Leave it to Japan to just make an anime about anything. ANYTHING! And so now which kind of category has been infiltrated by the anime industry? Well, I’m not sure if there were ASMR focused animes in the past but 180 Byou De Kimi No Mimi Wo Shiawase Ni Dekiru Ka is definitely an anime created specifically for that ASMR effect. Yes, even the name of the series raises a lot of eyebrows. Can I Make Your Ears Happy In 3 Minutes? Wow. That sounds so much like a porn title… I suppose it is to bait curious viewers like me to have a look. Disregarding and unheeding my inner voice to go watch something else, I hope I won’t be hearing weird stuffs after being exposed to this.

Episode 1

Especially those who aren’t really familiar in ASMR. So what is one way to do that? Not only you put cute 2D anime chicks but you make their actions to sound so freaking ambiguous. I bet this POV style can turn into a different direction if things get naughty enough. So when you see the female characters doing and saying some ambiguous stuffs, most likely it is to help with the ASMR effect because you know, it is supposed to make you feel good down your nape and upper spine. Not sure if this would give a better effect on much lower body anatomy, if you get what I mean!!! Therefore I am not sure if this series actually made some disservice to this ASMR thingy. I mean, otherwise if you are a big fan of this ASMR, I’m sure you can find it a lot everywhere around the internet, especially with so many YouTubers, some even have dedicated channels for this.

Making this whole thing even weirder is the dummy head mic. Of course this dummy head mic is supposed to represent us the viewers. But when you look at it from another perspective, it just feels totally bizarre that these girls are caressing a non-living object! I mean, hey, the synopsis says these girls are somewhat getting interested in ASMR and their interest in this field growing by the day. So wouldn’t it make more sense that they try it on themselves rather than simulate it on a dummy head mic? It’s like as though they’re practising it to do it on someone real! So it’s like I’ll be going, “Uhm… Yeah… What… Uhm… Okay… That was weird…”, you know, that sort of WTF feeling. I don’t think that counts as ASMR although at some points I may experience a bit of goosebumps because of how cringe this show is. Just a thin line separating ASMR and porn. Still sure that it isn’t my mind in the gutter? DEFINITELY NOT!!!

You wonder if 3 minutes is even enough for ASMR to take place. Sure, with the right setting and all, it could be. But is 3 minutes really enough for it? I mean, it feels more like a free trial. Oh, 3 minutes is up, end of the episode. That will be all for your ASMR experience today. Goodbye. Yeah… Heck, I don’t think it is even fully 3 minutes since the real ASMR actions are just a few seconds short and in between intervals. So if you really want a long relaxing ASMR experience, go looking somewhere else. This is just like free sampling and perhaps baiting to see whether you would get addicted and go find other ASMR videos to watch.

While some of the ASMR topics are rather okay, some are just, well, weird and questionable. Like those city noises. How the f*ck can that be ASMR?! I don’t know, maybe to some. But that feels more like white noise to me than ASMR. I don’t know. Not an experience in this area so I can’t tell. And then there’s making those baby noises. More like WTF?! It’s like catering to those with baby fetish, if you get what I mean! Oh damn, I still can’t forget that stalker experience. Office lady daily life noises, huh? Gee, I wonder if this can fly in court when a real stalker is actually caught red-handed. The ending theme, Chuchoter by Ayumi feels pretty generic. No ASMR effect for this song.

The characters feel shallow. It is bad enough they make ambiguous sounds and actions that perverse the whole thing. Their actions don’t make me see they are enthusiasts in ASMR and are very pretty much forgettable. Even weirder when you think Akimizu practised using this method to make friends?! WTF?! Even bad dating sims have higher probability as practice to make friends! WTF indeed. Yeah. There’s your character development for those who are ever so interested. And I think they’re only going for the numbers because like that bartender and those twins, they only appear once and that’s it. Forgettable indeed. Initially, I was very confused about Akari and Akimizu because both of them have nicknames. At first I thought Gekkou was the name they given for the dummy head mic but apparently I was wrong when I found out much later it wasn’t so. I was also very confused about Akimizu’s name because the credits didn’t listed anywhere so and yet this is how her name is pronounced. More confusion when I tried to Google translate her first name and it didn’t come out an expected result. Must be the case of written X, pronounced Y and meaning Z for Japanese. For a short series to have me get so much confusion especially for main character poster girls, I guess that’s just bad. I guess their cuteness is supposed to distract you from this, huh?

Unfortunately there is nothing else for me to say because this show really doesn’t bring much to me and it mostly comes off as weird. Of the perverse kind. They bait you with cute girls and then they try to make it sound so perverted with their actions and words, maybe some will get that real ASMR experience. But for others, it’ll be straight up erection and ejaculation if you’re weak in your holding game. There are way better ASMR channels out there and if this is anime’s first attempt into trying to cultivate interest in this topic, it did a bad job. Because it will most likely spurn more to go to porn sites and get better sensory response. Can those 3D VR porn be considered ASMR???!!!
