Ichigo Mashimaro Encore OVA

September 12, 2009

I guess it is not enough having one OVA season of lolis so much so they need to produce another OVA to satisfy hardcore lolicon fans. I think. Which series am I talking about? If you have seen Ichigo Mashimaro or at least a fan of the series, you would have known that a second batch of OVA has already came out, entitled Ichigo Mashimaro Encore. Yeah, I suppose the encore word is fitting in a way because it’s like we need to more doses of loli goodness after a long lapse of period.

Mind you, I’m not a lolicon but the main motivation for me to catch this 2 episode OVA is definitely Miu. That’s right. The troublemaking little loli whose thinking and logic is one kind (and rather twisted) that she may cause those around her to cringe and die a thousand deaths and those who have died to turn in their graves over and over again. If she grows up to be a villain, she’ll definitely be a ‘worthy’ one and leave heroes in stitches. But that’s not the point in case for this OVA. Miu is still causing her usual troubles and the main reason why this otherwise mundane series is funny. So want to know what she is up this time? Read on…

Episode 1
Chika’s home phone rings but nobody is at the other end of the line when she picks up. Enter Miu who uses her handphone to ‘test’ whether it is working (note those funny black devils on her screen!). Due to their proximity, Chika thinks it is useless until the phone rings again. This time Miu answers it and I’m not sure why she gave the thumbs up seeing that there isn’t any reply. Later the usual gang gathers and Miu’s handphone tone freaks the rest out. I wouldn’t want to question Miu’s rationale of Matsuri doing some practice with a handphone in case of being kidnapped during free study period. Since Matsuri is involved, I guess lolicon lover Nobue decides to ‘help out’ by donning goggles and ski hat and act as some ferocious monster. Poor weak Matsuri finds it hard to push the button on the handphone to activate some call for help. In the end, Nobue carries her away. After that, she assures Matsuri that she herself will come by her rescue to push the buzzard, making her feel relieved. Nobue then gets a wrong number call from Hiroshima. I don’t know why she yelled "Okonomiyaki!". When they are discussing of what to paint during free study period, Miu suddenly says she wants to be an idol and starts doing a back flip to show off her talent. Kids, don’t try this at home.

That’s because the next thing Miu knows is that she is dead and in the other world when she opened her eyes. Does the halo over her head tell you anything? I’m sure the rest would prefer Miu this way but would it be fun? Anyway a girl named Noguchi (it’s Matsuri by the way. I’ll refer to her and the rest by their real names instead), approaches Miu and is some sort of guide in the after life. Even in the after life, Miu can still cause her mischief. No repentance, eh? Matsuri takes Miu to see the judge of the after life, Enma (Nobue). Not sure if this alcoholic cigarette smoking girl fits the role but as she is looking over Miu’s records, she concludes she isn’t a good person (very true). I guess a person like Miu doesn’t know her place and questions Nobue’s decision. So her end judgement? Heaven or hell? You guessed right. Hell suits her. Miu tries to act all goody. Feeble Matsuri tries to catch her but she gets a chop at the back of her neck. Yeah, can a dead spirit do this? Not if you’re Miu. She tries to make a run to heaven’s gate but Nobue zaps her and drops a basin on her head.

Matsuri continues to bring Miu to see the devil Sasaki (Chika). Miu continues to tease Chika of her embarrassing outfit and the possibility of this hell. As mentioned by Chika, in hell they’re supposed to do things one hates the most. For Miu, it is doing jokes without comebacks (getting hit with the paper fan, that is). This girl is so weird. Miu tries to do several funny jokes as Chika tries to hold it in until she finally can’t and hits her with the paper fan. Devil lost to loli… Next, Chika decides to force Miu to eat some greens but she’s putting up quite a fight. Because of her stinking behaviour, Chika tells Matsuri to take her to heaven. Hehe, don’t want a trouble maker like her even in hell, no?

They arrive via lift and they see angel Shinohara (Ana). Miu lifts up Ana’s skirt to see if she’s wearing any panties beneath and deservingly gets kicked. Then Miu wants Ana to grant her wish of bigger boobs to prove that this is heaven. She does and Miu is happy with the results, though I don’t see any difference. She then has Ana demonstrate her ability to fly and is impressed. Ana also grants Miu a pair of wings on her request to fly. But it is all part of Miu’s plan to escape! Upon realizing that they have been tricked, Ana chases Miu but the latter fast approaches the exit. When she heads out, she even has time to tease Nobue so much so she has enough time to drop another basin on her head. She could’ve been gone if she didn’t do that. Miu wakes up to find herself lying on the room’s floor. The other girls are relieved to know that she is alright as Chika hugs her. Miu starts calling the rest by their other names she met during her out-of-body experience and when she realizes her boobs has shrunk, she freaks out. Nobue starts calling for an ambulance. Perhaps to the mental institution? For Miu’s case, I’m not sure whether people will be happy if she had stayed dead or not. Tough choice, huh?

The next part has the lolis having their class free period at a park. The teacher is still picking on Sasazuka to stand up even though he is not in classroom! Still discriminating, eh? The quartet decides to sketch sceneries. However Miu forgot to bring her paints and decides to call Nobue. You know that annoyed look on her face when she knows the person calling is no other than Miu. Don’t blame her for ending the call. She reluctantly picks up when Miu calls again. Initially Nobue doesn’t care about Miu’s problems until Chika starts to panic that her white paint is missing. Nobue angrily goes to Chika’s room to find Miu’s paint box under her bed and Chika’s white paint there. Now she has to go deliver it. Upon arriving at the park, Nobue calls them to find their whereabouts and Miu says that they are near a samurai cosplayer (a statue actually). Really frust and die if you deal with this loli. Cheeky Miu tells her to defeat the samurai but this time Nobue turns around and walks away. Miu then jumps out to make her presence known. At this point, it is Nobue’s turn to blackmail her. She wants Miu to handover Matsuri and Ana in exchange for her paint box. Chika calls Miu and tells her that she has turned into a kidnapper. Miu starts panicking. Don’t worry, it’s just one of her fits.

As Nobue gets ready to leave on her bike, she gets a distressing call from Miu that something is about to befall on Matsuri and Ana. She frantically runs to the top only to find what Miu had meant is that they are doing their best and made it here. She should’ve known. Pissed off, Nobue spreads the entire white paint on Miu’s face, making her look like she’s put on some mascara. After Nobue has left, the gang contemplates on what to draw. At the bridge near a waterfall, the gang starts sketching and Miu sketches Matsuri and Ana in a comical manner like Matsuri being hit by a football and Ana falling into the pond. Ana isn’t amused and starts chasing Miu. Later Miu is sketching some flowers next to that old man who is still around. She requests him not to move. He thinks she is her sketching model but the real fact is that she’s just drawing the flowers. On the other hand, Miu is annoying Chika with a close up sketch of the latter. The final output is Chika taking off her skirt! Can’t blame her for chasing that troublemaker down, can’t she? At the end of the day, everyone gathers back at the spot (except for Sasazuka whom the teacher says he doesn’t have to return. Sheesh). The quartet takes a look at each others work and you should expect Miu’s one to be exceptional. Some clock tower control panel in the form of a refrigerator. Need I say more? Miu remembers that she forgot to eat her snacks. When Matsuri says she too can’t finish them, Miu suggests a trade. A sashimi package? Yeah, it is expired. She even has the cheek to say she doesn’t want to eat something spoilt while the others run away. Miu then SMS an annoying message to Nobue saying that today’s snack is sashimi.

Episode 2
Chika tells Miu to complete her homework or she won’t get any snacks when the latter says her back is itching and pesters Chika to scratch it. She gets annoyed when the place she scratched is reachable herself. Matsuri then clumsily spills her drink and Miu swiftly take some tissues to blow her nose instead. She then stuff 2 off them in her nose. Chika continues to help Ana with her maths problem when Miu and Nobue pester her to eat some snacks so she chides Nobue for not doing her own report/homework. She also tells Miu to take out the tissue papers from her nose already.

One day when Chika comes into Nobue’s room to tell her not to change some time on the game, we learn that Nobue is trying to quit smoking but Chika knows too well that she will be back to her bad habits in 3 days. This has them making a bet. Later as Chika talks to Miu about tomorrow’s PE class, Miu is copying every word and movement from her. Chika tries to do impossible moves as Miu keeps up and finally when Chika does an embarrassing facial expression, Miu quickly whips out her handphone and snaps a pic of it. I think she planned this out already. Remember Miu’s typical punishment of face down flat on the floor? That’s what Chika gave her upon realizing what has happened. On the other hand, Matsuri goes visit Ana but her pet ferret escapes when she reaches her gate as she chases it down. Thankfully, Matsuri informs Ana that she isn’t playing ding-dong ditch and she understands. It would be a totally different case if it’s Miu.

Later as Miu and Chika take a walk together, Miu wants to know the difference between buddies and friends. Miu barges back home and forgets her question when she spots a loose thread on Nobue’s shirt and says that is the reason she has no boyfriend. Chika then asks Nobue to move from her desk so that she could listen to her CD and when the latter ignores her, Chika gives her sister Miu’s punishment! Now she’s got it too! Looks like this punishment type isn’t reserved for Miu only. As Chika listens to her CD, Miu asks Nobue her buddy-friend question. She notices Nobue texting an SMS and wonders if that person is a friend or buddy.

When Matsuri and Ana come by for a visit, Miu suddenly snatches Matsuri and holds her at ransom. She wants Ana to take out her hair nostrils and put it on her eyelashes or else she will write "God" on Matsuri’s forehead. Nobue notices the commotion and grabs Ana as her hostage. She wants Miu to release Matsuri or else she will stick her 2 fingers up Ana’s nose! It’s getting weirder by the moment. Miu doesn’t mind so Nobue threatens to kiss Ana instead. Chika then notices the ruckus behind her and tells them to stop. It’s pretty hilarious to see Matsuri and Ana trying to hold out on sickos Miu and Nobue from trying to write on her forehead or doing a force kiss respectively. Then Miu said that this was a test to see how intimate Matsuri and Ana are. Matsuri and Ana thanked each other for trying to protect each other and this has Miu asking them if they are buddies. They confirm it but Miu wants proof. They tell her several examples like sending SMS. Miu wants to see what kind of SMS they send and it seems like comforting about tomorrow’s exam. Miu laughs while Nobue thinks it’s cute. Then Miu shows them her SMS friendship proof with Chika. Some weird unrelated words from Miu and Chika’s reply is to tell her go die. Yeah, it’s friendship alright. Seeing that the rest aren’t impressed, Miu SMS to Chika about tomorrow’s exam. Her reply: Disgusting. She shows the SMS to them and further questions their intimacy. Miu brags that she has kissed Chika and even groped each other’s boobs! Miu gets her typical punishment when she tells Chika that Nobue told them they are lesbians.

Nobue then asks where she stands in their eyes. Miu replies, a boss. Nobue starts sulking that she has no buddies so Matsuri and Ana tries to cheer her up by saying that they are her buddies to the point that they even say they like her. Probably another plot for Nobue to get intimate with them. Yeah, she’s all feeling better and hugging them. Miu is still upset so Nobue gives an example whereby Ana is to die from a disease and Matsuri needs to give a transplant. Naive and emotional Matsuri says she’ll give Ana a transplant so as not to let her die. She starts crying even if it’s just an example and Ana says she’ll do the same. Miu goes to pester Chika to give her an organ and the latter throws her away. Then Miu tells her the transplant need story and Chika says she’ll donate and organ if necessary. Miu rejoices but when she herself says she won’t give her organ, this pisses off Chika.

On another day, Miu comes in to Chika’s room through her window and isn’t pleased to see the usual boring routine from the rest. While the young ones are studying, Nobue is ogling over you know who. Miu then tries to mimic the rest in an annoying way and finally asks to guess who the one she is mimicking. Hmm… I am an idiot, I love cute girls… Chika then says it is Nobue. This resulted in both Miu and Chika to get that typical face-down punishment. So what is the point of this conversation? Miu says that they must be prepared for changes like Matsuri and Ana will soon have to go to junior high school. Nobue starts to panic and it is definitely confirmed that she’s a lolicon because she’s saying how the duo will forever be grade school students. Thus Miu has everyone dressed up in junior high school uniforms, which are Nobue’s old ones.

Miu goes on to imagine what kind of junior high life the girls will be leading by doing some forecasting through a coin. Don’t ask why. I’m not sure why she imagine Ana as some bad-ass delinquent carrying a toy hammer to school when she is confronted by a statue (that old man actually) and asked to pronounce ‘ginger ale’ properly. Upon her failure to do so, Ana says "God damn it" and runs away in tears while Miu notes herself as cute. As for Nobue, Miu imagines her to be her oversized pet dog in her second life. It ends with Miu narrating that the city is in peace. Guess what next? Miu with her usual punishment and everyone throwing their school uniforms on her. Had enough, eh? Yeah, the rest enjoy some snacks and let Miu be.

The next scene shows Nobue depressed after knowing she can’t afford to buy a player at a store even after all the saving she has done (either her pay must be very low or the player’s price is sky-high). Because of that, back home she starts smoking and Chika catches her in the act and wants her to fulfil their bet and promise made earlier. Nobue has no qualms in fulfilling the promise, surprising Chika a little. Soon excited Chika informs the other girls and off they go to the beach. No, they didn’t walk there. Luckily Nobue has a driving licence and borrowed her parent’s car. Hopefully they didn’t get lost the last time. At the beach, the lolis are enjoying themselves while Nobue watches them. After they give Nobue some funny shaped seashells, Nobue wonders if they ever get bored. The sudden gust of waves on the shore caught Nobue by surprise as she loses her footing and falls on her butt. The rest tease her for wetting her pants so Nobue chases them as they continue their fun.

Strawberry Loli Ensemble
Though this second wave of OVA does not offer anything new or much, at least it does satisfy hardcore fans of the series. If not lolicons like Nobue herself. Miu is still my favourite character all this time and time after time, she just refuses to learn or grow up. It’s like annoying other people is her ultimate destiny. But if you look it from another perspective, she does spices up the life of those around her. It would’ve been a real bore without her troublemaking ways. Then again, they could have lived better without her. There’s always 2 sides to a coin.

Also it was pretty hilarious to see Nobue frightened to know her beloved Matsuri and Ana will grow up one day. This definitely confirms it. She’s so in denial. Will she grow out of it when the time comes? Hehe. This series is mainly revolved around lolis so unless they show future visions of their grown up lives, this series will always be in loli fashion, if you know what I mean.

Having said so, this OVA also feels like an extension since the drawing, art and animation is consistent with the first batch of OVA and TV series. The seiyuus and background music are also retained for this short project and everything else too is inclined towards cute to give out the moe feel. Perhaps in the near future, there will be another OVA? Some people just can’t get enough of lolis. No, I’m not one of them, mind you.

Ichigo Mashimaro

Ichigo Mashimaro OVA

January 4, 2008

Happy New Year! Well, 2007 was another eventful year for animes with lots of anime shows coming out. Hopefully the year 2008 will usher even more interesting animes for me to watch (especially comedies and high school ones). So let me begin with my usual anime blog.

Yay! It’s been a long time since I’ve heard from those cute girls who do cute things the cute way. Sounds familiar? Yup, they’ve finally come out with an OVA, which is Ichigo Mashimaro OVA. Not that I have a lolita fetish, but because of the tv series, I’m compelled to continue watching this OVA to see what more cute adventures the quintet will have.

The other main reason why I wanted to watch this 3 episode OVA is because of Miu. Yes, she is that troublesome and mischevious little brat who likes to annoy those around her, which is the main reason why the series was so darn funny in the first place. I’m interested to know what sort of trouble she’ll be getting into. *Evil grin*. I’m such a sadist. It’s really hard to forgive her but at the same time you really have to love this girl.

Also let’s not forget Miu’s typical face down arms spread out punishment whenever she says or does something wrong. It still amuses me and never ceases to break me into laughter. Those who have been following this punishment would well say Miu definitely deserves it as she brought it upon herself. Interested to see what’s in store for our gals? Read on…

Episode 1
The episode starts off with Nobue waking up from her morning slumber. She’s such a cigarette addict that she reaches to her pack once she awakes. Kids, remember smoking is bad for your health. Later, Miu barges into Nobue’s room like as though it’s her house, to ask how Nobue’s been. I think Nobue would be better off without her. We see Nobue talking on her handphone about some job interview and before she ends her call, Miu mischeviously yells "FUNGAAAAAAAAH!!!" at her handphone. Of course Nobue gets pissed off but decides to pull her cheeks rather than give Miu her usual punishment. Miu in return says that she’s just trying to make a good impression. Note, Miu will never have a good impression. Soon Chika comes in to remind Nobue that she’ll be late. Erm… Is that a bullseye with the words ‘launch’ on Chika’s forehead? I have a good idea who drew that.

Later Ana and Matsuri meets Chika at her home to go to school together. Chika runs off first but as usual, Miu stirs up trouble by saying that the countdown begins. Ana and Matsuri thinks Chika is gonna explode or launch into space as they cover their heads in fear while Miu counts down from 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Nothing happens. Chika comes back and wonders why the rest are taking so long. Well, the writing is still on her forehead.

At school, I suppose Chika has realized Miu has played another prank on her as we see the same graffiti on Miu’s forehead this time whereas Chika has cleaned up hers. Yes, oil pens don’t come off easily. Later when the teacher asks Miu to solve a question on the board, Miu tells her to press her forehead, which she did. Miu then answered hesitatingly "Four… Pretty much four… Five?" before she yells back "What’s 1/3 of an hour supposed to mean anyway?!". This got Miu to stand outside the classroom as her punishment. Even so, that brat can still cause some annoyance when she SMS Chika that she wants to sneeze but is unable to do so. Hey, is that the black devil at the bottom of the handphone screen? Eventually Miu does sneeze which attracted the attention of the whole class.

As Nobue’s filling up her scooter at a gas station, Ana seems to be taking a nap right in the middle of class! Matsuri notices that Ana’s elbow is gonna push over her crayon case and puts it away before Ana drops it. The teacher then notices Ana sleeping but Matsuri tells him not wake her up. The teacher has a deep thought before he says something to that Sasazuka kid he usually picks on. But it seems the teacher continues his lesson rather than asking Sasazuka to stand outside the classroom. Remember that kid refused in the last episode of the tv series and the teacher himself went to stand outside? He doesn’t want to happen again, doesn’t he? And though Miu is back in her seat, Miu has the guts to take a nap while her teacher teaches. Tired of standing?

Meanwhile Nobue is at an interview at some convenience store as the interviewer is going over her resume. What’s this? Special skills: Soccer, straight right? What is that? Then this part… Your motivation: I want to study sociology… FUNGAAAAAAH!!!. The interviewer than says "Umm… I heard you said this on the phone too. Is this … your catchphrase?". Hahaha. Nobue is bloody pissed off when she say her resume with Miu’s writing on it. In her rage she quickly rides off in her scooter. Oh oh. Somebody’s gonna be in big trouble. Kids, remember don’t ride recklessly like her. She’s doing a wheelie! Yeah, that old man’s still there, on the overhead bridge.

Back in school, Matsuri and Ana are having a discussion over some meal thing but since Ana is too loud, she has attracted the attention of her fellow classmates. Remember Ana can’t speak Japanese in the eyes of her other classmates. But they all conclude that since Ana has been in Japan for awhile, it’s right that she could speak some Japanese. I guess Ana got it to her head as she gloats to the rest not to lump her with heteroclitical foreigners who’re good in Japanese because she’s a purebred Brit. Before Ana realizes her flawless (or flaw in this sense) speech, the rest of the class gives a sounding clap. So can her secret be considered safe?

At the same time, Miu and Chika are fighting over their meal when Miu receives an SMS without a title saying that the thing she forgot is out on the street (I notice her other inbox mail is something like ‘Give back my CD’, ‘Give back my book’ and ‘Don’t just take my hw’. What the?). Miu rushes out of the school gates and picks up Nobue’s resume lying on the ground. Then she heard "Fungaaaaaah!" from a distance and saw Nobue leaning on her scooter. Hehehe. It’s payback time. Yay! First appearance of Miu’s typical punishment! I was expecting this. With that, Nobue rides back (now adhering to the speed limit) and that old man is still on the overhead bridge.

Later the quartet are walking home from school with Matsuri telling Ana how she could freely speak Japanese in class from now on. Miu than starts to feign starvation (must be lah) and wants to go get some grub at the store and pesters Chika. Of course, Chika knows all of Miu’s tricks and won’t bow to her pressure like Miu threatening not to let Chika copy her homework (like real) or calling her a cheapskate. Miu then turns to Ana because she detects a ‘rich person’ and soon takes Ana’s wallet (no manners!) and searches through. Miu is shocked to find 3000 Yen and wants Ana to make her her servant, which of course Ana says she’ll do. In the shop, the gang are taking some stuffs and we see that old man behind the counter. He wants to press that mark on Miu’s forehead but since they left the money and rushed out, he didn’t get to do so. Too slow.

Back home, Nobue is going through some sketch comic as she lights up. Later, Nobue takes a break outside smoking and drinking a can of coffee. I’m not sure what she saw because Nobue got freaked out when she take a look at the can. As usual, Miu is causing some annoyance with her whatever quiz. You know that bus question if so much people got on and so much people get down, how many passengers are left. Since it’s Miu asking the question, there’s gotta be some trick in it. Uh huh. The answer’s something less than expected because 1 of the passengers was a failure as a human being. Miu herself is a failure as a human being. Then as Chika is studying, the trio are trying to find the meaning of Shangri-La. Afterwards, Chika joins in to find the meaning of her name and as usual Miu comes up with her own theory with Matsuri’s by saying it’s some grasshopper species and such. Remember Ana’s? Yeah, that hole cave thing that Miu gave her which pissed her off. Miu’s still at it. This time she’s reading the meaning of it as ‘A sunken place, an incomplete place, a fault, a point of loss’. Twice!

In the evening as Matsuri and Ana prepares to leave, Miu says goodbye to ‘sunken place’, pissing off Ana. But I suppose that girl has learned to be more patient and cope with Miu’s irritating character. Then Miu comes in to the bathroom while Nobue is soaking herself in the bathtub. I think the way Miu is looking at her is trying to send signals to press her bullseye mark. Nobue does and Miu scorns her for being a coward and not a man. Nobue’s a girl lah. That bullseye mark finally comes of Miu’s forehead but it’s kinda sore. Looks like Nobue used some force to get it off. As Nobue enjoys her beer can while soaking, Chika comes in and Nobue mentions something about happiness and utopia. Matsuri is seen with a box of Jasmine tea (earlier on Chika tells Matsuri that this the meaning of her name) but as usual, Matsuri is still that klutzy girl. While Ana is having dinner with her family, later that night Nobue comes downstairs to get some milk and Chika to get her pudding. Only thing is, the pudding in which Chika has put her name on it, has been crossed out and written ‘Pudding’ instead. Chika could only sigh.

Episode 2
Chika and Nobue are arguing about the latter wanting to have some pudding but Chika is thinking about saving it as a treat after lunch. Cheapskate. That’s what Nobue tells her little sis as she walks away fuming. Back in Chika’s room, her other pals are there and they proceed to talk about pudding like how to make it and such. Miu suddenly announces to play hide and seek and asks for everyone to hide. Chika is very suspicious. We see Chika hiding under a table near the fridge as she’s saying to herself that she has faith in Miu and this is just a precautionary measure. Miu then comes down and opens the fridge as she takes the pudding. Chika’s fear comes true. Looks like Miu’s intention is to eat the pudding while everyone’s hiding. Chika confronts Miu and ticks her off. Miu then laughs like an idiot (I purposely say that) as she tells Chika that she has underestimated her because Miu takes another pudding out from the fridge and says she bought an identical looking one. Well then, Miu should just took out hers, right? I think she purposely did this to piss Chika off.

Nobue is outside washing her scooter when Miu says something about her lighting up. Nobue says gotcha and that she hasn’t lighted up yet when Miu turns the hose bigger, causing Nobue to get wet. Back in her room, Nobue is surprised to see Matsuri in her cat ears cosplay outfit again. That girl still has that fetish for Matsuri and Ana. And it’ll be even better if Matsuri is in some cute outfit. While Nobue is swooning over it and even asking Matsuri to say ‘Nya~", Miu feels left out and jealous. Miu opens the window and leaves through it. Shortly, she returns wearing a rabbit ears cosplay outfit. Nobue wonders if those rabbit ears would look good on Ana and asks her to try them on. She does. Nobue digs them but Miu again feels jealous and tries to take it back and says "If a rabbit is alone, it will die". Miu gets her usual punishment. Soon Miu toss away her rabbit ears and leaves through the window again. As Nobue puts back those rabbit ears on Ana, Miu comes back in a full tiger suit as she hits Matsuri and Ana. Roar! "The strong shall win in the end!", that’s what Miu proclaimed. Unfortunately, she got her usual punishment outside the rooftop.

Miu comes back in a dracula suit and decides to suck Matsuri’s blood. I don’t know but Chika is just putting her mouth on Matsuri’s neck but the latter is acting as though she’s really being bitten. As Ana quoted, there’s something wrong with this person’s head. Miu turns to Nobue but later decides not to because Nobue’s blood if of an old woman’s. Nobue scoffs at her and says that she’s just in junior college. Chika is annoyed by the ruckus and draws a cross before showing it to Miu. However, Miu just laughs it off. Chika rushes down to get some garlic but by the time she returns, Miu has already discarded her dracula costume and is playing some video game. Short attention span? Later Nobue is seen drying a pair of sneakers and is saying something about washing certain stuffs in a washing machine and how she found bread crumbs in all of Chika’s favourite clothes. Of course Chika said that it was Miu who put the bread in her pocket in the first place.

Matsuri is seen squirming in pain because she smashed her little toe on the table. Miu decides to alleviate her pain by slapping her back…?! Yeah, she’s saying focus the pain to somewhere else. Then she did some CPR thingy but of course it didn’t work. I think it’s best if she just go away, just like Chika suggests. After the pain is gone, Matsuri shows the gang about some maths book for 7th grade which she accidentally bought. Miu snatches it and shows it to Nobue, who tells Miu that she’s in junior college. Miu then teases her that her ability would be on that level. Usual punishment. However, Nobue mentions that she didn’t even do anything yet. Uh huh. It seems Miu actually anticipated that and does that in advance! Does Miu really enjoy that position? Anyway, as soon as Miu gets up, we see her lying in her usual punishment position. This time is for real. Haha. While Nobue browses over the book, Matsuri takes out another children storybook. Soon, Nobue is really enjoying it when Matsuri reads the book to her. Miu wonders if Matsuri will be able to make it through life and asks Ana about on how is Matsuri today. Ana replies the usual. Being the klutzy girl she is from tripping down the stairs, falling asleep in the infirmary, hitting her head on her own table after picking up a pencil, to falling down after taking her shoes, and getting stuck while changing clothes. All in a day’s work. I suppose Ana is like her guardian, looking after her clumsiness.

With that, Miu decides to rehabilitate Miu by holding her black hair (brown actually) while they still can. I don’t think it’ll work. Soon Miu asks Nobue to help them but Nobue’s busy admiring Matsuri’s happy face and how comforting it is. Miu does some weird comforting pose by throwing her head back and upside down with her hands halfway in the air. Yeah, there’s not comforting at all. Plus, Nobue mentions she can’t become a bride now. I think every guy who sees Miu will think twice. However, Chika is trying to hold back her laughter when Miu does that pose again making Chika laugh.

They decided to go return the book by taking a ride there. The whold gang stared at Matsuri with her lovely pink bicycle. Too moe, huh? They managed to exchange the book for another one. As the girls chat, we see that old man sitting alone on some bench. The girls then head home. Back home, Miu fires a rubber band at Matsuri while she’s reading a book. Nobue is mad and tells Matsuri to fire back at her. Since Matsuri is that weak girl, she’s hesitating to shoot back. Miu even mocks her for not having the courage to hurt somebody when Matsuri manages to fire it, sending Miu flying back and her face hitting the wall. At the same time, making Ana spill her drink on her dress. Is her shot that powerful? I wonder if Matsuri let loose the rubber band was because she was too weak to keep it in place. Is it real that Miu has hurt her nose? Matsuri is apologetic but Nobue being the sadist she is tells Miu to keep on going. Even Ana stood up and tells Matsuri that this is payback time after all those years of torment. Miu isn’t done with it yet as she rushes over to Matsuri to give her a flying kick but Matsuri using her instincts blocks it with her knee. Ouch!

Chika returns with a towel to dry Ana’s dress but to find Matsuri being chased by Miu with her donno what weird moves. Chika tells Miu to jump into her arms as she spread her arms open. Miu thinks that she’s been in love with her all along and rushes to her, only to crash somewhere else. Later Miu is saying something about hp (hitpoints) and that Matsuri’s act took away 127 hps from Miu. Then something about the need to increase Matsuri’s hp of 2 only, like going to a garden and eating a seed that fell from a tree. She’s been playing to many games. Miu then suggests push-ups. Um… Matsuri’s really having a hard time too. Then Miu notices Matsuri’s voice is too soft and weak and tells her to shout "ORAAAAAAA!!!". Matsuri still sounds weak… but cute. Whereas Miu sounds more brutal. What do you expect? Then Miu said some gibberish "Ojape! Kyojabanyubyoradapike!". I’m not making this up. This is what she actually said. And I had to pause a few times to catch and even write down that non-existant word. Though they tell Matsturi not to continue, Matsuri gets teary because she thinks what would happen if everyone went away. After a short chat, Miu concludes that they need to find and look for her that’ll overwhelm her surroundings.

Erm… I wonder why they put some oversized horse head mask on Matsuri and the rest standing in a row? Miu says that they need to hear a few words from their leader. Usual punishment for Miu. Finally a shy Matsuri manages to say "Yo!" which surprises everyone else. Miu gets up and gives Matsuri a thumbs up and says "All okay!". What’s all okay? Well, at least I know that her brain is something which isn’t okay.

Episode 3
Nobue is seen lazing around at some lake while she closes her eyes and enjoy the moment… with a cigarette in her mouth of course. Back home, Nobue and Chika are talking about the upcming long holidays and being trapped in their home during it. Later Ana and Matsuri comes over to their place and Ana tells them that this coming holidays, she and her family are staying home. Then something about Ana thinking to herself about how she scorn her British cousins when she visited Britain last time because she couldn’t understand a thing they said and it tire her out so much so she would like to get her revenge by leaving them alone if they ever come here.

Meanwhile Matsuri says she’s going to her grandparent’s place and that’s why she has to store her physical strength now. What physical strength is that? Anyway after hearing all that, we can’t blame Chika for sulking and wanting to go somewhere for the holidays. Nobue said some remarks which causes Chika to throw a pillow at her face. Miu is watching from outside the window. Miu decides to cheer Chika up with some words and asks if she wants some cake that she took out from her fridge. But Miu purposely scoops a piece of the cake and shoves it on Chika’s forehead. Chika’s instant reaction? A slap right across Miu’s face.

Miu is then seen searching for something in Nobue’s room with the latter watching irritatingly. After Miu finds whatever she wants to, she gets her usual punishment. It seems it’s a coupon to stay at some inn, which Nobue won as a lottery prize during New Year’s day. Chika is all excited and wants to go but Nobue refuses, causing Chika to throw a tantrum once more. Ana and Matsuri says how there aren’t things planned for Chika always. Nobue quips that she’s being pitied on. I suppose Nobue is being sympathetic because she says it will be boring if only she and Chika went along (hint hint). Miu instantly gets up and says she’ll join them but Nobue rejects her. With that, Miu joins Chika throwing a tantrum on her bed. Ana tries to make it sound like they want to tag along too (she even gives Matsuri that elbow cue). With that, Nobue decides to go. Yay! Everyone is happy. They’re thinking how the place, Izu, is like when Miu starts her usual exaggerated ranting, which lands her in her usual punishment position.

The scene changes to some old movie being played on tv when it is being interrupted by a news saying that the movie will be cancelled. This causes that old man who is watching it to drop the remote control as he is in shock. Even though there isn’t much emotion displayed, but at least his expression changed a little. That night, Nobue hears that the weather tomorrow will be fine for going out and heads back to sleep. Must be those wish dolls. Four of them. Looks like the young quartet. As expected, Miu’s one look ferocious.

The next morning, the gang prepares to leave. I didn’t know Nobue has a car driving licence. First time seeing her driving. While Nobue reverses her MPV with Chika, Ana and Matsuri inside, Miu directs Nobue. Nobue then asks the girls that did they bring everything along. Everyone answered yes. With that, Nobue drives off. Yeah, they left Miu standing there. Miu chases after them and says that they forgot something. Haha. If it was just a prank, it was a good one, especially on Miu. As Nobue drives along the highway near the seaside, Chika is tired of hearing the some travelling CD songs. Nobue suggests to play some song when Matsuri requests for some children song.

Eight hours later, the gang stops to take a break. We see Miu coming out from the boot. Wow. Can she stay in there for so long? Won’t she have DVT (deep vein thrombosis)? More importantly, how did Miu get in there if Nobue herself asks how she got there. Miu must’ve snuck in somehow. Remember, Miu isn’t just an ordinary girl. It looks like Nobue did get lost after all since she herself admitted that this trip should only take 2 hours. Kids these days rely to much on technology because Nobue is blaming that this car has no GPRS. Bad sense of direction if you ask me.

Anyway they managed to get to the inn and check in. Hey, something here seems real familiar. Yeah, even Chika notices it. Why is the mood and atmosphere the same like as though it’s back at their place? Uh huh. That’s what Nobue tried to tell Chika all along. No difference wherever they are. Something on the tv programme caught the eye of Nobue of Miu… The Over-mature Young Wife. Ooooh. Let’s have a look shall we? Dang. A display message saying that this programme has a fee if one wants to watch it. Chika then asks Ana and Matsuri to go have a look at the hot bath. Matsuri still has problems trying to keep her balance while taking off her socks. However this bath is different from the ones they’ve always been. Why, there is a huge window which makes outside viewable. Chika says she can’t go in or else she will be exposed. Though Chika eventually takes a dip, she still doesn’t feel comfortable. Even Ana and Matsuri agrees. But Nobue tells them not to worry because she’ll be watching over her. Such ambiguous meaning. Yeah, Nobue really does hidden intentions. Soon she tells Ana and Matsuri to embrace themselves and take off their towels! Luckily those 2 didn’t get what she mean.

Miu reads a sign on the bath which says how this will improve one’s sterilization. She then says Miu is gonna be a mother tomorrow. Of course Nobue says that it would be disastrous if it were to happen. With that, Matsuri asks how does one get pregnant. Well, Nobue seems tongue tied. She gives that stork answer but Chika teases her because she’s blushing. With that, they splash water at each other. Hehe, Miu farted in the bath again. Yeah, she did that back in the tv series.

After bath, Miu feels hungry and wonders what is for dinner. Nobue says that since there’s a kitchen, they’re cooking themselves. However, Nobue forgot to buy the ingredients. So how are they gonna manage? Diet, Nobue says? Didn’t think so. Nobue has no choice but to go buy some. Yeah, some Initial D parody here as Nobue rushes to the convenient store just in time before it closes. Kids, don’t drive like her. Back at the inn, we see them making a nabe for dinner. After dinner, we see Nobue and Miu getting up, satisfied with their meal, walks away and says how the food was okay and that every human has 1 merit at least. Chika doesn’t seem pleased and says what about cleaning up. Miu talks back by saying that since Chika is good at cooking, she should be good at cleaning up as well. Eventually Miu and Nobue ends up doing the dishes.

As Matsuri and Ana practice their English, Miu comes in and suggest to tell some scary ghost story with the lights off. Miu starts off by saying "I was sleeping at my house. I woke up, there was…" before passing the torchlight to Ana. Ana then says "Meibundo’s… old man… haiku… He’s standing there reading haiku". Since it wasn’t that scary and no climax, Miu passes the torchlight to Chika. Chika responds something about the haiku being hypermetric that it wound up being a sutra chant. I don’t know, but they find it quite scary. Even Chika herself is having goosebumps. Next is Nobue but she just said he was surprised and woke up. Miu feels that Nobue is scamping and to round it all up, Miu asks Matsuri to make it real scary. This one is really scary and unexpected. That’s because Matsuri concluded that when he woke up… he wet his bed! WARGH! Yeah, it’s real scary alright. Just kidding. Didn’t work. Miu switches on the lights and they ask her what happened in the end. Miu’s reply is that she doesn’t know because they’re so boring. This lands Miu her usual punishment outside the inn.

It’s bedtime and Miu starts things by throwing pillows at Ana. Furthermore, she’s instructing who should sleep where. I wonder why everyone wants to sleep with Nobue. Chika suggests through rock, scissors and paper but Miu says that Nobue is all hers. They have to decide fast or else they won’t get to sleep. With that, Ana and Chika teams up and throws their pillow at Miu’s face. Later that night when everyone is sleeping, Nobue notices that Matsuri is still awake and talks to her. Nobue promises to stay awake till Matsuri falls asleep. Matsuri then asks what if a burglar comes in. Nobue replies that she’ll knock him out cold. Matsuri also wants Nobue to hold her hand till she falls asleep. It seems Miu is listening to it all.

In the dead of the night, Miu suddenly screams "A night attack!". Nobue instantly gets up and wants to know where that person is so that she could feed it to their dog. Miu then on the lights and says who is the one going to be fed to their dog. We see Nobue holding Matsuri in her arms. Chika is in shock and wonders if Nobue has already made an advance on Matsuri. Though Ana says that it isn’t Nobue’s intention, Miu interrupts and tells Nobue not to say she’s cute again. Nobue tries to say that this is just a misunderstanding but Miu jumps to conclusions by saying that if she doesn’t let go of Matsuri she’s gonna… she jumps on top of Chika… Holy cow! Miu kissed Chika! That pervert! Oh the horror! Chika’s first kiss stolen by an annoying brat. Miu is gonna target Ana as well but Nobue trips her to make Miu land in her usual punishment position and tells her not to get carried away.

Since everyone’s up, might as well go for a night walk. Though Chika tries to apologize about the misunderstanding, Miu once again cuts in and says what misunderstanding. Another usual punishment down the grassy slope. As they sit down and enjoy the cooling night breeze, Ana mentions about a transparent wind. She goes on saying sometimes when the wind blows, the usual scenery seems to change into a different colour. Chika mentions that even though it’s the same place, she feels that the colour today is different from usual. Ana then says because the wind has no colour, that’s why one feels different depending on your mood. As everyone smiles, Nobue adds "There may be lots of happy moments hiding in the scenery that we take as natural. Even though we usually don’t notice them, I’m sure when the wind blows, we will notice". Chika soon laughs and says that line was so cheesy. Uh huh. It seems Nobue said saomething which doesn’t fit her. Nobue mentions she said nothing and gets up to head back to sleep. The next morning as Nobue drives back, the rest are sleeping in the car but the way they show things seems to indicate that Nobue got lost again. It’s gonna be a long drive home.

Berry Cute Till The Berry End
Overall, I guess the misadventures of the quintet still pretty much meet my expectations. There isn’t any major changes nor differences from the OVA and the tv series so much so you could say that this OVA is somewhat like an extension to satisfy hardcore fans of the series. Even the characters themselves don’t pretty change much as you can tell their quirky personalities right from the start. If you’ve been watching the tv series that is. Maybe somethings are better off the way they are. Matsuri is still klutzy and innocent while Miu is still annoying as ever. Yeah, that old man is still around.

The opening and ending theme still doesn’t appeal to me and even follows the same format as the tv series in the sense that the opening theme, Akkan Berry Berry, is sung by the voice actresses of the 4 young ladies, whereas the ending theme, Yuumachi No Kaze, is sung by the voice actress of Miu. Uh huh. A case of deja vu? Well, just like the tv series too, the opening theme is as upbeat and cute while the ending theme is also a slower ballad. Yeah, they still sound kiddie and girly as ever.

Though not much (what do you expect? There are only 3 episodes), there are some little ecchi scenes as well, that is, when the girls are taking a bath. It won’t amount so much to hentai. You’ll just get to see their naked backs. Perhaps the lesson to learn here is to take life as it is. Everyday is a beautiful day if you could just stop for 1 moment and take a closer look of your surroundings. Okay, maybe it won’t happen in today’s time. But I suppose it’s important for us to have a happy and fun-filled childhood. But then again, kids like Miu are an exception. Good thing the girls also learn how to tolerate and live with a weirdo like her. Something we all need to also, right? FUNGAAAAAAAH!!!

Ichigo Mashimaro

July 14, 2007

This reminds me of a younger version of Azumanga Daioh. How so? Because there are cute little girls, cute little girls and cute little girls. No, I don’t have a fetish for little girls nor do I have a lolita complex. But that’s what I think when I watched Ichigo Mashimaro or literally Strawberry Marshmallow in English.

So if you go "Eeeeeyeeerr… So cute… So adorable.. So kawaii…" whenever you see such little kids, then I think you’d probably want to have a look at this anime as well since cuteness is the main theme. Cute girls doing cute things in a cute way. Therefore, cuteness is definitely guaranteed. Have I mentioned cuteness too many times? Now isn’t that cute?

This series has only 12 episodes so there are enough cuteness to go by. Luckily it doesn’t span 100 of episodes so much so that the cuteness appeal would’ve been lost over time. And probably by that time too, those little girls would’ve grown up and become pretty and sexy teenage ladies. Just kidding. Though this series is of a comedy genre, you won’t really be laughing every single second of it (okay, most of the time). A little bit of character bonding, drama and slice of life as well.

Of course the first episode starts off by introducing our main protagonists of the show. We see Nobue Itou, a 20 year old college student who rides a scooter and is a habitual smoker. She’s like the big sister among the other main characters in the series. She’s a little annoyed that she ran out of cigarettes and proceeds to go to her little 12 year old sister’s room, Chika, to borrow some money. Since Chika’s got a headphone on, she can’t hear a thing as Nobue decides to play a little prank on her but ends up slipping herself. Would you give more credit to somebody who is a bad pay master? Well, yeah. Chika isn’t going to lend her.

Then suddenly come ‘flying’ into Chika’s room from her window is their next door neighbour Miu Matsuoka. Unfortunately, she tripped and she fall face flat on the floor. Yes! This Miu girl is my favourite character and the main reason why I watched this series in the first place. Also because of her, I feel that the entire series is funny because of her or else it woul be just plain and dull. How interesting is Miu? In one word, she’s a brat. Okay, maybe that’s not enough to describe her. In addition, she’s a troublemaker, mischevious, naughty, irritating, instigator, suka cari pasal and all those equivalent words you could think of. And everytime she does or say something bad enough, she’ll get her typical punishment. That is, you’ll see her lying face flat down on the ground with her arms spread out. Though we won’t get to see the process of how she ended up like that, but seeing the end result is funny enough to make you laugh because the scene changes quickly to this ‘punishment’ with a short moment of silence. Hahaha. I love this part when it happens to Miu. This will happen at least once in every episode. Trademark. Sorry if I sound like a sadist. But I think Miu is one too and she deserves it in a way. Sometimes you might feel like you want to strangle and punch her in the first but because she’s just a 12 year old and look cute in doing it (even if it’s totally wrong), you may think otherwise.

After some whatever blabbings from Miu, another friend of theirs comes ringing their door bell. It’s the 11 year old besepctacled Matsuri Sakuragi. She is the most naive and gullible girl I have ever known. Because of that, she is often made the teasing subject for Miu. Poor girl. I wonder if she really understands what’s going on. Yeah, a crybaby too. But luckily, she’s got ‘big sis’ Nobue to comfort and ‘protect’ her from the ‘evil’ Miu. So which means, the usually cheerful Chika is the only ‘normal’ one I find among the gang. Anyway, she came crying because of somebody eating her pudding…?! But as usual Nobue comforts her but Miu too wants some pudding and shows her teary eye innocent face to Nobue. Yeah, she ends up outside the roof with her typical punishment face down.

So as Nobue eventually left to get some cigarettes, more antics and disturbings from Miu on Chika and Matsuri like Miu trying to wrestle Matsuri wearing some face mask and sunglasses…?! I wonder how they could all really tolerate her. But the main thing about this episode is that Nobue’s birthday is coming soon and the trio are pondering what to give to her as a birthday present. Since they notice Nobue likes to smoke, they’re thinking of making a paper ashtray. Since they want it to be a surprise, they’re trying their best not to let Nobue find out what they’re doing. Of course Miu is up to her no good again like after pestering Chika to cook because she can’t work on an empty stomach, she goes to sleep. Haih… Not only that, when they’re halfway making the present, because they’re little kids, they start to doze off and Miu whacks them awake with a paper fan and tells them not to sleep on the job. She’s the one to tell because Miu herself too fell asleep and gets a taste of her own medicine from Chika.

By the end of the day, Nobue comes home and after a shower, she enters Chika room to see the trio sleeping soundly. Well the place is kinda messy and looks like they managed to finish it and even wrote some colourful notes as birthday card messages. Nobue reads them and feels quite touched, that is, until she reads Chika’s one which says something about her body size (big, growing, fat, I suppose). Would any girl that age feel insulted? Yeah, Nobue takes a marker pen and wrote something on Chika’s left cheek. The next day as the 3 little girls head for school we see the words written on Chika’s cheek which goes something like "Currently running away from home". I guess Nobue’s pretty satisfied she got her revenge and her birthday present. Though, I’m not really sure the meaning or implication of that line.

Episode 2 introduces another 11 year old to the gang. She’s Ana Coppola from Cornwall, England. I was surprised that Ana’s voice actress is no other than the talented Mamiko Noto. It did remind me of her when I first heard her voice. But there’s something strange about Ana. No doubt she’s from England, she can’t actually speak proper English and she is very fluent in Japanese! Reminds me of my case, a banana ;p. Because of that, the newly transferred Ana is telling herself that she must’nt let other people know that she can speak Japanese. However, while doing this on her way to school, she’s already busted because Miu and Chika by coincidence cross paths.

And in school, she got into the same class with Matsuri and at first Matsuri is quite afraid of her as Ana takes her seat next to hers. But overtime, these 2 will become friends as Matsuri finds out about her secret and knows that Ana is a nice and polite girl and decides to help keep her secret. So in class, Ana just sit there keeping quiet, trying not to have any conversation with her classmates as it may leak her embarrassing secret. So the reason they conclude about her non-talkativeness is that she’s a foreigner who doesn’t seem to be fluent with Japanese yet. But at times, Ana’s secret comes close to being exposed as Ana herself isn’t cautious like how she first writes her name on the blackboard using hiragana letters and how she says the traditional "Itadakimasu" line before her meal and even had brought chopsticks for her bento. So Ana tries to cover up by clumsily using the chopsticks in an awkward way. Perhaps they’re all little kids that they can’t tell Ana’s acting or maybe really blur. By the way, there’s a kid in their class, Sasazuka, who’s always being picked on by their homeroom teacher. Whether it is his fault or not (usually the latter), the homeroom teacher will ask him to go stand outside. Poor kid. And he has no choice but to do it.

Besides Miu even causing trouble in her own class (like drawing some funny stuffs when the teacher asks her to do some maths problem on the blackboard), Matsuri brings Ana back to Nobue’s place after school and to Ana’s horror, she saw Chika and Miu there. But I think Nobue instantly takes a liking for Ana as she hugs her. Yeah, Nobue really has a thing for little cute girls especially Ana and Matsuri. Maybe she’s immune to her little sis Chika and that’s why Chika don’t get that same treatment. As for Miu, we all know why lah. But the story ends when troublemaker Miu writes Ana’s surname in kanji, which irritates Ana a lot. Yeah, Coppola means like hole, bone and cave in that writing. Another punishment for Miu outside the roof. She really deserves it as Miu’s been pissing off Ana ever since she got here.

It’s ironic to see Matsuri trying to teach Ana some English in episode 3. Because they were’nt successful, Ana invites Matsuri over to her house to study together. Back in Chika’s room, I’m not sure why but Miu’s being tied up with some rope. Whatever it is, I’m sure she deserves it. Matsuri tries to go out and to Ana’s place without letting the others know but you know the harrassing Miu. Nobue must be really doing this to satisfy her cute craving for Matsuri because she suggests her to wear some cat hat complete with a cat’s tail. Gullible Matsuri does and even adds a ‘~nya’ at the end of her sentences. Though Matsuri is on her way and slightly lost, she bumps into the quartet and tries to bluff her way out. Yeah, who would believe that there’s an alien behind them. And only Matsuri could fall for her own trick.

Anyhow, the gang decides to tag along as well. Once there, we see Ana’s real big mansion. Uh-huh. Rich kid. Ana arrives at the gate to greet Matsuri but to her horror sees the rest of the gang there. Except for Miu. She ran off after ringing the bell. Because of that, the rest got in and Miu got left out. As we tour the house and see the grandeur of it, everyone’s quite impressed as at the same time Miu tries to get into the house through climbing one of the walls. Once she manages to do so, she got chased by Ana’s pet dog. Don’t worry it’s a friendly chase but of course Miu’s exaggerating it. Once settled, Ana shows them her CD collections, have some tea, staring at a huge map of England, and of course life wouldn’t be complete without Miu pissing Ana off further and making the latter cry. Luckily Ana found her comfort in Nobue. Later, they discover Ana’s dressing room collection and are amazed at her numerous dresses hanging there. Naughty Miu tries on a little girl’s bra and doesn’t seem satisfy with it and even puts her hands on Ana’s just to try for size! With that, Ana drops her English book as Nobue picks it up. Secret busted. Luckily Nobue thinks Ana is teaching a friend in English when she asks her how much this dress costs. A slip of Ana’s tongue causes Ana to answer in Japanese. Secret really busted.

Nobue’s smoking habit is starting to kick in in episode 4. Just like a poor church mouse, she once again heads to Chika room and tries to take some money from her mailbox-like piggy bank savings. Of course there wasn’t any money. As usual, Miu tries to wish real hard for it before tossing it out of the window. That’s not even her stuff. Later something about a tissue led to Nobue having an idea of them playing a doctor-patient thingy with Miu as the doc while Ana and Matsuri as her assistants. I think Nobue wants to see how cute her Ana and Matsuri darling are in a nurse outfit. Good thing is Miu has no chance of becoming a future doctor because she flips up Ana’s skirt and says some unpleasant comments after examining Chika. Yup, that usual punishment again. So Nobue takes over the doctor role and examines Matsuri who’s playing the patient in labour now.

But the main thing about this episode is Nobue finding a part time job so that she could have some money to buy cigarettes. She ends up applying as a waitress in a cafe. Though the pay is reasonable but the skirt is a bit too short and there is a no smoking policy on the job. Looks like Nobue has to just deal with it for the time being. While working there, Ana and her mom are having their meal there when Ana spots Nobue. Later, Ana tells Chika and Matsuri about it. The trio tries not to let Miu know but too late, she’s already heard it all. Now Miu plans to patron the place. Nobue’s pretty annoyed to see the 4 there. And she’s their waitress. Miu’s first annoyance is when she lifts up Nobue’s skirt only to make Nobue stick the ice cold glass of water in her cheeks. So a war of words erupted, which is bad because it affects the cafe’s reputation. No choice, Nobue has to suck it in for now. The customer is always right.

To make things worse, all 4 of them came back day after day. This is really pissing Nobue off as she has no choice but to tolerate and serve them. Sabarlah… The other 3 girls blame it on Miu and somehow got drag into all this but can’t back out now. Miu is ordering expensive and fancy desserts and says it will be on Nobue’s treat. Though the rest of the girls have a guilty conscious, but I guess there’s so much Nobue can only take. So Nobue puts some Tobasco sause in Miu’s dessert. Since Miu isn’t the kind to learn her lesson, soon she starts tripping Nobue, making her drop plates and glasses. Nobue retaliates by doing the same. A confrontation looms as Nobue starts and the 2 started a food fight throwing everything possible at each other. It’s a real havoc! Some old man got victimized there as the food got all over him but he just sat there without any reaction while the food fight goes on. In the end, Nobue gets fired and her pay is used for the cleanup and damage costs as she only manages to buy 1 pack of cigarettes. Back home, Nobue’s not gonna let Miu go scot free as she shows the bill of 275 Yen and writes ‘nengumai’ (annual rice tax) on Miu’s forehead. I don’t think that mark will come off so soon as we see Miu trying to wash it off.

Miu and Ana’s spat continues in episode 5. Well, you know whose fault it is, right? Uh-huh. They’re trying to outdo each other by seeing who’s taller standing on stacks of magazine. Unfortunately they both fell down when the stack became unstable. Then in Ana’s class, she herself is quite popular as she receives several love letters. One of them even in English! Yup, "I fall in love with you! I love you! I need you!". So young so expressive so creative. Of course Ana’s still trying to keep her Japanese speaking a secret. So far so good. That is, until Miu who’s playing baseball outside swings her bat too hard and the ball breaks the window and flew into Ana and Matsuri’s class. Miu just barges in to retrieve it. That’s when the horror starts (for Ana) when they saw each other. Yup, Miu called her Coppola.

Back home, Ana’s gonna ‘kill’ Miu with a recorder (?!) but is restrained by Nobue. But Miu gets her usual punishment. It seems Nobue seems to favour Ana and Matsuri more by paying attention to those 2 rather than Chika or Miu, much to the latter’s dismay. I mean when the gang are shopping at the supermart, Ana gets whatever she wants but as for Miu, all her stuffs got rejected. So an attention-crazed Miu does her way of getting attention, causing trouble, that is. What else. She does some during nabe dinner time and eventually gets her usual punishment. Later, Nobue, Miu and Ana are taking a bath together. Miu and Nobue are staring at Ana and are admiring her beautiful complexion (and her small chest…?!). Of course Ana felt a little embarrassed even if it’s girls who are looking. Because of Nobue’s bragging on how cute and adorable Ana is, this causes Miu to blow her top and in her jealousy she cries (no crocodile tears this time). Nobue felt pity and allowed her to sleep with them for the night. With that, Miu felt a little more secure. No matter how bratty she is, Miu’s still a little kid. But the next morning when Nobue wakes up, she finds Miu’s stomach bigger. Yup, that naughty kid’s back to normal and plays a prank that Nobue may have impregnate her. Some things never change. Don’t worry, it’s just a pillow under that.

It’s a darn hot summer in episode 6 as the 4 little girls trek back from school in the sweltering heat. You may think it’s the heat that it’s getting to Miu’s head as she’s up to another mischieve again but she’s always been like that all year round. Miu suggests a rock, scissors and paper game to see who would carry their school bags. Though Matsuri lost, Miu ends up carrying all the bags because of the latter’s comments about exercising some power to control over the losers. Later as Nobue, Chika and Miu are in Nobue’s air-conditioned room relaxing, Miu suddenly opens the window letting all the hot air in. You know what happens after that lah. Miu and Chika have another round of weird rock, scissors and papers in which Miu lost again. This made Miu to use Nobue’s handphone to call the soba shop and order something and soon the police. Of course Nobue isn’t amused and stops her since it’s her handphone.

Meanwhile Matsuri is at the vending machine and her trouble starts when the can she bought starts rolling down hill. Maybe she’s always around Miu so much so trouble follows her. At the same time, Ana is trying to pronounce ‘ginger ale’ on a can in another vending maching at a store when an old man (yes, that victimized one from Miu and Nobue’s food fight several episodes ago) tells her how to pronounce it. Same expression too. Ana recognizes him and quickly leaves to find Matsuri. Later when they regrouped at Nobue’s room, Nobue heads out to get some food and Miu ‘borrows’ Nobue’s handphone to record some lines like "I’m hot!". Miu got the others to do so too but wants Ana to say hers in English. When Nobue comes back, she finds the girls sleeping and Miu napping on her bed. Miu wakes up and wants to go to the toilet but since it’s too hot she decides to hold it in. Eventually she can’t hold much longer and went. When Miu comes back, she saw Chika sleeping in her place and soon gets annoyed and starts waking her up. Before you know the 2 started arguing which causes Matsuri to sleep in the comfy bed. Uh-huh, they drag Matsuri into it too so much so Miu threw a pillow but it hit Nobue in the face.

Once it’s over, Nobue decides to sleep on the bed herself. Not wanting to be noisy and wake her up, Miu suggests writing on paper to communicate. It’s funny to see when Matsuri writes if she could go to the toilet, Miu replies by drawing a black devil. Hahaha. Chika then felt the need to sneeze but Miu quickly tries to prevent her and pounds on her. Luckily Nobue’s still asleep. Then as they ‘converse’, Miu again draws 2 black devils this time, followed by a sketch of some guy (hmm… quite good sketch there). This made Chika wanting to laugh as she’s trying hard to hold it in. But when Chika hits Miu’s head with a paper fan, Miu then draw 3 black devils. Hahaha. Nobue wakes up in the evening and they all have some popsicles on the rooftop. Looks like Nobue caught a little cold herself. The next day as the little girls walk home from school, Miu comes up with an idea to see who carries everyone school bags. She suggests whoever steps in the sunlight has to do so. Everybody does by walking under the shades and when finally Miu spots a long stretch of no shades, she decides to make a big jump, but falls short. Yup, Miu becomes the mule again. With that Miu decides to call Nobue but when Nobue’s handphone rings, her ringtone is set at the loudest "I’m hot!" and surprises everyone there including Nobue herself, who’s quite embarrassed about it. Now Nobue’s really pissed off. Punishment time…

Continuing with the hot summer vacation in episode 7, Ana and Matsuri have followed their respective families for a vacation. So this leaves Nobue, Chika and Miu. Miu has a project of her own. That is, she’s planning to observe Chika and Nobue with her camcorder. Yeah, this kid could really get creative (irritating is perhaps the right word) with the camcorder. By this time, Matsuri has already come back from her trip and shows them her photos of her in the countryside with some goats. Miu continues her observation by taking away Nobue’s cigarettes and giving them to Matsuri. Though Miu told Matsuri not to give the cigarettes back to Nobue, naive Matsuri eventually does after Nobue went to go talk with her. Also, Ana comes back and shows a video play she made during her vacation. Ana’s dressed up in a white lacy dress and trying to speak some English but mixes it up with her Japanese. This prompts Miu to show what she has recorded too. It’s a recording of Chika sleeping. She focuses the camcorder on Chika’s little chest. That’s not so bad… yet. Miu then takes some stuff toys and stuff it under Chika’s chest to prop it up. With that, Chika gets really annoyed and Miu gets her usual punishment.

The next day the 4 little girls decide to go to the swimming pool but since it’s raining, it ruined their plans. Nobue comes to pick them up with an umbrella and tells them that she’ll bring them to the beach instead. So okay, unless you’re ogling at Nobue’s sexy swimsuit, perhaps there’s nothing much to see for the rest, unless you’re a lolita fetish. Thing is, when Nobue told Miu to bring her camcorder, Miu forgot to, disappointing Nobue because she was quite looking forward to it. When Nobue says how ‘flat’ Miu’s is, this prompts Miu to take off Nobue’s top, leaving her in a state of embarrassment. As punishment, Miu is buried in the sand with only her head sticking out. Yup, they’re gonna have a watermelon splitting event and the watermelon is Miu’s head! Well, Ana had a near miss. After some pleading and soon gets released and uses a real watermelon this time. When it’s Matsuri’s turn, she can’t take the whole thing and just got ‘sick’. Uh-huh, she had to lie down for a while. When it’s Chika’s turn, following Miu’s direction, Chika gets further away from the watermelon and ends up near a stall.

After that, the gang heads for a swim in the ocean. Nobue teaches Matsuri how to swim which causes Miu to feel a little jealous again. So when Nobue gives her some swimming lessons, Miu is happily paddling a certain distance when she surfaces only to find the rest of the gang had gone back on shore. Once it’s sunset, they all head home. Miu gets back to her irritating camcorder observation back home and is annoying Chika’s who’s doing her homework. But the next day when school reopens, Chika is surprised that Miu’s summer project earned her 2nd place. Yup, it’s an exaggerated summer vacation like Nobue taking an aeroplane, Matsuri meeting a kappa, and Ana investigating a crime scene murder in a Sherlock Holmes outfit. While Chika is impressed, Miu says that she may have got 1st place if she had included this picture. Miu whips out a photo of Chika’s ‘inflated’ chests while she was sleeping then. A very pissed off Chika gives Miu her punishment.

It’s the festival in episode 8. But before that our little girls are having a little exam. Miu as usual is causing some ruckus just before the exam finishes by hitting her table with 2 recorders. And when Miu tells the teacher out loud that Chika won’t show her answers to her, the teacher threw a chalk at her but Miu blocks it with her recorder and smirks. This causes Miu to stand outside the class as punishment. Back at home, Nobue is helping the girls put on their yukata. Miu plays with Matsuri’s name because the latter’s name also means the same thing in Japanese. Miu soon leaves but comes back dressed as a red ninja with a basket over her head. Miu takes off the basket only to reveal another mask she’s wearing. And later as Miu’s causing her usual annoyance (like throwing CDs as her shuriken and attacking with her toy sword), Nobue finds some black marks around Miu’s face which make her look like a panda. Funny. Soon it’s Miu’s turn to be dressed in a yukata by Nobue as she asks Miu to strip naked. Though Miu playfully feels ‘violated’ but she’s glad that she’s gonna wear a yukata.

As the gang heads to the festival, they’re wondering why Miu has brought a bag of random stuffs. We find out why. At the festival she’s planning to use them as barter trade in exchange to play a certain game at the stalls like that goldfish scooping thing. Of course, the owner isn’t dumb and Nobue has no choice but to pay for her. It seems Miu is quite skilfull, getting lots of goldfish. Though Miu says she’s saving them, after Nobue praises her, she releases all the goldfish back. Yeah, catch and release, she say. Later Miu teases Matsuri to say some tongue twisting word. Matsuri is trying her best but manages to pull through with Nobue’s help. As they get something to eat, they spot Miu trying to sell her random (and useless) stuffs by making a makeshift stall. Though some guy comes by and says nicely that she needs to get a permit to sell, Miu says she isn’t selling because she hasn’t sold 1 and soon packs her stuffs and quickly leaves.

They heard some drum beat getting louder and notices Miu up there causing another trouble as she’s calling for her Nobue Itou onee chan to help her as the authorities are trying to get her off. Nobue covers her hears and says to herself that she doesn’t know her. Oh the embarrassment. This isn’t happening. Eventually, Nobue has to as she apologizes to the authorities and promise to be strict with her. But as the fireworks start, they couldn’t see a thing because it was blocked by trees (or perhaps they’re rather too short). So back home, the gang played a little firework of their own when Miu toss some ring on Nobue’s head causing that sparkler to go off, making her mad at the same time. Nobue yells that she intends taking Miu back to the festival and selling her off. Miu then asks her 2 goldfish she got from the festival, James and Richard, to save her.

Every girl goes through that stage where they’re concerned about their weight and figure. Is it Nobue? Nope. It’s more of Chika. In episode 9, after having some potato/yam snack, Miu comments how fat Chika has gotten. Even though Chika’s words are meant to be mischevious only but Chika took it quite seriously. Chika first tries to weight herself on a scale she freaks out seeing her weight. Thing is, Miu’s there too and simultaneously freaks out as well. And then, Miu gets into her mind games again when Chika’s making some cookies like saying how she’s eating lots of cookies even though she’s just tasting. Chika slips into further depression and tries to avoid eating anything else. So much so Chika doesn’t even take a bite when Ana brings some cake over. Thinking that her weight may have gone down a little, Chika checks again and to her dismay, it’s still the same.

Nobue notices Chika reading a diet book and tries to cheer her up by playing a game of baseball outside with the rest. Chika throws a powerful pitch which hits Nobue’s side. And because of Miu’s comments as the umpire, she got ‘sit out’. When Nobue finally manages to hit the ball, Matsuri can’t even catch the ball and is covering her head in fear, though the ball landed quite a distance away. So they tried some football. Nobue is taking on Ana when Miu decides to steal the ball by flipping up Ana’s skirt. You know Nobue’s fetish, right? This causes Nobue to be slightly distracted. With that Chika steals the ball and scores. GOOOOOAL!!! But it was too powerful and hit Matsuri off the swing she’s sitting on. And for some unknown reasons, Miu too throws the baseball right at Nobue, hitting her.

Even back home, Chika continues with her dieting by doing some simple exercises. Even when Chika and Miu are bathing together, the latter still as usual playing some mischievious pranks on Chika but since Chika’s too preoccupied with her dieting, you could say she’s ignoring Miu a little. Okay, so maybe except for the part where Miu nearly drowned her. Once done, Chika finds Nobue in her room going through the diet book. Chika is still upset with her weight gain but Nobue tells her that since she’s growing up, her weight too has to increase with her height. With that, Chika gets her self-confidence back. But as for Nobue, after flipping through the diet book and then weighting herself, to her horror she noticed that she has gained some weight. Planning to go on a diet? Hehe. So how different is she from Chika?

In episode 10, Nobue’s out on her scooter and stops at a scenic spot with a cabin-like restaurant next to a lake. Meanwhile back home, Miu is playing some hypnotizing game with the rest. Of course she’s a failure. At one point when Miu and Chika left the room to go to the toilet, Matsuri really belives that Chika had turned into a dog because Miu and the dog only returned to the room. Of course we know it isn’t lah. Chika’s just taking longer than usual and soons show up. But their hypnotizing show comes to a halt when Nobue calls Chika and asks them to come over to the place she’s at. She’s not saying why as it’s gonna be a surprise. I find it a little weird for Nobue to ask the little girls to come over by themselves. I mean, it’s dangerous, don’t you think? The rest of the episode sees how the quartet try to get there but end up being ‘delayed’. We know Miu is gonna be the main source of it, right?

For instance, Chika wanted to take her bicycle but since it’s got a flat tyre, she has to walk to the bus stop, the place where they agree to meet. And that Miu is on her little scooter as she whizzes pass Chika who’s having a hard time catching up. Uh-huh, something about competing with an old man as he’s jogging pass by. When Chika does, she’s catching her breath and notices Miu, Matsuri and Ana on the bus leaving as Miu waves goodbye to her. Yeah, they got split up. The trio gets off at the destined bus stop and Chika manages to catch up with them once again. On foot. Miu scoots off in her scooter again with Chika giving chase, leaving Matsuri and Ana behind. So Matsuri and Ana are trying to find Nobue at the park. Matsuri got tired and decides to rest on a bench when Mastsuri’s pet ferret suddenly runs off. Some foreigner finds the pet ferret but is asking directions in English, in a weird accent. Ana’s in a little panic. Fortunately and ironically, since Matsuri has studied a little English, she takes the foreigner to the place he wants to go. As for Miu and Chika, they’re at a vending machine as Chika decides to get herself a drink. Before Chika could push the button of the drink she wanted, Miu beats her and presses another drink. Do you just feel like slapping her?

Because the kids are taking too long, Nobue decides call them but nobody picks up their handphone. Luckily she manage to get through Matsuri’s and says she’ll come get them. Then Miu calls her and begs her to come on some swan boat ride, pissing Nobue off as she yells to come here right away. Well, it’s her fault to ask them to come here unsupervised in the first place, right? Once she manages to round up the gang, she tells them that she wanted to treat them to some cake but since they’ve took an awfully long time, she changed her mind. Of course the girls are not too happy about it and decides to hypnotize Nobue. Yup, all of them tried to. Not sure whether if the hypnotism worked (of course not lah) because Nobue eventually treats them all. Then on after their treat as they’re walking back, Matsuri spots some flowers blooming as the 4 little girls went to have a closer look. Nobue says something like how it’s okay for them to be simple minded. But Chika replies that she doesn’t understand this kind of things. Nobue just smiled and asks them to hurry home as they all took a stroll back home in the setting sun.

Episode 11 starts off with the gang as usual gathering in Chika’s room. While Chika is dead serious and busy trying to do her homework, the rest are just idling and hanging around there. Even Nobue is hanging out with them. As usual too, life wouldn’t be complete without Miu’s mischieve like how she gives Chika a used tissue paper. Yup, Nobue just sneezed and used it and Miu had the cheek to give it to Chika as some toilet paper exchange. Chika is a little annoyed not only towards Miu but the rest as well. That’s because they’re so dull and they can’t do anything outside since it’s freezing cold. Yup, winter is approaching. While Nobue soon leaves, the other 3 girls then decide to play some paper sumo. The sumos are made out of paper and they ‘move’ by hitting the table with their palms as though like playing a conga drum. Miu of course is giving irritating nicknames to everyone else and we find out Ana is quite knowledgeable about the sumo culture. Yeah, she may be a sumo fan. Anyway, since the gang are too noisy, they’re pissing off Chika so much so that she kicked the 3 out of her room.

Just then Nobue comes back and she has caught a cold. How? Well, while on her scooter and trying to buy some cigarettes in a vending machine, she slip and fell off. So the cold icy snow soaked her clothes. Nobue tries to take a hot bath but the heater’s down and the repairman can’t come until tomorrow. So the kids suggest to go to the public bath house, which Nobue agrees. Funny part is when the gang leaves, Miu dresses and bring stuffs which indicates like as though they’re heading to the beach. Umm… What else is there to do at the bath house? I mean after putting their stuffs, klutz Matsuri even having trouble taking off one of socks while standing and losing balance, take a nice deep warm soaking bath, exchange different shampoos (Japanese and English shampoos, that is), scrubbing each other backs, Miu causing a little disturbance like asking Nobue to press some button on her back but when Nobue does Miu says that there’s no way she could have a button on her back, more soaking but this time Miu farts letting loose some bubbles (eewww… And it stinks too!), there’s that victimized old man all alone soaking by himself. Wonder if he’s really listening to the girl’s conversation. I feel it’s a little ecchi here, though nothing serious happened.

Once done, they get dressed, drink some milk and feeling all refreshed and warmed up. As they leave, it started snowing which prompts Matsuri to say how nice it would be if she gets to see Santa Claus. Before Miu could tell Matsuri ‘something nice’ about Santa, she got herself her usual punishment. Isn’t the snow cold? Nobue asks if Matsuri has ever seen Santa but the latter replies she has never even though she tried staying up late. With that, Nobue fuzzily hugs the 3 girls and soon wraps her scard around their necks, like a chain. Miu instantly gets up and wants to join in too but Nobue says her scarf isn’t long. With that, Miu tries to get in but accidentally pushes them as they fall into the snow. Oops. And they’re all just freshed and warmed from the bath.

It’s a freezing Chirstmas Eve in episode 12 as Chika gets up and opens her room window only to be pelted by Miu’s snowball in the face. Some wake up, huh. As Noboue’s shovelling the drive way, Ana and Matsuri are having trouble keeping both their feet balance as the road is slippery. As the gang made a snowman, Matsuri seems to be quite looking forward to Christmas and Santa when Miu as usual is gonna tease her that she still believe in that fairy tale but luckily Ana quickly shoves Miu and the latter ended up like her usual punishment position in the snow. Soon they head back in for some warm cocoa. As they’re playing doll house, Miu once again is gonna say that Santa isn’t real when Nobue, Chika and Ana quickly piles up on her. Yeah, like some wrestling move to shut her up. Matsuri wonders if Santa ever came to Miu’s house. Because the other 3 girls are giving Miu that threatening look, Miu has to change her story by saying that she had won over Santa. Uh-huh. Something about when she was 3 years old, Miu asked for a traffic light but got 3 coloured flashlights, when she was 4, she wanted a hot spring but got a secret hot spring set, when she was 5, she wanted a sumo wrestler but got a sumo suit and when she was 6 she wanted a mountain but Santa didn’t give her one as he left a card saying that her wish is too big and that he can’t accomplish it with his powers. With that, it’ll be her parents who will get her Christmas presents. You could say Santa gave up after that. Weird wishes in the first place. At least they aren’t run-of-the-mill wishes. Of course naive Matsuri felt pity for Miu.

Nobue remembers the time when she tries to calm a crying Chika because she fears the non-existance of Santa. Well, Nobue dressed up as some weird Santa comes into Chika’s room through her window and puts a present next to her. Thing is, once done, Nobue slip and fell off the roof because it’s slippery. Thus Nobue decides to help Matsuri believe in Santa. That night Nobue, Chika and Ana are dressed as reindeers while Miu is in a Santa suit as they’re heading over to Matsuri’s house. Suddenly a lovey-dovey couple comes by and spots them (I mean, 4 weirdos hiding behind a lamp post. Come on). Nobue seems a little annoyed because she herself doesn’t have a boyfriend yet. The couple are initially surprised to see them at first but the girl gets excited and asks them what are they doing. Miu answers that they’re finding the best couple for a give away trip to Hawaii. Of course Chika denies it all. Meanwhile the guy is asking Nobue some questions (I don’t think he’s hitting on her, mind you) as Nobue’s still pretty annoyed. Then the guy digs his own grave when he says how single people gets jealous easily. Even Miu know what’s gonna happen as she says "Oh oh, he said it". Yup, Nobue lands him a couple of reindeer kicks which sends the guy sliding face down on the road as his concerned girlfriend chases after him. Not only that, Nobue wishes how the stupid couple would break up soon. Serious case of envy.

Once they reached Matsuri’s house, they climb in through the window as Matsuri has left it open thinking the real Santa would come. Nobue asks Miu to hand her the present as Miu gave her a toy hammer. Yup, her usual punishment. Even so, when Nobue asks for the real present this time, Miu now gives her 2 toy hammer. You guessed it too, double punishment. Nobue decides to take out the present from the sack herself instead. Uh-huh. It’s a Hale Potey book! But they notice that there’s 1 already lying next to her. So is it the work of the real Santa? Because Nobue’s a little noisy, Matsuri wakes up. The gang panics a little and tries to flee by tiptoe-ing. It’s so funny to see them freeze halfway when Matsuri calls out if it’s Santa. Probably Matsuri hasn’t had her glasses on, is still in sleepy mode and the room’s quite dark. Above all, we know she’s naive. Nobue tells Miu to respond. And Miu responds with a kung-fu chinese crane position while wishing Merry Christmas, which lands her the usual punishment outside the snow covered garden. Hahaha. So Nobue tries her best to talk to Matsuri but without giving away her identity. Matsuri thanks ‘Santa’ for the hard work and tells him to do his best, which made Nobue feel a little happy.

While making their way back, they’re talking about Santa’s existance and such as they notice Nobue isn’t still happy because she mentions that one day Matsuri will find out and that they’re just delaying the inevitable. But after some talk like if the belief in Santa makes one happy and such then Santa will be real. Uh-huh, that there’s hope kinda talk. In turn, this made Nobue realize and that Santa will definitely come. The next morning, Nobue wakes up and decides to shovel the pathway and calls for Chika to help but she’s not in her room. When Nobue goes outside, she saw 5 cute little snowman, oddly resembling them. Yeah, very odd. Nobue just smiled. Soon our 4 little girls make their way to school as they spot Nobue on her scooter. They ask her where she’s going and Nobue replied that she’s going to school. Ana wonders and asks Chika if there’s anything wrong with Nobue and Chika replied something about her sis mentioning a cool-looking guy in the morning the other day. Ana and Matsuri are surprised and thinks could that guy be Nobue’s potential lover. But Chika and Miu sarcastically scoffs it off saying "No way, no way". No confidence in her, huh.

Then a big change in class. Remember that Sakazuka kid? When the teacher tells him to go stand outside, he just said "I don’t want to". With that, the teacher goes and stand outside himself! HAHAHA! See, you must learn to say ‘No’ too. Meanwhile Ana and Matsuri are having a chat in their classroom and wonders what kind of guy he is Nobue’s potential lover. And as for Chika and Miu, Miu’s getting braver and braver as quoted by their teacher because she just stood up and raise her voice while telling the teacher how Chika won’t let her copy her homework and won’t treat her to sweets. Some things will never change. I suppose Nobue decides not to go to school because we see her relaxing and huffing her cigarette at some park while enjoying the moment.

Overall, I think this whole anime is cutely okay. Some funny and hilarious moments there especially from Miu. As mentioned without her, the whole story won’t be that interesting to watch. You could say variety spices up our lives. But this kid is too ‘spicy’. Though there is a 3 episode OVA and has already ended its run in early 2007, I still haven’t watched it yet as I’m waiting for the subs to come out. Yeah, I’ll be anticipating more of Miu’s mischieves. If you can’t get enough of this series, there’s even a video game on it.

Since the theme is cute, the drawing and art are made to look that way too. Though it’s not your typical bishies nor those drawing for kiddies, I guess it’s a balance in between. I happen to notice that at times the characters (especially the little girls) have this pink blush on their cheeks. Uh-huh. To make it look cute. Voice acting wise, I could say they’re quite well done and of course my favourite is still Miu’s. Quite fitting for her bratty role. There isn’t any real character developments since there isn’t any real plot. You could guess their personalities from the 1st episode and it stays that way right till the end.

The mid-intermissions somehow reminded me a little aobut Azumanga Daioh. Not that they’re both really similar. We see a still close up shot of some body part of Nobue’s (usually below her neck or her hips, but nothing ecchi) with that short single solo wind musical instrument playing (I think it’s a melodian. I could be wrong though) in an otherwise silent mid-intermission.

Another nice thing about this series is the background music. Though there are some slow ones, generally they’re all fun and cute to listen to. My favourite one is Hotto Suru Theme which is a cool and easy double acoustic guitar pluckings. It makes you feel like you wanna relax and chill on a hot day. Also both the opening and ending themes sound and look cute, though it doesn’t really appeal to me. By the way, the opening theme song Ichigo Complete are sung by the voice actresses of the 4 little girls while the ending theme Classmate is sung by Fumiko Orikasa, which is the voice actress for Miu. Hmm… They sound so different that I can’t recognize her.

I read many viewers say how the manga version is better than the anime. Well since I haven’t read the manga before, I guess I can’t do any comparison about it. Plus, there are quite a number of differences betwen the anime and manga like the character designs and Nobue’s age in the manga is only 16 years old. Also the anime tries to cramp several chapters into 1 episode. Not only that, even the video game is inconsistent with the anime and manga. Is that a good or a bad thing? I suppose it doesn’t matter if it’s all cute. But I still find the anime relatively enjoyable to watch. Though there are some little ecchi scenes which some people may say it’s like kiddie porn because of those parts where the girls took a bath together naked and such. But as far as I’m concern, all the necessary parts are strategically covered.

So kids, lesson learned is that never be like Miu. You may think that by trying to be cute Miu’s way, people would become soft-hearted. I think you’ll receive more than that face down punishment, seeing today’s world is so violent. And that "Are you trying to be cute?" respond isn’t likely to be a compliment either. Thus, I can foresee what kind of person Miu becomes when she grows up. But then again, the future may be uncertain and Miu may change. Maybe. But for now, no matter how irritating she is, it’s better for things to stay as it is. Hey, you need someone to bug you in order to keep you on your toes, right? Now isn’t that cute.
