Yakusai Kochou

20 October, 2023

Strangely, after my short stint with Megami Paradise, it recommended me to another obscure OVA, Yakusai Kochou. Not into such supernatural stuffs so why the heck am I even checking it out? Oh… The fanservice… Since it is only a single episode, how much harm can be done, right? No harm trying to check it out, right? Oh boy. I wouldn’t know… Apparently the synopsis is about ghosts terrorizing some university and thus our titular character has to use her sexy and attractive body to defeat them. WTF?! No wonder those ghosts are still lingering as they still have desires of the flesh!

The haunting…
We see some woman returning to Heian University late at night to get back something. You mean she can’t wait till the next day. Thus it is no surprise some ghosts are stalking her. She thought her boyfriend came to her rescue but turns out he is also a ghost! SCREAM! Too bad, this isn’t some B-grade movie!!! Now we hear Kousaku Urano narrate that he is prone to being haunted by ghosts and spirits. Sheesh, even this university he attends, there are many such supernatural incidents already. But don’t worry, he has this hot sexy cutie, Kochou Enoki coming all the way from Taiwan to Japan to study astrology. Don’t forget the baldy professor also from Taiwan, Taichi Kamo who is the astrology club’s supervisor. With the intensity of such happenings getting more frequent, you bet they’re going to investigate what goes behind this. Rounding up the bunch of weirdoes is Kochou’s younger sister, Koran who is shameless when it comes to flirting with Urano, much to her sister’s chagrin. Yeah, use those boobs! I’m sure Urano loves them a lot. Kamo begins some ritual to summon the ghost. Basically, having Kochou strip naked. Okay, okay, if she won’t be in her birthday suit, maybe this sexy revealing dress should do the trick. So as Kamo starts chanting his nonsense, something activates. I don’t know what’s happening but the force is causing Kochou’s boobs to jiggle and the flimsy clothes to come off! Oh yeah! The guys are loving this! Of course it ends when the ghost comes out. In fact, it is some evil spirit in the form of a samurai. Though, he escapes. At this point, Kochou’s clothes completely comes off. Guess whose faces got lots of bruises?

Because the ghost dropped some family crest, Urano and the girls head to the library to do their research ON A VERY ANCIENT COMPUTER! So this belongs to a person named Kiyomaru and apparently there was an arranged marriage between the Tokinaga and Miyasu family. However Kiyomaru already loved another woman and this angered his father. After they were separated, Kiyomaru ran away on the day before the wedding. All the servants commit suicide and their heads put up on poles as an example. The Tokinaga family’s relation with Miyasu worsened and was destroyed. Nobody knew what happened to Kiyomaru. Probably fell into a ditch and died? Kamo pointed out the pool has strong negative energy and it was the exact place where Kiyomaru’s servants commit hara-kiri. Urano and Kochou wait at the pool as Kamo finishes his talisman. But a blonde ghost seduces him with tits and knocks him out. He is about to be killed but luckily Koran returns to save the day with some charm. The ghost turns into a hot guy to seduce her. WTF she wants to get banged?! To her disappointment, he couldn’t last and gets lectured!!! Meanwhile Kochou asks Urano what he would do if he was Kiyomaru. Then he starts molesting and touching her privates. WTF?! To her dismay, looks like a ghost has possessed his body! He will be taking it to hell while letting his samurai servants keep her company. Don’t worry, Kamo and Koran are here to help so Kochou can go after him. She dives into the pool and the only way to get Urano back is to strip naked and crash her crotch into has face! Yeah, that actually did the trick. The ghost then reverts into Kiyomaru who tells the truth that the incident is a combination of the frustration from Kiyomaru who couldn’t marry his lover and the spirits wandering around this area. Kiyomaru actually tripped and died in a ravine when he ran away from home. Now they have to cross over but apparently that takes money to make tombstones for them. So how to make money? These ghosts put up a play for the university and they’re making a killing. The sisters continue to fight over Urano. I believe he is haunted and cursed by more than just ghosts…

Saiyaku Kochou!
Well… That was certainly mediocre! Horrible if I should add. If you wonder why more episodes aren’t produced, it is only because this series was a very short-lived one. Yeah, a manga that only ran for 4 volumes! So for better or worse (most probably the former), the single episode was suffice enough for everything because we certainly do not need such nonsense. I know I have a soft spot for retro animes but this 1997 OVA was just paltry. And to think that there was a live action film that came out in that same year?! Oh man. So they think they can bait some horny viewers with a few paltry fanservice. Sure, it would’ve been a big thing back then. But now looking back, those few scenes with bare tits, they’re just so freaking mild. Thank the spontaneous internet for spoiling us all! The characters are just generic and boring. Dumb if I should add too. Urano being so useless that he’s just, well, useless. Like as though they needed some sort of loser character so that the sisters can shamelessly fight over. Not to say that Urano is a saint either. But just like any other guys, he gets turned on seeing hot sexy tits. Yeah. And to think Kochou’s sexy body is some sort of natural talisman, well, a little weird concept there but I guess at the end of the day, the creator might be thinking that sex sells. Nothing like the body of a hot young girl, eh? Probably that’s who we all will remember Kochou. If we even remember this series at all!

Making this series even more mediocre is the animation quality that is just amateurish. You can obviously see Urano is already looking so plain and the animation quality makes him even look plainer. A bit cartoonish. Yeah, look at Kamo. He already looks like your joker character. But really, the overall quality was just bad and not really worth it. What a waste they wrote a theme song named after this series as the ending theme which actually isn’t too shabby. At the end of it all, it’s a shame that this OVA feels like one of those one shot series trying to make a quick buck and no wonder it is very obscure. I don’t know if it is good or bad luck for me to stumble upon this but now I know that this series is just really sh*t. Heh. I know, I know, there are even way lot more of such obscure titles that are probably worse than this. Too bad Kochou’s sexy body can’t save it and it’s so bad that the ghosts aren’t even haunting it anymore. The series is its own calamity and died a death nobody even knew…
