is the right person for the job. Then she punches him away claiming physical violence is her forte. When big sister returns home, she tells Suzuka that there fiction should remain as fiction. They don’t mix or nothing good will come out of it. Suzuka can’t understand what happened. Hey… Why no Ilya or Chloe featured in this final special?!

Magical Loli, Yuri Loli, Fujoshi Loli, Friendship Loli… A Loli For All Seasons!
Just like last time, they also announced the inevitable next season right at the end of the season’s final episode. With all that is happening and nothing really solved yet, I guess there is still a lot of material to cover from the looks of it. Frankly, this season feels like half of it was fillers especially the first half that didn’t really contribute much to the plot except showing Ilya and her friends how they enjoy their summer break. Therefore like in its anime title suggests, it feels more like a continuation and extension of the second season rather than a true third season itself. Sometimes I wonder why they just didn’t put it all into one season and the need to split it into seasons with the number of episodes equal to the number of fingers on an average ordinary person’s hands. Perhaps it is the case of not having enough episodes to extend it into 2 proper cours and at the same time not short enough to put it into 1 cour because if they opt for the latter, they would have to cut out a lot of materials and cram in everything, which is a big no for fans. Therefore I guess it is much safer to take a break and put in some fillers before resuming with the serious parts.

I have to admit that somewhat watching the fillers for this season are more enjoyable than the serious plot. Because I just find it now quite confusing. Maybe my brain is not working while watching this season. So I am left to wonder if this series is running parallel to the Fate universe now that they are talking about parallel worlds, the relation of the Class Cards to summoning Heroic Spirits like the ones in the Fate TV series and a different kind of Holy Grail war. I’m not really a fan of the Fate series and perhaps diehard fans could easily piece the puzzles together but for a casual viewer like me, it just gets confusing. At least it isn’t that bad that I totally didn’t understand a single thing. I guess I will have to wait for the next season to find out more. Or get my mind confused even further with more twists, plots and revelations. I don’t know if my mind can take it anymore even if this is a loli themed show. Yeah, there are some serious sh*t going on for this loli themed genre.

Back to the filler episodes, they are fun in a way because we get to see the lighter side of the girls especially Ilya’s friends who will definitely not have any appearance or hand when the going gets tough. So might as well make their appearance while they can before real sh*t happens. This time around, hogging the spotlight is Mimi, the girl who can be up there in the list of people whose existence can be easily missed. Quite the irony, eh? I suppose this season showcases how this honour student has fallen (or rather awakened) into the rotten fujoshi trap and will likely to stay there. Things will definitely not be the same. Now the entire loli group of friends are corrupted or at least not that innocent. I am not sure if they are trying to kill 2 birds with a stone by flashing yuri and yaoi stuffs here albeit the latter is still considered minimal. It is kinda heavy stuff for a series where you have lolis as the main protagonists, don’t you think? The fillers we also get to know a little more about Tatsuko who has been the big monkey of the group. Especially about her family and how much it means to them for her to stay away from their business! If she brings this much ruin, maybe they should recruit her to fight monsters because she’ll just kick ass and destroy the big boss in no time. As the comic relief and idiot of the group, she acts like one, her talk never make sense and sometimes she is a lot more bothersome than fun to be around with.

With yuri and fujoshi-cum-yaoi already in the picture, did they have to remind us about the subtle gay moments between Shirou and August? What is this series becoming too?! Because there was this scene during Luvia’s house party whereby Shirou stumbles upon August cutting some meat with his very sharp knives. Probably it is Shirou’s instinct to walk away before something undesirable or open to misinterpretation occurs but alas, August strikes! He says, “Don’t you like my meat?”. WTF?! The butler then proceeds to subtly warn the kid about touching the opposite gender because this is when his knives will really cut up some inedible meat. So is he trying to tell us not to touch his oujo-sama but he himself is a substitute is okay? Now with Issei in the picture (albeit his appearance was just one episode), the gay force is getting strong with Shirou (I hope it has nothing to do with that scene from FSN: UBW TV series). In short, Shirou is the guy whom almost every darn character would love to take out their sexual orientations with.

Not too sure if Bazett is an ally or enemy at the end of these events but during the filler episodes, she seemed to be turned into a joker character, a role that is more comical than Tatsuko. I guess when you are in the filler zone, everybody fierce or not become docile and comical. So for Bazett’s case, it has become a running joke about her poverty that she wears so many hats just for money. And sometimes it doesn’t end well for her because if she falls short of it, she gets her pay cut. It only goes to show that she isn’t really cut out for this kind of jobs and the only most appropriate field where she would feel at home is fighting head on with monsters and the likes. Super enforcer, check. Able to live life as an ordinary person, big fail. Caren shows her true colours this season (I can’t remember if she made any appearances in previous seasons but if there were, it was quite minimal) but for now despite the uneasy truce, I have a feeling she is more foe than ally.

There is also that bonding and relationship between Ilya, Miyu and Chloe but I’m not going to delve deep into that because at the end of the day, you can see that they have gotten close and even closer now that they have decided to face whatever that is bugging them head on and move forward. So what if Miyu is the princess of a parallel world? So what if Ilya and Chloe were ingredients for the Holy Grail war? The most important thing that matters to them is being friends, right? Enough said. Period. Just like in last season, I feel that Ruby’s sarcasm has waned a lot. Like as though she is getting lesser screen times as the seasons go by. Therefore she is being a cheeky and mischievous self for a longer period only in the specials. It also never ceases to amuse me the spat between Luvia and Rin but that too is kept to a minimum this season.

The action scenes are still good and perhaps the main draw of the series although personally I feel that this season is not as exhilarating as before. Don’t get the wrong idea. Maybe after the first half of fun and laughter and coupled in with the previous seasons, maybe the effect isn’t as great as it used to be as it was the first time. There are still some cool magical girl beams laced with special effects, big explosions, punches and kicks as well as Gilgamesh’s swords and shields that as his animation during monster mode is usually rendered in CGI. Heck, you only get one proper magical girl transformation scene and that is atrocious to a magical girl series as this is an important and must have component of the genre. Well, not that it bothers me a lot.

This season, Fhana takes over the opening theme duty singing Wonder Stella. Sounds pretty okay. Sounds pretty generic. Hmm… Maybe I just felt her voice sounds a little flat, that’s all. Yumeha Kouda reprises her role in singing the ending theme just like in last season. But this time and for the first time, the series has 2 ending themes instead of one. For the filler episodes, we have the happy fun filled Happening Diary and when the plot starts to get serious, we have the more serious and slow rock of Wishing Diary. The seiyuu casts from previous seasons are retained. Only joining the cast this season is Aya Endou as Gilgamesh (Fuuko/Sky Raker in Accel World) although the character’s name is never explicitly stated in this season, but there is enough evidence (at least for those who have watched the Fate series) to indicate so. Oh, there is also Tatsuko’s family members but their role is just small enough for me to not bother ;p.

Overall, not a bad season with a good mix of comedy, drama and action. All in one for a magical girl series. I don’t know how many more seasons this one is going to have. Whether they will catch up and follow closely with the source material or add in a lot more fillers. Then they can add in spin-offs after spin-offs and turn it into something like that Pretty Cure series. That series is still popular and ongoing with different spin-offs, versions and seasons in Japan? Geez. Thank goodness I am over that craziness for that series a long time ago. I hope this series won’t last that long too or follow that formula. Then it would make me want to wish on the Holy Grail just to end it for good. Eventually all magical girl series must come to an end. And all lolis will have to grow up too. Oh, the horror! (For all you lolicons, that is).

It was inevitable. Sooner or later they will have to put in the much obligated hotspring fanservice episode. Even if it the series is a loli magical girl. There are no more morals in this world. Heh. And so with that, here we are watching Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya 2wei OVA. A hotspring episode for those of you who have been crazily waiting to see Ilya and friends in their naked loli bodies. Perverts. Me? I just want to ‘complete’ watching the series before I start the third season. Really.

A hotspring we will go…
Ilya and her entire family are here at the hotspring. They see Rin and Luvia really relaxing at the massaging chair. Shhh… Don’t bother them… Of course later the duo explain that they aren’t here for fun (it looked like they were having the time of their lives). They were ordered to apply some magic stimuli to a certain location. Why them? Who cares? Maybe it’s a job only they can do. While they are not sure about the exact location, they will need to use dowsing rods to pinpoint it. When Shirou walks in, the duo start to fluster greatly. Of course that mister popular just tell them to spend time with his family if they can. And so here is the much awaited hotspring fanservice. Ironically even if this is OVA, the steam censors are just horrendous. Wait. You really want to see naked loli bodies?! Yeah, maybe the steam really did us a favour… Shirou thought he would be alone but… There is that old geezer August waiting… No Shirou, you’re not seeing things. Gay time… When Ilya realizes Chloe is missing, she fears the worst. True enough, she is trying to seduce Shirou in the men’s section. Before anything steamy could happen, Ilya throws Ruby at him to knock him out and Miyu retrieves Chloe back. And Shirou gets blamed for being a pervert. Ilya is going to initiate the ‘trial’ when Chloe runs out of mana. Oh… Time to replenish. Time for hot yuri French kiss! OMG! Hot loli yuri loli French kiss! Not enough. Need more. OMFG! Hot loli yuri sex now!!!!!!!!!! Damn steam censors!!!!! OMFG! That ahegao face on Ilya… Miyu, please don’t stop them. But she volunteers to continue on Ilya’s behalf. Really? Can she handle it? But all she gets is a little peck before Chloe passes out. Back in the room as Luvia and Rin explain, there is some sort of high mana conductivity in the area. Somehow in this place she is consuming mana at a higher rate when she comes into contact with the water. As long as she is supplied with more and sufficient mana, she’ll be alright in no time.

So as not to ruin their vacation, Ilya suggests doing other fun stuffs. Like ping pong. Chloe beats Ilya flat. When Chloe plays with Miyu, she hints a wager and something to do with Ilya. All motivated up now, isn’t she? There is also an intense match going on between Liz and Sella but we’ll leave them as they are. The rest of the day sees the lolis doing other fun stuffs like at the shooting gallery and accidentally walking into a ‘treasure’ museum that actually turns out to be a sex exhibition. Nope. Not for your loli eyes. Ilya and Miyu want to take Chloe to a certain place but they see Rin and Luvia in the midst of their locating job. When they have found the spot, they remember part their job to administer as much magic stimuli into it. So I guess with the lolis here, it doesn’t hurt if they lend their help. After blasting magic deep into the earth, shortly the ground shakes. Water starts gushing out. Did they discover another hotspring? Analyzing the water, it seems it has no mana conductivity. And because the magic stimuli reached all the way to the water source, the water that feeds to other hotsprings has also been affected. With the composition changed, now the water has all the good and beneficial properties. This also means Chloe can soak in without worrying about losing her mana. So what else is there for the girls to do than to be the first ones to soak in it? They think those higher ups made them to this job because old people love to soak in hotsprings. Yeah well, at least they get to taste it first. Shirou who has been out for a night jog got lost and ends up seeing the naked girls. If he knows better, he should start running! Good news: He managed to escape. Bad news: He runs back to the men’s bath where August is waiting for him. Gay time again? That scream. Somebody got screwed… Is it a wonder on the way home the next day, Shirou is feeling more stressed than relieved? As for our cute lolis, they’re sleeping nicely on each other’s shoulders.

Come On In. The Water’s Fine…
Cute lolis. Check. Hotspring. Check. Fanservice. Check. OVA passed then. Ah well, I supposed this is essential another one of those filler OVAs with nothing much ado till the next season comes by. So fill up your yuri loli gauge that almost crossed over into the hentai category (only to be thwarted with all the steam censors) before the next big thing arrives. Just too bad that Ilya’s classmates didn’t make their appearance here because they already had theirs with the sports festival for the first season’s OVA. So it’s fair that Chloe gets some screen time, focus and bonding moments with Ilya and Miyu in this OVA. It could have been a lot messier and havoc should those classmates be in it but I doubt that will bring in any difference. Heck, Sella and Liz tagged along but were reduced to just cameos. Now that the lolis are relaxed and rejuvenated, it is time to head back and open the third season. I won’t be watching it so fast yet… Need to find that secret hotspring location and revitalize myself first…

As promised and expected, Ilya fans can rejoice with the advent of the much anticipated second season, Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya 2wei (a clever play in the German word of ‘zwei’ which means ‘two’). Because one season of Ilya loli goodness is not enough and thus another season of 10 episodes to satisfy your Ilya needs. Whoops. Do I sound like an Ilya fan? Certainly not. I thought the first season was pretty decent so obviously it was only right for me to continue and check out what is in store for Ilya and the gang. Because there is more to things than collecting Class Cards for this accidental magical girl and her sharp acid tongue talking stick. And if I don’t check it out, something tells me that Ilya is going to cry and pout. And it is a bad thing to make a loli cry, right? Right. I’m only imagining things… And I’m not a lolicon, mind you!

Episode 1
Miyu heads to Ilya’s home to wake her up as they are class monitors for today. Ilya is sleep talking as she thinks Miyu is her onii-chan and almost kisses her! In class, the friends start talking about the beach for the summer vacation. Ilya notices Miyu has changed a little. Although she doesn’t fit in perfectly, she doesn’t shut others out like before. And we have Ilya remembering what has happened in the past month, which is basically a quick recap on the events of the first season. After school, they stop by the park. Seeing her friends share ice cream, Ilya does the same with Miyu. The friends start teasing them and feign they didn’t share ice cream. On the way back, suddenly Ilya and Miyu are kidnapped into a limo! No cause for panic. It is Miyu’s family car. Of course Rin and Luvia whisked them away for an emergency job. Rin received a call from the Mage’s Association that although they have recovered the cards that were disturbing the mana flow through the ley lines, 2 weeks later it showed no improvement. It could means the line is blocked or something. They want her to inject highly compressed mana into the power spot to expand the line. Although this would take dozens of mages, they have the Class Cards that have endless mana supply. Ilya is stumped that they are good friends now because they were trying to kill each other for the cards. They feign the fight never happened and are good friends. Sapphire’s translation: The Mage’s Association doesn’t want them back till they get along. Ruby’s comment: You can’t fix stupidity. Enough for the ladies to cast away their good side and begin the blaming-cum-catfight! Ah, back in familiar territory. Possible translation: Maybe the Mage’s Association don’t want them back after all… As they make their way through the forest, suddenly Rin and Luvia drop into some endless mud swamp. They are struggling to get out. And while they are still fighting each other and adamant they don’t want to die right next to the other, we have an eye candy of Ilya and Miyu’s magical girl transformation. They are pulled out but after all that fighting exhaust them. They had the energy for that useless bickering… Inside a cave, they do what is necessary. When they thought it is done and are about to leave, the entire place starts shaking violently. Miyu rescues the ladies while Ilya works to secure an exit. However Ilya changes into Archer to protect the rest with a light barrier. Everyone is fine in the aftermath as Rin notice the Archer card is missing. They are relieved to find Ilya okay too but to everyone’s surprise, there is another Ilya! OMG! Two Ilyas. How can I tell which is the real one? Simple. The other one is tanned.

Episode 2
Ilya rues that her horoscope predicts a bad day today. Ruby offers to tell a more accurate one. However all she comes out are warnings and at first Ilya thought it was a prank when a flowerpot almost hits her. But can it be a coincidence that Ilya almost got hit by a driverless truck, chased around by rabid dogs, get fired, get watered, get zapped, etc! Yeah. She’s lucky to be still alive. In the infirmary with Miyu, they talk about yesterday and it seems Dark Ilya ran away before they got a chance to talk. Ilya is worried because there is a girl out there that looks like her and people might get the wrong impression of her into cosplay. It’s time to go home when a football almost smashes into her face. On her way home, Dark Ilya appears and tries to kill her. So I guess all those were her going since she was trying to make her death look natural. I suppose killing her by her own hands would be easier. Since peace by lollipop isn’t working, Ilya and Miyu flee to the forest so they can fight her. However Ilya notices her magic is considerably weakened that it has no effect. When Miyu tries to protect her, Dark Ilya suddenly holds her and… KISS!!! OMFG!!! Yuri loli doing French kissing for a good 25 seconds!!! FREAKING SHIIIIIII!!! Ilya is mad. I remember they kissed last season but that was an accident. Maybe she wants to do that to Miyu? Actually she is upset that rumours will spread that somebody with her face stole a girl’s lips. Ilya concentrates her magic to be sharp like a sword. It works and slices Dark Ilya’s clothes. She commends her attack and backs down for now. Why? Can’t fight semi-naked? Yeah. Rumours of a cosplayer turned exhibitionist… And so with Rin and Luvia, they meet up to come up with a strategy to capture her dark counterpart. Ilya must be relieved to put her trust in such reliable people. She might regret it… Because Ilya herself becomes bait as she is tied up on a tree! And a table of lavish feast below? How dumb can they get? Dark Ilya is here and obviously knows this is a trap but decides to play along and attacks. Rin and Luvia unleash their trap but each time they do something, Dark Ilya can get out. It is like she knows and can read their next moves. I’m not surprised since the duo are that dumb, don’t you agree? Heck, Dark Ilya even got them tied up in their own trap. Dark Ilya even separates Miyu from Sapphire to turn her back into a normal girl. With Ilya left, all hope seems lost. She succumbs to her fate. But as Dark Ilya approaches, she falls into her illusionary trap. Now she is stuck in that mud swamp. It is made out of some blend that renders her magic completely inert. Guess what happens? Rin and Luvia start to get cocky. They insult and laugh at her till she cries! Who are the villains, you tell me?! Don’t you just feel bad for Dark Ilya? Even Ilya and Miyu are appalled. So appalled…

Episode 3
Dark Ilya is crucified and interrogated. For the sake of differentiation, they call her Chloe. Stem from Kuroe which basically means dark. Chloe isn’t giving any straight answers so Rin and Luvia cast a curse on her. First they take Ilya’s blood (ouch) and chant some spell after smearing the blood on her tummy. It is a one-way pain curse. If Ilya is hurt, Chloe will feel the same pain but if only Chloe is hurt, she herself will only feel it. When Ilya returns home, she is freaking shocked to see Chloe trying to flirt with Shirou! Wasn’t she supposed to be locked up?! How the f*ck the she get here?! Ilya cannot take any more of the flirting despite Ruby saying that this is possibly what Ilya’ true desire is. Ilya hurts herself to stop Chloe. Rin and Luvia come in to report that Chloe has somehow escaped from her chains. About time. They are shocked to see Shirou and have this flustered look! WTF?! They take Chloe and scram. Then the next shocking move: Miyu hugs Shirou and calls him her brother! OMG! Since when is this becoming a harem? When Miyu composes herself, she apologizes for that impulsive action since Shirou reminded her of her brother. So Ilya has got lots on her mind. Chloe and especially how much she knows about Miyu. Next morning as she heads out to school, Luvia wanted to chauffeur Shirou to school but he already left. As not to go to waste, she chauffeurs Ilya instead. Ilya tries to be friendly but Miyu remains silent. Luvia hints that there is something about Miyu’s past she doesn’t want to talk about. She also hints they could become sisters as she plans to marry Shirou! So start calling her big sister! In class, Ilya’s friends are furious! They accuse her of force kissing them! Holy sh*t! I think I know who is behind this. Worse. Fujimura is also a victim! Her first kiss… They’re going to get her as Miyu stall them so Ilya can get away. At the rooftop, Ilya witnesses how Chloe seduces another friend of hers and lands a passionate kiss! OMFG!!!!!! But as hinted, she isn’t kissing people for fun. She is sucking mana out of them and the best one was of course Miyu. Ilya is upset that she has destroyed her life. Chloe dares her. Before they could fight, her friends and Fujimura enter the scene. I supposed they were too much for Miyu to handle. Wait a second. Two Ilyas? One of them is cosplaying? Who is who? Ilya starts having a meltdown when cool Chloe mentions she is Ilya’s foreign cousin and kissing is a common greeting custom. You believe that? Yeah. She is supposed to transfer her next week but couldn’t contain her excitement to check things out early. I guess Ilya has to play along with this. But for now, run away before the girls could check out her magical girl outfit!

Episode 4
Chloe is geared up and all ready for school. Ilya can’t believe this is happening. So how did Chloe escape her imprisonment? That’s what Luvia wanted to know either. She put up the best magic locks that an ant can’t even escape but somehow Chloe did a Houdini without sweat. Chloe says she wants to try living a normal life. Besides, she already has the curse so don’t bother locking her up. Luvia agrees to this as long as she doesn’t hurt others among the few conditions. Ilya can’t believe this is happening but Luvia believes this is the best so as not to get innocent people involved. And what do you know? Chloe becomes a transfer student in the same class as Ilya and sitting next to her. What are the chances, man? Ilya’s friends throw down a challenge to Chloe for that force kiss. The game is dodgeball and the loser must obey the winner. Of course the friends have their wishes but if Chloe wins, she’ll kiss all of them every day! Holy sh*t! Better win this sh*t! Even Fujimura is joining this fight. Ilya is so uninterested that she purposely loses to sit out. Heck, it would even be better if Chloe loses. Doesn’t matter. Chloe will take on everyone herself. Fujimura became the first victim of her awesome powerful throw. Everyone is taken out and when Tatsuko is left, Ilya switches place with her after Ruby talks about Chloe usurping her life if she doesn’t do something. It becomes a fiery battle with lots of angst building up in Ilya. It’s all Chloe’s fault, right? In the end although Chloe wins, the ball in Ilya’s face means she too is knocked out from the pain. Both down. A draw. They are taken to the infirmary but the ‘bored’ nurse is just being indifferent and unprofessional in handling her patients. It’s like she doesn’t care. You wonder how the heck she became a nurse. But there may be more than meets the eye to her. Because she can tell the injuries of Ilya and Chloe are exactly in the same spot. Like as though they are opposing mirrors. She hints to Chloe that she won’t limit her freedom as long as she doesn’t do the same to her. She is the school nurse. Chloe is Ilya’s cousin. Let’s leave it as that. Panicky Fujimiura brings Shirou all the way here to help cure Ilya. Miyu observes how close Ilya and Shirou interact and this brings a certain sadness and envy to her. She notices the same expression on Chloe.

Episode 5
Ilya tries to practice a new move but accidentally blows a hole in the bathroom wall. This means everybody has to go to Luvia’s mansion to take a bath. I know Shirou isn’t a pervert but what did he do to deserve going into a small cramp bath with Luvia’s old geezer butler, August? Ambiguous gay moments… Ilya is not happy that Chloe is here too and tries to hide her. However she makes her presence known to Sella and Liz. Ilya cannot take it anymore and blasts her away. After the servants leave, Rin and Luvia join in as they hope Chloe will be on talking terms. However she isn’t going to easily reveal everything. They need to figure it out themselves. Rin notices the Archer card is missing and she saw Ilya using it. Ilya doesn’t understand how she made it work. Although their mission is to retrieve all the Class Cards, they think how they settle this is up to Ilya. What is her wish? She wants her old life back. Chloe is upset with that answer. Because did Chloe exist in her old life? She hints the card is inside her. Since it has come down to this, it is back to square one. They’re enemies again. She blasts a hole in the wall to escape. Chloe is absent from school and Ilya is back to where she started of fearing her popping out from nowhere and starts killing her. Miyu thinks she won’t since she still has that curse. They are interrupted by their friends who talk about going to the beach as promised. They want to invite Chloe too. Later Miyu goes to meet Chloe alone as requested. Although Chloe just wants to talk, Miyu remains on her guard since Chloe was close and behind her before she knew it. It’s like she had some teleport and projection magic. Miyu asks if there is a need to kill Ilya and they should coexist, Chloe doesn’t think so and Miyu attacks her. She pities Miyu for fighting for Ilya’s sake. Remember what she said about her wish yesterday? At the same time, Ruby talks to Ilya about what she said about her old life. It is like telling Chloe to disappear although we know this is not what she meant. But that is only half of it. The other half as explained by Chloe is that Ilya wished she never met any of them. Because she was dragged into this magical girl mess against her will. If she had never met Miyu, Chloe would never have come into being. This makes Miyu wonder if their bond is just an illusion. But if you remember the transpiring events of last season, Miyu knows that being called a friend is all that she needs to fight on her behalf. Miyu transform into Saber and prepares to fight. Ruby detects them fighting and they go off to stop them.

Episode 6
As they fight, Chloe explains how Miyu used the card to channel the spirit of Saber to her body. She hints that was her. Also, Chloe is able to skip all the process and arrive at the answer without having to put in much effort. Miyu warns that killing Ilya will have herself killed too. That’s fine. Everybody can die and it will be over. In that case, just go and die yourself. Ilya interrupts the fight. Miyu insists Chloe must be killed now. This is the only way to protect her. Chloe still believes they cannot coexist because as long as she tries to kill her and Ilya rejecting her existence, it is impossible. Ilya starts apologizing for not thinking through but if sorry could solve problems, we wouldn’t have been fighting in the first place, right? And so Chloe is not convinced and won’t tell Ilya what she really wants. Killing Ilya isn’t really it, right? Suddenly an old car leaps into their midst. It is Iri. Her mother instincts guide her back here. I don’t know if she’s joking or not when she asks since when Ilya got a twin. Very funny. Chloe isn’t happy to see mom either. As gratitude for erasing her existence 10 years ago, she attacks her. Ilya blocks the attack and this weakens Chloe. Chloe is confused over what she is doing so Iri invites her to jump into her arms. A trap to spank her out of commission. And then Ilya. Two wrongs don’t make a right she says. Ilya seems to have memories of Chloe when she was a toddler but wakes up in Luvia’s grand bath. Meanwhile Luvia and Rin discuss about researching about the Einzbern family. They could hardly find details and are stumped about this mysterious German family thought to be just nobles but were doing some sort of major ritual.

It is Q&A time with Iri so Ilya asks what she is exactly. Ilya was born to become the Holy Grail in the Holy Grail War as it is believed to grant any wish. Chloe corrects her. It was her who is supposed to be the Holy Grail because all knowledge were woven into her being but yet was sealed away. She is sad she was sealed away and couldn’t keep her old memories. She cannot understand why Ilya was the one who got to live a normal life. All those memories she sealed, she was part of it. She lost everything. Everything could have been hers. It is fine if Ilya gets a normal life. But at least give her a life as a mage. She wants to belong to the Einzbern. However Iri says the Einzbern family is long gone. There will never be another Holy Grail War. Chloe becomes agitated believing Ilya stole her life and has nothing left. Her anger emitted too much mana and she is on the verge of disappearing for good. What a way to die. At least being killed by Miyu was better. It’s not Ilya has taken after her and become a serial kisser. This is to inject mana back into her. She doesn’t want her to disappear after all this. She may not be as shocked when mama told her about this and the reason she is calm is because Chloe was the one being hurt. She shouldered everything that she was supposed to bear. Ilya’s tears make Chloe happy because she feels her life had meaning for someone to cry over her disappearing. Ilya won’t have that too. She’s the Holy Grail so make her wish come true. Chloe wants a normal everyday life. She doesn’t want to disappear. She wants to live. And that great amount of will was enough for her being to remain. Chloe is formally introduced to the rest of the family and will be staying with them from now on. Shirou must be a joker because he thinks Ilya and Chloe are so similar that Iri may had another man… Oh Shirou, you didn’t really think that, did you? So a happy ending and closure? Not quite. Because now Chloe is getting too close to Shirou. Get your hands off my onii-chan! Ah, a new fight arises…

Episode 7
And it may soon be as early as the next morning because Shirou wakes up to find Chloe sleeping next to him! Ilya mad. So sad that Shirou is the one being slapped and called a pervert. What did he ever do? So it is decided that since today they are making pound cake in class, they challenge they will make a better one for Shirou. It feels like the game is decided because Chloe is grouped with friends who can cook (like Miyu) while Ilya’s group contains those without talent (Tatsuko is also a saboteur type). Ilya tries to follow the recipe closely but you know her friends… Especially with Tatsuko sabotaging the ingredients twice. Nutmeg first and then mint the second time. Even if Ilya becomes a fighter not giving up, there is only so much she can cover up the taste, right? Or maybe she just made it worse. Shirou will be fair when judging people’s cooking so Chloe suggests the winner gets a kiss. Oh my! Chloe’s baking is nicely done. However he can tell it was made intended for someone else (Chloe didn’t do any baking and let her subordinates do her job while she orders around). As for Ilya’s, it tastes horrible but he can tell she put in a lot of effort and kisses her forehead! Sella beats him up for trying being a pervert. Isn’t the winner supposed to get a kiss? Well, Ilya too happy to do anything. I guess Ilya wins this round. Because the next morning, the score is levelled when Chloe is seen sleeping next to Shirou. Deja vu. Shirou gets slapped again.

Because of this, Ilya complains to mama that a hierarchy is needed to keep her in line. Iri makes a simple one. Of course herself being top of the chain (God level?) and Shirou right at the bottom. Good guys always finish last, right? Now the argument is who would be the elder sister because like mommy says, the elder sister has some sort of authority. And so the duo begin challenging each other over the slightest just to see who is better and thus become the elder sister. When the friends mention about holding a birthday party for Ilya, Chloe also mentions her birthday is the same date. Double celebration? Coincidentally Mimi also has the same birthday. Triple celebration? We know Tatsuko is lying about hers… Ilya then talks to her friends for advice to become the older sister. They relate their experience of being the older or younger sibling and let Ilya try out. You know it’s going to fail… Because that weird beehive flower hairdo with tsundere personality and show of strength (squeezing burst open the can?) and making Chloe ‘worried’ (she thinks it is better she goes see a doctor or psychiatrist or something). Ilya knows she has completely failed and forget about being big sister level, she’s now on idiot level. Back home, the duo reconcile. Chloe in a way feels grateful that her existence was continued and bought her some pudding. Personally she still feels embarrassed about the kissing part to suck mana. Just when Ilya thought things are settling down, she starts jumping the gun Chloe is trying to be nice to her to score big sister points. And the argument begins again…

Episode 8
Bazett Fraga McRemitz arrives at Fuyuki City. Luvia and Rin keep an eye on the girls from afar. Iri pops up and hopes they can help her ‘tour’ the school safely. Luvia will gladly do it because you know, it increases her chances of becoming her mother-in-law. Know what she’s saying? And of course Rin won’t let her do it alone. So they’re ‘spying’ the girls in class hiding in tree leaves and bushes. They almost got spotted by Fujimura but she is easily taken care of. Chloe could sense their presence and goes to see them. She flusters upon knowing that mother was here to check on them. Iri hopes Luvia and Rin could turn a blind eye of what they are after today. All she wants is her daughters to have a future filled with happy smiles. Rin goes to conduct some checking at the cave and realize it wasn’t complete in the first place and will report back to the association. Bazett arrives at Luvia’s mansion and is attacked by August. He sensed her bloodthirsty aura and only showed his hospitality tailored to satisfy his guest. However Bazett is not here to have fun and wants to see Luvia. Fetch her or she will find her herself. No need to. Here she is. Bazett knows Luvia should be familiar of the reason why she is here. Since Luvia feigns ignorance, Bazett attacks her. Rin just arrived and sees this. She fears the worst because she is the Church’s best enforcer and combat specialist. Half assed attacks will not slow her down a bit. August pulls out machine guns to fire but Bazett is too fast. Not even a combo with Luvia can do the trick. They make a run. August uses all he got from guns to revolvers to throwing knives and even flash grenades and he still can’t best Bazett. Eventually Luvia also lost but Rin distracts her with some weak attack so Luvia could do some self sacrificing explosive move that blows up the entire mansion! Enough for Ilya and Chloe to notice something is wrong and head over to investigate. Because the mansion is covered in some barrier, on the outside it looks like normal. Once they open the gate, they see the mansion burnt to the ground and Bazett walking towards them. She thinks they are involved too but it is a little too late for them to be reinforcements.

Episode 9
If you’re wondering where Miyu has been, she’s been sent on a ‘mission’ by Luvia to buy some rare food. She’s taking this really seriously. Bazett attacks Chloe as she transforms into her Archer mode to fight back. However Bazett knows her moves and defeats her. Ilya wants to help but it seems Ruby is just floating there instead of doing anything. Ruby explains that prior to Luvia and Rin collecting the Class Cards, Bazett was the person in charge. If you remember last season that they had a couple of Class Cards in hand, it was because Bazett was the one who collected them. When Lord Zelretech intervened, Bazett was taken off the case and replaced by the duo. Her return to this even though Luvia and Rin are still officially assigned to this mission means there is a power struggle in the higher orders of the Church. Bazett has already 4 Class Cards. Ilya still wants to fight her but Ruby doesn’t think she can win. But Ilya doesn’t care for all that predecessor crap thingy. Her friend got hurt. That is a reason good enough to fight back. Ilya transforms but is warned not to use special moves against her. Then how to fight back? She is left running from Bazett’s relentless attack. She’s like a sitting duck till Ilya concentrates her magic to lock her hands and blast a magic towards her. Too bad it was weak. Meanwhile, Luvia, Rin and August have escaped via a secret underground passage although Luvia is still weak from that reckless attack. But she can’t rest now knowing Bazett is after those cards. Bazett takes a card from Ilya and is then attacked by Chloe. She still has the curse so Ilya’s pain woke her up. But still not good enough to defeat her. Ilya is inching to retrieve the other dropped cards but Bazett stomps her hand. Ilya won’t give up. Bazett is going to finish her when Miyu arrives in time. Ilya hands her a Class Card as Miyu transforms into Rider. I won’t say Bazett is defeated but more like downed by her superior attack. Bazett cannot believe she could transform so easily when the Mage’s Association were trying ways to discover a method and still weren’t successful. Miyu asks about Luvia and Rin’s whereabouts. Under the rubble. That’s it. She is going to use Rider’s Noble Phantasm on her as Bazett readies to counter it. Something tells us it is a bad thing because Rin states Noble Phantasms don’t work on her and something horrible will happen if tried.

Episode 10
Despite warnings from Sapphire, Miyu is about to unleash her Noble Phantasm but Bazett unleashes Fragarach which nullifies it and reverses time a little for Miyu. As explained, this magic sword is activated if the enemy activates their ultimate attack. It also pierces their heart after the time reversal but since Miyu didn’t use her Noble Phantasm by her own will, that was a close call. Bazett beats her up and takes her card. Now all that is left is Archer. Guess whose body it is in? Well, it’s not like Chloe can take it out either. Yeah. Always take the violent way of ripping it out, eh? Ilya stands back up and with Chloe’s help, Chloe becomes the bait to take the first hit before Ilya. However Ilya is just an illusion set by Ruby. The real Ilya is behind her back and tries to touch the back of Bazett’s neck because she notices some magic trap on it (from Rin’s distracted attack). However she has no strength to reach it. Cue for Luvia to send some much needed magic shot to push Bazett towards her. Ilya touches it and it activates something. However Bazett quickly gets back on her feet although she knows something feels different in her body. Rin has arrived and explains what activated was the pain curse like in Chloe’s case. She even exaggerates it could cause death although this is just merely to stop her Fragarach move. Bazett is confident she can still win without it. But that’s not all. Rin shows a map of the ley lines of the city. There is a section showing where the ley line is constricted and there seems to be a cube there. It is the presence of an eighth Class Card. So if it is her mission to collect all cards, she’ll need this map that only Rin can read.

Since this is out of Bazett’s jurisdiction, she will head back to wait for further instructions. Rin also negotiates to hold 3 of the Class Cards. Is this a good move? She considers it a good victory because the best part is that all of them are still alive after that fierce fight with her. Ilya and Chloe return home very tired and messed up. The rest are unsure what happened but they have faith they didn’t do anything bad. Life returns to normal. Luvia and Rin discuss about Bazett, another problem to deal with and know she is sent by someone else. They also have to consider about the eighth card. Just when they start laughing and think how ironic their friendship have become, deep down in their hearts, this is just a ploy to ruse the other! Yeah. That’s more like it! That’s more like the Luvia and Rin we know! Keep it up :)! Ilya and Chloe continue their normal life in class. The rivalry is still there, though. Speaking of which, the rivalry for Shirou is still up for Rin and Luvia. That night Ilya and Chloe can’t sleep. The former is grateful that they managed to protect their normal everyday life. They could have lost everything yesterday but it was all here today. That’s enough reason to be proud of. Although they can’t tell what the future holds (there’s going to be a lot in store for them, if you get what I mean), at least they’re going to take it a step at a time. And first, time to look for swimsuits for their summer at the beach.

Special 1
Ilya asks Chloe about her clothes. And when she moves on about her lingerie, Chloe can immediately pick up what she is trying to ask. Cheeky Chloe pulls up Ilya’s shirt to prove that she isn’t wearing a bra. Ilya accuses Chloe of wearing one to show off because at their age, wearing a bra isn’t necessary as their chest hasn’t grown yet. Chloe mentions Sella wearing one even though she got a small bust. And she was outside hearing this… So depressing… Chloe becomes the bra expert as she explains why it is important to wear them because it shapes their breasts and keep it in shape. Unless you want those fats to spread all over. So wear a bra and turn those useless meat into fabulous boobs! Chloe then surprises Sella by lifting her shirt to prove that the right bra is essential in the shaping. See hers? No wonder she is still small. Violation! Sexual harassment! She gives hope that since their mum is the bustiest, it is not impossible for them too. Later, Sella catches Ilya red-handed as she tries out her bra just for size. Busted (no pun intended). By the way, doesn’t it feel like an insult for choosing Sella because it’s like they have the same bust size? When Liz finds out what they’re talking, she doesn’t bat an eyelid to say she has never worn one because it was a pain. Some people have all the luck. Life is so unfair…

Special 2
The bra topic continues. This time Ilya asks Miyu’s opinion about it. Miyu will go ask Luvia in turn. Rin and Luvia give their opinion but Luvia starts laughing at Rin’s commoner view. This causes Rin to be mad as she strips open Luvia’s top to prove that she is wearing a plain bra. Luvia does the same but Rin’s bra is quite fancy. Utter defeat. It descends into a full blown catfight. They would be a laughing stock if people found out why they are fighting so serious. About lingerie… Ah well, a woman’s lingerie isn’t anything trivial, right? :). In the end, Luvia decides to show off her sexy lingerie collection. Now she looks like a Victoria’s Secret model. The fight continues… Did they forget all about Miyu? So next day, Miyu tells Ilya that Luvia prepares her underwear and even so, it is too embarrassing to show her. Not like Ilya wants to see it either. Suddenly the gust of wind blows up Miyu’s clothes. Ilya sees her semi-plain underwear. Impressed? Shocked?

Special 3
Chloe is sick and put to bed by Liz. Ilya notices that what Chloe needs is some magical power but Liz insists that with Sella out for errands, she is the big sister now and decides to nurse her by herself. I mean, she can’t risk Ilya getting her illness, right? And Liz thinks Kuro wants Ilya by her side because they are such good friends. With Liz around, Ilya can’t sneak in as the former starts stripping Chloe to wipe her sweat. So as not to make her feel embarrassed, she also strips! Even more embarrassing is when Chloe notices Ilya watching from outside the window. Sella just came back and calls to Liz to help carry the groceries. Out goes Liz, in comes Ilya. And after a little friendship-big sister talk, they start kissing (I suppose it’s a reason to have some loli yuri for this magic transfer). Liz returns and sees this. Chloe is fine now but Ilya seems to have caught her illness. Liz believes of employing the same method on her based on what she saw. Yeah. Trying to force kiss! Before this lips raping scene can happen, Sella walks in after hearing a commotion. She doesn’t buy Liz’s argument that she’s nursing Ilya as a big sister since this looks more like an assault. Angry girl with white radish in hand… Doesn’t look good for Liz…

Special 4
Ilya and co see Suzuka frantic in the streets. She is afraid at this rate Tatsuko will become a criminal! Yikes! What happened? Before they know it, they are dressed in cheongsam and forced to work at a Chinese restaurant. It all began when Tatsuko saw an all-you-can-eat poster although there is a hefty fine if there are leftovers. I guess she got too greedy. Suzuka tried to stop her but even before she could, she already wallop everything. And they’ve got no money. Well, time to work their asses off. So we see them trying to lure customers in like Chloe being overly seductive, Miyu over explaining the technical stuffs and Mimi’s shy personality makes it so moe that you might want to eat her instead. Ilya is so frustrated since she told them to do it normally… Hang in there… It’s all for saving Tatsuko. A group of girls are impressed with Ilya’s fair skin in this dress. They take a liking for her and start ordering whatever there is. The rest are jealous she stole their scene as hers is the most abnormal. In the end, they manage to pay off their debt. But it seems they might have forgotten about something… Tatsuko! She has revived and continues her glutton ways. She thinks she can handle this time better. BETTER STOP HER NOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!!! Sad to say, her mouth is faster than their hands…

Special 5
Finally, Ruby and Sapphire taking centre stage. Ruby is frustrated and bored that recently there aren’t any magical girl-like fights for her to enjoy. So to relieve her stress, she is going to activate her forbidden ability of temporarily turning someone into a magical girl and not worrying about the effects since it only happens in their deep subconscious and they’ll think it’s just a dream. Sapphire tries to stop her but Ruby punches her out. Sella becomes the first ‘victim’ as Ruby lies on the table in plain sight. And now you have magical girl Sella! How will she use Ruby? To clean the house, wash clothes and other chores. Boring! But it saves on electricity bill. Boring! Next bait, Ruby lures Liz. She uses Ruby as remote control and heat up her cup noodles. Boring… Next is Fujimura. As expected, she turns into a lively superhero magical girl and is going to defeat all the evil in the world! Watch out thugs, mafias, drug lords and human trafficking organizations because here she comes! Not wanting the violent side, Ruby ditches her. By this time, Ruby realizes her stress level has gotten worse. It is going to get even worse because here comes Bazett picking her up! I don’t know what was done to her but Ruby is like close to dead. She can’t be more grateful and appreciative to be back by Ilya’s side, eh? Magical girls must always be young little lolis, right? And so… Ruby ‘dies’… Don’t worry. Sapphire punches her back up. Revenge is always so sweet…

Double Trouble! Itazura Na Kiss!
They have done it again. Yup. Just like the last time, right after the series ends, another announcement that there will be a third season, although it is actually the second part of this 2wei series. Think of it like the Hunger Games: Mockingjay or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows split into 2 parts. I suppose 10 episodes are not enough to fit in all the Ilya loli goodness so therefore another season of her is needed. I believe it is a busy and exciting moment for the Fate series since the Fate/Stay Night series following the Unlimited Blade Works arc was also made around that time. But as far as Ilya’s show is concerned, many things are not settled yet so it is only right that another season would be in the works.

This time around with Chloe entering the fray as a main character, this season feels lacking for the other supporting characters and not much development on them. Because mainly this season is mostly focus on Ilya and Chloe and their love-hate relationship on just about anything. Therefore Ruby’s sharp tongue sarcasm is sorely missed and kept to a very minimum. I was wondering and keep feeling there was something missing in this season and this was it. As the anime progresses towards the end, it seems Ruby has ‘lost’ her witty comments that we are fond of and also her serious display in the final battle makes it weird that it doesn’t feel like Ruby herself at all. This is also thanks to Rin and Luvia not making much of an appearance as compared to the first season. Because no collaboration with them means no smartass wisecracks from Ruby. After all, the cards have been collected so there is no reason for them to be together unless it really matters.

Rin and Luvia are also amusing and the constant bickering and at each other’s throat is one of the most amusing highlights of the series. Of course as said that they do not appear as much as in the previous season so the comical banter between them has been greatly reduced. Even more so, working together like best friends. This isn’t entirely wrong but we prefer to see the catfight. And of course, they couldn’t troll us even if they start faking that bogus friendship in the end. They’re just using each other. We’ll see what happens when the time comes. Miyu also feels like she has been relegated to a supporting character. At the events at the end of the last season, Miyu certainly has become friends with Ilya but with Chloe hogging the spotlight, it is hard to see Miyu and Sapphire making an impact this season. She fights to defend her friendship but that is about it.

As for Ilya, life has become better and worst at the same time. An additional enemy who became her friend and ally and finally a love rival. Oh yeah. Ilya has got it tough even at such a tender young age. If being a magical girl is tough, it is even tougher when a clone has her sights on the same big brother she adores. The source of her stress… Chloe’s hostility was probably that she wanted a place to belong. I don’t really understand about that part for the Holy Grail War and how Chloe drew the short end of the stick. My guess that she blamed Ilya for taking her normal life that she could have led and thus the animosity of getting rid of her even if it means killing herself. After all that fighting and letting out her frustrations, it is much better to coexist and live together for better or worse. Because the important thing is about the present and future instead of the past.

Shirou feels like he is given more prominence this time albeit it seems like this magical girl series is having a potential to turn into a harem genre. This guy who once ‘belonged’ only to Ilya now faces competition with Chloe and surprisingly Rin and Luvia too. Then there is that teaser from Miyu that he looks like her brother which could be seen as another potential rival for those gunning for his attention. The irony of it all is that he ranks at the bottom of the pecking order in both reality and fantasy. I suppose he is such a good guy it is no wonder almost every girl loves him. Other characters feel okay and pretty similar as we know them like Liz who continues to bum around the house instead of doing anything useful and Ilya’s supportive friends. The school nurse is a mysterious variable to the mix and something tells us that she is more than just one even though she puts on this boring expression, can’t-wait-to-go-home attitude and unprofessional behaviour.

There are a few moments of yuri and fanservice elements. With Chloe stealing our hearts and setting it aflutter (or causing it to nearly explode) with her super French kissing ability that would have shocked almost everyone in the series. Yeah. The most shocking and defining thing this season. I don’t think I can name another series that has lolis kissing each other like this. So good the yuri kiss that the girls pass out. They literally got owned. Notice how even Fujimura couldn’t help but fluster each time Chloe is called to the board to answer some questions and her body reaction would be something like flustering? I hope she doesn’t turn into a lolicon. Her reason to suck mana feels like an excuse to cover up for this. Ilya is one of those few girls who has not experienced this ‘taste of heaven’. Will she one day succumb to this? As long as it isn’t her onii-chan, right? As long as the kiss doesn’t involve an older guy because that would be most disturbing and unwanted. And for the fanservice parts, the steamy (literally) bath scenes and Chloe in her loli panties… I guess we’ll have to wait for the next season for the beach episode.

The fight scenes are still exciting and partly because they employ 3D CGI effects for the backgrounds. It is a little jarring mixing it with the 2D characters at first but if you focus on the action, you’ll get used to it and ultimately you’ll find the whole experience of the fighting scenes coupled in with magic power to be awesome thanks to the zoom in and rotating effects. Although I thought it was a shame that not all of the Class Cards were used in the battles. Especially Berserker since most of us would know this is Ilya’s Servant. Heck, I don’t think Ilya even transformed to any of the Servants other than Archer for a short while in the beginning. Only Miyu did that and it was only using Saber and Rider.

Joining the casts this season are Chiwa Saito as Chloe (Senjougahara in Monogatari Series), Hitomi Nabatame as Bazett (Margery Daw in Shakugan No Shana) and Tesshou Genda as August (Optimus Prime in Transformers). The lively generic anime pop opening theme is Moving Soul by Minami Kuribayashi while the ending theme which is as equally as lively is Two By Two by Yumeha Kouda. For the latter, I initially thought it was Chiwa Saito who sung this piece since their voices sound quite close. Must be something wrong with my ears. On a trivial note, the end card illustrations from various people with some really funny sketches (turning the characters into shoujo type art feels amusing), some disturbing ones (a shower scene of Shirou and August! OMFG!!! WTF???!!!) and some looking cool and serious.

So for those who aren’t really serious following the actual Fate series story or plot or whatever, having Ilya turned into a magical girl as a side story and her daily (mis)adventures, juggling her role as a magical girl and trying to lead a normal life with her school friends can still be an entertaining watch. It is still fun in its own right. And of course, if you’re a big Ilya fan and a lolicon, this show gives you double dose of them. Cute lolis doing cute things, cute lolis kicking ass and cute lolis just trying to be cute lolis. Ah yes, see people, this show isn’t about magical girls. It’s all about Ilya. Don’t I sound like an Ilya fan convert? I suppose this means now I will have to watch the third season to keep up with all the Ilya goodness after all that praising because I don’t want to make a loli cry, do I? That won’t be cute at all.

Because Ilya had very minimal role in the sequel prequel of Fate/Zero, so minimal to a point where you think that series could have gone on without her presence and that her appearance is just so that we don’t forget that she is part of this entirety of the Fate world, therefore a spin-off anime of her own was produced. Heh. That is how I came to conclude why Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya was made anyway. Otherwise, why do you need to take a cute half-German half-Japanese loli and turn her into a magical girl? I’m not really familiar with the Fate universe so there are lots of speculations to what I have to say, so please forgive me. I’m not sure even if this is a proper spin-off created by them or just some anime-only series. Oh wait… I think I saw the manga cover somewhere over the internet. Oh heck, I wasn’t so interested anyway. I just wanted to see if Ilya could be both amusing and cute as a magical girl. Aren’t magical girls so? And no, I’m not a fan of Ilya, please…

Episode 1
Ilya walks home with her adoptive brother, Shirou. She is not pleased that her sister Liz has opened her anime package and is watching it. Well, she paid for the postage fee, right? Sella the house helper blames Shirou for not setting a good example as her brother. Not only that, because he always does the housework, she herself has nothing to do! Meanwhile Rin and rival Luvia return to Japan after a year abroad. They’re not happy and keep blaming each other. Their talking Kaleid sticks, Ruby and Sapphire respectively advise their masters not to fight in public. And so it is inevitable. Rin and Luvia in their magical girl form are fighting above the city at night. They are going to use their Class Card but it seems not to be working. Their Kaleid sticks have had enough of them and start lecturing how they have ignored their mission and everything. The disobedient sticks renounce them as their master. Goodbye. As Ilya is taking a bath, she thought she saw something in the sky and turns off the lights to have a better look. It’s coming closer… Shirou then comes in thinking the bathroom is vacant. Ilya is totally embarrassed and ducks to hide herself. Ruby flies in and knocks out Shirou in his face. Ruby tries to persuade Ilya to become a magical girl but she remains suspicious. Ruby is sad that young girls these days aren’t interested to become one anymore. Ilya tries to mention she is the wrong person but Ruby continues to advertise the perks of being a magical girl. Destroy enemies with your beam or maybe use a love romance spell. That last one has Ilya reacted so Ruby is quick to guess perhaps her loved one is Shirou. Embarrassed Ilya denies and is about to throw the stick away but suddenly her body can’t move on its own. Seems a contract is formed via direct contact and he love power as a young girl acts as an activation key. When Ilya mentions her name, Ruby officially announces her as her master.

We see first glimpse of Ilya’s transformation scene. Ilya is not too pleased but Ruby is happy that little girls make the best magical girls unlike ‘old hags’. Seems Rin has found them and heard the sarcastic comment. Rin wants Ruby back but she won’t go back to her as Ilya is her new master. Ilya tries to explain she has been duped. But Ruby won’t leave Ilya’s hands. Changing masters is not possible without her consent. Rin slams Ruby to the wall. Ruby then tells Ilya to point her towards Rin and curse her in her head. Rin is zapped and this is Ruby’s ploy to bluff and show Rin that this is Ilya’s answer! She even puts words in Ilya’s mouth she won’t be handing her back among other insults. Mad Rin fires away but because Ruby has the best defence, Ilya is unscathed. Rin then uses a blinding light to temporarily blind Ilya and then knock her out. Ruby thought of escaping via this confusion but Rin won’t let her. However since she has chosen Ilya as her master, Rin accepts it. Initially she didn’t want to drag her into it but now that it has come to this, Rin wakes Ilya up and wants her to listen to this important thing. Blame Ruby if you want. From now on, she will be a magical girl to collect Class Cards. Oh dear. Even Ilya can tell the mess she will be getting in. Is this what being a magical girl is all about?

Episode 2
Ilya explains her real parents are busy travelling around the world. Now that Ilya is a magical girl, Rin starts her explaining. She is a mage and a candidate for the London Clock Tower chairmanship. She is here to collect cards under orders from Clock Tower and the one Rin has now is Archer. Such cards possess high level magic and very special power. In the wrong hands, it could destroy a city. This job of collecting cards is difficult and thus she was lent Archer and a Kaleid stick. Of course the stick asserts her right to choose her master. Till Rin manages to change Ruby’s mind, Ilya will be helping her to collect cards. Is this what she has signed up for? In school, Ilya’s friends can tell something is bugging her but what are the chances they will believe that magical girl thingy? But Ilya chooses to be positive since she’s already in it, might as well have fun. She thought somebody left a love letter in her locker. Excited? But it turns out to be blackmail from Rin to meet at the school grounds at midnight. Disappointed? Back home, Ruby teaches Ilya how to use her as a weapon. Twirl around and smile cutely? Is she taking her for a fool?! I don’t know cuteness is the number one offensive magical girls have. Flashback reveals Rin and Luvia were sent by a Clock Tower member to Japan to collect cards. If they successfully complete this mission, the Grand Master will accept them as disciples. They have 2 weeks to complete this dangerous mission that could cost them their lives and must work together.

Ilya meets Rin and after the former transforms, the latter explains she has detected distortions in this area. But the courtyard is empty. Seems Class Cards are to be found in a mirror world. Ruby does all the complicated dimension hopping stuffs to send them over. Instantly the Class Card of Rider starts materializing, preparing to attack them. So you have to defeat them before collecting it? So it wasn’t just a simple search and collect? Rats… As Rin’s magic doesn’t work on Rider, she leaves it all to Ilya. Letting her do the job, eh? Well, only pure magic can stop her. Close combat won’t work so Ilya tries to make some distance. Let’s say she’s good at running… Ruby tells her how to shoot magic beams with a swing. Ilya fires a powerful one. Rider takes a direct hit but it will take more than that to stop her. As Ilya gets the hang of firing beams, Rider easily dodges them all. Ruby advises Ilya to fire a barrage of smaller beams to cover wider area. Though it hits, her attack was weak. Rider is going to pull off some powerful kick ass magic so Rin wants Ilya to get back here to be protected by her barrier. Suddenly a mysterious magical girl wielding Sapphire enters the scene. She activates her Lancer Class Card and stabs Rider in the heart. Rider is defeated as she collects the card.

Episode 3
A familiar moronic laughter is heard. Oh no. It’s Luvia. Miyu Edelfelt is her apprentice. So annoying her insults that Rin deservingly beats her up. And yeah. They continue to let their fists do the talking. Hello, the mirror world is on the verge of breaking up and you still got time to punch each other? Leave it to Miyu to transport them all back. And they’re still fighting… Seems Luvia experienced exactly the same thing like Rin, the case how Miyu was turned into a magical girl. They call it for tonight and go home. But Ilya is surprised because this is not the end of it. There are more cards to collect! Didn’t sign up for this, did you? Guess what? Miyu becomes the new transfer student in Ilya’s class! So cliché. Miyu’s Finnish. There’s a vacant seat behind Ilya. She’s finished. Haha. Oops. Later Ilya gets to know Sapphire. Since Ilya knows nothing about the cards, the Kaleid sticks start explaining. Two weeks ago, the Mage’s Association detected some abnormalities in Fuyuki City. These strange magic is called Od. A team was dispatched to investigate and it was revealed the Class Cards were behind the distortions. There are 7 of them and 3 are already captured. Then they explain stuffs like Heroic Spirits, their different classes and Noble Phantasms which I believe Fate fans would understand easily. The conversation is interrupted when Miyu doesn’t want Sapphire to be seen in open.

Miyu must be an extraordinary super human because she excels way beyond an elementary kid in class. Her academic ability is so amazing that she puts up the most complicated maths formula on the board that Einstein could only understand. Her artistic ability is so good that she drew something like Picasso. Her cooking skill is so outstanding that she somehow manages to cook lots of world class cuisine with just a frying pan. Tastes so good that you want seconds! What about gym? Let’s say Miyu beat Ilya flat. No sweat at all. Do such perfect super human even exist? Well, there are magical girls, right? After school while Ilya feels down because she puts in so much effort and yet there is somebody who excels like a genius. Then she bumps into Miyu and respects her. She seems to have hit a nerve when she calls Miyu a fellow comrade. This has Miyu questioning why she is even collecting cards. She was duped by Ruby, right? What is she fighting for? Simply dragged into it, no? Because if she was serious in declining this job, Ruby would have given up. Ilya did mention she did want to do this because it feels like living out an anime or game so it’s exciting. Might as well enjoy while she’s at it. Miyu becomes upset thinking this is all a game to her. She tells her don’t bother fighting anymore and will collect the cards herself. Ilya is left baffled about Miyu’s offend and couldn’t understand why she got lectured. When she comes home, she is surprised to see a bloody huge mansion in front of her home! There wasn’t anything there before. How the heck did they make it all in just a day???!!! Don’t tell me it’s magic. And oh… Miyu lives here too… What a freaking coincidence. Surprise, surprise?

Episode 4
Everyone meets up to go on another card hunting trip. However they are well beaten up and had to retreat because Caster is one tough mother firing powerful magic beams from magic balls covering the entire sky! Luckily they escaped in the nick of time otherwise they would have been vaporised by her most powerful magic shot. They discuss their strategy and they think they’ll stand a chance if they can fly above those magic balls. However flying is a very advanced skill for magical girls. Say what? Then why is Ilya doing it so easily? Yeah. They can’t believe it either. How does she fly so easy? Simple. Don’t all magical girls fly? As Ilya trains, Luvia is going to have Miyu train to fly too. Yeah. Throwing her off the helicopter without a parachute! Leap of faith? Humans weren’t made to fly! She comes crashing down missing Ilya by an inch. If not for the magical barrier, she could have been flat. Look what a big crater it caused. Ilya offers to teach her how to fly but Miyu sucks. She just doesn’t get it. Or maybe Ilya is a bad teacher. Sapphire thinks there is some source that Ilya imagines that made her fly easily. That source turns out to be her magical girl animes. Miyu still thinks it will be impossible even if she watches the entire series. She starts explaining all the theory, logic and laws, quoting equations why it is impossible. I think Ilya’s brain is going to explode hearing all that. So the best advice to her to fly is: Don’t think, cast away your logic and imagine. I think Miyu may have a hard time buying that too.

The girls meet up for another round of attack. The plan is to have Ilya distract Caster and let Miyu handle the offense. Things start off well and although Miyu doesn’t fly, she’s like walking on air. Well, it’s almost the same as flying. A miscalculation has Miyu shot down, bleeding and almost killed if Ilya had not acted fast to save her. To make things worse, Caster can teleport so their blasts cannot hit her directly. Ilya then purposely attacks Caster to make her teleport so when she reappears, Miyu will fire all she’s got. It worked as Rin and Luvia finish the job. Have they? Because Caster teleported at the last minute and is about to unleash her most powerful magic beam. Miyu rushes there but can she make it in time? Ilya fires a magical beam to serve as Miyu’s stepping stone to cut down Caster. With Caster down for good, we hear explanation from Sapphire and Miyu about her air walking in which she solidifies the mana in mid-air and using it as her foothold. Sapphire couldn’t understand Miyu’s words of fighting alone yesterday but their victory today is possible only because they cooperated. She believes Ilya can be trusted. Rin and Luvia feel strange that the world isn’t collapsing yet. Suddenly they are done in by… Saber! No time to rest yet. Here comes your next opponent.

Episode 5
There are only 2 choices: Fight and defeat Saber now or secure the others and escape. Since they’re not powerful enough I guess the second one is the only option. Miyu will distract Saber while Ilya secures them. However Saber is not moving an inch and this means Miyu cannot unleash a bigger blast. Furthermore, Saber’s black mist aura is one powerful mother whether in offence or defence. Saber shifts her attention to Ilya. She almost got killed. Because of that, she is in shock just like a sitting duck. It took Miyu to come to her rescue. The girls are in a dilemma what to do. Saber is good in both short and long range fighting. They cannot defeat or rescue their friends. What will they do? Saber gets caught off guard by Rin’s explosive gemstones. I guess sleeping time is over. Could you believe it, even at times like this, Rin and Luvia can still trade insults. Please get serious. They go on the offensive against Saber. Miyu and Ilya end up arguing because the former wants to play the heroine to hinder Saber, something which Ilya is against. Ruby smacks them both and doesn’t want them to fight among themselves. The Kaleid sticks agree to this last resort. Just when it seems Ilya and Miyu are joining the fight, they actually throw their Kaleid sticks to Rin and Luvia. For that brief moment, they register them as magical girls again. Rin and Luvia are temporary magical girls and their power back at full force just to defeat Saber. And please, enough with the insults. Just defeat Saber. Luvia fires her magic around Saber’s black mana mist to dissipate it so that Rin can go up close for melee combat to lead Saber stepping onto a magic trap. Just a minor setback for Saber. Despite the constant bickering between the ladies, it’s hard to admit that they make a good team as their teamwork is perfect. Rin goes in for another round of melee combat. This time purposely getting hit so she can fire a blast point blank. But all this is just to buy time for Luvia setting up her magic circles. They’re going to blast it all way.

Episode 6
So powerful that let’s say a huge ‘waterfall’ is created in the river. Now with Saber out of the way, the duo can get back to insulting each other at full swing. Uncivilized monkey. Shameful sausage curls. It’s like they were waiting all night for this… Before they can take it out on each other, Saber returns! Surprised? She uses Excalibur to swing the most powerful blast ever. Let’s say the entire place is almost decimated and the ‘waterfall’ is much greater now. Ilya and Miyu are seen left standing. Oh no. Ilya fears they are dead. But not Saber. She’s targeting them. No place to run. No place to hide. Ilya is so scared (or upset) that some inner lock breaks. Then it’s like she uses the Archer card and starts turning into a badass killing machine. Look at those killer eyes… Hmm… This scene looks familiar… Unlimited Blade Works? And here we are, Ilya becomes the Heroic Spirit of Archer! OMG! She’s powerful enough to stop Saber’s blast with a single hand! She’s fast enough to go up to her and slice her up while evading her counter attack! She’s cool. She’s badass. She’s… Ilya? She’s got loads of arsenal. From firing her arrows and summoning swords. We witness a cool swordfight between the both of them and when Saber is about to use her Excalibur again, Ilya also summons her own Excalibur. The battle of Excalibur. Who is going to win? Obviously Ilya. Once Saber is vaporized, Ilya returns to normal and collapses. She narrates she has no memory of what happened. Despite Miyu being the only witness, it was hard to understand what happened. Anyhow, they managed to survive. As for Rin, Luvia and the sticks, they managed to bury themselves underground so don’t worry, they’re still pretty much alive. Although Ilya is unconscious, that event put her body under great stress. Miyu carries her home.

Episode 7
Ilya is sick although she doesn’t want to admit it. Sella forces her to stay home. Bored as hell… Bored to death. Hey, better than dying in the battlefield. Ruby turns into a telephone so that Ilya can talk to Miyu. Since their conversation is getting awkward, Ruby turns into a projector so Ilya can do video conferencing and talk better. I didn’t know such sticks have so many functions in them. To Ilya’s surprise… MIYU IN A MAID OUTFIT!!! Suddenly a weird switch is flipped. She wants Miyu here, now, on the double! In those clothes! Like roles reversal, Miyu becomes the timid one while Ilya the sexual harassing monster. Miyu explains that she is Luvia’s maid in exchange for taking her in and helping her collect the cards. When Ilya praises Miyu for defeating the enemy in the last battle, Sapphire talks privately to Ruby. She witnessed the fight and says it was actually Ilya who defeated Saber. She connects the USB (I would really love such magical sticks) and transfers what she saw. They wonder if Class Cards are to be used that way but are glad they won anyway. When they return, they see Ilya dominating over Miyu! Oh sh*t! When did she learn to sexually abuse maids?! After they made up and renew their friendship, Ilya’s sick switch turns on again. She strips herself and wants Miyu to wipe her body. Then her friends come in for a surprise visit. Oh sh*t…  Some kind of advanced fetish play? After everybody leaves, Sella is seen dressed in her traditional Einzbern maid outfit just to please Ilya. However she is not amused and ignores her. Frills over tradition… Yeah. Don’t deny it. Behold the influence of maid power. Ilya notes that even if it’s just a little, she feels closer to Miyu than before.

The girls are in another card hunt. As they look around, Ilya’s neck is suddenly grazed by a knife. Everyone forms a defensive circle. Here comes Assassin. Or make that, Assassins. You mean we’ve got to defeat all 50 of them? Ilya’s vision starts to get hazy. Her thinking starts to be less sharp. The bruise on her neck is getting worse. Her mind starts going crazy, thinking about blades, blood and death. She now remembers what happened during Saber’s fight. The girls make a run but Ilya couldn’t and collapses. Rin realizes too late she has been poisoned. The Assassins throw all their knives at her. Her friends can’t reach back in time to save her. Ilya wonders if this is how they’re going to die when suddenly that inner lock of her unleashes again. This time a huge explosion occurs. Assassin is defeated and there is a huge crater covering a wide perimeter. Miyu lectures her that if she had not put up the defence barrier in time, she would have killed them all. She blames her for being hit first, messed up and caused her mana to explode. Although she defeated the enemy, if it wasn’t for her, they would not be in danger in the first place. She has had it. She doesn’t want to fight with her anymore. Broken hearted Ilya flies away. The truth always hurts… And it always tastes bitter.

Episode 8
Ilya returns to school but her friends can tell there is an awkward atmosphere between her and Miyu. They’re not talking. They’re not even looking at each other although they sit close to each other. The girls are to form groups to do artwork and tell a story from it. Miyu decides to become Lone Ranger and gets things done herself. Their friend Tatsuko seems to be drawing horror drawings instead of Japanese folklore… Ilya is being forced to do the storyline although she vehemently declines since it’s impossible for her. She’s a normal girl, right? The Kaleid sticks also sense the tension between the magical girls. Sapphire remembers when she first made a contract with Miyu. Soon after, Luvia came looking for the stick when Miyu popped out. She will collect cards on her behalf in exchange for a home, food, clothes and a place to belong. Even back home, Sella can tell something is wrong with Ilya. Like she is hiding something. Liz doesn’t give a damn so Sella chides her sister and for not even doing a proper job as a maid. Yeah. And here I thought she was a resident-cum-master of this house. Sella warns she will be fat this way but Liz replies all her fats go into her boobs. This causes Sella to be upset and start a boob war. Eliminate all unnecessary bags of meat! When Shirou comes back, he hears about the boob problem till and thinks they’re talking about Ilya till he realizes Sella was the subject. Now she blows her top. Since Ilya still feels down, Ruby suggests her to talk to Rin how she really feels. Ilya meets up with her and hands in her resignation letter. Rin expected this. At first, Ilya was curious and did it for fun but after nearly dying twice and reflecting on Miyu’s words, it’s not so fun anymore. Rin understands and relieves her from her contract. However Ruby won’t pick Rin as her master citing she wants to choose her own. Fine. Have it your way. There is only 1 more card left to collect. Rin thanks Ilya for everything and hopes she will have a normal life. But Ilya doesn’t feel relieved. In fact, she feels a little pain in her heart. Of course Miyu is there and heard everything. She has no qualms of Ilya quitting. Ruby still sticks by Ilya’s side because she feels their fates are intertwined despite Ilya not having anything to do with collecting cards anymore. She’ll stay with her even if she isn’t fighting. Sounds like annoyance… She is sure there comes a time when Ilya will need magical girl powers but Ilya believes that won’t ever happen again.

Episode 9
It’s back to the simple and normal life for Ilya. Oh. Her mom’s back. Does she need an announcement to be with her daughter and do some skinship? Iri wonders if anything big has happened while she was away. It’s not the magical girl thing that she caught on. It’s that huge mansion across the road. Ilya mentions about Miyu who lives there and Iri would love to hear more about her. Ilya describes her as a quiet girl, good in everything and always like to do things alone. Ilya then indirectly explains the magical girl stuff they did together and one day they came close to losing. She feels she was completely useless and caused everyone trouble. Iri wonders if she was that scared to be blamed for her team’s failure. Of course she is. She screwed up big time and did something that cannot be undone. Iri asks if she is the only one who is scared and having a hard time. Miyu might not look like it and despite being good everything, being alone is always difficult. She probably said all those stuffs so she could shoulder the burden alone including Ilya’s since she was scared. Ilya then just realized. Why didn’t Miyu say all this in the first place? Well, she’s a quiet girl, wasn’t she? Ilya still feels scared of messing up again but she really wants to help Miyu. Iri answers that Miyu helped her when she was scared. Now it’s her turn to muster her courage so she can help Miyu. She is confident Ilya will do a fine job. With that, Ilya bolts out from the house to find Miyu. Without hesitation, she has Ruby transform her into a magical girl. Miyu, Rin and Luvia are fighting against Berserker. It’s insanely powerful and strong and you don’t want to get a direct hit. Worse, it can resurrect and heal itself. Rin suggests retreating and coming again another time. However Miyu teleports the rest away. Only she and Sapphire remains. She will take care of this once and for all. Because she saw how Ilya did it, she uses the Class Card of Saber to transform herself into a Heroic Spirit. Better say those lines fast because Berserker is charging in. Miyu slays Berserker a number of times but each time he heals to a point where Miyu’s sword cannot penetrate his skin as it has become immune to it. She will defeat him as long as it takes. She will not retreat because if she does, Ilya will have to fight next. And she already made it clear she doesn’t want to fight. She is after all the first person who called her a friend. Miyu loses all her mana and returns back to normal. Is it over? Apparently not. Here comes Berserker. Rising again. He has Sapphire in his grasp. Before Miyu could be squashed, here comes Ilya slicing Berserker into half! Why is she here? Because Miyu is her important friend.

Episode 10
Rin and Luvia are here too. They use higher magic to bind Berserker. I guess this gives enough time for the girls to reconcile. Ilya apologizes and admits she has been naive and foolish and ran away when things got dangerous. She wants to be by her side and fight with her. Likewise, Miyu expresses the same wish. I hope they’re done because Berserker is about to break free. Ilya has a plan. When the girls scatter, Ilya seems to be the bait for Berserker. Rin and Luvia temporarily blind Berserker with a blinding light so Ilya can fire a powerful magic point blank. This is followed by Miyu thrusting Lancer’s spear into his heart. Did they finally do it? Well, no. Berserker resurrects. Again. They’re out of options. Ilya feels hesitant to use her Class Card so Miyu is okay with that and will go on the offense while Ilya provides support. But Ilya casts away her fear and wants to do it with her. Thanks to her, she realizes that she can’t move forward if she abandons her friends. Miyu also realizes that there are some things you can’t do alone. They each summon Excalibur and blow away Berserker. Finally this dude is defeated. With all the Class Cards collected, Rin and Luvia thank them for their help. All that is left is to bring them back to Grand Master but Luvia snatches them and will claim all the credit for herself! Oh no. Here we go again. The real rivalry begins now! As for our young magical girls, they walk home hand in hand like best friends.

Ilya is awakened next morning by Shirou. She gets a little bold wanting a morning kiss and does it. Bad news: It was only a dream. Even bad news: She kissed Miyu!!! In fact, Miyu is okay with it and will go along this route if she wants. Before this turns into some loli yuri anime, Ilya puts her foot down. Thank God this weird fetish didn’t awake inside her. Iri also leaves as fast as she returns as she can’t leave Kiritsugu alone. She is glad to have watched her daughter grown up. Ilya and Miyu are running late to school. Because the Kaleid sticks are staying with them, they transform into their magical girl form to fly. As long as nobody sees them… In school, Miyu is so close to Ilya that it just gives off the wrong vibes. See how she holds her arm like lovers? Even her friends are stumped. What just happened? Yesterday they seemed like they had a fall out and today, it’s like they’ve been best friends forever. Could be even more. They are glad that they are getting along. However when they want to be friends with Miyu, she tells them off she doesn’t need them! She only needs Ilya as her friend! Who cares about the rest! Oh sh*t! I have a feeling this is going to be a yandere route if it’s left like this! Poor Tatsuko left crying like mad. Meanwhile, Rin has been told a devastating news by Grand Master. Although they have collected the cards as instructed, he will take them under their wing as promised. However there is another condition. Seeing that they lack common sense and need to learn it before they continue their magic studies. Conveniently they are in Japan, the land famous for good values of cooperation and harmony. Study there for a year and then we’ll see about it. I guess this is what happens when you fight too much. Now they’re going to be at each other’s throat again for another full year. I hope Japan survives… Oh, did Rin become Luvia’s maid?!

Specials

Those extra little episodes that lasts a handful of minutes when you buy the BDs. Funnier and cuter stuffs from Ilya and the gang… Laugh your heart out…

Special 1
In this segment, Ruby has Ilya and Rin as guests so that they can replay certain scenes and relive their mistakes. For her to criticize and have fun, no? The first when is during Rin and Luvia’s fight when they are still magical girls. Rin is not amused and leaves but falls through a trap door. Next is Ilya’s magical girl transformation scene. It’s very embarrassing to her but Ruby just digs this section and obsessing over how cute Ilya is. Isn’t this just bullying? Noticing the difference in Ilya’s and Rin’s magical girl outfit, it seems that Rin had ears and tail (Ruby’s way of teasing her). Ruby regrets not putting it on for Ilya and forces a complete makeover! Now we have Ilya in beast mode! This isn’t magical girl anymore. This is a pervert! Well, perversion is becoming more mainstream in Japan (so Ruby claims) and to stem that embarrassment, she has Ilya undergo some training. Posing in sexy poses for our viewing pleasure… You can’t fight it, Ilya! Go with the flow! Then Rin just walks in and saw the entire thing…

Special 2
Who wants to be a millionaire?! Ilya is just a step away from 100 million Yen and the final question is: Which of the following does Ilya have a secret crush on! Oh sh*t! How can she answer that! Can you guess? A) Ichirou; B) Jirou; C) Saburou; D) Shirou. Ruby the host forces Ilya to use a lifeline even if she declines. The 50/50 lifeline just made the choice more obvious. Saburou or Shirou? Ruby forces Ilya to call for help. Who is that Ruby has dialled? Her brother! Ilya smashes the phone and accuses her of doing this on purpose. But now it’s time for her answer. What will it be? Then she sees Tatsuko in a funny mask in the stand and thus decided. She picks Saburou. Is that her final answer? Yes. Unfortunately, that’s not the correct answer. She loses the money but if you think about it, the answer makes it obvious who she has a crush on, right? And Ilya is screaming like a mad woman denying everything. All the answers on screen were wrong! Everything!

Special 3
Sella is horrified she has gained weight! When the entire household says that aloud in surprise, only Shirou gets owned. Sella starts analyzing how this is even possible as she has taken care of every aspect, blah, blah, blah to maintain her weight. She becomes a strict Gestapo immigrant officer and will rid of this illegal immigrant known as fats. She undergoes extreme dieting and dinner has become extremely modest. Why do Shirou and Ilya have to suffer? Although she loses some weight and a few more to go, she even gets the idea that she can even lose more. But she loses consciousness and passes out. When she wakes up, she is told by Ilya that she misses her cooking and wants to eat her normal everyday cooking. She has rarely smiled since and that is not healthy. Sella is touched that she is thought a lesson by Ilya. Because she neglected Ilya and promises to return to her duties. So while Shirou cooks and they have a decent meal, it is when Sella realized something. Wasn’t Shirou on cooking duty for 2 nights in a week? Yup. He was trying out some Chinese cooking since he got a new wok. Ah well. Here is the criminal who made her fat. Sella the Gestapo punishes Shirou. Too bad about the new wok…

Special 4
Ilya is enjoying a good time resting in her room when suddenly somebody crashes through her window! It’s Rin. But in a maid outfit?! I’m sure Ilya is shocked at the developments of everything but care to explain? Seems Rin has become a maid to earn money. She was horrified when she found no more jewels in her box and became desperate for a job. She saw in an ad a high paying job as a maid, 10,000 Yen an hour! Too good to be true! Plus, additional 5,000 Yen bonus if she has certain traits. And those traits seem to fit Rin… Hmm… Without thinking much, she accepted the job and then she realized the trouble she has gotten into. Because she has become a maid for Luvia!!!! Holy sh*t!!! Despite Rin hating the job and place, she perseveres just to earn the money. However due to constant bullying and shaming by Luvia, she has had it and ran away. Before that, she smashed a pot on Luvia’s head! Oh well, kiss her pay goodbye. Will Luvia be alright? The phrase the series was infamously remembered for (a modified version anyway): “She wouldn’t die even if she was killed”. Oh God! Rin laments she needs to find another job although she won’t find one which is as good as this anymore. Suddenly here comes Luvia. She apologizes for being childish and should be ashamed of herself for beating her into submission. She hopes they will settle their grudge when they are on equal terms and promises she won’t let her personal feelings intervene. Rin accepts her apology and obediently goes back with her. But Ilya saw the killer aura emitting from Rin and Luvia… Lies? Not over by a long shot. But what she is worried about is the tendency of people to come in through her veranda these days… Maybe they need some sort of a dramatic entry?

Special 5
Wait a minute. A special without featuring Ilya?! How can this be? Iri, Liz and Sella are playing a modified game of Life made by Iri. Seems all the squares they land will either have them take off or steal clothes from others. Sella doesn’t want to play this and tries to leave but the duo become ‘demons’ to force her to stay in the game. It looks like the game may be rigged because Iri is winning while Liz and Sella are stripped to their undies. Liz might not care but it’s a big deal for Sella. Yeah, Iri just love this great feeling of being dominant. Sella laments all she wanted was a new frying pan. Iri could have bought it for her even if they didn’t play this game. That doesn’t sound related… But anyway Iri wins the game and the rules dictate the winner will have the losers obey. The duo are put in a sexy apron outfit and Shirou is shocked-cum-embarrassed to see this. They are forced to act like a maid-cum-housewife. Liz is pretty okay but Sella is blushing all over. Liz gets cheeky if Shirou wants dinner, bath or Sella first. When Shirou picks dinner, Sella gets mad and beats him up! What the heck did he do?!

OVA

The sports festival is around the corner but Miyu has never experienced one before. But the final and main event of this sports festival is the class dance. Miyu may be athletic and all but she certainly has never danced before. On the way out, the friends eavesdrop Fujimura being confronted by a teacher. Seems he wants her ‘meat’ and if her class loses in the sports festival, he will eat all her ‘delicious meat’ that he likes whenever he wants. Gosh! Guess what the lolis figure out? Yup. Fujimura might become his sex slave! Wow. Lolis do know their terms these days. So all they have to do is win, right? But they didn’t know Miyu sucked this much in dancing. Ilya tries out and looks like she has some talent but a little fine tuning is needed. Okay, don’t panic yet. There is still time to practice. So everybody works hard to practice their dance. Yeah, everybody brazenly falls asleep in Fujimura’s class. But Miyu continues to practice herself after school, though she doesn’t seem to make any progress. Ilya comes along to give several heartfelt advices and image training for Miyu to dance. Express that feeling in your heart to move your body. Imagine dancing with her friends. It’ll be so much fun. I hope Ilya didn’t rant too long that she herself fell asleep. I suppose she’s tired from all that training. Sapphire hints to Miyu that she can use her if she’s feeling tired.

During sports day, Fujimura tries to rev up her class but it seems they’re already very motivated. All for the win! Since all the classes’ points are close to each other, the dance will determine the winner. The friends notice Miyu’s different hairstyle but she doesn’t want them to touch it. Ilya thinks she knows what is going on and explains it is probably Miyu is in intense concentration and doesn’t want it broken. So when it’s Ilya’s class turn, they put up a cute idol group dance. Everyone is amazed Miyu could dance so well and didn’t slip up. Later up at the rooftop, it is revealed Sapphire was hiding as Miyu’s hair band and this enabled her to use some magic to smoothen the process for her mental image transfer thingy. Seems Ilya also did the same with Ruby. Everyone is glad they saved Fujimura and she too is happy for their win. So happy that she reveals she will get all the meat now! What? She collected stamps from the purchase of school equipment, sent them to a contest and won all the high quality meat. So when the teachers found out, they were furious and decided the winning teacher on sports day gets to keep all that meat. So, it was just literally meat. No sexual innuendoes whatsoever. Disappointed? I’m sure the kids are. So much so they plan to head to Fujimura’s house for a victory party celebration! They’ve earned it, right?! Oh yeah! Share the meat!

I guess that isn’t the end of it yet. Right after the TV series ended, the second season has been given the green light for production. I suppose Ilya must be popular enough to warrant another season. You don’t even need to be a lolicon to admit the cuteness and moe that Ilya exudes throughout this show whether she is a normal girl or in her magical girl form. Ilya is like the epitome of cuteness and moe! And that’s coming from me who isn’t a fan of her. No, I’m not being tsundere either. But looks like the next season would seem grimmer as we have been given a glimpse of a mysterious character with that feels ominous. But as far as this season is concerned, it is quite entertaining with the action, comedy and the power of friendship.

So this magical girl encounter for Ilya has certainly changed her in a lot of ways. Especially the importance of friendship, which I feel is the main theme of this series. The cute thing about Ilya (heck, like I said, everything about her is cute even when she is a sad loli) is when she first became a magical girl. The surprise in her face like as though she never expected this to be part of a magical girl’s job is just priceless. Never heard of it, eh? I’m sure she forgot to read the finer lines of the contract when she signed up for this. She’s pretty dangerous when she sees her cute friend in a maid outfit. Yeah. Not dangerous when she’s behind a wand or used a Class Card to power up. Pervert crazily dangerous. Now it feels like it is biting back at her when Miyu is sticking so darn close to her. This one as she said is going to be her toughest battle yet. How to get along with her and the rest of her friends without her turning into yandere. It makes slaying Berserker look like child’s play.

You can say that Miyu is like a complete opposite in terms of personality compared to Ilya. For she is quiet and stoic. She lacks the lively expression that Ilya has whenever she speaks. So monotonous (sometimes to a point that it sounds ominous) her talk that it is hard to guess what she actually feels. I suppose that’s why she is a good example for the meaning ‘still waters run deep’. That’s why it was easily for us to at first cast her off as either an obnoxious loner or a very serious responsible girl. Even when she becomes the closest friend to Ilya in the end, she still doesn’t show much improvement in her emotions. Although she did smile and it does make her look better, maybe she should work on her facial expression instead of flying as a magical girl. Overall, it boils down to the simple fact that Miyu just wanted somebody to call a friend. Just like how she wanted a place to belong and she found that in Luvia. Doing things alone is perhaps her way of trying not to hurt her friend and get her involved in dangerous stuff.

It just hit me when they said something in this anime about magical girls do not really fly. We have been so use to the fact that magical girls transform, wield some wand, have magic powers to fight evil and to some even a magical pet of their own. It never crossed our minds that they cannot fly. It’s like common knowledge, if I should put it that way. At least as far as this anime is concerned. That’s why it was rather funny to hear them say about it and be in shock that magical girls aren’t supposed to fly this easy. Yeah. It took Miyu quite some time to digest it and was quite in denial mode for a while. Hey, can science explain about magical girls? So what does that say about flying? Yeah. Don’t think so much. But when Rin and Luvia were first in action, we already see them flying in the sky blasting the hell out of each other. So only high level magic users can fly? Aren’t magical girls supposed to be filled with lots of magic power?

Ruby has been the liveliest character and perhaps the most amusing one because of her tendency to be sarcastic and is filled with wisecracks. I believe I have not seen a magic accessory this cheeky and talkative as Ruby. She is even temperamental to a point she acknowledges who she wants for her master. Or maybe she has loli fetish instead of ‘old saggy hags’. Sapphire is a complete opposite and lacks the liveliness or mischievous attitude that is so permeating out from Ruby and is more reserved and polite. Both sticks are like day and night if you want to size them up but they get along pretty well. The other amusing pair is of course Rin and Luvia. It gets amusing when they start bickering with each other for the pettiest things. It’s like a love-hate relationship but leaning towards more the hate side. Whenever they are not serious and cooperating to complete their mission, we are rest assured to be ‘entertained’ by their squabbles especially Luvia’s high class nobility arrogance (moronic laughter to Rin) or Rin’s uncivilized and unfeminine ways. Had they do this more often, they could have overshadowed Ilya and this series since they never really tire of it. That would be really bad, wouldn’t it? They’re a good combination in fighting but somehow I feel they make good comedians too if they keep up this arguing. They know each other so well, right?

Other characters feel okay and felt like a little side distraction to provide some comic relief to the entire series that otherwise would have been dominated by the new magical girls, the ‘old’ ex-magical girls and their talking sticks. Ilya’s friends come in all forms and variety from nice girl to hyper active idiot, tall bespectacled girl to petite little one. I feel Shirou’s role is just to provide some one-sided romance from Ilya’s side (but of course, what else?) but as expected, nothing in this section goes anywhere. Another day and night comparison is Sella and Liz. Both sisters and maids of Ilya’s house but one is serious and dedicated while the other very carefree and a slacker. So much so for those unfamiliar with them will start thinking Liz is a freeloader in this house. I guess life isn’t fair. Liz bums around watching TV every day eating snacks as she wants and she doesn’t gain a single pound. If not, it all goes to her boobs. Unlike Sella… No wonder she is so easily infuriated. My guess is if Ilya’s magical girl job is discovered by everyone she knows, I am sure that they will still love her as much as before because you know, she’s still the same Ilya inside and out, right? Otherwise, is there a rule saying that magical girls must keep their identity a secret?

Action is also nicely done and well executed. Each battle to collect the cards is filled with lots of power and magic blasting action of great proportions. I guess that is why the mirror world exists so that it gives them excuse to put their magic to good use and go wild. But my favourite battle has got to be Ilya’s match with Saber in her Archer form. That match was quite exhilarating, exciting, non-stop sword clashing, magic blasting bout and a reminder why I was enthralled by the Fate/Zero anime. Speaking of the drawing and art, although not obvious, I find that the characters are given a slightly cuter feel. It is more apparent for Rin because from my side, she doesn’t look like her teenager form as seen in Fate/Stay Night. The end card at the end of each episode illustrated by different people is quite okay, though I feel that the styles are very similar.

The opening theme is Starlog by Choucho and sounds like a lively anime pop. The main ending theme is Prism Sympathy by StylipS and sounds like your typical magical girl anime pop. The special ending theme for episode 9 is Tsunagu Kizuna Tsutsumu Kodoku also by StylipS, not as lively as the rest and filled with those ‘sad’ words about loneliness and hurting but eventually there is still hope. There are a couple of insert songs, all of them sung by Choucho and play to a slower tune.

And so it shows that being a magical girl isn’t necessary a bed of flowers. Nothing new, really. We’ve seen it in Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica already. You can fly and use your magic powers to fight evil in the name of justice. Maybe you’ll just have to put up with the embarrassing magical girl outfit. Some can be cute but some can be just tad embarrassing. Besides, doesn’t some magical powers are fuelled by pure innocence and embarrassment? And does it matter if magical girls can only be helmed by young girls? Is there such a rule saying that girls who have crossed a certain age are too ‘old’ to become one? Whoever came up with that rule must be a lolicon. Definitely.
