Magi: The Kingdom Of Magic

January 24, 2015

They should have called the sequel Aladdin and the Magic Kingdom because that is what Magi: The Kingdom Of Magic is all about. At least half of it. With the plot and storyline progressing steadily from the first season, I am sure there is a reason why Aladdin is hogging a big chunk of the second season. That reason being the main trio heading off to their own separate ways (albeit temporarily) to improve themselves in preparation for the ultimate battle between good and evil. And thus in this season we have Aladdin in focus as he tries to learn and master magic techniques that will allow him to become a true Magi in this world. So get ready to tune in for more Arabian Niiiiiiiiights. Like Arabian Daaaaaaaaays…

Episode 1
Back at Sindria, Sinbad announces for a celebration with Alibaba and co’s safe return and of course the successful capturing of another Dungeon. There is even a play enacting their Dungeon capture but the actors look so ‘lame’ that it’s making them laugh… Ka Kobun tells Kougyoku and Hakuryuu that it is time to return home. Hakuryuu feels he needs to get Sinbad’s answer before then. Sinbad talks to Aladdin about the other Magi besides him. Apart from Judal who is serving the Kou Empire, there is Yunan then wandering Magi and the one who caused the first Dungeon to appear 15 years ago and Scheherazade, Reim Empire’s Magi who is also responsible for that empire’s prosperity for 2 centuries. Seems Sinbad is trying to persuade Aladdin to become Sindria’s Magi but Aladdin remains cautious and doesn’t accept it yet. Sinbad also goes to ‘flirt’ with Kougyoku and she really hopes this would never end. Jafar thinks he is a despicable man but he claims he needs to get all the resources he can get. Aladdin expresses his wish to learn more about magic so Yamraiha mentions the kingdom of Magnostadt where she learnt magic at their academy till 10 years ago. Sinbad and his Eight Generals are analyzing Dark Metal weapons and they find Magnostadt’s symbol engraved on it. Sinbad is going to talk to Dunya (who is under their custody) but Yamraiha cautions that her lips are tightly sealed especially when she learnt Yamraiha studied at Magnostadt. The only one who can break the ice is Aladdin. She’s laughing at his antics! And then he cannot resist it. Groping her boobs and thighs! Oh Aladdin! You lucky pervy bastard!!! Sinbad assures Sindria is not aligned with Magnostadt and that Yamraiha has stopped associating with them 10 years ago. Suddenly his Metal Vessels start reacting. It causes Dunya pain. Yamraiha manages to temporarily stop its proliferation but since it has eaten her too deep, it is only a matter of time. Aladdin uses his Magi power to dive into her mind and free her from the Dark Metal Vessel in her. He sees all the hate and grief from other people. Although he frees her, however the after effect of the Dark Metal Vessel aggravates her situation. She doesn’t have long to live. Alibaba discusses with Aladdin and Morgiana about Hakuryuu’s departure. Aladdin also announces he wants to go on a journey by himself.

Episode 2
Aladdin wants to learn more about the world although he likes it here, he feels he might get drawn into Sinbad’s great light. Of course they are worried about Aladdin’s decision to study at Magnostadt because of their peculiar discriminating system. Aladdin doesn’t want the rest to follow and they have to figure out their goals themselves. He wants to make Alibaba his king but has no power or knowledge to do so yet. Morgiana trains with Masrur when she asks about the Dark Continent. He explains he saw none of their people there. He thinks if this helps her to move on, then she must visit the place herself. Kougyoku wants to spar with Alibaba (because they are friends now) but it is Sinbad who does the honours. She is thrilled to fight with him so Sinbad had to cut short their bout at the expense of knocking out others nearby (those who don’t cover their ears) with some djinn shouting high frequency waves. Hakuryuu goes to beg Sinbad for his help although it doesn’t have to be now but in the future when he calls for it. Sinbad looks on the positive side and agrees. Aladdin talks to Dunya about his plan and hopes she will wait for him to come back with a cure. However she knows he is lying because she doesn’t have that much time left. They chat and Dunya feels glad to have met him. She dies after Dark Metal Vessel engulfs her body. It is a sad day for everyone as they watch Dunya’s body being cremated. Hakuryuu tells Morgiana about his family being murdered by Al-Thamen. He knows the organization has infiltrated the Kou Empire and had he accepted their invitation, he might have ended up like that too. Morgiana feels envy. She cannot remember her own family. She was alone and sold into slavery until about a year ago she was saved by Alibaba. Hakuryuu tries to give her hope her parents might be alive somewhere. Kougyoku talks to Alibaba about how she fell in love at first sight with Sinbad and chased him all the way to Sindria. Unlike her siblings, she heard her mom was a prostitute and she was born on the streets. Thus she is a princess of low birth and kept her distance in the palace as she never felt belonged. Only Judal and her big brother, Kouen recognized her warrior abilities. Although she is not sure yet, she is going home to search for her purpose.

Episode 3
Sinbad and the Eight Generals see off Aladdin, Morgiana and Hakuryuu. In the end, Alibaba never come to see them off. Unknown to them, he stowed away on the ship and thinks of surprising them with a perfect chance to make up. He waits for them to enter but they enter the room next door. He thought they would be worried about him but instead they are talking behind his back! Especially about his unpopularity. So much about being friends, huh? This hurts him a lot so he starts crying. In the end it is revealed that they knew he sneaked on board and were just playing a prank on him. Gotcha! Alibaba is also on a journey to train to become a gladiator. Sinbad noticed he couldn’t perform a full body Djinn Equip despite all the training and detected his Magoi might have changed in quality. At this rate he will never master it no matter how much effort he puts in. But don’t worry. Sinbad had this sort of experience too so he went to the Village of Magoi Manipulation inhabited by a minority race called Yambala. Because they are nomads, nobody knows where their real village is. However because they train to be gladiators, you are bound to run into them in Reim Coliseum, the largest coliseum in the world. As their ship nears the port, Morgiana could see something wrong ahead. The port is on fire. A strange looking kid, Olba floats by. He wants them to hand over their goods because he and his men are pirates of Umm Madaura.

Episode 4
The gang is surprised that the pirates are made up of kids. Olba uses his Magic Tool to throw them into the water but Hakuryuu summons Zagan’s power to bring them back up. Olba holds Aladdin hostage and give the pirates enough time to clean out everything before submerging back into the sea. When they arrive at the devastated port, they are greeted by the small army who explain that most of their troops were sent to the northern border to defend against Magnostadt. Ever since the fall of Mustasim Kingdom, they have started to encroach onto other land. The poor people are devastated because not only the pirates took their belongings but their children too. The army doesn’t know where the pirates’ base is and surely they can’t follow underwater. Do not fear. Hakuryuu has planted some seed in one of the goods they stole and its roots will lead them to it. But the army continues to give weak excuses why they can’t. The people blow their top accusing them that just because they are poor and from the slums unlike nobles, they don’t care. This brings back certain trauma for Alibaba. If the army won’t do it, they’ll save the children. Without any reward. Besides, they’re not in a hurry to go anywhere, right? Aladdin wakes up on the ship and sees children powering some Magic Tool to keep this ship running. They are willing to die for Madaura. The pirates’ base is in some rocky enclave. Aladdin notices lots of children. Heck, everyone is children. Olba explains the kids here get to eat all they want and sleep peacefully. Everyone gives their praise to the big boss Madaura. However Aladdin is not convinced because he saw kids nearly dying on the boat. The rest are still adamant that they will die for her cause and chant her name. Wow. Just like a cult. Madaura believes Aladdin will see the light of their way in time. Aladdin and co report back to Sindria what happened via some orb they gave Aladdin before they depart. Aladdin doesn’t want backup and will handle this themselves. The pirates are alerted that a ship is approaching them. Olba is confident they can’t get in. Want to bet? If they can’t go underwater, get in from the top! Morgiana swings and throws the guys like a discus and makes a great jump herself. Right on target.

Episode 5
Madaura won’t let Aladdin go to his friends and has him follow her. She starts brainwashing him that she is his mother. After Olba powers up the kids, they play hide-and-seek with Alibaba. The caves prove useful for making ambush attacks. I don’t know how but Morgiana follows them deep inside and beats the crap out of everyone so much so the caves’ frontier collapse. They head deeper inside only to see weak terrified young kids trying to kill them. If they go all out, they may look like bullies. Just ignore them and head on. But the kids plead not to kill Madaura since she is like their mother who saved them from the slums and took good care of them when everyone else abandoned them. So the trio are in a dilemma since despite their sympathetic position, does it give them the right to steal and plunder as pirates? Besides, they also have their own tragic memories of their own mother. Aladdin breaks free of Madaura’s spell right when Alibaba and co arrive. Madaura uses her giant fan to brainwash them. Now they start seeing their own mother in Madaura and are overwhelmed by her. Madaura notes this is her plan to brainwash and groom children from a young age to become future leaders so she can rule the world. Because no child can live or solve conflicts on their own. Alibaba starts feeling guilty over the incidents that happened in Balbadd when Aladdin snaps him out of it with some lecture that he shouldn’t mindlessly obey somebody even if that person is his mother. Also, think about all the feelings that other people he met on his journey entrusted him. That is why they are not alone. Alibaba and Morgiana break free from the hypnotism much to Madaura’s surprise. It means that they might have a body of a child but their mind is already an adult. Olba and the rest will still protect Madaura with their lives. Alibaba tries to convince them they have been deceived. Alibaba wants Hakuryuu to use his special move but it seems he is still under her influence. He uses his power against them.

Episode 6
Hakuryuu remembers his brother told him to fight till his last breath. He is giving all he is got against Alibaba although the latter eventually bests him when his Magoi Manipulation reached its limit. Madaura and the kids carry all the treasure they can and try to escape but the navy has surrounded the place thanks to a call from Sindria. They have no choice but to give up. Back on land, Madaura is about to be taken away. The kids still adore her but in her heart she thought they were just useless. The people try to take the law into their own hands and want to kill her now. Hakuryuu suddenly comes between them as if he was trying to protect her. Big surprise… He cuts off her head!!! Not in front of those kids!!! Later Hakuryuu reveals Madaura had eyes that looked like his mom. He remembers his mission to kill Al-Thamen’s witch, Gyokuen Ren who defected to his uncle’s side and seized control of Kou Empire. His mission is to kill his mom who was the person who ordered his family’s murder. So when his mom remarried and he became the new king’s adopted child, he then vowed to kill her no matter what. Alibaba feels despite all that, he is just settling a personal score. Olba is going to kill Hakuryuu but doesn’t even come close. He lectures him that he has killed other women who are also mothers. Also, he might have realized they were being used because they were kidnapping children only to help Madaura to line her pockets and gained nothing. They were never loved in the first place. Alibaba decides to take custody of the pirate kids and send them to Sindria under Sinbad’s care. At first Olba didn’t care. Without Madaura, their existence is nothing. But Alibaba lectures him and even gets emotional that he can’t change what happened. Since he is like the big brother whom everyone looks up to, he shouldn’t say such things and should look to the future. So we’re done here with this? Chapter closed. Morgiana confronts Hakuryuu as he leaves. She doesn’t want him to say goodbye like that. Here’s another surprise. He confesses he likes her and even kisses her! Now Alibaba needs to go talk to Hakuryuu but Morgiana won’t let him. In that case, Aladdin will do it. Will he reconsider? Hakuryuu explains he is about to start a war that will split Kou Empire into 2. He wants his help as Sinbad has pledged his. Aladdin is not sure. He really wants to help out but he thinks he is obsessed with revenge and this would only lead to more sorrow. Since it’s like that, Hakuryuu thanks him for everything and carries on his journey. He remembers Morgiana cried after that confession because no man ever said that to her. She felt happy. Since she can’t come with him, he promised that he will return one day and ask her to be his bride once more.

Episode 7
The trio have their last meal together. Morgiana looks a little down. Later the guys visit the red light district so Morgiana tails them to see them really having fun. It makes her feel confused about Hakuryuu’s confession. She’s mad. But there’s nothing she can do about it. Alibaba doesn’t want to lose out so he calls the best girl. It’s that big ugly girl… Have we seen her before? I know who is going to be the biggest loser… Next morning, the trio part their ways. Alibaba gives Morgiana a spare Household Vessel in case hers breaks she can transfer her powers into this extra piece. Aladdin is hungry after flying too long on his magic carpet. He sees a travelling troupe and tries to hitch a ride. The old guy doesn’t want him since he is currently transporting a very important person. Till Aladdin shows his gold from Sinbad… Along the way, bandits ambush them. Aladdin wants to help out but the VIP, Kouha Ren comes out from his carriage and kills all of them with his flexible sword. He looks like enjoying every bit of it. Aladdin learns he is also heading to Magnostadt and talks to him. I won’t say they become close buddies but at least they have company for the rest of the journey. Also, his female servants are grateful and love Kouha because saved them from some lab that turned parts of their bodies into something horrible. However Kouha views them as beautiful. They are at the entry checkpoint of Magnostadt. Aladdin needs to pass a simple magic test but it won’t be easy. As Yamraiha warned, he must hide the fact that he is a Magi or Magnostadt will do whatever it takes to capture him. One of them being he cannot show his Rukh. This is hard since Rukhs appear whenever he uses them. Aladdin passes the test although the Rukhs appear for a while but the tester thinks they are just some interference. Seems Yamraiha gave him a Magic Tool that restricts the flow of Magoi to one direction. He can still produce Magoi but cannot receive it externally. This might turn him into a normal magician and neither the Rukh nor anybody will be on his side, Aladdin still accepted it because there is something in Magnostadt he really wants to find out.

Episode 8
All newcomers need to take a Kodor test to determine their rank. Well, Aladdin got 6th and the last rank. This is how well he could do without his Rukh’s help? His roommate is the arrogant Sphintus who thinks he is hell of a great despite just being 4th Kodor. Aladdin gets to know that every 2 months there is this Iktiyar magic test whereby one can be expelled if one fails. So for 6th Kodor magicians, they’re going to have physical training. No magic stamina. And with this Myers lady who looks more like some S&M queen, it’s unforgiving Spartan training. Aladdin never knew he was this weak, huh? So what is his motivation to go on? Myers’ big bouncy boobs… Although Aladdin perseveres, others drop out. In the end, only 5 of them remember. Myers has them test their magic and it is much bigger than before. This is all thanks to the rigorous training to strengthen their physical strength. Now they are ready to learn magic. Myers has them test their magic via some crystal to determine their magic type. There are 8 types (in ascending order): Fire, water, light, lightning, wind, sound, power and life. Aladdin is fire based. But this doesn’t mean he can only use fire. Based on the diagram, Aladdin’s other compatible magic is wind. After more practical training, the time for the Iktiyar magic test is here. Aladdin goes out and impresses everyone with his big combination of fire and wind magic. No doubt he passes and instantly jumps to 1st Kodor rank! Myers is so happy that she hugs him. Finally, the boobs reward…

Episode 9
Alibaba has finally reached Reim. However he got robbed along the way and is stripped of almost everything. Making his way to the gladiator school, he is stopped by Toto who won’t allow this weakling to enter. Since he insists, they fight to prove himself. But because he is weak without food, he is easily defeated and is kicked out. Alibaba is thankfully rescued by the Nando brothers. Remember those petty thieves who stole from Sinbad in the first season? Looks like they’re making it big in this country running a casino now. While the brothers treat him, a naked man causes commotion because he lost everything in a bet. He turns out to be Shambal Ramal, leader of the Yambala Gladiators. Since he heard from Toto about this afternoon, he is going to give him a chance by fighting Toto again. Now that he is filled up, Alibaba fights better than Toto. Shambal allows Toto to use her Magoi. The moment her sword touches him, Alibaba is blown back and is bleeding. He gets it again. Any more hit, may kill him outright. Alibaba cannot resort to his Djinn Equip and uses his different sword styles to best her. Shambal declares Alibaba the victor despite Toto believing she could still go on. Not if she wants to fight topless! Shambal brings Alibaba into his school where all sorts of swordsmen with different backgrounds from failed mercenaries and thieves to homeless knights have joined. Shambal and Toto are part of the 5 Swordsmen of Yambala and their goal is to train warriors. Alibaba informs about his bad Magoi flow that inhibits his Full Body Djinn Equip. Shambal looks into it (acupuncture?) and realizes his dangerous situation. Seems he has 2 different Magoi types in his body. In short, if left freely, it will tear apart his organs and kill him. The only way is to control both his Magoi flow. Since this treatment is not free, he needs to work and that is to win a fight or two in the gladiator ring. Well, he is confident of taking on any gladiators but he didn’t expect it to be a monster, Garda! Scheherazade is seen watching this match from the stands.

Episode 10
Here’s another catch. He can only use normal swords. This means no Djinn Equip or anything. Alibaba seems to be doing fine dodging Garda’s attacks. He is confident since the crowd is cheering for him. But when his sword gets stuck after he tries to thrust deep, that’s where trouble begins. He gets smashed and tossed around like a ragdoll. Alibaba realizes the harsh reality of being a gladiator because the crowd is cheering for Garda to eat him! Garda loves to play with his food so he sinks his teeth into his hand for more pain. You know you’re a goner when your life starts flashing before your eyes. It seems like game over when Garda breaks his arm and nobody is going to stop the match. Alibaba remembers how he survived with Kassim and suddenly he changes. Back then, they didn’t have weapons and only rely on their wits and teamwork to outsmart bandits. Running around the arena, he finds a spear and sticks it into his mouth to jam it just before Garda is about to devour it. Then he uses the force of the wall when Garda tries to punch him to stick his sword into his fist, jamming it. Now they’re both one arm. Although slashing Garda with the broken sword does minimal damage, eventually the more he slashes, the more it wears out Garda and the big baboon collapses. At that point, Shambal sees both Alibaba’s Magoi fuse with each other. Scheherazade is watching this match because she sensed a disturbing presence but couldn’t determine if it is Alibaba’s. Her bodyguard, Muu Alexius talks to her about rumours that Magnostadt may be trying to conquer Reim as they have been gathering loads of Magic Tools that are supposedly found only in Dungeons. Scheherazade promises to protect Reim but is also worried after sensing some major abnormality in Kou. Toto is surprised that Garda is now Alibaba’s pet! Oh sh*t! He used his reward money to free him from his gladiator services. Just like Garda, Toto looks at Alibaba with a different view now and with some respect. Though, he can still be clumsy. Shambal comes to fix him and asks if he has found the other Magoi residing within. After the match, they fused. What was it he realized in that moment? He has been thinking about the power entrusted to him and is going to take back the country he lost. He needs more power for that and hopes to continue studying under Shambal.

Episode 11
Morgiana just arrived at her homeland, Cathargo. However it is barren. In a nearby town contemplating if there her fellow Fanalis are still around, a group of bandits are getting ready to kidnap her but surprise! Sahbmad and Ahbmad advise them not to for their own safety. They believe since Morgiana’s feet are ‘cracking’ the ground. The duo are currently under Sinbad’s archaeological survey unit and are studying the mysterious tribe of Torran. They take her to their village they are staying and take her to the chief. He mentions the Dark Continent is split by the Great Rift and believes Fanalis are still there. However he warns once she goes there, she can never come back to this side. After resolving herself, Morgiana takes a leap down into the deep dark valley using her chains to help repel down. So deep and dark that it feels like she is falling forever. It’s making her crazy and remembering her traumatic past. Will this fall ever end? Suddenly she hits the ground. Hard solid ground. Dark as night. To save Magoi, she uses her ultra sonic scream sound waves to detect her surroundings. Then she runs forward till she reaches a light. A house in the middle of nowhere? Yunan welcomes and congratulates her for reaching here. Calling himself the guardian of this forest, he knows her name because he could hear the people calling her at the valley’s entrance. He must have good ears or this place has very good echo. He knows her goal of seeing her fellow Fanalis and can arrange to let her meet them. However he cautions there is no turning back once she goes over to the other side. He has the power to send her there but not bring her back. He hopes not to do it. After all, Fanalis suffered greatly on this side. Besides, a terrible war is looming and it will affect the entire world. The reason being the emperor of Kou has died. Meanwhile Kouha is in negotiations with Magnostadt’s chancellor, Matal Mogamett. After hearing the news, negotiations are off and Kouha will have to return to his empire. He warns Kou will invade Magnostadt in the future and hopes he will decide whether to be subjugated or eliminated. You mad, old man? Hakuei returns to Koumei and introduces her 100 Kouga men who became her Household Metal users. Hakuryuu also arrives riding his monsters. Now he looks so badass. But here comes the first prince of Kou, Kouen.

Episode 12
Kouen will wait for all the siblings to return before going to His Majesty. Kougyoku wishes to talk to Kouen so we have a short flashback of Ka Kobun narrating how he was assigned to be her attendant but found her in a worst state. To achieve his quest for power, he decided not to give up on her. He’s quite a smooth talker… Kougyoku hears Kouen talk to Hakuryuu and Hakuei. He asks Hakuryuu if he wants to become emperor. He doesn’t want to go to war against his brother. Because the world only needs one king. He explains about his thoughts on the mysterious origins of Metal Vessels, King Solomon, the Torran inscriptions that appear in all Dungeons and the world divided and speaking in many languages. His theory that the world had only 1 language before is because so they won’t end up dying out after fighting because they can’t communicate and are cut off from each other. Kouen’s goal is to unite the world into one and he wants Hakuryuu’s help. All the siblings proceed to pay their last respects to their late emperor and father (his body is hideous after succumbing to disease). Gyokuen tries to jump ship to Kouen but he is uninterested. By right Kouen should be the next emperor but everyone is taken by surprise Gyokuen is announced to be the successor and the Imperial Priests will aid her in her duties. This doesn’t sit well with some and Hakuei worries this will split their empire into factions. Hakuryuu suddenly goes up and tells Gyokuen to ascend the throne. Later as Hakuryuu reveals to Hakuei, it is his plan to crack Gyokuen’s bond with Kouen. The priests behind her all from Al-Thamen. He believes he has the power to return to this country to normal. He has lived for this day to take down Gyokuen. Hakuei remains sceptical because what he is doing will divide the country instead. She believes in Kouen’s vision. Judal talks to Hakuryuu and tells him that he thinks he might be revolting but that grudge is revenge is part of her manipulation. Gyokuen comes to see him but Hakuryuu won’t let her touch her. Then she hints that she should have killed him that day and this makes him mad. Despite all the super power in his attack, it didn’t do a scratch and Gyokuen easily hits him away. She reminds him all he needs to do is be her adorable kid.

Episode 13
Sphintus has been promoted to 1st Kodor too and only he and Aladdin will advance to the second year. His class is sure he will be named the top student but to their surprise it is Titus Alexius, the son of one of the ruling class of Reim. So pretty… Like a girl? Aladdin sees lots of Rukhs from him. While Titus’ ugly subordinates harass other students, Titus wants to make friends with Aladdin. However instead of shaking his hand, Aladdin fondles his boobs! See! What did I tell you he looks like a girl! Well, at least now we know he isn’t. Titus feels insulted that he wants to beat him. Mogamett walks by and everyone bows down except Aladdin because he don’t know who this old geezer is. Since Mogamett pats him, he thinks he isn’t such a bad guy. Then it is announced, Titus and Aladdin will fight in tomorrow’s exam. The loser will not advance to learn anything. So in this epic magic battle, both sides do well with Aladdin creating a sand golem in Ugo’s image but Titus has his impenetrable barrier. He mocks Aladdin’s magic as simple as he demonstrates his magic combo. That small little ball is enough to pack lots of explosion and damage. To compensate for his lack of magic, Aladdin uses his sound magic and combines it with his martial arts to go on the offensive. They both accidentally rip each other’s sleeve. Aladdin fears his Magic Tool will expose his identity but to his surprise, Titus also has the same Magic Tool on his arm. Could he be a Magi too? Before the battle can continue, Mogamett stops them and calls it a draw. He personally recommends them directly for several seminars. Aladdin wants to talk to Titus more but Titus attacks him as he thinks he cannot complete his mission with him around. If not for Mogamett’s quick action, Aladdin could have died. Aladdin dreams of King Solomon witnessing the world about to become one. But it failed because magicians and non-magicians hold deep grudges and ended in a big war with many casualties. If that same thing happens today, the world will end and that’s why Aladdin is here. He feels the key to stop that is in this country. Titus is in solitary confinement for his actions. He is panicking as he communicates back with Scheherazade. He never thought another Magi subordinate will be here. She tells him to fight on till the end to protect Reim.

Episode 14
When Titus is released, he talks to Aladdin. He reveals he is under a mission by Scheherazade and thinks Aladdin is similar. Aladdin speaks the truth that he is a Magi and this shocks Titus. But this doesn’t stop their friendship. Along with Sphintus, the trio explore the city that certain higher level magicians can enter. Titus is amazed with every cute thing… Aladdin learns the discriminating system of this place and citizens without magic are called Goi and are all housed in isolation in the 5th district, which is forbidden for their level to visit. Because that night Titus gets scolded by Scheherazade for fooling around and to hurry up with his mission, he brings Aladdin and Sphintus along but since they don’t know where it is, they disguise and sneak into the admin building to find the kingdom’s blueprints. To their shock, 2/3 of the population consists of Goi. Upon arriving at the district, it looks like this underground city is just like the slums. Depressing. They feel their Magoi flowing out when a young girl, Marga collapses before them. Titus takes her in to heal her as the people are surprised the magicians are treating them nicely. They are further surprised to learn this district is a Magoi production facility. It is designed so their Magoi will be drained and help power the Magic Tools you see in town. Marga has a heart condition and has not long to live but she dreams of going outside. She gets excited when Aladdin tells her some of his stories. Titus wants to take her outside but some citizens won’t let him because it would be a crime and all of them will be collectively punished by death. There is a big hole in the middle where Magoi gets processed and since they don’t have wings, they’ll be thrown in there. Titus says he can fly everyone out if they desire. The people remain pessimistic. They are happy with the way things are now. Suddenly the nightly patrol arrives to do head count. Aladdin and co have to hide since they will be expelled if they are caught. When Marga collapses, the magician officer, Doron deems her unfit and is sent to her death. The elders plead for mercy because the children are innocent. But Doron doesn’t give a damn because if they can’t produce Magoi, they are as good as garbage. And that means you die. Marga is tossed into the hole. She thinks that’s the end of her. She must be dreaming to see Titus and Aladdin diving down to save her.

Episode 15
Doron beats up Titus and could have died had not Sphintus heal him. Doron then throws everyone into the hole as punishment. Aladdin saves them. They prepare for the big fight but Myers put a stop to it. Aladdin is brought before Mogamett and surprisingly he forgives him. Because he has not truly understand the truth yet. Everyone who first came here were like that. Later he privately speaks to Aladdin and the latter becomes defensive when he asks about Yamraiha. She was his best student and treated her like his own daughter for a few years. He knows Aladdin is here on a mission but whatever that mission is, it doesn’t matter because Mogamett hopes for mutual understanding and coexistence. Aladdin can tell he is not lying but at the same time he remembers his past cruel capabilities. Aladdin is invited to a lecture that will guarantee to learn the truth. Meeting up with Titus and Sphintus at the lecture hall, it seems they have been granted authority to access 5th level district since Titus kept bugging the directors. Mogamett gives his direct speech to the magicians. He questions them if they are aware of themselves. He points out they are different than their loved ones and the purpose magicians exist. Although they can manipulate Rukh, magicians have never dominated in world history. All of the empires and kingdoms were of Goi. He uses his clairvoyance magic to project his personal experience to the class. It happened 70 years ago in the Mustasim Kingdom. 10 magicians were serving the royal family and since magic was not fully developed yet, they were treated like slaves and magic spells took a toll on their bodies. His wife died in the process. His daughter, Sana couldn’t understand why magicians exist so Mogamett gave her hope that magic exists to save lives and make the world a better place. The magicians continued to develop magic and give the common people a better life. Their fruits of labour were acknowledged and they were given the nobility status.

Mogamett has Titus explain what he saw underground. Oppressed people with Magoi being sucked away. Oppressed? Life may be hard without Magoi but didn’t he see those Goi wasting their days in idle bliss? As long as their primitive desires are fulfilled, they are happy. It makes them no different like livestock. But they are different than livestock on one thing. They have lust to dominate. But don’t magicians too? Mogamett has them think what they crave most. To learn magic. Knowledge. Because of that, no magicians in the past have ever tried to found a nation. An incident led him to believe it was wrong. Three years later, an epidemic swept the place. Healing magic could not work and worst, nobles spread rumours that the magicians were the ones who spread the disease as they fear of their sudden rise in status. The people started to hate them and they were thrown into prisons. The few who managed to survive, escaped to a small isolated school and eke out a living researching magic. 30 years later, a major war broke out as the Partevia Empire sought to expand its territory. Mustasim made the magicians go to war. Although Mustasim repelled the forces, many magicians died including Sana who continued to believe in magic existing to save Goi. The last straw came when Mogamett heard the nobles badmouthing magicians as useful tools as an outlet for the public’s discontent and as their shield in wars. Magicians are convenient breeds. Mogamett is horrified that magic existed for men such as these. Recurring wars between nations were no more than territorial disputes just to satisfy their lust to dominate. They’re like savage beasts. Were magicians doomed to servitude in a world with savage kings? It made him think that magicians are the ones who are capable of creating a better world on rational ideas and reigning in the savages. He decided magicians had to escape the rule of Goi and take full control over them who couldn’t even suppress their own desires. That is why he had to create a country of magicians, led by magicians and for magicians.

Episode 16
Continuing his speech, when the people found the nobles to be getting too greedy, a civil war broke out and the magicians were on the people’s side. Titus accuses Mogamett of wanting to be king and believes nobody will give him support after seeing the 5th district. He goes on ranting about poor Marga that she just wanted to go outside. Mogamett tells him if that is what she wants then just do so. But there are many others like her. Is he going to take responsibility for all of them? If he is doing it only for Marga, it is only like for his self satisfaction. Titus can’t answer to that. Aladdin also disagrees with Mogamett’s way especially about absorbing Magoi from many to cater for a few above ground. As some students are worried their parents are also Goi and don’t like the idea of having them locked underground, Mogamett assures that there are many Goi living and working above like normal. His wish is not to oppress Goi but to create a nation where people can live in peace. But magicians are often persecuted and treated unfairly. He merely wants to end that. So while the students ponder to have a look at the underground, Mogamett allows Titus to take Marga and live with him. He feels sorry for him because the way he threw his support behind her, he got to peek into his shadow. He knows about him working for Scheherazade and pities her and Yamraiha who are fighting a lonely battle. The way they are doing things will get themselves killed eventually. Because they depend on their own to create big barriers instead of help from others or Magic Tools so their magic will deplete faster. Mogamett goes down underground with them, picks out Marga and hands her to Titus. Aladdin cannot tell if he is truly kind hearted or otherwise. Because when another kid comes pleading he wants to go outside, he kicks him away! Aladdin realizes Mogamett do not see people who aren’t magicians as fellow human beings. Like a pet or pest? This kind of thinking will only hasten the world’s end.

Happy days are here for Titus and Marga. They spend time together but her body is at her limit. To his surprise, Mogamett can do a spell that prolongs her life. It’s not that she is cured but he just delayed the inevitable. Aladdin is in Irene’s class about Rukhs. He is surprised to see black Rukhs in her lab as experiments. One of them being artificial life form created from black Rukhs. Because all this doesn’t surprise Aladdin, Irene notes it is true that they need to keep an eye on him and hints he may know a lot more. Aladdin also hints back that Magnostadt has connections with a certain organization but she feigns she doesn’t know. Titus reports back the Scheherazade about Magnostadt producing Magic Tools to intimidate Reim. She learns about his happy life with Marga and reminds him she hasn’t forgiven him yet for that 5th district incident. She warns the more he enjoys, he will be the one with the most regrets. His job is to identify the threat to Reim and although he is doing a fine job, he should know better that he has not enough time too. Marga talks to Titus and is grateful for everything. She hopes he can wait till she grows up so she can repay him back a lot. He will wait. Good choice. Because he would look like a lolicon if it starts right now. Titus goes to see Mogamett. He is crying and says he doesn’t want to die yet.

Episode 17
Titus is not suffering from some human disease. Actually he is not even human to begin with. He is made out from Scheherazade’s magic and gained consciousness when he was already forming (ugly alien blob?!). After all that emo ranting, it seems Titus’ problem is that since he has a month to live, he can’t taste true freedom and the wonders of nature and longer and questions the reason of his existence. He doesn’t feel his life is worthy. Mogamett tries his best to be his depression counsellor but his emo turns into hatred when Scheherazade takes over his body to communicate with Mogamett. She wants Magnostadt to become a colony under Reim because in the future she sees only 2 options for this magician country. That or become a territory of Kou and fight Reim. Mogamett refuses and won’t even hand Titus back because this is the kind of people he wants to protect. Give him back! No way! I’m keeping him! No you don’t! And so the struggle ends when Mogamett destroys the Magic Tool. He is willing to risk going making enemies out of Reim. So be it. Mogamett tells all of this to Aladdin so the latter asks if he is in league with Al-Thamen. Mogamett knew Ithnan. He once approached him to provide him knowledge and the magicians created Magic Tools and Dark Metal Vessels to defeat Goi. However he severed ties with Ithnan when he found out he was also providing Goi with such powers. He left and never came back and that was the end of it. As for how Magic Tools end up in pirates’ hands, they sold inferior ones off as they wanted to get funds to mass produce better ones in the future. Mogamett doesn’t care about Goi because his mission is to protect just magicians. That is why he is asking Aladdin for his help.

Soon Mogamett declares to his magicians that Magnostadt will go to war with Reim. His fellow magicians feel the same to stand and fight to protect their family. Titus gets emo again because he feels all this is his fault. Plus, he knows Reim is undefeatable since they have 3 Metal Vessel users handpicked by Scheherazade: Reim’s current emperor’s son Nerva Julius Caluades, Reim’s supreme commander Ignatius Alexius and Muu who is the captain of the Fanalis Corps (a bunch of circus freaks?). News of Soon Magnostadt’s war declaration reaches other empires like Sindria. The ordinary people are panicking and some magicians are having second thoughts on this suicide mission. Change of heart? Now they don’t want to fight this battle just because of Reim’s formidable army size? Titus has also defected to Magnostadt and is willing to face Scheherazade. He is acting arrogant before Aladdin. And then emo again… Till Aladdin explains his love for this world, fun times, sad times, blah, blah, blah. But he would still rather not go to war with them as they are not their true enemy. He believes the source might be lying somewhere here. Mogamett rallies his magician while the ships carrying the Fanalis Corps, Alibaba is onboard one of them! Look at the battle scars he has… He can’t wait to see Aladdin. Oh, I bet you do.

Episode 18
Scheherazade announces that Titus has been taken hostage, which is amounting to declaration of war. She gives Magnostadt one last chance to surrender. No reply. Suit yourself. Mogamett has put up 3 strong barriers around the country. The Reim soldiers try to break through but here the magicians are unleashing their magic of carnivorous plants, moving earth and even acid rain. Makes you wonder why Magnostadt needs those bunch of soldiers who are so low in morale. Scheherazade isn’t panicking yet. An army of air balloons drop high intensity bombs over the barrier. It is not made by magic but via science and research. Scheherazade wanted the people of Reim to stand up on its own, the reason they do not use Metal Vessels or magic. That’s why the people should be proud of themselves. You scared now, Mogamett? Scheherazade adds that humans don’t need magicians and can go on living on their own. They might have erred and chosen the wrong path in the past but as long as they can move forward and learn from their mistakes, all of that doesn’t matter. What Mogamett has done is that when he leaves everything to the magicians, he makes the others forfeit their ability to fight for themselves and rely heavily on them. The first barrier is broken and this lifts the Reim soldiers’ spirits to march forward. See all those Magnostadt soldiers running away? Lots of magicians are injured and this induces Sphintus to join the battle. Mogamett hasn’t lost yet. He unleashes a powerful Magoi powered cannon that wipes out an entire platoon! It’s like a massacre! But here comes the Fanalis Corps. What took them so long? They enter the battlefield and beat up all the cowardly Magnostadt soldiers. They’re loving it, going wild and all out. The cannon needs time to power up. Because it is sucking Magoi out of the 5th district. Sucking more will kill everyone. They don’t have to because Aladdin destroys the Magoi pipelines. He is going to stop this war. Muu finds Titus and persuades him to come back. He won’t as he has people who are dear to him he can protect. However Muu forces him to look at reality. The way he is constructed, he is not fated to live that kind of life. That is all it takes to bring Titus down on his knees. Aladdin begs to differ. No matter what he is or how different he is, it doesn’t matter to him. He is his friend. Now they should put this aside and think how to stop this war.

Episode 19
Aladdin removes his Magic Tool. His Magoi isn’t restored immediately and needs time so he tries to tell Muu to relay his message to Scheherazade to stop this or else Magnostadt’s mentality won’t change. Nobody tells Scheherazade what to do. I guess that’s that. Muu orders his Fanalis to tear down the second barrier. The Fanalis easily destroy the magician’s personal barrier and beat them down. No challenge. Aladdin suggests firing randomly till the ground gives in. Then the underground river sweeps them away. Fanalis can swim. So? The magicians shock them with electricity! Only Muu, Lolo and Myron are left so they’re going to take them all down in a single blow by using their Metal Vessel. They should have fired this black stuff from the start because the magicians don’t stand a chance. Once Myers is down, they focus on destroying the second barrier. Hadouken! It’s cracking when a large hand sweeps them away. It is Aladdin. His Rukhs have returned as he summons giant golems in the form of Ugo. Because all the Rukhs are returning to him in big droves, everyone is flabbergasted at this amazing sight. Besides, too much Rukhs that Aladdin’s body is having a hard time containing them all. Scheherazade and Mogamett believe Aladdin to be a true Magi. Aladdin wants everyone to put their minds and hearts together because Magnostadt cannot become one with the world if their hearts are consumed with hatred. Aladdin easily deflects Muu’s attack without effort and sends a warning fire shot that can be seen past the coast. He believes he can end this war without a single loss of life. First, he tells Mogamett they are going to protect this country one more time. Then he advances his golems. The Reim soldiers are scared but Muu rallies them to advance. As they do, Aladdin turns the golems into giant wave of sand that sweeps away the enemies back to the shore. Back to square one. At this point, the barriers have been restored and Aladdin tells them they can advance again but each time, he’ll do this and push them back once more. Aladdin’s goal is to crush the soldiers’ spirit. After having journeyed so long and just before they reach their destination, they are pushed back to the start. It is demoralizing. Even more demoralizing that they know they can try as many times they want but it will end with the same result. He tells Reim to go back to their country and please don’t take away Magnostadt from the people who hold it dear, a place where they could belong.

Episode 20
Muu uses Djinn Equip to become Barbatos. He cannot last long in this form so when he pierces through everything, he wants the army to advance. He goes to face the biggest threat: Aladdin. He would have died had not his Djinn Equip being neutralized by Alibaba! His Metal Vessel of Amon did the trick. This act condemns him to be a traitor of Reim but he is not going to stand there and watch his friend die. Scheherazade surprises everyone by appearing in the flesh. After hearing Aladdin’s brief mission of trying to prevent something tragic, she believes he is seeing the same vision as Yunan and has her troops retreat. Then she personally talks to Aladdin, Alibaba and Titus. At first she smiles and is amused by the sight of Alibaba and Aladdin’s friendly jabs at each other. On to serious stuff, she reveals that Scheherazade is just like Titus. They are just clones and a part of Scheherazade’s original body. It lies somewhere nobody in Reim has ever seen. She is 268 years old! She asks what Mogamett is hiding and what Aladdin fears. He is afraid Mogamett might make Al-Thamen’s wish come true. With all that hatred, it is enough to give out black Rukhs, enough to trigger that tragic scene. He saw it during Balbadd when he achieved Solomon’s wisdom. In another world called Alma Torran, Al-Thamen brought about that great tragedy via a single war. But before the war ended and everything perished, King Solomon who is also a great magician guided the survivors to a new world he created. This is the world they are living now. Some cannot accept this and Al-Thamen’s wish is to eliminate this new world and recreate it as a world of chaos. And the power needed to complete this is the Dark Spot, a hole in the world created by vast quantities of Magoi and black Rukh. He never told it to anyone since he doesn’t want them to worry. It sounds like a fairytale, right? But Alibaba is not too happy. Because Aladdin was the one who told him they should think together when feeling such. No matter how crazy it sounds, he will still find a way and think it through with him like how he did for him. Scheherazade gives permission for Titus to stay with his friends. She feels the same way about them as the first person she chose. Because of that, she grew to love Reim and treated it like her own child. She apologizes and suddenly Titus felt bad for his thoughts of her all along. They don’t have much longer to live as the original Scheherazade’s body cannot last longer anymore. The most a month. So go spend those last days with your loved ones and when it’s time, they’ll return to the Rukh. Just as she declares the war over, here comes this message that Kou is on the move. Just great. And Mogamett doesn’t care. With 200 over magicians dead in this war, he’ll dispose Kou and Reim.

Episode 21
Mogamett heads deep into the 5th district. The people are begging him to go easy on taking their Magoi and also plead to save them. However he blows his top when a little girl touches him. Hitting her away and screaming from the top of his voice that he only wants to save magicians. Goi like them can die for all he cares. At the bottom of the hole are some hideous beasts in the furnace. From what I understand, he is going to accelerate he black Rukhs and awaken black djinns. He knows he must fall into depravity to manipulate them and his body will shrivel and die after that. His grudge will forever wander. I guess his hatred is big enough to make him do it. What a big change from his ideal when he wanted to save mankind. And now it’s just magicians. A huge swarm of black Rukhs throng the skies. Aladdin and Alibaba see this and head over. Aladdin mentions Mogamett has been creating black djinns from the Magoi via Al-Thamen’s help. This is the abnormalities of the world triggered by Magnostadt. However the black djinns are not targeting them. They head in the other direction where Kou is. Kouha is leading the charge when the black djinns wipe out most of his army in a single swoop! Kouha transforms into his Djinn Equip form but there is so much he can do as the black djinns can regenerate. As long as Mogamett can become the source and create more black Rukhs, they can regenerate. Kouha uses all his strength to hold the might of the black djinns trying to crush him. One of his retainers, Meihou remembers how the djinn, Lerage chose him although she didn’t have high hopes of him becoming the king of the world. Although Kouha has been accepting outcasts and failed characters into his family, he allows them to live as they are and even vows to take care of them till they are free to live on their own. To him, Kouha will always be his master. Enough of Kouha. Time for Alibaba to show us what he’s got. Here he is, fully mastered his Djinn Equip and with Amon in hand, he easily cuts down all the black djinns. There’s more from where that came from. He is going to show his ultimate move when the black djinns are easily destroyed by another giant familiar. It is Kouen and his subordinates leading the attack and bringing much relief to the Kou army. So much for your flashy debut, Alibaba.

Episode 22
The subordinates easily destroy the black djinns. Impressive. Kouen heals Kouha and has all the troops retreat. Alibaba introduces himself and cooks up a story he was here to protect Kouha. Since Kouen acknowledges and thanks him, the army can’t lay a finger on Alibaba. But the black djinns are back. More than ever. Mogamett is also sending more out to destroy the Reim army. Scheherazade will use her last ounce of power to put up a barrier while the Fanalis Corps take them down. How long can they do this? Meanwhile it may seem like Titus is selfishly spending his last times with Marga. You can’t blame him for his short lifespan. But Marga is happy to be with him and since she wants him to take her along, he brings her down to the furnace. Confronting Mogamett, Titus tries to reason with him that he treasures and loves everything. Mogamett is still a stubborn old man and believes Goi are useless and ungrateful. He tried to help them but was disappointed. You know that same ol’ story. Titus tells him it is not Goi that he hates but his fate. This is the truth. He hated his own fate for not being able to live his life close to and on equal terms with his loved ones. He will save him from this place and in turn nobody will have to fight and thus lives will be saved. Titus is able to deflect a huge amount of black Rukhs as his body contains a large amount of Magoi that Scheherazade has bestowed him for the last 14 years. Once Titus turns into all bones, all the black djinns disappear. Mogamett believes the furnace doesn’t need him anymore but it seems it has a mind of its own. It starts absorbing all his Magoi till he turns into another bag of bones. A huge black ball emerges from the ground and another one with tentacles from the sky. Al-Thamen watching this wonders whose Magoi the furnace used since the people of 5th district still lives. Gyokuen thinks Magnostadt has been secretly hoarding enough Magoi for this. Al-Thamen wonders if this is due to her guidance. On the contrary, the people of this world who chose to defy the great flow made this happen on their own volition. Finally, she and Al-Thamen can meet with their father.

Episode 23
Aladdin tells Kouen to pull back his troops or everyone will die. Will he believe? Aladdin summons out all the djinns to say it from their mouths. A hole has opened up in the sky and once it touches anything, it destroys everything. The only way is to destroy the medium. The incarnation of evil, Il Illah is a high ranking entity from another dimension. The power spot that is to bring down is called the medium. Yeah. That big giant ugly ball containing all the black Rukhs. Kouen learns that Aladdin is a Magi, Solomon reincarnated. And because he heard about the other world, he forces Aladdin to spill the beans. Aladdin is even sacred of a guy like him so he makes him a deal that if they stop this, he will tell the secrets of the world. Well, he might regret that even if this is an emergency. Kouen calls all his other siblings over right now. He is going to lend Aladdin all the power of Kou’s Metal Vessels in exchange for all that knowledge he has hunger for. That scary determined look. Told you Aladdin will regret it. Black djinns start stomping people and crushing buildings in Magnostadt. Scheherazade can only do so much. The Kou siblings strut their stuff as they take down the menacing black djinns. It might seem the medium is spitting them out endlessly but Aladdin believes it is a living thing and as such draws its source of magic from Rukhs. In other words, if they keep assaulting it until the medium exhausts its supply. How long will that be? Kill about 10,000 black djinns. Holy sh*t! Even Energizer battery can’t last that long! Don’t worry. That’s why you have Kouen. He strikes every one of them like as though it’s child’s play. Then he digs out the earth to bring forth lava to replenish and charge up his power to the max before slashing them all with his fire power. In short, he kicks ass! Don’t mess this guy. All because of the knowledge he wants to get. Oh Aladdin. You’re really regretting this, aren’t you? I’m sure he can kill all of them but this is going to take time and time he doesn’t have. So he forces Alibaba to charge up some fire power of his to attack. His little pea shooter isn’t working. However this is part of his plan to enhance his flames since they are using the same extreme magic. It amplifies and intensifies many times fold. So you ready to cut down this giant black ball now?

Episode 24
Well, bad news. It’s not working either. Before Kouen and Alibaba can replenish their power, the medium absorbs all the Rukhs from the lava and turns into some humanoid form. Anything its hand touches, it turns into dust and nothingness. Kouen and Alibaba’s continued attacks bear no effect. Their skins are even ripped off! Don’t worry. Got some healing magic. Kougyoku gets mad seeing them hurt like this and unleashes her magic. Funny, the medium takes some damage. Aladdin realizes only its arms can create a defensive wall or take away Rukhs. So attack him elsewhere. The other Kou siblings combine their might to finish it off. Okay, not over yet. In fact, it becomes much bigger and stronger since it can absorb Rukhs from about anything. The counter attacks are nothing but futile. The medium packs a punch when it fights back. Gyokuen recognizes Aladdin as the Magi who appeared in the sacred palace and obtained Solomon’s wisdom. She realizes Solomon created his own reincarnation in Alma Torran, had him sleep inside the sacred palace and sent him into this world to shatter their wish. Aladdin might not remember her but she knows him very well from the other world. She once served under Solomon as a Magi and then betrayed him. The medium is going to bring down that black udder in the sky. Suddenly a great explosion bombs the medium. Here comes Sinbad and his Seven Sea Alliance. All of them Metal Vessel users. They start bombarding the medium. Sinbad thanks a couple of people who grasped the situation quickly and then summoned and gathered them here. One of them being Yunan. Alibaba loses consciousness and falls but is caught by Morgiana. Hope you still remember her. She has powered up even more thanks to Yunan’s teachings. Sinbad mentions that he has no intentions to conquer or be conquered. Not even intervening in wars declared by nations. But if uninvited guests come into their world, he’ll not hesitate to eliminate all of them even if they are supreme beings called God.

Episode 25
More Metal Vessel users drop in to add to the devastation. But they’re running low on Magoi. Scheherazade uses her last ounce of life to replenish everyone’s Magoi. Then everyone altogether pulls off their extreme magic combo. Have they done it? No. Damn it. After all that awesome magic firepower and it did nothing? What a waste. Yunan notices the medium is hesitating. More like the person who became the medium’s core is hesitating. Aladdin knows that person is Mogamett. Their attack has weakened the medium and Mogamett is trying to keep it at bay as he hasn’t totally fall into depravity yet. Aladdin and Yamraiha go inside to see Mogamett’s Rukh. They see him sitting in a cage and the reason why he has come to his senses is because of Titus’ Rukh by his side. He has realized his selfish reasons that caused the deaths of both innocent magicians and non-magicians alike. Aladdin also apologizes for saying harsh things but Mogamett can’t go back now. There are so many black Rukhs here, people who have fallen into depravity caused by him. He can’t leave them. Such people who died cannot return to the white Rukh and reunite with their loved ones. Not even a Magi can save them. That is why Mogamett wants a favour of Aladdin. Find a way to return the black Rukh to the flow of the white Rukh. Mogamett is also happy to see Yamraiha and reveals her ancestry that she was a descendant of a family that serves the Mustasim royalty. He kidnapped her and kept it a secret in fear she would find out and run away. Yamraiha gets all emotional, she was happy being with him, she was able to find the warmth because of him, she was able to go on because of him, etc. She wanted to tell him sorry and all that too but it’s time to go. He wants Aladdin to pass his last message to the people of Magnostadt. A being that surpasses everyone doesn’t exist anywhere. No matter how strong you are than others, one cannot live life without making mistakes. Aladdin is sad that Titus had to die. But it seems his Rukh (or rather Scheherazade returns to some place where Ugo’s head is sitting).

The medium explodes and dark skies become bright again. The world lives! Yamraiha couldn’t stop crying when she wakes up. But now that this worldly threat is over, another one looms. There is a standoff between Kouen and Sinbad’s side! Kouen says despite their switch in enemy, their original objective of Magnostadt still stands. Yunan reminds Sinbad what they had talked about so Sinbad announces Sindria has formed an alliance with Reim. This was Scheherazade’s last wish. Moreover, since Mogamett is like the adoptive father of his subordinate Yamraiha, he will spare no effort in rebuilding Magnostadt. The Kou side is in uproar thinking he has been planning for this all along and to plunder Magnostadt. In that case, Kouen will claim Aladdin as his own. Gyokuen isn’t unfazed with this failure because Scheherazade has died and they will be able to gouge a hole in this world again. Once the next Dark Spot is completed, they can repeat the process and rejoin with father once more. But Al-Thamen’s priests caution her since Scheherazade’s soul has returned to that place and Solomon might drop the Rukh of a Magi on Reim again. There is a possibility that a clone compatible with Scheherazade’s Rukh still exists in Reim. Speaking of which, there is one… And Ugo allows Titus’ Rukh to be reborn in it. When Marga wakes up, she is asking for Titus. The rest haven’t got the heart to tell her. Suddenly one of Muu’s men rushes in to report the arrival of someone. It is Titus! Looks like a mix of his former self and Scheherazade. A new Magi? He looks a bit in a daze and his memories a bit hazy. Marga is glad she is able to reunite with him. Judal and Hakuryuu have watched enough and leave. Hakuryuu apologizes for turning his back on his friends. It ends with Alibaba, Aladdin and Morgiana happily reunited.

From World War M To Armageddon
And yet another adventure ends but of course not quite yet the end of everything. This season has been interesting in its own right with the advancement in the story as well as the introduction of tons of characters so it will be great to see another season. From the looks of it, it is still going to be a long journey so I doubt another season will do justice in bringing a conclusion to everything as the manga is still ongoing. But as far as this season is concerned, it lived up to my expectations (most of them anyway) and doesn’t disappoint. At least for the second half. The first half I thought it was a bit slow because we see the main characters parting and their journey of their respective path. But once we get to Aladdin and Magnostadt’s arc and the beginning of the big war, that’s where the pace starts moving.

With this second season, many of the characters who appeared in the first are relegated to the point that we might even forget that they exist. Of course it is because the focus now is on Magnostadt and it might seem that the many new characters in this season may have like ‘overwrite’ the older ones. Like Morgiana who only at most had one episode focus on her and after that she was missing for the rest of the second half only to show up late so that we wouldn’t end the season without forgetting about this ex-slave chick. It is the same case with Sinbad. He started out with an appearance in this season (since of course that is where we were last left off in the previous) and then right at the penultimate, here he comes to save the day. I guess that is why he is such a cool guy. So cool that he will be getting his own OVA episodes. Yeah. That. Even Kogyouku and Hakuei’s appearance in the final battle feels that they need to show us that they can still kick ass. Then there is Hakuryuu who has seemingly turned to the dark side or something and Judal didn’t quite make his presence felt in this season compared to the last. I almost forgot Ugo existed till Aladdin conjured his golems in his image. I never expected him to show up in the final episode so I guess his final words to Aladdin in the last season rang true. It was the last time they had seen each other.

As for the many new characters, they breathe new life and advancement to the overall story. It is both a good and bad thing. Good because new things always bring in new excitement, right? Bad because now there are too many characters to take into account and remember. The first season already had its fair share of number of characters and now with the second season and another set of characters, this means more contribution to the plot and everything. Oh boy. A dumb guy like me is going to have a hard time keeping track of them. I am starting to forget the names of some of Sinbad’s Eight Generals. Oh wait. Did I remember some of them in the first place? So as far as this season is concerned, many of the new characters are interesting in their own ways. You will love some of them and you will loathe others. Like I suppose Titus isn’t such a bad guy himself so in order not to make his sacrifice in vain so they resurrect him to be another Magi (and not break a little girl’s heart). Kouen is such a badass (in a good way) and you can tell he is the right person to lead the Kou Empire. Gyokuen will prove to be a menacing villain and from what I can see, she won’t be an easy pushover and will serve as a formidable antagonist.

Now that they are going all out with the different kind of magic spells and everything, hearing them now somewhat feels overwhelming. In a way it feels like a turn off to me. I am sure that reciting such ‘weird’ spell names means being ‘rewarded’ by casting an awesome and superb magic that really packs a punch. Unlike last season, this time around I can’t be bothered to remember them. Not even one. And I think I have forgotten all that are said in the first season. So if they say the same spells over and over again, I might not be able to identify it was that same spell they recite. Perhaps only by the visual awesomeness of it. Not by name.

The action parts still do not disappoint although they turned the half of the last episode into some emotional sobbing parting drama after all that fighting and magic explosions. I just can’t help snicker each time they unleash such powerful magic. So powerful that you think there is nothing else more powerful that can best this and suddenly somebody better unleashes another much more powerful one. Practically you can tell it is so because the explosions and blasts are on a magnanimous scale. Who needs an atom bomb when all you need is just a Metal Vessel and recite the right spell. Oh, you need to be a powerful and strong person yourself. On second thought, an atom bomb sounds easier to make… But to these guys who are just oozing with Magoi and magic, you don’t need such A-bomb in your arsenal.

Although the art and drawing remain constant with the first season, I can’t help find that some of the characters look closely to each other. For example, when I first laid eyes on Titus, I can’t help wonder what on Earth was Alibaba doing in Magnostadt. Yes. I thought that blonde guy was him. And then when they introduced Sphintus, I also thought what the hell was one of Sinbad’s Eight Generals, Sharkkan doing learning magic in this place. And yeah, young Mogamett has this very uncanny resemblance to Sinbad. Another striking resemblance between Marga and Sana too… Is it me or is it that Toto and Myron look almost alike? Or Scheherazade looks like a sleepy version of Pisti and have longer flowing hair? I know. Too many characters that I think I can’t start to differentiate them. Of course the Kou siblings are related so there is a good reason why they look closely alike. Oh, Hakuryuu has levelled up into a badass that I think he looks like Judal’s twin. I guess this is what happens when you become a disciple under someone like him.

The seiyuus of the first season are retained. And with lots of new characters, this calls for lots of new set of casts. Yeah. It is going to be bloated. The new ones include Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Titus (Sora in No Game No Life), Ryota Ohsaka as Sphintus (Haruto in Valvrave The Liberator), Cho as Mogamett (Brook in One Piece),Yuuichi Nakamura as Kouen (Tomoya in Clannad), Hino Satoshi as Koumei (Takagi in Bakuman), Tetsuya Kakihar as Kouha (Natsu in Fairy Tail), Maaya Sakamoto as Scheherazade (Ciel in Kuroshitsuji), Akira Ishida as Yunan (Gaara in Naruto), Miyano Mamoru as Muu (Light Yagami/Kira in Death Note), Kana Asumi as Toto (titular character in Haiyore! Nayruko-san), Masashi Ebara as Shambal (Might Guy in Naruto), Kikuko Inoue as Myers (Belldandy in Aa! Megami-sama), Aya Suzuki as Marga (Ritz in Kenzen Robo Daimidaler), Miki Itou as Gyokuen (Fujimura in Fate/Stay Night), Aya Hisakawa as Madaura (Maya in Tenjou Tenge) and Shindou Kei as Olba (Hazuki in Galilei Donna).

The first opening theme, Anniversary by SID sounds like a generic anime rock pop but somehow I prefer the second opening them, Eden by Aqua Timez. Although this season doesn’t have a children choir-like song, the first ending theme, Hikari by Vivid sounds more like a slow pop ballad. Hearing the second ending theme, With You/With Me sounds a little familiar because it is sung by 9nine as this piece sounds somewhat familiar to their only other piece I heard in one of Beelzebub’s ending theme, Shoujo Traveler. Not bad actually this song.

In the end, there is this satisfying but yet unsatisfying feel to this season because so much has been developed and progressed but yet it feels it is nowhere near any conclusion or halfway mark. So many good potentials and materials that it would be a big disappointment if another season wasn’t given the green light. So now I know why certain stories and chronicles really take up so many chapters and volumes that could be as thick as Encyclopaedia Britannica. Despite all that, this anime is still a good and entertaining watch if you like some Arabian style adventure, magic, adventure and some bits of comedy. Don’t forget the main theme of good versus evil too. Too bad there is no genie lamp for me to make a wish for another season because praying to God in this context seems less effective, if you know what I mean ;p.

Arabian Niiiiiiights. Like Arabian Daaaaaaays. Yeah well. Leave it to anime to turn the Arabian stories into anime adaptation. And thus we have Magi: The Magic Of Labyrinth based on the Arabian theme and adventures. You’re going to hear familiar characters from such stories but don’t think of it as one giant mish-mash of characters in some twisted messed up story. Nothing like Shrek or even Ookami-san to Shichinin No Nakama-tachi. We’ve got a good mix of action, adventure, fantasy and a little bit of comedy in this series. Story wise it may offer nothing new because it is mainly about a boy who finds himself being thrown into fate as he takes up the responsibility of becoming a hero, a typical eternal battle of good versus evil conflict just to keep the world balance in check. And yeah. What are such stories without magic too?

Episode 1
Aladdin talks to giant blue genie, Ugo. He wants to know about himself. Ugo can grant him a single wish and turn it into reality. In the city of Qishan, Alibaba works as a cart driver and is appalled to see Aladdin eating up his watermelons which are supposed to be delivered, like nobody’s business. Who is going to pay for it? Imagine if his fat boss, Budel finds out. Oops. Too late. What’s more, Aladdin can even fondle Budel’s man boobs! WTF?! Alibaba isn’t pleased that Aladdin starts staying with him. He tells the kid of his dream to conquer a Dungeon. Mysterious historical structures that started appearing all over the world 14 years ago and those who conquer it are promised riches and wealth for life. Well, so far those who have ventured in never returned out alive. They bump into slave girl, Morgiana who accidentally dropped her basket of lemons she is delivering. Aladdin didn’t care about that slave explanation and frees her shackles via his golden flute. Morgiana is a slave who belongs to Budel and he warns the crime of freeing one. If Alibaba can’t pay his share back, he will have to by becoming a slave. And a slave’s life is hard. Aladdin isn’t paying attention to what this fat ass is saying and wants him to stop mistreating Morgiana. Because Budel threatens his guards to kill him, Aladdin blows his flute and a pair of giant hands emerges to smack them! Before the commotion gets out of hand, Alibaba takes him and run. He realizes the flute is a legendary djinn vessel and Aladdin might be his ticket to clear a Dungeon. So Alibaba tries to be friendly and persuade Aladdin to come on an adventure with him. He can enjoy food and women all he wants if they clear a Dungeon. I guess the kid has some spare time and agrees to go with him. Budel isn’t pleased to see them having fun and if they have this much time to frolic around, might as well pay him back. Alibaba asserts he is going to clear a Dungeon and pay him back in full. However Budel laughs it off and gives him a choice. Get arrested now to work as his slave for life or deliver the finest grape wine of Qishan’s Lord Jamil to a neighbouring city. What will it be? Isn’t it obvious?

And so Alibaba has to put his Dungeon adventure on hold as he reluctantly drives the cart of fine wines out of Qishan. Accompanying them is a group of slaves to be sold including Morgiana. While Budel is stuffing himself, he badmouths the slaves but Alibaba has no choice but to hold his anger in. Aladdin knows Alibaba is putting a fake façade and tells him if he keeps lying, eventually he himself won’t trust his own words. Along the way, the desert ground starts to cave in because of a desert hyacinth attack. The caravan containing the slaves is hanging on the ledge and a little girl, Mina is hanging on for her life via Morgiana’s hand. Alibaba tries to save her but Budel is more interested to save his wines. Because of that, Mina and Morgiana fall into the pit and are going to be devoured. Alibaba couldn’t stand this anymore and punches Budel. He dives down to try and save them. Aladdin seeing this, summons Ugo from his flute (just lacking a head?) to keep the hyacinth’s mouth open. Alibaba is able to pull out the girls but gets trapped himself. Aladdin turns his turban into a magic carpet to throw all the wine into the hyacinth, making it drunk and thus easier to save Alibaba. Aladdin is amazed by Alibaba’s bravery and wants him to teach him about things that money and wine can’t buy. Minna is tearfully reunited with her mother and Aladdin has one request of Alibaba: Be his friend. This is the same request he told Ugo. They fly away on a magic carpet to go on an adventure, leaving Budel to rue his losses.

Episode 2
Alibaba and Aladdin are standing before a Dungeon’s entrance, right smack in the middle of Qishan. This is it. Once you step in, there’s no turning back. Because Aladdin was dozing off, he pushed them into the entrance. Now there’s no turning back. When they wake up somewhere inside, they have to be quick on their feet or else the flames would have burnt them alive in a few seconds as they were lying in oil. Meanwhile, Jamil prepares to enter the Dungeon and has brought all his slaves. Aladdin and Alibaba by the skin of their teeth manage to dodge danger after danger. Aladdin is hungry because he has used too much power to summon Ugo. That’s why he’s a glutton. Just great. Now they have to fend off giant green ants. When it combines to become some alien monster, Aladdin uses all his strength left to summon Ugo for a big monster battle. They are victorious but it leaves Aladdin very tired and unconscious. As Aladdin rests alongside him, he is shocked to see Jamil has found them. He and his slaves, Morgiana and Goltas. Jamil ignores him while claiming he has found Aladdin the Magi after these long years. Since Alibaba is annoying, Jamil orders Goltas to kill him but Alibaba is able to dodge. For that failure, Jamil abuses this Jason-like guy. Jamil offers Alibaba to work for him. He brought tons of slaves but all of them died and left these 2 due to the traps. When they arrive at a fire puzzle, Alibaba uses his knowledge to translate an ancient Toran language to pass it. However as he switches off the flames to let the rest pass, he gets burnt.

When Aladdin wakes up, he wonders where his friend is so Jamil explains he died and introduces his slaves: Goltas the big and powerful but unable to speak and Morgiana who has powerful legs and hails from a hunter tribe of a Dark Continent. As Jamil takes Goltas forward, he orders Morgiana to watch Aladdin. Aladdin tries funny faces to make her laugh and succeeds in one. He thinks she is pretty when she smiles but wonders if it is because she is from that continent that makes her unable to do so. She describes her beautiful homeland and Aladdin expresses his intention to visit it. However she can’t take him there because she is a slave. Aladdin can cut her shackles again but she reminds him Jamil is a very scary person. He has more chains around you than you think. Alibaba surprises them when he is still alive. At the same time, Jamil runs back like a coward to plead for Aladdin to use his magic and take care of the monster in which Goltas is having his hands full. Alibaba explains how he tricked Jamil about the translation as it allowed him through some secret passage to find the right path. Alibaba and Aladdin fly away. Aladdin hopes they can see the sun together once Morgiana’s chains are broken. For that moment, she dreamt of being free but was ordered to rein the duo in. Using her powerful legs to jump, it is not enough to catch them. Her failure means more kicking abuse from Jamil. The duo are before a door that seemingly needs 2 people to open (because there are two right handprints). Pressing their palm on it, the scenery changes and it’s like they have an aerial view of Qishan although they are still technically in the Dungeon.

Episode 3
They don’t see anybody down below so Aladdin thinks this is Necropolis, outside the Room of Fortitude spreads Necropolis, the city of the dead. Entering the main room and wondering if this is the end, suddenly Goltas stumbles down dead. I suppose after all that stabbing from cruel Jamil finally killed him. Jamil blames everybody except himself. Jamil faces off with Alibaba and thinks his swordplay is superior. Think again. Alibaba easily overpowers him. Even so, Jamil cheats by having Morgiana spring an attack on his behalf and to his rescue. Alibaba tries to persuade Morgiana to decide by herself. Rank and status mean nothing in the Dungeon and she can be free. She doesn’t listen and gives him a good kick. Jamil then wants Morgiana to kill him. She is not a killer so she starts hesitating in fear. Before she could plunge the sword, Aladdin’s magic breaks it. He wants back his flute which is in Jamil’s possession. Since he is doing this the hard way, Aladdin uses more magic to pin down Morgiana. Jamil is awed at his power and remembers the prophecy of what his ex-master once told him. He said Dungeons will shortly appear and in 10 years, a boy will also appear. Jamil gives back the flute and wonders if Aladdin is going to make him king as prophesized. It is the reason why he used people, laid down the rules and turned Qishan into a prosperous city. Aladdin doesn’t know what he is talking about but he knows he isn’t that great to be king.

A huge genie appears, Amon. Ugo materializes to explain the situation. I don’t know how he does it via body language since he lacks a head. Amon declares this Dungeon cleared by Alibaba and Aladdin. Although this is Amon and Aladdin’s first meeting, Amon knows of him a long time ago. Explaining that a Magi is someone who chooses the king. They are to test, guide and train that person and are also the beloved spirit of Solomon. Before he could finish explaining, the place starts crumbling. Amon senses someone trying to seal off this place so they better get out. Alibaba takes all the gold and riches he can. Morgiana is in a dilemma to stay by Jamil’s side. Goltas shocks everyone by getting up. Even more shocking, he speaks. He tells Morgiana to leave and return to her homeland. He can’t allow Jamil to leave this place and he himself has done lots of bad things. After cutting Morgiana’s shackles, Goltas takes Jamil to their death (Jamil reduced to a senile). Amon prepares to fly the survivors out as the Dungeon crumbles down to earth. Amon attaches himself to Alibaba’s knife. Judal, another Magi is the one responsible for crumbling this Dungeon. He is with Jamil’s ex-master. Alibaba plans of starting his own business in Sindria with his treasures. That country is where his hero Sinbad is. Before that, he plans to stop at Balbadd to take care of things. Alibaba thanks Aladdin for without his help, he couldn’t have cleared this Dungeon and views himself a coward. Aladdin disagrees. He never gets mad when people mocked him but when someone else’s life was made fun, he didn’t hesitate to risk his own to save others. Therefore he is a brave person. Aladdin thinks very highly of him so Alibaba wants to go on more adventures with him. At the end of the ride, the trio are dispersed. Only Alibaba is left sitting in the crater of where the Dungeon once sat. Everyone is impressed he cleared it.

Episode 4
Alibaba is living the luxurious life. He’s got everything he wanted. Even Budel is working under him (since all his debts are cleared). He gets a surprised visit from Morgiana who is grateful for freeing all the slaves. She will be leaving for her homeland too so Alibaba needs to decide quickly. He goes off to find Aladdin. Aladdin wakes up in a tent and next to him is Elder Baba of the Kouga tribe. Seems like him, she can see those glowing butterflies called Rukh. It is the home of the soul and where all living things that have passed shall return to. If the body returns to earth, the soul returns to Rukh. After meeting the other people of the clan, Aladdin learns he is very far from Qishan. About 2 years by foot! Or just 2 weeks by caravan. He wants to go back there as he made a promise with a friend. But for the time being, he stays here and is warmly welcomed. He learns this small clan treats each other as a big family. This makes Aladdin wonder why he doesn’t have one. He remembers he was told he is a singularity. Next day, the third daughter of the first Kou emperor, Hakuei Ren along with her consorts, Seishun Ri and Ryosai meet with Kouga clan to propose that their clan come under their empire because they want to unite the land. Of course they disagree since they have their own pride. Kouga’s Touya treats them to horse milk but Ryosai abuses her, not wanting to give lowly milk to their princess. He continues to impose himself and declare this clan is under their empire. Dolge is going to kill him but Seishun blocks his sword attack and warns killing this man means a declaration of war. Both sides step down for now. Back at the camp, Ryosai doesn’t understand why Hakuei let a perfect chance to rid Kouga slip. She is trying to think about their future and will come up with a plan.

Late that night, Aladdin visits Hakuei. If she plans to take over the village, he wants her to stop because it will make Baba sad. Hakuei promises no one will die and wants to unify the world where needless deaths are done away. Seeing her Rukh, Aladdin believes her. When he returns to the village, he sees a commotion. The Kouga guys are heading out in rage. Their women have been kidnapped. Baba warns them not to kill a single one of them or there will be war. Kouga’s excellent horse riding skills has them catching up in no time. But can Dolge hold back his anger not to kill Ryosai? At the same time, Aladdin talks to Baba about Magi. A long time ago when there were no countries and chaos was everywhere, a young man appeared before the people to come together under a king. His power is gained by overcoming the trials of a tower. Many tried but all failed to return. Till one successfully did and he became king. A country was formed and peace reigned. The people greatly respected that mysterious young man who gave them that prophecy and called him Magi. But right now Baba considers Aladdin as her child. Does he have any friends? Alibaba and Ugo. Then they are his friends. Aladdin says he has met Hakuei and assures there will be no war. The Kouga men return victorious in bringing back the women and did not kill a single Kou soldier. Baba declares they will surrender themselves to Kou. It isn’t about their clan or pride. Their lives are more important and no matter what happens, they must not choose war. Wage war in their hearts to live on as a family instead. Everyone sits around the campfire that night and when Baba goes to sit by herself, she is shot by an arrow.

Episode 5
While Baba is being treated, a Kou soldier reports that one of their soldiers have been attacked by an arrow believed to be from Kouga. Hakuei wants to head to Kouga to confirm and Ryosai wants her to leave the army in his hands in her absence. Of course this is part of Ryosai’s plan. He has set up everything and even Hakuei’s death. He loves war. The men of Kouga are filled with rage. They are prepared to go to war. Hakuei and Seishun are cornered in a valley. She wants to discuss but a Kouga man cuts her as warning. They are shock that she didn’t evade. It is proof she has no intention to attack and only wants to talk. Baba is strong enough to be on scene to tell off her men for such shameful action. And they call themselves Kouga. They must not lose sight of what is important. Baba kneels down and accepts their clan’s jurisdiction under Kou. Kouga holds in their pride and drops their weapons to bow before the princess. Alibaba notes he didn’t have to do anything. The people took their own initiative and courage to guarantee their future. But soon, Baba lies on her deathbed and her family are weeping. Aladdin could see Baba’s spirit nearby and talks to her. Now that she is in this form, she understands Aladdin better. Because Rukh is made up of souls, Aladdin is one loved by the Rukh and able to borrow its powers. He is Magi, one who guides and creates their world. That’s why he will never be alone and Baba will always be by his side.

When Hakuei returns, she sees Ryosai commanding the army. Although she mentions Kouga has come under them via peaceful negotiations, Ryosai believes his version of the story will go like this: Hakuei was brutally murdered by Kouga and Ryosai commanded the army to seek revenge and destroy them. Ryosai adds that if Hakuei had not been in the picture, he could’ve been chosen to lead this army. That sounds like plain jealousy, no? Seishun holds off the army to give Hakuei time to use her power (did she transform into some magical girl?). However there is a limit on to how much power she can use. Ryosai has no qualms in sacrificing his men so Hakuei had to save them, using up more of her powers. Ryosai is about to kill Hakuei when a big explosion wipes out most of the army. Ugo smacks Ryosai away. I think all his bones broke. Aladdin touches Hakuei’s fan, the source of her power. Out comes another blue genie Paimon. She has this penchant of poking Ugo’s nipples? Paimon doesn’t care about the world’ situation as Ugo explained because all she cares about is to support Hakuei as her king candidate who was chosen by the Magi of Kou Empire. Judal sees Hakuryuu, Hakuei’s brother and wants him to go clear a Dungeon to become emperor just like how his sister did. Aladdin learns a Magi’s duty is to choose a king and it seems he hasn’t yet but he has a person in mind. Paimon made her contract with Hakuei when she cleared the Dungeon. Before Aladdin parts with the Kouga people, he learns Goltas was from them (it is a common name among their people). They thank Aladdin for this coincidental meeting but he knows it wasn’t. Remembering Ugo once told him to travel the world to discover himself, on his journey he will meet many people and ultimately himself.

Episode 6
Morgiana joins a travelling caravan and is grateful to Leila and Sahsa for picking her up. Morgiana still has nightmares about being a slave (especially how Jamil abuses her even when he was a kid). The shackle marks on her feet are a grim reminder and aren’t wearing off any time soon. Their journey to Balbadd is put on hold because the only road to it is occupied by lawless bandits. The caravan leader wants to avoid taking that path because many of his caravan friends have lost their belongings and lives travelling there. Morgiana thinks if the bandits are wiped out, they can continue travelling. So she goes there by herself to tell them to leave. Big bad men don’t believe little girl. Wait till they get a taste of her kick. She beats them all up singlehandedly and an effeminate slave trader, Fatima is impressed. He knows she is from the powerful Fanalis tribe and wants her. He uses his eagle whose claws are laced with poison to scratch her skin and knock her out. When she wakes up, she finds herself in a cell along with a little girl, Nadja. Because she is wondering about their fate, she tells the truth that they will become slaves for the rest of their lives. Nadja starts crying and Morgiana feels bad. She too was once scared like her when she was sold off as a slave. Morgiana comforts her and promises to save her. Nadja comes down with fever so Morgiana seeks Fatima’s help for treatment. However Fatima is going to let Nadja be food for the hyenas. Lowly slaves don’t deserve any treatment.

Morgiana is devastated and she can’t break her shackles. Her fear that she can never be free compounded of trauma from Jamil made her weak. She sees a vision of Goltas. He is appalled this is the extent of her power since she can’t even break a pair of leg shackle. She should have already been freed and no longer a slave. There is nothing left tying her down except her fear and past. And those ‘chains’ are easily broken with a blade of courage. Because there is nothing in this world that can chain her down. Morgiana draws her strength and uses her superb leg power to break free. Her howling scares away the hyenas as she frees Nadja. Fatima releases giant white tigers but they too are no match for Morgiana’s speed and power! I think she’s on par with a Super Saiyan! She corners Fatima after all the beasts are defeated. She doesn’t kill him but wants keys to the slaves’ cell. She frees all the slaves and Nadja is reunited with her parents. Morgiana is surprised to see Aladdin among the slaves. A huge rock fell on the caravan he was travelling with and the next thing he knew, he is tied up here. The caravan leader along with his other caravan friends, as well as Leila and Sahsa are charging towards the area. They see Ugo wrecking havoc. But Sahsa knows this djinn is on their side. Seems Sahsa and Aladdin knew each other. They met right before Aladdin encountered Alibaba. Now that the path to Balbadd is free, Aladdin invites Morgiana to join him to travel together.

Episode 7
Sinbad reeks of alcohol and falls asleep. Due to his carelessness, he gets robed. Everything. His clothes, his jewellery. Because of that, you can’t blame Aladdin and Morgiana thinking they’ve met some flasher on their journey. He’s a pretty nice guy once you get to know him. Sinbad borrows Aladdin’s little clothes (it really looks out of place) and he points out over the hill is Balbadd. The kids are amazed at this flourishing city as Sinbad explains some of its history. Although there is some upheaval since the previous king’s death, Balbadd is still a safe place to be. He takes them back to his luxurious hotel where he is staying and will pay for their room but is stopped by the guards thinking he is some sort of weirdo. In that dress? Of course he would be mistaken. It took him his underlings, Jafar and Masrur to quell the misunderstanding. Jafar is not happy that he lost everything. Even the important tools that makes him the king of Sindria. Alibaba asks if there is a ship for Morgiana to the Dark Continent. She apologizes it is rare. Her explanation is similar as follows. At the same time Sinbad sees the Balbadd king, Ahbmad and wants to reopen trade with Sindria. However he declines. Because this city is usually covered in fog, a group of thieves called Fog Troupe equipped with strange magic has been appearing. Although they rob and cause chaos, they only take from the rich and then give to the poor. Chivalry thieves? They are popular among the people and considered as heroes. Riots and upheavals have gotten worse ever since a new guy took over the Fog Troupe’s helm: Alibaba. Aladdin thinks he couldn’t be his friend and just coincidence. Ahbmad still won’t reopen trade with Sindria and find his own solution so Sinbad will take out those thieves himself if that’s the case. However Ahbmad notes even if he is successful, he won’t reopen trade due to some order from Kou Empire. Besides, it will do them some good too with those thieves being rid of.

Later Sinbad properly introduces his introduces his underlings to Aladdin and Morgiana and mentions Masrur is also a Fanalis because they have the same eyes. Because Aladdin shows them Ugo, Sinbad is surprised he is a Magi. But Aladdin doesn’t know who he is. Doesn’t he recognize the guy who conquered 7 dungeons, its 7 djinns and the 7 seas? Apparently not. Ironically it is Sinbad who explains what a Magi is to that kid. Only a Magi can produce enough Magoi to summon a djinn for extended periods. Magoi is the energy produced by Rukh and can be used endlessly by a Magi. He invites them to capture Fog Troupe with him. They agree because Aladdin wants to see his friend again and Morgiana set sail back to Dark Continent. Due to sympathizers of Fog Troupe inside the government, Jafar has got his hands on some information on where Fog Troupe will strike next. Either the mansion of a wealthy merchant Aljaris or noble Haldhub. They wonder if they’re doing the right thing since the thieves are loved by the people so capturing them may not seem wise. Sinbad believes that they are just using what they deem chivalrous to justify their act. They split into groups to guard the mansions. Sinbad and Masrur encounter a group of poor slum people who are struggling and fighting for food. The arrogant merchant throws some food but Sinbad stops the woman who needs food for her baby badly. He tells everyone they don’t need to do this. Because nobles’ wealth come from their taxes, if they don’t like it they should take it back but don’t take their lives. They agree and leave. Masrur wonders if he is doing the right thing and he replies they only agreed to capture the Fog Troupe. A mysterious red mist is causing illusions for the guards over at Aladdin’s end. Zaynab’s Sword of Phantasmal Scarlet is responsible for that while Hassan uses his Sword Corroding Golden Fog to easily rip open a brick wall. Before the thieves could start stealing, Jafar restrains some of them with his strings but is restrained by Kassim’s Sword of Shackling Ebon Fog. Morgiana starts kicking but also meets the same fate. Aladdin summons Ugo when the bandit leader arrives. He unmasks himself and Aladdin is shocked to see Alibaba. It can’t be. Can it?

Episode 8
Aladdin is shocked he is really Alibaba. He wonders if he still remembers their promise about adventuring around the world. Alibaba apologizes he can’t keep that promise. With the guards coming in, Alibaba summons Amon to whisk them away. Kassim recruits a band of brother thieves (the ones who stole from Sinbad) but Alibaba warns them they are chivalrous thieves and if they steal for their own gains, they will die. When Alibaba returns to his chambers, he is surprised to see Morgiana. Because he won’t explain himself, she kidnaps him and takes him back to Alibaba. Jafar reports to Sinbad that Ahbmad has fallen under Kou’s influence since he married a Kou princess. Because Kou is enforcing their paper money in their territories, it is a reason Balbadd’s economy is now in a terrible state. Aladdin is depressed in his room when Morgiana throws Alibaba in. Morgiana forces him to explain himself because of his act, trade has stopped, the government has abandoned its people who in turn are being forced into slavery. Alibaba reveals Kassim is the real leader of the Fog Troupe. The flashback begins. Alibaba and Kassim were childhood friends and grew up in the slums. They were poor but had lots of fun together. Although Alibaba’s mother, Anise is a prostitute, she was kind. Unlike Kassim’s father who is abusive and a drunkard. One day he left the slums and Anise took Kassim and his sister Mariam in as her own children. Happy days didn’t last when Anise died of an illness. Kassim vowed to protect them all and the kids start working hard in the slums for survival. It was not long before Kassim mixed with bad company and resorted to thievery.

One day the kind visited the slums and claimed Kassim as his son and wants him to live in the palace. Anise was one of his maids. Alibaba told Kassim about this and thought he would stop him but was upset he was told to just go. They ended up fighting and Alibaba left for the palace. For 3 years, Alibaba lived the life of a royalty and has undergone harsh lessons. Till one night he snuck out from the palace to visit his old slums but is shocked to see it cleared for redevelopment. He met Kassim there and just like nostalgic old times, they go out for a drink and catch up. Little did he know this was the start of his nightmare. After several rounds of drinks, Kassim wanted to know how he got out of the palace since he was always ‘trapped’ like a bird in a cage. Alibaba reminded him of his childhood skill of digging tunnels. Alibaba is even happier when he was told Kassim’s cold act then was his way of looking out for him. He didn’t realize one of his men followed him back to the palace. Shortly, the king lies on his deathbed. He wants Alibaba to lead the country seeing Ahbmad is lazy and is easily influenced. Alibaba wanted to know his feelings for Anise. Despite they couldn’t be together, he loved her. Alibaba was happy. He then goes to see the commotion outside and is shocked to see Kassim and his men raiding the palace treasury. They came in via one of Alibaba’s tunnels. Alibaba was knocked out but was ordered not to be killed. He was then tied up and helplessly watched the palace burn to the ground. I think the king got a heart attack after seeing this.

Episode 9
Sinbad and Jafar eavesdrop from the next room as Alibaba continues his story. After learning the king died, he fled Balbadd and joined some military. He got fascinated with Dungeons and dreamt of conquering it for its riches. But it remained a dream till he met Aladdin. After their success, he returned to Balbadd only to see the slums decimated. He learnt things got worse after the previous king died and the formation of Fog Troupe led by Kassim. At first he thought he was the bad guy but soon realized the real villains are the government. Kassim showed him Mariam’s grave. A year after Alibaba left, she died of a disease. Because the government cut off the slums and left them without medicine of food, people started dying. After the epidemic, the government burnt down the slums to clean it. Kassim is sad he couldn’t do anything and he formed Fog Troupe to fight back. He knows he’ll get caught one day but what choice does he have? That’s when he invited Alibaba to join and become their leader. Aladdin felt a strange nostalgia with this. Something that reminds him of Kouga. Alibaba’s plan is to swiftly take action to gain the people’s support and in time will reveal his true identity to Ahbmad. Aladdin cautions him if his plan doesn’t work, the result will be very sad. Alibaba breaks down not knowing what he should do. Aladdin says that’s why they are here to help him come up with a way. They are his friends too. Kassim and his men break into the hotel to rescue Alibaba. Alibaba didn’t hear of a raid on this place when Kassim mentions they’ve got info that Sinbad is here. His men are tackling him but they are no match especially when Masrur starts displaying his strength. When everyone is at the rooftop, Kassim uses his sword to tie down Sinbad but he easily breaks his weak magic. But Sinbad wants to settle things with Alibaba. He tells him that the Fog Troupe is doomed and death likely awaits them. But Alibaba is different since he is a prince unlike these people from the slums. Alibaba didn’t like the way he badmouths them as he considers them his family. He doesn’t care if Sinbad is some guy he respected and will fight him. He summons Amon and starts slashing away. Sinbad analyzes his moves and easily knocks him out since he doesn’t know how to control his djinn yet.

Sinbad shocks everyone that he wants to join Fog Troupe. Wasn’t he supposed to capture them? After listening to such a tragic story, he can’t help feel support them. He feels it is better to lend his strength to people desperately fighting for the slums than a stupid king. Alibaba is unsure so Sinbad tells his other reason to join. He wants to stop the abnormalities happening around the world. As king of Sindria, he is concerned of the increasing number of wars and chaos happening. Kassim badmouths him that he doesn’t know what it’s like for people of the slums. Jafar could have beaten him up for showing disrespect of not knowing the sacrifices Sinbad made but Sinbad doesn’t want his subject to dirty his hand. He is fine with it. With that, Sinbad joins them. He knows Alibaba has already gained the people’s support. As an old friend of the late king, he can see the royalty resemblance in him. As of such, being a prince he carries a heavy responsibility. Next day, there is note all over Balbadd asking people who are discontent to gather outside the palace. The note reveals Alibaba as the leader of Fog Troupe. A large crowd gathers and it shows the support Alibaba has. Alibaba seeks an audience with Ahbmad and will agree to disband Fog Troupe if he promises to protect the people. However arrogant Ahbmad won’t listen and thinks a person from the slums has no right to tell him what to do. If not for Sinbad’s protection, he could have ordered off with his head. Alibaba becomes angry when Ahbmad badmouths his own people. Ahbmad notices the Banker has returned. Wasn’t he Jamil’s ex-master? Outside in the crowd, Aladdin notices dark Rukhs when Judal walks pass by him.

Episode 10
Markkio the Banker greets Sinbad and he is the financial advisor for Balbadd. Sinbad realizes Judal is has become the priest for Kou. Ahbmad ends his audience with Sinbad and Alibaba and says trading with Sindria is impossible since he has hand over trading rights to Kou. He continues to not care for his people. Alibaba is depressed that negotiations have failed but Aladdin knows his speech has touched the hearts of many. Sinbad and Alibaba soon announce their failed negotiations to the people (Kassim and his men have left). Sinbad says they have nothing to be ashamed of because they fought fair and square for once. He reminds them their reason to fight and it is to escape poverty. If this country will not accept them, he will accept them into his and will lend his power. Judal drops by not as Ahbmad or Kou’s representative. He couldn’t care less about all that. He just loves war and wants to fight. He wants Sinbad to join him to take over the world. Judal notices Aladdin and is surprised there is another Magi besides him. Judal insults Aladdin by pulling a fake punch. Then he searches for his king candidate and again is surprised to learn it is Alibaba. When he starts mocking Alibaba for being pathetic in front of Ahbmad, Aladdin stands up for him and views him as a hero. Judal blasts away Alibaba with his little wand to prove he is a weakling. Aladdin gets ready to defend his friends so Judal takes this is a sign to fight and tells all the humans to say out in the fight between Magis. Sinbad can’t intervene too because he lacks any Metal Vessel. Because their Rukhs negate each other, Judal suggests fighting using magic. As Magoi is pure power created from Rukhs, they are not very strong in that form. But if a command is given, they can become powerful magic. Judal summons his lightning magic but Aladdin is protected by Ugo. Judal is getting fascinated by the minute. He now uses multiple magic like floating and ice summoning to rain icicles down on everyone. Judal is cocky and underestimates Ugo’s brute strength. Ugo uses his body to protect Aladdin from being impaled by icicles. Aladdin gives some of his strength to Ugo but Magoi is leaking out fast. Aladdin cannot understand why they’re fighting. Judal feels he is so full of power, he doesn’t know what to do with it. Every day is just hell of a boring. He rarely gets chances like this and wants to continue fighting him. Judal is distracted by Morgiana and Alibaba’s attack before being smashed around by Ugo the Incredible Hulk. Ugo will not listen to Aladdin and continues pounding Judal like paper. Judal is mad that the djinn is cheating because Ugo has not been receiving Magoi from Aladdin and yet he moves around so much. It means Ugo is moving on someone else’s Magoi and doesn’t belong to Aladdin. When Judal thrusts a huge icicle through Ugo’s chest, Ugo smashes Judal with both his palms like a bug.

Episode 11
Ugo is serious in finishing off Judal for good but the Princess of Kou, Kougyoku and her escorts save Judal from death. She leaves Ka Koubun to heal Judal while she prepares to fight Ugo since he still wants to have a go. She summons Vinea and with her water magic slices Ugo. Though Ugo returns back into the flute, Aladdin is upset that his friend is hurt. He wants to attack back (blaming their side was the one who started it all) so Kougyoku sends her warriors Enshin, Entai and Engi to kill everyone else while she handles Aladdin. Before she could start to have her fun, Sinbad stops her. He doesn’t view it favourable for them both to be fighting and tells Aladdin to back down too. He assures Ugo is still alive because djinns won’t die easily and it’s not like him to be blinded by rage. Kougyoku and her men leave while Aladdin desperately tries to use his own Magoi to heal Ugo (the mark on the flute is missing). The wounded are being tended to but they notice Aladdin is growing weaker because he is using his Magoi, which is like substituting his life for Ugo. Although a Magi can use the Magoi around them limitlessly, they are still limited by their own physical strength. Aladdin ran out of strength and could no longer draw Magoi from Rukh. He won’t be conscious for the next few days. Alibaba laments he lacks the power to do anything for his people. Because it is Sinbad himself that motivates and assures them that everything will be alright. General Barkak visits the slums and Alibaba is glad to see the man who thought him sword fighting. He is here along with Ahbmad’s advisor, Sahbmad. He has something important to tell. Sahbmad reveals he is the informant who leaked info to Fog Troupe. He thought if Alibaba was the one leading the Fog Troupe, they might do something for this country. Sahbmad views Alibaba was always able to do things he couldn’t and wants him to stop Ahbmad. He is afraid of what the king is going to do and doesn’t know how far this country has fallen.

It all began when the previous king fell sick. That’s when Markkio appeared before Ahbmad and offered to fix their worsening economy. Ahbmad was shown Fuan, paper currency with fixed value backed by the Kou Empire. He was told to use it if they want to trade. Soon, Balbadd prospered using the currency and Markkio was willing to lend them as much as they need. But things started to change when the currency change valuable. Unlike metal currencies, Fuan is just a paper currency and it easily led to inflation and fluctuations. Balbadd’s debt expended and Markkio wasn’t willing to lend any more Fuan for free. They had to use collaterals and gave up their maritime, territorial and trading rights. Because of that the people suffered but the nobles, royals and aristocrats continue to live the wealthy life. In order to silence voices of discontent, Ahbmad blocked off the slums and abandoned all those living there. Because the top people wanted more Fuan and had nothing more to offer as collateral, Ahbmad decided to use his people as collateral. Hand over their rights for more Fuan as there will never be shortage of humans. In short, Ahbmad is going to sell the people of Balbadd and turn it into a slave producing country. Morgiana is upset to hear all this and wants Alibaba to act now and save this country from madness. Everyone turns to Alibaba for his decision. What will he do?

Episode 12
Alibaba must act soon because in 5 days, Ahbmad will marry a princess from Kou and they will sign a contract to turn Balbadd’s people into slaves. Alibaba is still low in confidence. Feeling like a nobody while thinking the charismatic Sinbad has better qualifications than he is. Because Sinbad doesn’t expect much from Alibaba’s low confidence and abilities, Morgiana didn’t like how he insulted the person who freed her from slavery. She believes Alibaba is the one who can save this country. Alibaba and Morgiana discuss with Sinbad about Kou’s increasing influence over the years from a small country to a militaristic powerhouse. Sinbad has recently figured this out that Judal is the source of this. Sinbad had cleared a Dungeon of Judal by himself and the latter didn’t like it so they had many several confrontations. Except for Sinbad, Judal led various people into this dungeon and allowed Kou to develop into a powerhouse. His thirst for conquest shows no signs of stopping and his next stop is Balbadd. It is evident since Kou have been meddling in Balbadd’s affairs by taking many of its rights. Later Sinbad talks privately with Alibaba. The latter still having low morale. Sinbad notes his low confidence is a problem but as long as Ahbmad is king, Balbadd cannot avoid becoming a vassal for Kou. In short, Alibaba must become Balbadd’s king. Sinbad assures he will support him as much as he can. Still no confidence? Sinbad tells him the people who believed in him. Morgiana, the Fog Troupe and all those who gathered at the palace earlier. Alibaba goes to the poor part of town and remembers his younger life. It dawned to him that these people will become slaves too. When they recognize Alibaba, they crowd around him to plead for him to save them. Alibaba is ‘kidnapped’ by Kassim and brought to his hideout.

Kassim left because he couldn’t stand Sinbad. He has heard about Ahbmad wanting to make this a country of slaves and plans to rebel and topple the king via the people. He introduces Alibaba to another shady guy, Arms Dealer AKA Ithnan who has provided them with magical weapons before. Alibaba has a bad feeling of this guy and disagrees with Kassim’s proposal to go to war since many innocent lives will be lost. He wants to try something else but isn’t sure. He is confident he will come up with something and save this country without letting a single person die. Kassim punches him and doesn’t need him anymore. He has no power, no resolve and useless as a royalty. If he plans to stop him, they’ll be enemies. Alibaba returns to Sinbad and requests him to teach him how to use his djinn effectively. Because he still considers Kassim as his friend, he won’t tell him about the situation but Sinbad is happy to help him out. As humans, they cannot summon and use Magoi like Magi so they have to use Djinn Equip to cover their entire body. It’s not possible in a short time but he can start by equipping part of his weapon like Kougyoku did partially with her weapon. Alibaba trains hard to effectively use Amon and gets advice how to replenish Magoi. Next day, a large crowd gathers at the palace gates. They are not happy at the poor state they are in. Since today is the day Kassim will act, Alibaba needs to make his move before he does and sneaks into the palace using his authority as the third prince of Balbadd.

Episode 13
Ka Koubun reports to Kougyoku that since Judal has broken bones everywhere, his full recovery will take time. She ponders about her position as Kou’s legitimate princess and the need for this political marriage to Ahbmad. As explained, if they are to expand their empire to the western lands, a legitimate princess is needed to show Kou’s good faith. Kougyoku has just conquered a Dungeon and she wants to be a warrior. She also wants to experience true love (thinking about Sinbad). She wonders how this Ahbmad person is. Oh, if you only knew the scum he is… Meanwhile Markkio presents Ahbmad the elite warriors of Enshin, Entai and Engi as Kou’s betrothal gifts. As Alibaba has entered the palace plaza, Ahbmad is not amused of this scum and wants him killed. Markkio orders Entai to finish Alibaba. Entai transforms into his powerful elephant form to fight Alibaba. Because Alibaba’s training is incomplete, he still doesn’t know how to effectively use Amon’s power and is pushed to a corner. On the verge of defeat, he thinks back the people who had confidence in him but is confused because he believes what Kassim said about him having no power. Till Aladdin’s words awaken him. He realizes power has nothing to do with it and has decided to move forward no matter what. In a big risky gamble, he uses all he has got to use Djinn Equip. This materializes Amon’s power and his short dagger turns into Amon’s metal sword. He cuts Entai into half. But now he has got to deal with monster monkeys who regenerate when they are cut. He also has to deal with the big monkey boss, Enshin and he is running out of Magoi. Morgiana jumps into the action. She didn’t like Alibaba taking his own action and not telling her about it. If he did, she would definitely want to help. She knows he has things to take care off but they do not involve dealing with monkeys. She wants him to leave the monkey business to her so that he could go settle more important things.

Sinbad learns that Alibaba has intruded the palace. He feels things will be hard to solve politically now but thinks there is still a chance. He heads over to the palace but something strange is happening to Aladdin. In the palace hall, Alibaba is confronted with the leopard faced Engi. Amon’s sword can cut through steel but now he has truly run out of Magoi. Remembering Sinbad’s words on how to replenish them, he scatters oil over the place and lights them up. He uses Amon to absorb the flames and in that short moment, Amon’s sword materializes and Alibaba uses this chance to cut down Engi. Morgiana also ends her match as she builds up her speed and power to kick right through Enshin’s stomach. Alibaba has reached to throne room and as Markkio puts it, despite the elite warriors defeated, he is out of Magoi now. Ahbmad orders his guards to kill Alibaba but they are rather hesitant. Alibaba sheaths his sword and wants to talk but if you were to listen orders from the king or prince, who ranks higher? For once, Sahbmad stands up against his brother. He orders Barkak to disarm the guards and then uses his authority as the deputy king to order there will be no disruption between Alibaba and Ahbmad’s conversation.

Episode 14
Ahbmad thinks Sahbmad wants to do a coup d’etat and become the next king. He disagrees since he has no ability. Ahbmad forces him to sit on his throne and feel the responsibility of being a king. Sahbmad becomes overwhelmed so Ahbmad calls him a coward. Alibaba denies because he took control of this situation and saved his life. He then slaps the king’s fat cheeks and wants him to abdicate the throne so Ahbmad tries to order for Alibaba’s head. The guards no longer listen. Kougyoku enters to see what the commotion is about. When she finds out who Ahbmad is, look at her disappointed face. She is going to marry this piggy guy? However Markkio say currently they have no king and the situation is unclear. They just experienced coup d’etat and Ahbmad going to abdicate the throne. Kougyoku remains calm and will carry out her mission. She wants a new king selected now. Barkak wants Sahbmad to be the next king but the latter feels he doesn’t have the right since he is as guilty as Ahbmad for watching him carrying out his atrocities. He hints somebody. Guess who? However Alibaba won’t be king due to his past of enabling incidents that led to the previous king’s death. However he requests for Kou to annul the treaty to be signed tomorrow. No can’t do because it was formally agreed upon their countries and can’t be annulled so easily. But can she do it since there is no king of Balbadd. No marriage = no signing of treaty. Alibaba then announces that from today, Balbadd will cease to become monarchy and suggests it becomes a republic. A country that is chosen and ruled by the people itself. His journeys have seen many countries abandoning the monarch and turning republic and knows Balbadd can do it. This is what he came there to say. Kougyoku knows if this happens, she won’t have to marry. Sinbad interrupts the conversation and along with him he brought directors from countries of his Seven Seas Alliance. He is here to recommend Alibaba to be Balbadd’s king but now has heard the different method he chose.

Kougyoku reminds them that many of Balbadd’s rights have been transferred to Kou. Alibaba hopes she could pretend those transfers never happened because right now a new Balbadd is being recreated and those rights of the old kingdom that has ceased to exist. Knowing that Kougyoku doesn’t wish to fight or even interested in this political marriage, he hopes that he can push through this unreasonable request. Especially she doesn’t have to marry anybody. She replies that Kou’s goal is to gain this country without bloodshed. If she brings this request back to her father, he might come back and take it by force via his military might. Alibaba also requests he need not do that. In return, he is willing to share profits of Balbadd’s maritime trade since this country is the cornerstone of the southern seas. So if they attack, they will destroy the land and what good will it bring to everyone? Sinbad also thinks Kou’s king won’t take military action because Balbadd will be joining the Seven Seas Alliance. She is surprised that such proposition has been in talk for a long time since Sinbad and Balbadd’s previous king were very close. She decides to leave this matter in her father’s hand and agree to withdraw but with a condition: Sinbad must come to Kou and prove it. Kougyoku is relieved that she doesn’t have to marry that pig and more importantly, quite excited that Sinbad will come and visit her at Kou. Alibaba suggests of forming a temporary government while they recreate the framework of a new Balbadd. As for Ahbmad, the people would definitely want his head. But Alibaba says the country doesn’t have the right to punish everyone and will rewrite the penal code. So they should all work together to rebuild Balbadd. Markkio isn’t confident because from his experience, he has seen many republics whereby the ruler pushes himself above the people, causing the republic to fall. He believes a king will rise this country up again. Alibaba will try and create a country without inequality. Since the people outside can no longer wait, Alibaba goes out to address them that Ahbmad has abdicated his throne and Balbadd is no more a monarchy but republic. At first the people looked stunned and confused. Their kingdom without a king? Can it work? But with Alibaba’s smooth talking and assuring they can do it, the people rally behind him. Meanwhile so much Rukhs are flowing out from Aladdin and Judal that it can be visible to ordinary people. Aladdin’s Rukhs turn into a giant bird. Ithnan is going to reverse the flow of fate as Kassim and his army are marching towards the palace.

Episode 15
When Kassim enters the plaza, he learns the country has turned republic. There goes his reason to fight. However he tells them Balbadd had always belonged to the people in the first place. It is the royalty and government that ruined and took everything from them. He makes the people how they suffered greatly and that the dead won’t come back. Even if the monarch disappears, it doesn’t mean their crimes will. It is an enemy they must defeat. Partly thanks to Zaynab’s sword, everyone is convinced Kassim’s words are true and start revolting. Ithnan gets rid of Markkio to set his own darkness in. Meanwhile Aladdin is in some subconscious dimension and meets Ugo. At least his head. He assures him he is not dead and just asked the Rukh to bring his consciousness here. He tried to bring Judal here too but was unable to. There are people who are trying to reverse the flow of fate. Normally lives move forward and for Aladdin, he has been guided by the Rukh and experienced many adventures and met many people. Reversing that fate means regressing it into nothing and falling into depravity. When that happens, the Rukhs become black and so will the Magi. Aladdin should have died in the fight against Judal but Ugo tried his best to fight against it. Though Aladdin tried to give his Magoi, Ugo is not his djinn and he cannot take it even if it is copy of his master. Since Ugo cannot protect him anymore, he has used every power left to summon him here. He shows the revolt and warns if this goes on, Alibaba will die. And this is not how his fate was supposed to flow. When the world turns into darkness, people need the power to cut it. In short, they need a miracle and it’s a Magi’s job to do that. Ugo sends Aladdin through a door so that he could learn about the world and flow of fate from his master’s wisdom, Solomon. Aladdin flies through space as the voice of Solomon guides him. He will soon be reborn as a new Magi.

The people are killing the guards and making headway so Alibaba gives orders how to contain and regain control of those broken through or injured. He will settle Kassim himself. He confronts the band of thieves and demands his reason for doing this. From the way he says things, does Kassim want to become king himself? Though the bandits overwhelm Alibaba with their fog powered sword, he is able to transform his dagger into Amon’s metal sword. He cuts through all their weapons and warns Kassim to retreat and to call back his troops. But Kassim would rather die than back down and challenges Alibaba to kill him. In the end, he just couldn’t. He still wants Kassim to withdraw and if that happens, he will still have a chance. Kassim isn’t as naïve as him. Now that his men are in the guards’ custody, Kassim has no choice but to curse his own fate. He was told by Ithnan that if wants to do that, he must unleash the power in his weapon. But if he is not the right container, he will die. He surprises everyone by stabbing himself. Bloody. All the broken metal blades absorb into his body. Using his blood to command those vessels and gathering them as one, he has become the bearer of the ebon container and turns into a giant black demon.

Episode 16
The demon is destroying buildings and killing guards. Splat! Although Alibaba’s sword cuts it, it can regenerate due to the black Rukhs spawned by the people’s hatred. Alibaba is in a state of shock so Morgiana tries to do what she can but is fling away. Now it’s Sinbad’s turn to do something to temporarily mess with its Magoi but how long can he stand absorbing the black Rukhs? Sinbad wants Alibaba to kill the demon. He has no choice because this thing wants to kill everyone involved with the monarchy in a bloody revolution. Alibaba tries to pierce through its chest but the dark Rukhs are repelling his sword. He falters when he sees Kassim’s face stuck in the demon’s body. He can’t draw the strength to summon more Magoi so Barkak mobilizes his army to flank the demon and protect their country. Seeing how he needs to get his act together, Alibaba summons all he has got and charges. Unfortunately he is repelled away by Judal. Now his Magoi is close to nothing. Meanwhile outside the palace, the people are still rioting. The kingdom is in one big chaotic mess. Jafar and Masrur are helping to save the innocent people. They see Aladdin flying in from the horizon on some light. Judal takes up Ithnan’s advice to make the demon his djinn. With that, it is now under his command and more powerful. Morgiana takes Alibaba away before he gets zapped by its dark magic but how long can she keep outrunning it?

Alibaba wants her to throw him up to them. He will use all the remaining Magoi inside him to defeat them. Even if this is suicidal, it won’t mean a thing if they fail to protect what they have been working for. Reluctantly, she tosses him up but Judal smashes him down like pancake. Alibaba’s sword breaks. He wants to keep trying but the results are the same. That’s when a great ray of light drops down. It is Aladdin and because he realizes Alibaba was always taking on responsibilities of others even though it is not his, he wants to be that source of strength for him. Judal is happy to see reborn Aladdin and wants to fight using their djinns. However Ugo is no longer here. Judal is disappointed and will kill this useless kid. However Aladdin notes Ugo has left him some power. He materializes a white giant in the form of Ugo but Judal thinks he is just using his heat magic. In a single powerful blast, Judal and his djinn and blown away. However they soon emerge and without a scratch. Aladdin admits his lost and his magic is incomplete. Despite he can’t fight on the same level with Judal, that’s why he needs Alibaba’s power. Alibaba doesn’t have any power left and his sword is broken. Like his spirits too. He can’t fight anymore. Aladdin shows him the rioting outside. There are some people who still have faith in the new country and will fix it with their own hands as they continue to fight the rebels. Thanks to Alibaba’s words, it had sparked that hope within them. That’s why they can fight. Aladdin draws in their Rukhs as an immense power is building up. Ithnan feels this magic is different from the last time and fears he has really obtained Solomon’s Wisdom. I guess that mark on his forehead is just proof of that.

Episode 17
Aladdin wants Alibaba to free Kassim by breaking through his darkness with his sword. But it’s broken. Aladdin’s heat magic reforges it back to normal and although Alibaba pierces through the djinn, he gets absorbed into its body. Aladdin holds off Judal for the time being by making him see some tormenting memories. Inside the djinn, Alibaba meets Kassim. The latter hates him to death because he never lost hope. Although this is the Rukhs speaking, it cannot lie so Alibaba must bear its harsh words. Kassim vents his anger that their fate was decided at birth. If so, he will curse it with his hands. Alibaba disagrees with him because he too had tried his best and went through bad patches. So don’t make up crap about his life to justify himself. Kassim is still enraged, believing they were different since the day they were born. Alibaba is shown the suffering of the people living in the slums. They were losing hope till Ithnan approached them to tell how this is happening all over the world, those at the top exploiting those below. He feels this fate is worth crushing and if they have to will to revolt, he will gladly help them. That’s when Kassim and the rest saw that ‘hope’ and took up his offer. Kassim stabs through Alibaba’s chest. It made him feel what Kassim felt all this time. He may have noticed it before but was too afraid to do anything and ran away. He still believes there is a way for them to live happy together. It dawned to Kassim that Alibaba had always been thinking how to deal with the differences they can’t rid. It made him realize he tried to force himself to stand in his place.

He has found peace and is slowly vanishing into the light. He remembers how his dad returned, still the same useless drunk. Kassim killed him with his own hands when he even thought of using Mariam to entertain customers just to get his alcohol money. Kassim last wish is to be Alibaba’s friend. That’s silly because Alibaba says they’ve always been friends. Kassim vanishes. Judal weakens so Ithnan takes him and flees. Aladdin is glad to see Alibaba back although he is crying holding dead Kassim in his arms. In a remote place, Ithnan vows to crush Aladdin and his candidate king. However his ambition is put to an abrupt halt when he is attacked by Masrur and Jafar before being finished off by Sinbad. Looks like the brother thieves have returned the stolen Metal Vessels to them to enable them to pull off this super awesome power move. But something tells me this isn’t the end of Ithnan yet. See him slither away in his snake form? Aladdin tells Alibaba he can’t cry forever or else Kassim cannot return. Those who die don’t disappear but return to the great flow of Rukh. That’s why although it’s sad when people die, it is not eternal farewell. They are always watching the choices and journey they take. He has all the dead people materialize from the Rukh so they are able to temporarily reunite with their living loved ones. Alibaba sees Kassim reunited with Mariam. The spirits return to the Rukh and Aladdin notes the darkness in his friends in this country has all turned to light. Morgiana happily reunites with the duo.

Episode 18
Balbadd is being rebuilt. After a non-poisonous snake bites Alibaba, a fleet of Kou’s army is seen approaching. As Balbadd is a new state, it is still considered archaic and Kou is going to rein it under its control and gain control of all royalty by forming a puppet government. Sinbad wants Alibaba to leave the country but he will not run away. Sinbad knocks him out. When he wakes up, he finds himself on a boat to Sindria. A month later, Sinbad returns after negotiations at Kou. He rounds up the gang to tell the results of the talk. Kou will recognize Balbadd as a republic but will be placed under its rule. The people will not be forced into slavery but the other rights they lost aren’t so lenient. Alibaba thanks him for making that decision because he has been thinking and no matter what he comes up, he thinks his plan was still the best. Sinbad continues to tell them about Al-Thamen. As wars and other abnormalities are happening around the world, it is by no coincidence. This group is responsible for that and Markkio and Ithnan are one of its many members. There are many others in other countries trying to bring chaos. Sinbad wants them to lend their strength to fight Al-Thamen. But because their powers are incomplete, he has the right teachers to teach them right here in this country. A southern sea monster is seen offshore so Sinbad gathers his Eight Generals for the hunt. Alibaba and co watch and notice the people are gleefully expecting this event instead of panicking. I guess instead of taking it as some horror show, Sinbad turned this into a must-see tourist event. That’s better, right? Sinbad leaves Yamraiha and Sharkkan to deal with the beast. Not only they kill it, they also clean its innards, debone and plate it nicely! Fresh sushi anyone?! Yamraiha will be Aladdin’s teacher and the first thing that kid did was to smother his face in her boobs! How long has he not being doing that? He almost got turned into steam. As for Alibaba, Sharkkan will teach him swordsmanship.

Tonight is also the Maharagan festival where the entire country celebrates. Alibaba is introduced to the rest of the Eight Generals. As we already know Jafar and Masrur, the remaining half includes Hinahoho (large Eskimo), Drakon (dragon man), Pisti (little kid) and Sasan (armour guy). Sinbad adds they are all either members of royal families of his allied countries that refused refuge to them or cannot remain in their homeland for some reason. He considers all his citizens as his family and they love their king. In less than 1 generation that Sindria was formed, things seemed to be flourishing. Sinbad also mentions that another condition during his negotiations with Kou is that one of their princes is coming here to study so he hopes Alibaba can observe him. Jafar wants to know if Sinbad did make any move on Kougyoku but to his dismay, he only went there for diplomatic reasons. No intention of settling down yet, eh? Later Alibaba wonders why Morgiana is sticking with them instead of heading back to her home. She wants to repay her debt to them and now she has learnt about Al-Thamen, she wants to fight those who are oppressed. If that is what she has decided, then she should do so because she is free to choose. Meanwhile Prince Hakuryuu is sailing towards Sindria while Kougyoku is one scary woman because she is going to kill Sinbad! She wants him dead oh so bad… I take it she got rejected.

Episode 19
Aladdin’s magic training with Yamraiha begins as with Alibaba’s swordsmanship with Sharkkan. Sinbad then takes Alibaba to choose a new Metal Vessel to replace his broken dagger and transfer Amon. It needs to be a metal he has emotional attachment to. After Alibaba relates how he got the dagger via his profits from his first successful trade negotiations and thus related to Balbadd’s ex-king, Sinbad shows his knife that the ex-king also gave him. He passes it on to Alibaba. Sinbad also wants Morgiana to choose a Metal Vessel since she is going to be under Alibaba’s house to fight alongside him. The jewellery and metal weapons don’t really seem to fit her but since a condition is to have any kind of metal that touches the body, she decides to use her broken shackles. It contains many painful and sweet memories. Kou’s delegate has arrived. Kougyoku is trying not to lose her cool. But Sinbad must have said the wrong word that made her lose it. She’s going to kill him! She won’t forgive his barbarism. His generals want to know what wrong he has done but he can’t remember. Now that she has reduced to a sobbing princess, Ka Koubun explains on her behalf. A lavish farewell feast was held for Sinbad during his diplomatic mission at Kou. When Kougyoku wakes up, she finds naked Sinbad sleeping next to her. Everyone is in disbelief. Did the king of Sindria just sullied Kou’s princess? Sinbad can’t remember doing any sort of that. It doesn’t help since his generals do not trust him when he is drunk! Turning against him? Even so, Sharkkan and Sasan attest that they see Sinbad off to bed right after the feast. But does it prove his innocence? Now Kougyoku will tell her side of the story. She was hiding in the corner admiring her crush, too shy to approach and talk to him. When she finally gave up and left, she felt someone knock her out and the next thing she knew, Sinbad was sleeping right next to her.

In order to solve this problem, Sinbad must marry her and take responsibility. It’s war or friendship. Of all the problems he had encountered, never has he faced such perilous one, eh? How is he going to get out of this one? Sinbad orders Yamraiha to use her power to prove his innocence. Should have done this from the start. The tales of Sinbad and Kougyoku are retold via their Rukhs. Sinbad went straight to bed after the banquet. Kougyoku was walking along when somebody knocked her out and placed her next to Sinbad. Nothing happened till morning. Ka Koubun doesn’t want everyone to be fooled by this suspicious magic but Kougyoku has had enough. She realized her hair and clothes then were still intact so nothing really happened. Feeling bad for the trouble she caused, she starts apologizing. Wow. A princess doing that in public? Don’t you feel bad for her? As Ka Koubun narrates, he is the culprit that knocked her out and placed her there. His plan was to have Kougyoku bear a child to whoever she marries. Through that child, he will control the country from the shadows. It didn’t work out with Ahbmad but when Sinbad came along, it’s like killing 2 birds with a stone since Kougyoku likes him. Ka Koubun continues to force his way through by insisting Sinbad take responsibility but the guards who were in cohorts with him fess up. There goes his plan. Ka Koubun is going to fight back but was put a stop by Hakuryuu. He apologizes on behalf of his fellow travellers’ misconduct. Now the prince is apologizing. Don’t you feel bad for him? Ka Koubun puts up crocodile tears with Kougyoku to make up for now. Later Hakuryuu talks to Sinbad and is impressed with his achievements. However he knows he is also lying. He views friendly relations as superficial pretence. Though his goal is not to be enemies with him, he is here to share info that an organization currently dwelling in Kou’s shadows is targeting Sindria and has already begun to move. So why the prince personally come to tell him? Hakuryuu’s goal is to destroy Kou.

Episode 20
Sinbad wants him to learn about the world first and be more knowledgeable before engaging in any further discussion. Morgiana shows Alibaba and Aladdin her Metal Vessel shackles. It is now decorated with the fire bird pattern symbolizing the sun as believed by her people. But she is unsure how to use them. Because putting them as shackles almost hurt the guys! Chains wrapped around their head? Comical! Hakuryuu sees them because Sinbad requested him to learn from the trio while accompanying them. A voice in Alibaba’s head tells him to hate and kill Hakuryuu. The prince knows Alibaba still bears a grudge for what Kou did to Balbadd and understands he shouldn’t hold it back. Alibaba collapses in pain. In the infirmary, his left shoulder has been affected with some sort of dark spot. When Sinbad enters the picture, Ithnan emerges from the spot. Sinbad tries to cut him but he regenerates and got his blood spilled all over him. Ithnan is here to invite Sinbad and Alibaba to turn to the dark side. Become dark kings and serve their father. He warns them not to fight it because Solomon’s Rukh and the black Rukh will destroy each other inside and their body will die. Sinbad is also infected with the curse but he notes it is just some dark complicated magic. Alibaba feels guilty but Sinbad notes there is one way to rid the curse. There is a Dungeon lying on the southern island of Toran. Zagan is said to heal any wounds or illness. Sinbad can’t go because there is a limit of how many djinns he can get. I suppose 7 is the maximum. Hakuryuu gets permission to tag along for the dungeon mission.

On the boat to Toran, Pisti assures Sinbad that Yamraiha’s stagnation magic can prevent the curse from spreading for 10 days. When a sea creature attacks, Pisti uses her animal kinship to calm it down. Then she shows her true colours to the guys. Arrogant and haughty, she wants them to show her respect as a big sister because despite her loli looks, she is much older than them. Yeah. She has lots of experience in many areas too. But Aladdin is disappointed and not convinced because she lacks the boobs! When Hakuryuu invites them to eat dinner with him, Alibaba remembers he objected to Sinbad of the prince coming along. He felt his conscious is causing the hatred. But Sinbad believes he can overcome it. Consider this as a trial to learn and forgive him. Meanwhile Sinbad getting cursed was just a motivation for the gang. If Al-Thamen is after them, they’ll be safer inside the dungeon. As the ship arrives at Toran, a little girl, Tiare wants to come along with them into the Dungeon. She wants to rescue her parents. It is rumoured that Zagan eats people and swallows those passing nearby. So much so people become afraid to approach it and all those who entered never return. Alibaba doesn’t want her to come as she will slow them down. Hakuryuu offers to save her parents and if they’re dead he’ll kill everything in the Dungeon. Alibaba, Aladdin, Morgiana and Hakuryuu ride a boat towards the Dungeon but a bright light absorbs them.

Episode 21
Inside the strange Dungeon, there are lots of trees and doors. I guess they’ll have to open each door to see which one leads deeper. One of the doors contains cute turtles who want to eat them? Their bite doesn’t hurt… In fact, all the other doors contain strange creatures who want to eat them! They think this place is their home. When they finally find a door that leads deeper, they are confronted with a bear who is asking them for honey. Sorry, no honey. They hear a singing voice and the bear turns violent. Hakuryuu freezes so the rest saves the day. They enter a garden and to their horror see humans being turned into trees. Zagan appears before them and explains the Toran people provide good saplings to his orchard. He uses their magic to create new creatures and the cycle repeats. They can all live happily in this dungeon since Zagan doesn’t intend to find a king candidate. Why is he doing this? He hates humans. A complicated spell is binding the humans so they can’t easily free them. They can’t get violent too since Zagan is holding Tiare hostage. She was wandering near the entrance when he caught her. He tells them to make it to the treasure room if they want her back. Zagan watches the quartet make their way through the rooms. He ups the difficulty level. While Hakuryuu once more is reduced to a damsel in distress, Alibaba and Aladdin are doing great with their combo. Hakuryuu then has a request. He wants them to stop helping him because as a prince he cannot be contented relying on others. Zagan agrees with him and views that it’ll be troublesome if they cover each other’s backs. He splits them up into groups. While Aladdin and Alibaba are having it easy defeating golems, Hakuryuu and Morgiana aren’t. Only magic can destroy these super hard golems. Hakuryuu remains stubborn that he doesn’t need help but his case reminds Morgiana how similar he is to Alibaba. Hakuryuu uses his own ki for magic but at this rate he might not make it. Though Morgiana cannot destroy the golem with her own strength, she tosses the golem to break the rest. Hakuryuu then collapses. When he wakes up, he is reunited with the rest. Zagan then mocks Hakuruu as playing damsel in distress and a burden to others. Guess what? Hakuryuu starts crying and acting like a child! She starts calling everyone names and throwing tantrum, so Alibaba has to talk to him about his own experience at Balbadd. Oh, now Alibaba too is getting emotional. Hakuryuu calms down and hopes to fight alongside Alibaba. Meanwhile Judal just arrives at Sindria.

Episode 22
Judal breaks through the barrier and wants to see Sinbad. He came all the way here just to ask his opinion on Aladdin? Because he well knows that there is another Magi that exists in this world. Always at a given time, only 3 Magis exist. That has always been the case in history and records. With Aladdin popping up it means one of them had died but since he has heard no news about this, this means Aladdin is the fourth Magi. He suspects Sinbad has plans for Aladdin but Sindria’s king replies it’s none of his business. Judal is lonely and wants to team up with him but was reminded of what he did to them at Partevia. Everyone is still bitter about it. Suddenly Judal starts crying. He was shown his past by Aladdin and realized he had been used by Al-Thamen since birth. So is he to blame for being the bad guy? Then he starts laughing and says he doesn’t care about all that as he’ll do as he pleases. Since Judal had his fun mocking Sinbad, now he’ll get a taste of Sindria’s entertainment with the Eight Generals. But Judal tells him his boss at Al-Thamen wants Sinbad’s head on a silver platter. Blaming it all on him, Al-Thamen is getting serious now since those kids are involved. They are going to declare war. They’re taking this so seriously that they have sent their men into Zagan. Meanwhile the quartet are making headway deeper into the dungeon. Alibaba and Hakuryuu are in sync covering each other’s backs. When they enter Zagan’s room, Aladdin wants to know Zagan’s true form since he got easily hurt by his weak magic. Zagan admits he is just an imposter, a creature created by the real Zagan just to look like him. Alibaba becomes mad that he considers kidnapping villagers as a prank. He goes all out but each time he cuts, Zagan regenerates since his master controls earth. They are dropped down into a deep hole. Alibaba’s turban is shred to pieces so they can’t fly. Morgiana laments she can’t fly like a bird but that’s when her bracelets lit up. The chains activate on its own and grab her friends. She brings them up to the surface and jumps back down to defeat this imposter’s real body. Morgiana hears the voice of the bracelet telling her to ask for power because he is her household. The chains power up, ties up the hideous plant and burns it to smithereens. Morgiana is happy that she used her household vessel and will be able to help others. But she didn’t see this coming because she starts bleeding all over and collapses! The rest climb down to see her close to death. She is out of Magoi after using that crazy attack and will die if she doesn’t get treatment. Tiare is found safe. When the gang enters the door to the treasure room, they are attacked by Ithnan and his men. He reveals his objective is not Zagan but them.

Episode 23
Hakuryuu is ordered to take the ladies to safety while the duo remain and fight Ithnan’s men, Dunya Mustasim and her knight, Isaac. Dunya’s kingdom was once a big country in the west but fell to some other country 10 years ago. She wonders why Alibaba is alive. How could a prince who allowed his country to be overrun and destroyed possibly live with himself. Alibaba denies Balbadd is destroyed and had just become a republic. But that is only in name and it’s under Kou’s control. She views him as a mistake since he is alive and will correct it. She uses her Dark Metal Vessel and stabs herself. Alibaba goes crazy seeing visions of Kassim in her. Then she turns into a giant black djinn who can control magnetism and sand. We take a detour back to Sindria whereby Judal views his new fun now is to kill somebody as powerful as Sinbad. However he can’t do it now as he has other stuffs to do like destroy Sindria’s barrier. Because Al-Thamen is at war with them, Judal wants Sinbad not to get killed by them until Kou comes for him. He mentions the 5 dungeon capturers Kou have, all of them princes and princesses that includes Kougyoku. Speaking of her, she is shocked to hear Sindria going to war. Judal thinks she ran away after making that mistake in Balbadd and wants her to come back. He’ll make her his general. She is unable to say anything and is confused. After Judal leaves, Sinbad calls for an emergency war meeting with his generals. Because the barrier will take a long time to be fixed, he screws it and wants Yamraiha to have those mages fight alongside them. Later Kougyoku talks to Sinbad and she deeply regrets what Judal has done as both countries are in a friendship treaty. I guess she’s really sincere about it since she’s shaking all over. Sinbad says that a time will come when both countries will have to fight to determine which is superior. But for now, the enemy is Al-Thamen. Kougyoku asserts she is not part of it although there are some in the imperial palace who belong to it. Sinbad wants her to return to Kou as she is not safe here but since she insists to be by his side, I guess that’s that. And those Al-Thamen weirdoes are coming…

Back to Alibaba and Isaac’s sword fighting match. Clearly the latter is more superior. The same goes to Dunya over Aladdin. Realizing this sword technique is not suitable for him. He compresses his Magoi and does a Djinn Weapon Equip on his short dagger. He performs better and is able to break Isaac’s armour and cut him to pieces. Because Aladdin has unlimited Rukh power, he seems to be merely shooting weak shots but Dunya’s Magoi is running out and when she is weak, she is pinned down by his magic. Before he can finish her, Ithnan intervenes. He awakens the true power in Dunya’s Dark Metal Vessel (she relieving traumatic memories of her country being invaded) and turns her into powerful form, a combination of herself and the black djinn. Isaac wakes up and his parts reassembled. He uses his repelling magnetic force between his armour and the ground to move at lightning speed. Can Alibaba keep up? Hakuryuu has returned to help seeing he managed to put the ladies safely in the treasure room. Aladdin suggests stalling for time since eventually the enemies’ Magoi will run out but Ithnan doesn’t think it’s a wise move. He shows them a bunch of weirdoes from Al-Thamen making their way to attack Sindria. Ithnan blames Alibaba for this. Because he ran and hid in Sindria that they couldn’t leave it alone anymore. He tries to make him feel guilty that it is his fate that wherever he goes, chaos and death ensue. He should know better than to listen to him. Dunya is going to kill them all with her extreme magic.

Episode 24
Sindria initiates the first attack and some of the Eight Generals are in a fight against the Dark Metal Vessel users. Some won’t take long because like for Masrur, he easily defeats that muscle Mario guy while Sharkkan slices up his pirate counterpart. Sinbad notices something amiss because the army is too small. That’s because approaching Sindria is a giant mass of dark blob. Pisti summons her sea monsters to devour it but they got devoured instead. If that blob reaches Sindria, it will devour everything. Back to the dungeon, Isaac keeps our heroes at bay as Dunya prepares her extreme magic. Alibaba still can think about his fate to fail. Because of that, his hesitation causes him to be just a strike away from Isaac’s sword. Hakuryuu takes the cut instead and loses his left arm. When Dunya unleashes her extreme magic, she thinks everything is over but Ithnan points out she missed. Seems Aladdin used his water and vapour magic to create some light refraction. Alibaba charges and Isaac continues to protect her. However he runs out of Magoi and Alibaba cuts off his head. It is empty. The rest realize he is just a puppet made out of sand. When Isaac crumbles into sand, Dunya becomes distraught because her knight is always by her side. Aladdin knows she has been used by Al-Thamen but Alibaba is getting worked up over this because if she is going to be their enemy, at least act the part. Huh? Little did he know, the poison is slowly covering all over his body. Dunya is angry and so is Alibaba. However Aladdin tells him to calm down. He listens and puts away his sword. Suddenly Ithnan stabs Dunya. That’s it for her. So now Alibaba is sympathizing with her? Holding her in his arms, her dark Rukh start fluttering around. They all see her tragic past, how her country fell and the sad part was how the royal knights betrayed the royal family and killed all the royalty. Even the people hold such grudge towards them. Isaac was slain before her eyes as he protected her. If this was to be her fate, that’s why she cursed it. Alibaba is on the verge of falling from grace too because he is now filled with anger. The poison almost covers his entire body. Ithnan stokes the fire by wanting him to blame him for everything. Because of him, Balbadd went up in flames, his best friend died, Morgiana on the verge of death after using too much Magoi and Hakuryuu lost his left arm. It was him too that led Jamil into the dungeon. Yes. Blame it all on him. He wants Alibaba to stab and kill him. In his rage, he does so. Ithnan welcomes him to their side before he vanishes. Alibaba reborn as Al-Thamen’s new dark king.

Episode 25
Alibaba is so badass that Solomon’s Wisdom can’t penetrate him. At least that’s what the head band is doing. Morgiana has recovered some of her Magoi and goes back to help out. Hakuryuu who has conquered Zagan, summons him for some power. Zagan bestows him an artificial arm made out of wood. Works as good as original. Once Hakuyruu and Morgiana cooperate and destroy the head band, Aladdin uses Solomon’s Wisdom to enter Alibaba’s mind to free him. Meanwhile Yamraiha is having trouble fighting a senile old man on a wheelchair. Yeah, she’s been doing it since last episode. The blob is inches away in touching Sindria. Yamraiha deceives the old guy to deflect his magic and destroy half of the blob. Now that the old guy is out of Magoi, he becomes pissed when Yamraiha mocks him. So enraged that he charges blindly and got stabbed by Sasan’s lance. Good riddance. The others are trying to get rid of the blob. They need to wipe it out in one shot like Yamraiha otherwise it has no effect. Kougyoku lends her power as she summons a huge tidal wave to engulf all the remaining blob. Should have done this from the start, princess. Don’t tell me you were hesitating, too shy or something. Aladdin sees Alibaba sitting alone and he is really pessimistic especially about fate. You know. If fate has already planned it out for you, so why bother? Leave it to Aladdin to explain the true meaning of fate, just seek another answer, blah, blah, blah. And before you know it, Alibaba believes in him, reaches out for his hand and his poison disappears. Wow. Magic. However they still sense a true darkness lying ahead and trudge forward.

Meanwhile Ithnan decides to pull back for today when he is confronted by Sinbad. He is not going to let him leave alive after declaring war on his country. Sinbad does his Djinn Equip and Ithnan thinks he will only aggravate the poison and curse. To his surprise, he gets stronger and it seems he was already cursed and halfway falling from grace. Ithnan’s curse just wasn’t strong enough. And with that, Ithnan gets zapped. Good riddance. Aladdin and Alibaba find Ithnan sitting alone in the depths of the latter’s mind. He is only what remains of the poison as his real body has already been destroyed by Sinbad. He wants Alibaba to kill him to rid him forever. Ithnan realizes Aladdin is representing Solomon. Aladdin wants to know the reason he waged war on this world. To create darkness and free everyone from that prison called fate. To do that, you must fall from grace. Aladdin dismisses his version of fate and talks about Alma Toran (some past chaotic flashback here that I don’t really understand for now). Alibaba could have sealed him for eternity but he doesn’t even want to kill Ithnan. Because he doesn’t want to hate anymore. And that thing about fate too. He sure has taken after Aladdin, hasn’t he? Ironically, Ithnan is sent back to Solomon in a peaceful bright light. Aladdin and Alibaba wake up from their slumber with lots of Rukhs fluttering around. Aladdin sees the Rukh of Kassim and knows he was the one helping to hold back the poison from spreading in Alibaba’s body. Everybody’s back, everybody’s happy. Now to go home. Aladdin and Alibaba talk about their adventures and how far they have come. How long can they do this? Forever. Yes. Seriously. Aladdin believes he can be a great leader and guide many despite he will face lots of trials and tribulations of the backwards flow of fate. He will surpass them all and become king. That’s why as his Magi, he is here to guide him to that path.

Fate/Stay Magic
As expected… Actually, more like it was already notified at the last episode that there will be a second season (which is already in the midst of its run by the time you see this blog). How can an anime with so much potential and characters just end on an unsatisfying note? Yeah. Just take a look at some of the new characters introduced in the final scenes and I figure it is going to get pretty interesting (or messy if you want to interpret it in another way) at how the way things are going. So I guess to avoid us viewers having too much magic overflow, our brains and bodies need to take a rest before resuming. Because you know, otakus don’t really know how to take care of their bodies so if a series is shown for more than 2 seasons straight, you can bet they’ll become a zombie and watch the show faithfully like a cult following. And that can have very adverse effect to the otaku themselves. See those who are currently following One Piece or Naruto? You’re like a zombie trying to follow the show weekly, no? Haha! Wait a minute. Why the heck am I distracting myself with some other topic?!

Because as far as this anime series is concerned, nothing is really finished yet so I suppose my conclusions won’t be so conclusive either. You know me. In short, this is quite an okay series with some bits of action, magic and fantasy of the Arabian kind. I did enjoy some of the moments but somehow I feel that some of the arcs may be played out too long that it has become a drag. Like Balbadd’s arc, it was great and all to see Alibaba reunited with his old friends and pairing up with the great Sinbad. But after overthrowing the fat and shorty king that everyone would love to hate, the fight continues on until Kassim’s anger can be subsided. To me, I thought it was really dragging it out. But of course there is a reason why an arc is divided into episodes and I have said this anime holds a lot of potential. If you want a show and its characters to be properly fleshed out, then such lengthiness is necessary. At least they didn’t take the entire year. (Oh God. Just thinking about that One Piece’s rescue Ace-cum-war of the best arc really got me thinking, “Did I spend the entire year watching this arc?”). So I suppose for the first season, the show has done quite a decent job in gradually fleshing out some of the characters, their past and their future goals, the history and workings of this world although there are more that might be revealed in the next season. Despite the second title of this anime, The Magic of Labyrinth, we don’t really see them journeying an adventure inside Dungeons except for the first (obviously) and last few episodes (so that we don’t forget this). It would be really be boring if we just see Aladdin and Alibaba travelling around the world conquering Dungeons. Though each Dungeon is different, there is only so much you can show viewers their adventures in it. It’s a big world out there so it’s better for them to take their adventures there.

I guess a reason why a story is great is because of its characters. I’m thinking with the large cast of characters in this series, I feel like they are going to make something epic. We have Alibaba’s group in one corner. Then we have Sinbad and his Eight Generals. That makes nine of them, right? Also, we have the Kou princes and princesses and their retainers. So far we have only seen the tip of the iceberg of the Kou Empire and I’m sure there are many more unaccounted characters yet. And that is just the protagonists. What about the antagonists who are the mysterious Al-Thamen? Not much is known about them yet but I can see that they will stop to nothing to bring their version of darkness to the world. Seeing some of the bunch of weirdoes that they have sent into war, it only makes me wonder what more freaks they will send. They can look funny but I hope they last more than 2 or 3 scenes and give the other good guys something to occupy while the main ones handle something else. Even some of the side characters for the particular arc were memorable. For the right or wrong reasons. Kassim was just pitiful but Ahbmad was just plain scornful.

And so our main hero and future king Alibaba is your typical guy with all the goodness in his heart but is not perfect either. Because of that imperfection, it proves he is human but he is willing to learn from his mistakes and get better. Getting possessed and turned into a dark king for a temporary moment may seem he is at his weakest moment but it is also a blessing in disguise because it shows he has friends around him who care and are willing to bring him back to the right path. Then he also grows stronger from it. You can’t blame Alibaba for always feeling sad and blaming himself for being unable to save others. If you have watched the same kind of results event after event, you would even start thinking if this is going to be your fate. But we know how heroes like these will end up in stories like this one. The question is how many more trials and tribulations he will have to undergo. Alibaba isn’t the only character in focus as we have Aladdin and Morgiana too. But they don’t take up as much screen time as Alibaba in terms of seeing them power up or gain extra skills. Still, they do play a great supporting role to him. Sinbad is another great character and he is the best person to be king. He is smart, wise, visionary, sporting and above all, fair. Okay, sometimes a little slip ups too. But when things need to get done, he takes it seriously. His Eight Generals are also cool, each with their own personality and skills but it’s a shame that there isn’t enough screen time to flesh them out properly. Though Jafar and Masrur have the most screen time among the generals, even theirs isn’t really considered enough in this sense.

Judal serves up a potential to be a future antagonist because he is arrogant, cruel and disrespectful. Seems he and Kou aligned with each other because they needed somebody powerful enough to fulfil their conquest ambition. I can see the princes and princesses of Kou appearing in this season to be noble. We don’t see them harbouring intentions of ruling the world unlike some of their subjects. Like for Hakuryuu, he needs to learn to seek help from others and cast away his stubborn pride as a prince. It’s understandable nobody wants to see a weak prince but from his skill level, what can he do? Even if he doesn’t like relying on others, cooperating doesn’t seem to be a bad idea. As for Kougyoku… One word. Cute. Every kingdom needs to have one cute princess and at the same time can be bad enough to kick ass when the time calls for it. It’s fun to see her reaction when she’s with Sinbad. I know. I’m hoping of some sort of romantic comedy here… The djinns of each dungeon are pretty amusing too, each with their own personality, although they (wait for it) don’t get enough screen time. Sometime when I look at them, I can’t help think they are oversized Smurfs… Anyway, it bugs me to see how Ugo ended up headless and to have the flute as his ‘head’ when Aladdin blows it looks pretty funny. Though it was sad that it was really the last time Ugo and Aladdin talked before the latter achieved Solomon’s wisdom. You won’t see that headless genie anymore. Because I think his original face and head looks good. He’d look better if his head and body were one. Duh.

The action and fight scenes are okay and enjoyable. Like when Ugo starts rampaging and trying to do Hulk smash thingy or Morgiana serving up powerful and wicked legs kicking action that would put Chun Li to shame. But not that something I would be in total awe. Since this is a magic themed anime, obviously magic is used in battles and aside the Magi, the human counterparts do have their own ways to use magic in their fights. Nothing flashy but okay by my standards. There are a few terms used in this series but it isn’t that bad to the point that I couldn’t even bother to remember them (think a certain magical or scientific glutton or biri-biri). As for the art and drawing style, the characters although it is conventional Japanese anime, they don’t try to anime-ize it too much and maintain that Arabic and Oriental feel to it. So okay, it’s the same as taking an anime character and clad him in turban, bisht (Arabian type of cloak) and sirwal (Arabian style ‘baggy’ pants). Of course some of them look hilarious and downright ugly. I can’t say about the creatures and monsters like as though they are taken from an RPG game. But then again, aren’t the designs of such monsters in those games based on such cultures? The scenery and backgrounds are okay too but nothing visually spectacular. Though we have prairies of Kouga and the lush island of Sindria, it is mainly a desert city of Qishan and Balbadd that takes up most of the background setting. I’m not sure if they made any trivial stuffs inside the episodes like any references to the real Ali Baba or Aladdin stories. So where are the 40 thieves from Ali Baba? Perhaps the Fog Troupe is made in reference to that. Aladdin’s magic flying carpet? It’s right in his turban.

The voice cast line-up is huge due to the many characters. But I’ll be just selective for the main ones that include Yuuki Kaiji as Alibaba (Akina in Yozakura Quartet), Kaori Ishihara as Aladdin (Azuki in Hentai Ouji To Warawanai Neko), Haruka Tomatsu as Morgiana (Shizuku in Tonari No Kaibutsu-kun – Initially I thought it was Minori Chihara…), Daisuke Ono as Sinbad (Sebastian in Kuroshitsuji), Kana Hanazawa as Kougyoku (Maria in Shin Sekai Yori), Kensho Ono as Hakuryuu (Tetsuya in Kuroko’s Basket), Jun Fukuyama as Kassim (Lelouch in Code Geass), Takahiro Sakurai as Jafar (Suzaku in Code Geass), Yoshimasa Hosoya as Masrur (Arata in Chihayafuru), Yui Horie as Yamraiha, Showtaro Morikubo as Sharkkan (Shikamaru in Naruto), Tomokazu Sugita as Drakon (Gintoki in Gintama), Rumi Ookubo as Pisti (Chinatsu in YuruYuri), Ryohei Keiji Fujiwara as Hinahoho (Sven in Black Cat), Ryohei Kimura as Judal (Kodaka in Boku Wa Tomodachi Ga Sukunai), Toshiyuki Morikawa as Ugo (Enel in One Piece), Nana Mizuki as Hakuei (Rina in White Album), Shinichiro Miki as Ithnan (Urahara in Bleach) and Kenichi Suzumura as Kakoubun (Sougou in Gintama). The first opening theme V.I.P. by SID and personally I thought this lively rock piece sounds better and more exciting than the rock outfit second opening theme, Matataku Hoshi No Shita De by Porno Graffitti, which somehow feels carefree considering the pace of where this anime is going. The first ending theme is Yubu Bouenkyou by Nogizaka46 sounds like a children’s choir but it actually doesn’t sound as bad. As for the second ending theme, The Bravery by Supercell, I suppose the rock tune isn’t bad either.

On a trivial note, although it has been mentioned from time to time in the series, somehow I just find it annoying that they keep repeating that fate thingy towards the end. I wanted to avoid talking about this but I guess it can’t be helped. Fate, huh? Sure, dumb people like me still don’t really grasp the concept of fate or how one curses your fate but it’s like they’re trying to remind us about this destiny thing and go make it and fight against those who are against it. Huh? What? Yeah. It got me thinking if everything has been fated from the start, does it really make sense to try and change? Would it even make a difference to begin with? What if that has also been fated? Trying to change fate but in the end you end up as fate preordains. That’s like so sad, right? No wonder lots of lost souls want to curse their fate. And that itself may have been their fate too. Get what I’m saying? Yeah. I’m getting confused to. Whether you believe in destiny or making your own, it is still you who is ultimately making that decision. That’s fated.

The people in chaos. The country in turmoil. The continent in disarray. The world in danger. Threatening the fabric of existence. And all it is going to take is a future king and his troops to save the day. Like an epic story unfolding enough to fill an entire bookshelf as long as your Encyclopaedia Britannica. Just don’t fall asleep halfway through. Heck, do kids these days read bedtime stories? Maybe this one is too epic to be confined to just your ordinary bedtime story. If you’re set for a great adventure story with magic, then I’m sure you would want to stick around when the next volume/sequel/season comes out. If it is fate that has this series another season, then fate it shall be that I will be sticking around to watch it. Whenever I have the time, that is.

Uta-Kata

December 21, 2012

With great powers come great… Argh. Sick of that line already? I know. It was wrong of me to start it with that overused sentence so let me try again. Ahem. Oh, heck. I can’t seem to find the right way to start but anyway if you were bestowed powers from magical deities, would you accept them and use it? At first I thought Uta-Kata was going to be a typical magical girl series. You know. Normal girl gets power, then transforms into a magical girl-type outfit and uses that magic power for something. However as I found out this isn’t your typical magical girl series and you won’t see sparkling bright characters with big sparkling bright eyes and equivalent smile complete with shrieky voice. Instead, the theme is somewhat a little mature and touches lightly on subjects such as abuse and jealousy. Wow. A dark theme. So as we follow the life of this 14 year old girl who over the period of summer experiences this life changing experience. It changes her the more she uses the power. Usually when you get such powers, you should get better gradually, right? What happens if it goes the other way round? Who says being a magical girl is all rosy and cute? Watched too much of such genres maybe.

Episode 1
As narrated, summer always brings back memories of a certain girl for Ichika Tachibana. She remembers a dream of meeting a girl whom she doesn’t know, Manatsu Kuroki. She says they are each other and apologizes for this is farewell. Not that Ichika understood what is going on anyway. On the last day of school before the summer holidays, Ichika narrates herself as a second year student of Kamakura Girls’ School. She makes her way there and meets high school twins, Kai and Sei Toudou who will be her home tutor starting tomorrow. Ichika is grateful for Sei’s handphone charm but he thinks she should throw it away if she doesn’t like it. In class, Ichika spends time cleaning up her school with her friends, Keiko Takamura (nice and friendly daughter of a rich family), Satsuki Takigawa (responsible girl) and Michiru Munakata (expressionless girl with incredible intuition). They are cleaning in a room of an old building when Ichika felt sorry for such a beautiful mirror to be in a sorry state. For that moment, she got spooked and thought she saw Manatsu. Her friends tease her about the mirror. When you stand in front of it, you will see someone else’s reflection. Freaked out? They thought Ichika was trying to scare them back when she mentions she did see somebody. The scaring business is cut short when their teacher calls them for the closing ceremony. After school, the friends hang out together and promise to keep in touch and have fun for the rest of the summer. But Ichika realizes her handphone is missing. She remembers it may have fallen out of her pocket in the room with the mirror when she got spooked. She decides it’s no big deal and decides to return alone to retrieve it. However to her surprise, her handphone is reflected in the mirror but not on the ground in reality! Freaky?! Then she sees Manatsu in the mirror picking it up! As Ichika narrates, it’s the beginning of their destined meeting and separation.

But Manatsu needs her to do a favour and in return will agree to do hers. Ichika doesn’t want to lose that charm so she agrees. Manatsu steps out from the mirror and hands the handphone back to her but Ichika is disheartened that the colours of the stones on the charm are different. Assuring her not to worry, suddenly Ichika is engulfed in light and her clothes turns into a magical girl! Do you believe this is magic? She starts floating and sees a huge deity dude next to her. Manatsu explains he is the Djinn of the Sun. By releasing the power of the Stone of the Sun, she has been granted powers of the sun. Her clothes transformation is proof. The Djinn releases a warm sunlight across the town and this made Ichika ponder does the sun always watch over her town such a way. Next thing she knows, Ichika is back in the room as Manatsu hands her a notebook that she needs to write a report. You see, Manatsu must use up all the 12 stones during the holidays and write her thoughts on the subject. Wait a minute. She’s shoving her homework responsibility to somebody else?! WTF?! Plus, she doesn’t want to do homework since she came to this world to go sightseeing!!! WTF?! Just great. I don’t know how Ichika accepted it. Maybe she had to. Before she knows it, Manatsu introduces herself as Ichika’s pen-pal to her parents and will be staying with her for the rest of the summer. Yeah, they don’t mind and even treat her like one of their own! EEEHHH???!!! Oh, Ichika. Not even the first day of summer holidays and you’ve gotten yourself into something like this. That night when Ichika is asleep, Manatsu pecks her cheek and apologizes for lying.

Episode 2
So looks like it’s up to Ichika to use the stones 11 more times. She asks how the other Djinns are like but you can tell Manatsu herself doesn’t know. Ichika wakes up early for her usual radio exercise at the park and drags sleepyhead Manatsu along. Let’s just say she’s not a morning person. She meets her old friend Maki who introduces her to her boyfriend, Ryou. Ryou seems to take an interest in Ichika and manages to persuade her to exchange email address despite Manatsu’ warning not to give info to strangers (we could all learn something here). Back home, Ichika’s neighbour, the beautiful Saya Kogure passes them. Of course from the way things look and her cameo appearances in certain scenes tells us she is just more than meets the eye. She’s somebody who is watching over the girls. The twins begin their first day to home tutor Ichika. She introduces them to Manatsu and she realizes the one who gave her the important stone. This prompts Ichika to remember how she got them. She saw them near a tree at a park and overheard something about it has been 6 years, it wasn’t Sei’s fault and it was time spent well being free from a spell. Realizing Ichika is around, they mention they are burying time capsules as memories. Sei thought of giving it to her instead and she promised to cherish it. However she fears that promise is broken now and hides the charm. She tells Manatsu that it was supposed to be their secret. So I guess the first day of tutoring didn’t go as planned because Ichika decides to go self study at the library. Let’s just say Manatsu isn’t a library person either… Meanwhile the twins talk and seeing those two together brought back memories of that summer.

While studying alone at the library, Ichika gets mail from Ryou to do something. She chooses to ignore it when Ryou surprises her from the back (he sent that mail since he was close by). Since he’s getting noisy, Ichika has no choice but to leave with him. Outside with Manatsu, Ryou isn’t happy she ignored his mail and that she chose her homework over a friend. What about Manatsu? The cheeky girl notes she’s way cooler than him! Manatsu than lies how she become Manatsu’s pen-pal through the correspondences but Ryou isn’t convinced because Ichika seems like the type of girl who doesn’t talk much. Then it made Ichika realize how much she had lied all this while. She hates liars and worse still, she lied to herself. She wants to leave but Ryou won’t let her as he wants something from her. That just sounds suspicious. Run! Ryou is equally persistent to chase them to a secluded spot and finally grabs Ichika. However Maki is there too (her friend spot Ryou chasing them and called her). Ichika blames her persistent lies that got her into this but Maki isn’t convinced that nothing happened between Ryou and Ichika. She breaks his handphone and doesn’t want to see that two-timer’s face again (flashback shows Ryou was talking about how cute Ichika was right in front of her and her friends! You think she won’t get mad?). Ryou gets rough on her so Maki tells them to run. Ichika thinks they should call somebody for help when Manatsu suggests using the charm. Ichika clothes’ transform once more with the powers of the Djinn of the Moon. Manatsu warns Ryou that with this bright light, somebody will come but Ryou is unfazed. Their saviour turns out to be Kai who is somewhat playing football alone nearby. Ryou thinks he can beat him up but gets kicked in the gut. While squirming in pain, Maki goes to his side and Kai tells him he is a lucky guy that she still likes him. They both get up and leave as Kai advises them not to drag others into their love spat. Later Kai calls Sei to tell him something he never thought possible happened. Ichika and Manatsu go home. Flying. Aren’t they worried people will see them? Anyway Ichika spots Ryou and hears the truth. Ryou thought Maki was mad and wanted Ichika’s help to get her back. Ichika felt relieved.

Episode 3
Ichika and her friends along with Manatsu take a day trip to the beach. Michiru could sense that Manatsu is a mysterious girl. It takes one to know one? The usual fun in the sun but since Michiru’s skin is averse to salt water, she stays put on land to watch their belongings and Ichika accompanies her. After that, Satsuki suggests to get something to eat at the nearby beach house because it is run by her brother. Though they will help him increase his sales, he is short on manpower during lunch hour and no choice has to engage the girls to help out. Meanwhile, Nao Shimizu and her friends arrive at the beach too. When she sees Ichika at the beach house, she decides to go somewhere else. So the reward for the girls helping out is that all the food they eat is on the house. But as Michiru warns about their tummy after all that food, I’m not sure about the rationale of dipping in the ocean. I thought you shouldn’t swim on a full stomach? Only Michiru didn’t have this ‘problem’. Later as they take a walk in the street, they bump into Nao and friends. Ichika knows her because they were classmates during elementary school before she moved away to Tokyo. Though her friends are friendly, Nao warns not to get too close because they’re from a famous rich girl’s school. This statement doesn’t sit well with Satsuki so she thinks she is jealous she wanted to get into their school and failed because she didn’t see her face during the entrance exam. But Ichika corrects her she was accepted instead but urgent matters at home had her suddenly moved to Tokyo. Nao continues to mock this school and leaves with her friends.

While she is floating in the ocean, thinking back about the heart breaking moment she had to move just when she told her dad about her acceptance. Suddenly her leg got cramped and she risked being drowned if not for Ichika and her friends coming to her rescue. Seems it was Saya who pulled the prank because as she mentions, ‘interfering with the one taking the exam is against the rules’. On shore, Ichika realizes her father’s waterproof watch she borrowed is missing. Nao sounds upset because she thought it was like her fault so she says she’ll compensate for it. But Satsuki’s brother points out it’s not an ordinary watch. It costs thousands! So they go diving to find the watch even if it’s way after swimming hours. Ichika and Manatsu get a little distance from the rest so Ichika could use the stone to transform and seek the Djinn of the Earth’s help to locate the watch at the bottom of the ocean. Ichika spots the watch but is out of breath. She won’t let the watch slip back into the sand again and swims towards it. Can she hold her breath that long? In the end, she manages to get the watch although she needs to catch lots of air. Despite all the drama, Nao says she won’t apologize because it’s her fault for wearing something expensive. Satsuki wanted to give her a piece of her mind but Ichika wants bygones to be bygones. So everybody left with some having bitter feelings lingering. Satsuki and her brother talk about their mother and the other man whom they wished he’d just die. Few days later when Ichika is back home, she receives a thank you and apology letter from Nao.

Episode 4
While Sei is tutoring Ichika, she gets spooked by the noise of the barking dog. When Sei explains this neighbourhood is old enough to have its own ghost stories, she starts thinking Manatsu may be a ghost. She did come true the mirror, right? But Manatsu gets freaked out when she hears a tap on the window. Ghost? Poltergeist? Just a bug attracted to the light. Ichika’s mom arranges her daughter as well as Manatsu to do on an outdoor study camp. Seeing Manatsu very lively, Ichika thought she is a ghost of a suicide victim and thus a ghost so Manatsu sets the record straight she isn’t. Part of the camp has the girls split into groups and clean up the dorm they’ll be staying. While Ichika and Michiru diligently clean their room, Tomoko and Yuka laze around while noting how serious Ichika is. The teacher walks in to find the place still not cleaned but compliments Ichika for her hard work. She has them stop what they’re doing since it’s study time. Manatsu thought she could just supervise everyone doing supplementary homework (because she’s not a student of their school) but the teacher isn’t going to discriminate and gives her some. Haha. Ichika feels down because this isn’t the kind of memories she wants to make. So she leaves halfway to finish her cleaning job while Tomoka’s words of her being serious ring in her head. Even doing extracurricular activities, there is this gloom over Ichika’s face. Who could blame her? The pond is so muddy and who would really enjoy the boat ride. A couple of high school boys hit on Tomoka and Yuka.

That night, the teacher arranges Ichika and Michiru to be part of the kimodameshi (test of courage). Michiru can see things, right? Can she? Tomoka notes how boring this activity is without boys and decides to go meet her new boyfriend while Yuka agrees to cover for her. As she waits at the designated place, suddenly somebody pushes her down the ravine. Guess who? Her boyfriend comes by but Tomoka didn’t want him to see her in a messy state and keeps quiet till he leaves. Keiko and Satsuki are paired together in the event and Keiko is just like a scaredy cat. Screaming all the way! This doesn’t sit too well with Manatsu. You can just tell she’s another ‘easy victim’ by the way she is reacting and hugging all over Yuka. But at least this dispels the fact for Ichika that Manatsu is a ghost. When it’s over and bed time, Ichika realizes Tomoka isn’t back yet so Yuka spills the beans and makes her promise not to tell the teacher. However Ichika still has this bad feeling. Meanwhile it is raining and Tomoka can’t climb herself out of the ravine because it is slippery and the mud is rising. Soon Ichika’s heart can’t sit still so she and Manatsu go out in the rain to find her. Ichika can’t ask the teacher for help since she promised not to tell so she uses the stone to summon the Djinn of the Water to help her locate Tomoka. Once she finds her, together with Manatsu they pull her up and back to the safety of their dorm. That night, Tomoka thanks Ichika because her seriousness saved her. She hopes she won’t tell the teacher what happened. Ichika notes how she has been lying more and more since summer started and didn’t realize Manatsu’s heart crying.

Episode 5
Ever since Ichika got home, she can’t helped be bothered that whenever she uses the Djinn’s power, she also receives their sight powers. Of course useless Manatsu doesn’t know a thing. So Kai had to cheer her up by hinting something sight and light. Even the smallest light may reveal a solution. When Kai leaves, he is surprised to see Saya watching from her window. So he returns to tell Sei about it and yep, from the way they react, it’s something worrying. For tonight’s fireworks, Ichika lends Manatsu her yukata. Then they meet up with their friends and head to the beach. Won’t their yukatas get wet and messed up if they play in the salty sea water? Then Satsuki bumps into an old elementary friend of hers, Nozomu and his friend. Satsuki and Nozomu uneasy together… Could it be? So they visit the beach house but Satsuki asserts they are customers. Big brother thinks Satsuki has got a boyfriend but she vehemently denies. Even so, big brother is supporting her from behind to go for it. To kill time before the fireworks, the gang get properly dressed to play in the sea this time. We see Nozomu stealing glances and Satsuki she’s not her usual energetic self. The time for the fireworks closes in and the place is packed with people. Nozomu and Satsuki go buy refreshments. Nozomu wants to talk to Satsuki and hopes she would wait at a certain place after he finishes buying. However when Keiko comes into the picture, Nozomu takes her hand away to talk. Satsuki got tired of waiting and returns to her friends but finds out Nozomu and Keiko haven’t return yet and decides to go look for them. The fireworks are going to start… Ichika is also unsettled so with Manatsu she goes to look for her friends. I guess this only leaves Michiru and Nozomu’s friend, eh? As the fireworks begin, Ichika and Manatsu go under a bridge. Because it’s the best place without people seeing her using the stone power. With the Djinn of Fire’s help, Ichika hopes he could provide his sight to find her friends. Ichika sees Satsuki walking along the street. Straight ahead, they see something shocking. Nozomu confessing he likes Keiko and they both are kissing! When Ichika and Manatsu return and meet Satsuki, the latter tries to put up a strong act and brush everything aside. Eventually it’s better to let all her tears and frustrations out with a cry. Bringing her back to her friends, Ichika sees Kai and Sei so Satsuki wants Ichika to promise not to tell anyone she cried. Satsuki puts up a convincing performance that she never shed tears in the first place. Ichika realizes that even though with such sight, she couldn’t change anything or help anyone. When Keiko returns to her friends, they act as usual. Ichika narrates that despite borrowing the Djinn’s ability to see, she didn’t realize she was also being watched by others. Guess who?

Episode 6
Ichika does Manatsu’s homework regarding the Djinns. However Manatsu wonders if they are her true impressions since they felt somewhat forced. Ichika knows better that ever since she borrowed the Djinns’ powers, it became a painful experience for her and didn’t write it down. As Ichika and Manatsu return from the library, they spot Sei talking to Saya at a shrine. Ichika is shocked seeing them together as she tries to strain her ear on their conversation. Seems Saya mentions that they have nothing to do with each other. Because 6 years ago Sei already gave his answer. Rather, he did couldn’t answer. Sei knew he was wrong but she could’ve asked him directly. Manatsu feels they need to go but Ichika’s necklace gets stuck in the fence. Oh no. The rustling has attracted their attention. Quick! In her haste to run away, the necklace breaks as the beads scatter on the ground. Sei won’t let Saya leave but she warns him anything more will be considered breaking the rules. It starts to rain as the girls take shelter nearby. Ichika is confused why she ran away and more worried about Sei and Saya. Manatsu suggests using the stone. What?! So fast? After the transformation, Ichika finds herself way above the clouds and next to the Djinn of the Sky. It made her realize the sun never went away and soon the rain clears up and brings a smile to her face. Soon Ichika gets a cold and Manatsu stays by her side till she falls asleep. Ichika wakes up to clean her sweat when the doorbell rings. Sleepyhead Manatsu gets up to answer the door not knowing Ichika is naked in the room! It is Sei and he is here to pay Ichika a visit. Gosh. What to do now? When Manatsu brings Sei to Ichika’s room, the ill girl is in bed pretending to be still asleep. Yeah, she’s naked underneath the blanket. Hope nobody pulls it away. But why does Ichika have this dream of confronting Sei about his relation with Saya, naked herself? At least dream with some clothes on! Of course in reality she dare not ask such question. Sei puts his forehead on Ichika’s to check but she feels how cold his is and despite how close they are, felt he was distant. But I guess Sei knows what’s going on because he sees tears welling up her eyes. Before he leaves, he hands a present he got for Ichika to Manatsu. Later when Manatsu learns about her nudity underneath the sheets, she apologizes profusely. Wanting to know what present he got, Manatsu opens the package to see the necklace nicely stringed together. Oh dear. I guess this says it all. He knew she was there. Ichika felt so embarrassed she starts hiding underneath her blanket. She felt she wanted to run away but at that time, she was already unable to do so. Meanwhile Saya continues to keep watch from her home. Empty home. No furniture, no nothing!

Episode 7
Sei can’t believe how close Saya has been to Ichika. He blames himself for everything and doesn’t want Ichika to feel the way he does. Well, Kai thinks it’s himself who should take the blame. Now Manatsu is sick as Ichika nurses her. The doctor is called over but can the treatment have effect for the girl from the mirror? Well, the doctor didn’t find anything unusual except for the usual cold. Before the doctor leaves, Ichika asks about the sickness that involves eyes glowing in the dark. Of course he gives the scientific explanation about the pupils expanding, bla, bla, bla. He also has the romantic explanation that she may like somebody. Haha! Does she? Hmm… But it seems the eye glowing thingy is real because in her dark room, Ichika’s eyes are glowing red! She’s like a vampire! She feels ashamed of wanting to put the blame on Manatsu and breaks down. At that point, she felt she was slowly changing ever since she met Manatsu. She is afraid this unstoppable transformation would take over her. Next day, Manatsu gets better. While Ichika hangs the clothes to dry, she spots Saya in her house and thoughts of her and Sei floods her mind. It’s that gloomy feeling again. In her room, she opens an orgel that contains a pair of earrings her grandma gave to her. She was told to wear it when she’s older. Putting it on for size, she feels it doesn’t fit her. Guess who is she comparing her beauty with? Sei comes to tutor her that night and because Ichika notices him staring at Saya’s house direction, her heart becomes disturbed. Sei tries to change the subject by complimenting her earrings but she got embarrassed and rips them off. Thank goodness her ear didn’t rip off. Though, it hurts. Ouch. It becomes a little awkward for them then. As Sei leaves, he’ll take back the earring for Kai to fix and will give it back to her tomorrow. Ichika requests Kai to come tutor in the afternoon. She can’t say her reasons but it’s a time when Saya is out for work. Or so she thinks.

Next day, Ichika notices Saya has not left her house at all so with Kai arriving, she hopes to change the tutoring place to the library. But Kai doesn’t head there. Instead, he takes the girls to the park for the tutor. He too has his own reports to finish. It is then Ichika reveals to him she likes Sei. Kai also says he likes Sei too! OMG! Is he joking? Well, Ichika’s laughing. Kai hopes she could keep this a secret too. When Ichika says Kai is a bit like Manatsu, that girl strongly denies he is anything alike. Suddenly strong gusts of wind blow their report away. Ichika wants to go look for them (is Kai crazy wanting to write the entire report again?!) but Kai notices Ichika’s eyes glowing red. At a secluded spot, Ichika summons the Djinn of the Wind to help her retrieve the papers. Manatsu assures her whenever she is in this mode, people can’t see her. So this explains why she’s flying in the sky and nobody notices her. As she is collecting the papers, she spots Saya on the streets. Her heart starts beating harder so much so it causes a very strong wind but falls short to be classified as a mini hurricane. It blows Saya into a path of an oncoming car! Oh no! Ichika realizes what she is doing and changes the wind’s direction. Thankfully, nobody died. Ichika shivers at the thought she had done. She felt guilty and vows never to use the Djinn’s power again. Meanwhile, in Saya’s house it isn’t all that empty. At least she has a telephone. And she’s speaking to somebody that everything is going according to plan as instructed and that, that girl can no longer turn back.

Episode 8
Ichika seems to be acting distant. Her parents hope Manatsu can take care of her since this is her last summer here. Manatsu assures she has loved Ichika since then and will not betray her. When Ichika mentions that she wants to stop using the Djinn’s powers, Manatsu is okay with it. Really? As long as she doesn’t want the charm to return to normal. There’s that guilt trip again. Yeah. Since she got it from Sei, it’ll be hard for her not to cherish it. She takes back her words. Ichika dreams that dream again. The one with Manatsu and she always forgets when she wakes up. This time Manatsu’s words become clearer. We hear her apologizing because she’s going to kill Ichika! Or rather… Ichika strangling her?! Ichika meets her friends at school since they’ll be going to the hospital for volunteer work. They see the old building in the midst of demolition. At the hospital as the girls deliver their handmade wreaths, Ichika is about to hand hers to Mitsuki Shirasaka, a patient whom the nurse described as someone with amnesia. Nurses should be patient, understanding and caring like her despite Mitsuki throwing a fit. After giving her the wreath, Mitsuki gets upset that this aren’t flowers despite the wreath being made from dried flowers. In her fit, she bangs and destroys the wreath. The last straw comes when she calls them garbage. This is when something possessed Ichika and her hatred took over. She is going to use the Djinn’s powers and oblige Mitsuki’s wish of dying being surrounded by flowers. Deep down, the real Ichika cannot control her body but only watch helplessly as the event unfolds, her body moving by her own. Calling for the Djinn of Flowers, a whirlwind of petals fill the room, much to senile Mitsuki’s delight. Suddenly she starts suffocating as Ichika finally takes control of her body and stops everything. The nurse is called and Mitsuki starts calling her sister’s name, Shiho. As explained, Mitsuki loves flowers but was diagnosed with some allergy which led to an extreme case of hay fever. Because of the shock of not being able to continue running a flower shop, she tried to commit suicide several times and during an attempt she lost her memories including her sister. So when she called her then, it was as if she regained her memories and there was an air of happiness on her face. Shiho brushes her sight of dancing petals off as her delusion of flowers. So how can someone who loves flowers but allergic to it continue to live with flowers? Have fakes! Ichika doesn’t return home but to the old building to the school. She finds the mirror missing and breaks down as she realizes how she tried to blame Manatsu and a horrible girl she is. That night, Manatsu feels sick and despite receiving words of encouragement of Sei, she felt she doesn’t know what to believe in anymore and began to distrust herself. The mail was actually was sent by Kai and although he clearly knows this is breaking the rule, he is fully prepared to face any consequences. And did that mirror Manatsu came out from is with Saya?

Episode 9
Ichika continues to vomit and feel sickly. She receives mail from Keiko suggesting to go to Enoshima together. Ichika thinks of going and hopes Manatsu will come and keep an eye on her. But Manatsu says not to look at her with those eyes. Although she came out from a mirror and may be a weird person, she still wants to be her friend even if it’s only for this summer. Ichika realizes that Manatsu was hiding things from her just like she is to her. Next day with the friends taking a train trip to Enoshima, they spot a young boy and girl holding hands. Michiru points out it’s her little sister Rui and she saved up so she could go on this trip today with Yousuke. Not wanting to be a family spectator, Michiru gets off the next stop and goes home. When she alights, she sees Ichika’s eyes glowing red and hopes she’s just seeing things. During the journey, Keiko mentions Nozomu had never called her or replied her mails. So you can say it’s somewhat over between them. She wonders if it’s her family background or herself. Satsuki tries to cheer her up that kids are always being dragged around by one-sided adults. This also shortly reminded her of her own tragic past. At Enoshima, I’m not sure if the girls are following Rui and Yousuke on purpose but they’re enjoying the sightseeing too. Sei arrives at Enoshima on his bike and hopes he isn’t too late. Well, guess. If Saya’s there too… At the lover’s bell, a board where couples write their names on the lock and put it here, they see a lock that has Nozomu’s name. And another girl, Minami. It can’t be him, right? How many Nozomus are there in this world? Then the Nozomu we all know pops into the scene with his girlfriend. So it’s true then. Happy-happy aren’t they? Then he sees Ichika. Oh sh*t. He takes Minami and leave but Satsuki slaps him! Not wanting to cause a scene, he takes his girl and leaves.

While the girls take a break, Keiko reveals the mail to Enoshima was wrongly sent by Nozomu. Since she was scared to ascertain it herself, she called her friends. Though she admits she feels relieved now, Ichika could suddenly hear Keiko’s inner voice. She is crying her heart out. Ichika couldn’t take any more of it and runs away. As Saya notes, she no longer has no control over her sight, but her other senses as well. This means the stone starts activating by itself even if Ichika doesn’t want to use it. With the Djinn of Thunder, the lightning strike causes not only blackout to the entire area but anything electronic stops functioning. Ichika thought that bond between people shouldn’t be connected by artificial tools. How about that grandpa with the pacemaker then? Meanwhile Keiko takes this opportunity to cry in the dark. Satsuki also cries along with her after remembering her very abusive father. Ichika sees Rui and Yousuke and the boy feels sad to part with her because he will be changing schools. Ichika finally regains control over herself and the power comes back on. Of course it’s already too late by the time Sei arrives. Seeing her eyes are still red, Sei gives her sunglasses to cover them up. Saya notes how he cheated but it’s still within the rules. I don’t know how far Ichika’s home is but they walk all the way back from Enoshima?! Isn’t Sei tired of pushing his bike? Ichika is still in shock, scared of herself and thus unable to believe. Sei thinks it’s time to tell her the truth.

Episode 10
Suddenly Sei is whisked away by Saya. Sei isn’t happy Saya is going to do the same thing to Ichika what she did to him 6 years ago. Saya says Ichika has taken in 9 Djinns’ power and 7 of them were for experience trial. All that’s left is to watch and see what path she chooses. As penalty, Sei is turned into stone and will only ‘wake up’ once Ichika chooses in the end. What’s this? Kai is Saya’s accomplice? Ichika’s heart continues to waver. One rainy day she goes out to the cliffs with intention to dispose the stone. But as she throws it away, the stone returns to her. Damn. Can’t even get rid of it. There’s only one way left. Is it? Why is Ichika standing on the edge of the cliff? No! Don’t do it! Manatsu’s call startles her and she slips off. What the? Manatsu manages to grab her and they pull each other back up. Taking a breather, Manatsu admits she is not human. Erm… Tell me something that would surprise me, please? Because if she was human, she would’ve been something else. Eh? Say what? She doesn’t want Ichika to die and if somebody had to die, it should be her. That’s why she shouldn’t kill and lose herself. Ichika hugs her. Back home, Ichika faces reality that with 3 more powers, everything will be over. She has decided not to run away anymore. Maybe she wants to end it faster because food now tastes bitter. The family takes a drive to the graves to deliver flowers. Ichika can’t contact Michiru since there is no signal and vice versa. Michiru thinks it’s bad timing. As for Rui, she cheers her up that though Yousuke will be transferring, no matter how far apart and as long as they want to see each other, they’ll definitely meet again some time. The parents talk to the priest and upon learning Ichika will soon be 14 years old, he notes it has been 16 years since that dream. The dream whereby the other child is the child that came from their dream. Eh? What? Flashback reveals grandma came here with the couple to pray for a healthy child. She also mentioned about their strange dream. In that dream, the parents met a faceless Manatsu. Suppose she gives birth to a child and if that child grows up and brings a friend over in summer, will they treat her as one of their own? They promise to do so. And so Ichika was born. Hmm… Maybe that’s why when Manatsu came to stay, they welcomed her with open arms. Ichika has heard the conversation and can’t think that the various things that happened this summer were scheduled by someone before her birth. She starts remembering a somewhat similar dream.

Ichika wants to talk to Manatsu and asks if she is her ally. But Manatsu though she doesn’t want to lie anymore but the rules have it that she can only be her guide and not her ally. If she breaks the rules, she won’t see Ichika anymore. But Manatsu can’t answer Ichika’s question and was instantly rebuked that she’s lying. Suddenly the stone activates the Djinn of Darkness. Using the spirits of the dead, Manatsu fears she may be too late because all the ghosts of the graves are appearing. Thriller? Oh, sorry. Those were zombies. Anyway Manatsu sees Ichika’s grandma and her dog. To her surprise, they are friendly and smile before disappearing. When everything returns to normal, Manatsu thought she would’ve abused the Djinn’s power. Ichika replies it was because she made a promise on that day they first met. No matter how small things are, they shouldn’t lie about important things. Eh? Unless all that has happened weren’t important or what they said weren’t lies… Ichika feels she has always ran away and lied and this time she decided to stand up and fight. Manatsu notes how strong she has become. Back home, Ichika tries to call Sei for the change in tutor schedule but he’s not picking up. Sand people can’t pick up their phones. But Kai picks it up on his behalf and lies he got accepted to a university seminar. Then he quickly hangs up citing he is busy. Saya notes they will soon find out if she will have the same results but Kai remarks everyone is different. Though Ichika felt she has learnt the real Manatsu for the first time, there is little time left before the day of their parting.

Episode 11
This time Ichika has a different dream. Manatsu and bubbles? And herself? She thinks it’s a dream made from her heart and Manatsu’s thoughts. There is 1 week left before Ichika’s family will move to Milan, Italy and they’re already starting to pack things. Ichika wonders what happened to Sei ever since he suddenly vanished that day. She fears she can’t properly say goodbye to him. She gets a call from Satsuki to come to the pool right now. Well, she doesn’t have other plans, does she? Thanks to Keiko’s ‘connections’, be glad they’ll be spending time at the hotel’s pool. Otherwise they’d be cramming with the crowd at the public pool. Since it’s not the sea water, Michiru can take a dip so Keiko asks since she can see things, do sea monsters and ghosts exist. Let’s say Michiru is pretty ambiguous with her answer but enough to send the girls shrieking. This prompts Ichika to ponder how Michiru sees Manatsu. Meanwhile Kai also reminisces about the old times. He too came through the mirror and into Sei’s life. They did so many things together and Sei also underwent all those transformations with the Djinns’ power. When it was time, Saya wanted him to decide but he couldn’t. Since that sort of answer was against the rules, she considered the test as a failure and was about to give punishment when Kai came in between. Kai realized he had only been inflicting pain on him all the while. Michiru talks to Ichika and wants to confirm if she’s the Ichika they know because she has changed ever since Manatsu came. Ichika’s heart starts beating faster and faster but the tension is interrupted when their friends pull a prank on them.

Later Michiru talks to Ichika again and should at least tell each other about their troubles. Manatsu is worried because spilling the truth would be against the rules. Ichika then tells her she is moving away and didn’t tell them because she wanted to spend her last summer like normal and didn’t want to worry them. But this doesn’t surprise Michiru. Their teacher already told them before the summer vacation. However Michiru knows this is not what is worrying her. What’s she talking about? The outage at Enoshima ring a bell? She thinks Manatsu is dragging her deeper into trouble. Suddenly Ichika’s stone activate and she makes a run for it. The Djinn of the Ocean materializes and sends a huge tsunami hurtling towards land. Everyone panics to escape but the girls know they won’t make it in time and accepts their fate. Just watch the ‘beautiful’ scenery, eh? Ichika tries to stop the tsunami. Does tsunami have ears? Because if they do, I’m sure it would stop if she tells it to. Then she gets swallowed. Duh. Manatsu wants to use her powers to save her but Saya says that is against the rules. Screw that! I’m not sure what Manatsu did but it was painful as hell because she’s screaming. The tsunami disappears and Saya turns Manatsu unconscious. Ichika and Michiru help bring Manatsu back when Ichika spots Saya. Michiru asks if she knows that woman because she gets the same feeling as with Manatsu. Furthermore, she is gradually getting that same feeling from Ichika. While walking along, Ichika collapses.

Episode 12
After helping Ichika put Manatsu back in bed, she leaves. After that, Ichika goes over to Saya house. Inside, she is surprised to see the mirror but as Saya says it belonged to her. Ichika wants to know who she really is because she remembers this house was empty and for sale up till summer vacation. She must have deceived her with an illusion that she had always been living here. It was to show her a few things. For starters, Sei in stone form. Ichika blames herself for this outcome but Kai says he is the one to blame. He has also brought Manatsu here as instructed. Saya says Kai and Manatsu are her ‘children’ and do what they are told but Manatsu says when they’re in human form, they are themselves. Saya metes out her punishment to Manatsu by slamming her to the wall. That’s it? As Ichika is being crucified on the mirror, Saya explains Sei and Ichika were given the fate of being a test case for the human race. Say what? Because of children’s innocence and adults with impure heart, that’s why 14 year olds are chosen because they are in between the transition. They are shown through the eyes of the Djinns how they feel and what the world looks in their eyes. Because humans are such vague existences, the 7 virtues said to be the beauty of the mind and soul, when inverted can be the 7 deadly sins. Love becomes resentment, pride becomes temperance, devotion turns to neglect, honesty becomes lies, reason and passion become foolishness and lust, wisdom turns to deception, sense of balance and moderation becomes overindulgence and self denial. Saya mentions she became worse than Sei and ended up hating the human race and herself. And thus the choice that needs to be made: Eliminate the human race or herself. Because the mirror reflects the world, people and beautiful things, Saya will be today’s Djinn and will reflect the truth.

Saya wants Ichika to choose, the choice that Sei couldn’t choose 6 years ago. The penalty was death but Kai went against her instructions and pleaded for his life to be spared. Kai’s penalty was that he will age and die like a human but he is okay with it. But in turn, Sei must give a part of his life, something that Sei agreed to. So what is Ichika’s choice going to be? Thinking back about Michiru’s words before she left how everyone loves her and would like to love Manatsu, Ichika is ready to give her answer. She will choose NEITHER. Eh? Isn’t that the same as unable to choose? You see, no doubt there are people she likes and hates and things about herself she loves and disgusts, she wants to live so that she can change. There is no point if she’s dead, right? She thinks this is what everybody wants too because they want to know about oneself day after day as one’s current self and the world isn’t everything. Though Saya understands her feelings, however by being unable to choose, she has broken the rules and there will be a penalty. Manatsu tries to stop Saya but was flung away. I don’t know how but Sei was strong enough to break out from his stone mode and take the stab of Saya’s scythe. It’s not so bad since it’s just his palm, right? Or is it? Sei wants Saya to kill him instead since he was the one being tested in the first place but Saya says his punishment was decided 6 years ago. Ichika then strengthens her mind and believes all is a lie, there is no pain. It doesn’t hurt. She gets herself out from her crucifix and pulls the scythe away from Sei’s hand before licking the bloodied palm. When the scythe stabs Ichika’s chest, it absorbs her blood. Saya says humans are foolish because they spill blood over meaningless things.

Kai rebukes that she is also a spirit of the mirror just like them and should know better that the human form they take on have strong hearts. Manatsu also believes in that and questions the importance of a mirror’s truth. She believes in Ichika that people can change over time. Manatsu returns the blood on the scythe to Ichika. Kai is going to give back what he had been keeping for Sei. Then a yaoi moment because Kai kisses Sei! OMG! Kai turns into a mirror shard. Manatsu is also going to do the same to Ichika but the latter doesn’t want to. Manatsu assures her it is all just a dream and she’ll forget everything once she wakes up. Now it’s for yuri moment. Manatsu kisses her and also turns into a mirror shard. Of course Ichika knows that this isn’t a dream and what she is experiencing now is just a dream and soon passes out. Saya retrieves the stone and makes the call. She apologizes that the results were unsatisfying but on the contrary, the guy is okay with it. In fact, he is happy with the outcome of Ichika’s half answer. Because to deny one’s own death is the same as denying yourself. He also calls Saya a ‘liar’ because even if a mirror never shows the truth, there is nothing more uncontrolled than a distorted mirror. This is the reason why Saya wants to search for the truth in the illusion. So the next step now is the find the next one. Ichika and Sei wake up the next morning in the empty house. In the aftermath, Ichika prepares to go to school with her friends. Her father has left for Italy but Ichika doesn’t need to go and stays back. She narrates about the memories of a girl who disappeared along with summer and wonders if this life is entirely hers. She is still keeping the mirror shard in her drawer. As they are always being watched and tested by nature and the world, if they can love themselves they see as reflections in mirrors, they’ll definitely be alright. Elsewhere a little girl is reading Snow White and didn’t like how because of the mirror’s truth, the parent and child are fighting. Saya is watching her and thinks of showing it to her. Here we go all over again.

Episode 13 (OVA)
Half a year later as Ichika goes out with her friends, they mention they think saw Manatsu and thinks of calling her to have fun together. But Ichika knows better that she disappeared during summer. Later Ichika sees her mother off at the airport since she is going to Italy to be with her father. Ichika assures her she’ll be alright by herself. This scene prompts her to remember how she also saw Sei off as he went to Germany to study abroad. He also has Kai’s shard and brought it along with him. When she returns, she sees Michiru in front of her house. She mentions that she too confirmed seeing Manatsu and lost sight of her. Rather, it may be she’s trying not to let her see her. Ichika is worried what Manatsu was doing for a week then. Ichika returns home, she is shocked to see her shard missing. Meanwhile over in Germany, Sei is out in town and loses his scarf to the wind but surprisingly Kai picks it up. He’s back! As they spend time together, Kai says he can’t stay forever and that it’s time to say goodbye. Ichika rushes out to the empty house next door but finds the door locked. Then she sees Manatsu before her. However she claims she is Manatsu’s twin sister, Mafuyu and thanks Ichika for looking after her. Too bad Ichika could see through that lie and knows she is Manatsu herself. While they are bathing together, Manatsu apologizes and answers Ichika’s question about her friends seeing her is that she was just pretending and a warm up. She also mentions that she was around Ichika all the time but only because normal people couldn’t see her. So Ichika was worried over nothing, eh? After reminiscing the times they met and the times they’ve been through, when it starts snowing they go out and play in the snow. Ichika receives mail from her friends wishing her happy birthday.

As Ichika and Manatsu are having coffee, Manatsu tells the heart breaking news that she is here to say goodbye. This doesn’t surprise Ichika because she knows this is coming. Her shard is missing and that her return was to give a proper farewell. She’ll be alright because they’ve always been together. They emotionally hug and wish goodbye. Ichika suddenly feels sleepy so Saya appears here to pick her up. She thinks Manatsu should at least say farewell with a smile even if it’s a lie. But Manatsu thinks that will be against the rules so Saya counters that mentioning a white lie. I guess there’s always a way round when you’re an adult. Manatsu gives Ichika a peck on the cheek and disappears. It’s goodbye for real. In the world of mirrors, Kai and Manatsu’s shard return to be one as the mirror. Next day, Ichika wakes up and Manatsu is gone for good. Ichika’s friends celebrate her birthday at her home. Ichika receives mail from Sei wishing her happy birthday. She is delighted to see a picture he sent of himself and Kai. He too is glad to see a picture of Ichika and Manatsu together. Spring arrives and Ichika is now a third year student. She narrates about meetings and partings, how they’re growing up and understand better of each other.

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall…
So the end forever? Well, I’m sure if Ichika and Manatsu can’t continue to be together, at least she has the memories of the time spent with her to get by. For Ichika, the summer must be a very valuable lesson for her because she changed to a different person. From a polite, reserved and honest girl, she suddenly starts to lie and hide about things, something she is uncomfortable with but for reasons that she fears others might get into trouble or offended if she did. That’s nice of her but it proves detrimental because it’s like making a mountain out of a molehill. When you start lying, there is always this snowball effect and it gets bigger and bigger till it is out of control. Ichika becomes emotionally unstable to the point she begins to distrust and hate herself. But because of Manatsu and her friends’ support, Ichika eventually realized that running away isn’t the answer. She realized that she has to stand up and face what is coming. Only then she will know what true freedom is. Unlike a mirror that reflects exactly what you see in it, Manatsu seems to be like the opposite of Ichika.  She is carefree and outgoing and the perfect person to complement Ichika. After all, they are each other’s half although Manatsu is just a mirror’s shard. In the end Manatsu too realized the importance of being Ichika’s friend is. Screw whatever rules and tests because you can’t simply make or buy friendship overnight. During the time Ichika was sick, I thought she was going through her period! I mean she’s showing signs and symptoms of it, right? Vomiting, mood swings, lethargic. All too familiar…

Speaking of Saya, I find it hard to believe that she decides to use a single 14 year old as her test subject for mankind. I mean, it’s like jumping to conclusion for everything after just testing a very small and limited sample. That would be unfair, right? What if she had picked a bad apple? He or she may have a screw loose in the head and wishes for world destruction. Would Saya happily oblige by that decision? More importantly, would that be fair to the other people who are innocent and pure hearted and have nothing to do with it all? Thank goodness she didn’t meet Hitler. Oh, I’m not sure if his mind has already descended into evil when he was 14 years old. I know Saya is giving off this mysterious aura because she’s always there watching you wherever you are but she always speaks of breaking or not within the rules but doesn’t really explain what they are. I believe you’re supposed to guess but I’m too dumb for that. From what I understand is that those mirror shards are supposed to guide their subjects in making their decision of destroying themselves or the world without them knowing their true nature or purpose and also without interfering that would lead them to discover so. Unless every rule breaking warning is in reference to the discovery of their true purpose. Of course there are always loopholes to exploit. But really, who is this Saya person anyway? What gives her the right to pass judgment when one makes or refuses to decide? And who is this mysterious person on the other end of the phone? I hope he is not God. If this is how mankind is supposed to be tested, I can’t imagine how Judgment Day will be like. It just doesn’t feel right that mankind is judged on the whimsical of a 14 year old.

As for Ichika’s friends, they play good supporting role to Ichika but not for the series I feel. Sure, they are minor roles but that’s about it. After getting short interesting flashbacks of Satsuki’s abusive father and the kind of wealthy and protected family Keiko hails from, I thought there would be an episode to delve deeper in their troubles. Then maybe we see how Ichika uses the power of the Djinns to help them overcome them. Guess not. Michiru is also a mystery herself the way she speaks and the ability to see things. Whether this is true or not (because Michiru doesn’t agree or oppose this fact) there are hints that indicate she can tell changes that are happening to Ichika. Or maybe if you’re close to her for so long, you can tell if your friend changes bit by bit. I also thought that she would play a role in the revelation whatsoever. But she’s just like the rest of the friends playing spectator that’s all. Perhaps Michiru knows too well that Ichika should solve this by herself and not get too deep. Only provide a helping hand when really needed. The other minor characters are also something that is left to be desired. For example Nao’s case. So she had her circumstances, left bitter and eventually wrote Ichika an apology letter, so what? Maki and Ryou? Last time we see them, they’re still together. Satsuki’s brother? The siblings did bring up talk about their family but it ended just there. Nozomu? He moved on to another girl. Rui? Long distance relationship for the little ones. Mitsuki? She continues to be a nut case. Most of these little stories are interesting and could be better if they are expanded a little. But I guess we’re more focused on Ichika instead.

As you may have guessed the series tries to address to us about the negative deeds that human can do. From the basics of lying to self denial. Although the negative aspects are what makes us human and interesting, of course too much is never a good thing. Duh. As humans, you need to have the right balance and mix of good and bad traits. Being too good can be harmful too. For instance, you give all your money to those in need and none for yourself. What happens to you? Dead, right? For Ichika to realize her habit of lying is good but she needs to do something about it before it becomes too late. I just don’t understand what was it that possessed her to use the Djinns’ power. Maybe it is her dark side taking over? Well, everybody has that side. So maybe even if she is conscious of what her body is doing on her own, she can’t do anything to stop it because the darkness of her heart is too great or overwhelming to come to a halt that giving oral orders won’t suffice.

There are a few things that I didn’t understand. For example why did Sei give Ichika his charm? I’m sure he fully knows the torment he went through so why pass it to Ichika in the first place? Of course at that point he didn’t know Saya was living close to her but really, if that stone brings back bad memories, why shove it to somebody else? Besides, why was he keeping it for 6 years before finally deciding to bury it? Assuming that Ichika is Saya’s next subject after Sei, what was she doing in between for 6 years? I believe that she may be going around the world to test other kids but from their conversation, I understood that there were no other subjects in between them. So yeah. Why the big gap there? Okay, so assume that there are others in between, then I could only conclude that the other kids have made the choice to eliminate themselves (how noble) or an answer that was neither. That’s because mankind is still around and if those kids really couldn’t decide like Sei, I’m sure Saya would’ve came to a conclusion that kids at that age aren’t good subjects to decide to fate of mankind because so many were unable to choose. It shows Saya didn’t learn from the experiments, right? For the sake of argument, supposed some kid wishes for elimination of mankind, that makes that kid the only one left in this world, right? Wouldn’t that be the same as committing yourself? Nobody else in this world except you. Or… The kid will also die because that kid is after all human and part of mankind, right? Haha. About that dream that Ichika keeps dreaming, what happened to it? Wasn’t one supposed to kill the other? Well, if Ichika doesn’t remember much about it, why should we be bothered about it? Maybe Ichika’s end choice affected this? If she kills Manatsu then it’s like killing humanity? Another mind boggling thing is that if Manatsu came into her parents’ dream, then Ichika’s destiny was already mapped out 16 years ago, right? That’s an awfully long time if you ask me.

Though it is interesting to see Ichika change into different magical girl outfits in each episode depending on the Djinn they summon, however their appearance are too brief and don’t really have an impact. Unless you just love to see their designs but to me they just look okay and nothing extraordinary. Later as I found out, each costume was designed by a different guest artist. Speaking of the Djinns, I thought those huge deities looked like characters that you would probably see in fantasy RPG. Really. I mean, look at their clothing designs. Don’t you think they look like fearsome warriors than spirits? The Djinns’ appearance felt redundant. Do they play any significant role besides showing us visual proof as Ichika uses the power of the stones? Just like Ichika’s costumes, they just appear for a short time and because they don’t move, it makes them feel like they’re just oversized statues that nobody can see. For the Djinn of Darkness, I thought it was quite docile when it showed its powers. Because of his name I thought he would hold some devastating powers. Maybe he does but because Ichika managed to control them so he doesn’t seem to be fearsome as expected. Oh, over the course of the series, you will notice a very small amount of panty shots. It’s blink-and-you’ll-miss kind of scenario. It’s nothing ‘exciting’ if you ask me ;p. Not even the beach episodes despite having 2 of them… Or the pool episode too. With the exception of Keiko, the rest were just like ‘washboards’. Oops ;p.

For the voice acting, I didn’t think they were extraordinary and rather okay. The only one that caught my attention was Yukari Tamura as Michiru. Though she wasn’t putting up her cute shrieky trademark voice, her deadpan and ominous voice still makes her identifiable because she has also voice such mysterious character roles before like Mayuyu in AKB0048, Ringo from Onegai Teacher and Lemon from Ano Natsu De Matteru. The other casts include Youko Honda as Ichika (Katou in Bakuman S2, Mana in Sola), Masumi Asano as Manatsu (Hakufu in Ikkitousen), Maria Kawamura as Saya (Naga The Serpent in Slayers series), Nobuo Tobita as Sei (Tokura in Dragon Crisis), Nobutoshi Hayashi as Kai (Tasuki in Fushigi Yuugi), Tomoko Kawakami as Satsuki (Misuzu in Air) and Yurika Ochiai as Keiko (Konomi in ToHeart2). Both the opening and ending themes are sung by Savage Genius with the opening piece entitled Omoi Wo Kanadete and Itsuka Tokeru Namida as the ending song.

Because of such grim topics seen in each episode and the increasing dilemma and pressure Ichika has to face, you would be forgetting that this is a magical girl series. So next time, take a good look at yourself when looking in the mirror. Do you see what you want to see or do you see the exact opposite? They say it reflects the truth because it replicates exactly what is seen. However the reflection you see in the mirror is always inverse, right? This could mean that even though what you see may be strikingly similar to the truth but it could also mean it is very much the opposite. Ultimately the mirror is just a tool and it is up to yourself to believe if you are a beautiful person or something else. How can others see you as beautiful if you yourself don’t see yourself as one? There is always self denial… Ah, there’s always a way around things. The next time if somebody does come out of the mirror, just be thankful that at least it isn’t Sadako coming out from the TV to get you!
