When you keep forgetting stuffs, there must be something wrong with your brain, right? Oh, who am I to say? I keep forgetting many things my whole life! But anyway… Imagine if you are in love with a girl. But she always keeps forgetting her glasses. For some reasons. And she is as blind as a bat without them. Hence the much needed romantic trolling to for close proximity between the characters. I could only think of that for Suki Na Ko Ga Megane Wo Wasureta. Sometimes forgetting the most important daily item in your life could be a blessing to others.

Episode 1
Kaede Komura tells us that he is in love with Ai Mie, so to be clear we don’t form any other weird conclusions. He sits next to her in class and despite her weird behaviour, he has fallen for her. But one day she seems to have forgotten her glasses. So don’t mind her glaring at you angrily. She’s just squinting. But yeah, how does she even get to school if she cannot see?! As she can’t see clearly and is struggling around, he offers to share his textbook. Obviously with Mie putting her face so damn close, his heart is beating too fast and feeling uncomfortable. I mean, he likes it but damn, this is still too close. Then she also puts her face really close to his so as to see his face. Nah. Couldn’t see a damn thing. Then as he heads home, he finds Mie putting on his shoes?! Wrong shoes of course. Already blind, she was grappling around with the other shoeboxes so I guess she got tired and put on this pair which is his. Which is also too big for her feet. Komura helps find her own shoebox but there’s a frog in it?! Don’t worry, she doesn’t mind. Just not into that slimy feel after that. Noticing her shoelaces untied, he helps to tie it for her. She thanks him for helping her a lot today. She gets close to his face so as to remember him. Nope. Still can’t see. Later Komura learns she lives very near to school and that’s how she manages to arrive safely. He hopes that she would forget her glasses again. Next day, true enough it happened! Actually, she accidentally stepped on them! Oh man, did Komura just curse her! But she is still adamant to play dodgeball! Can she?! Komura wants to take responsibility by standing in front of her. Yeah, got hit. Out you go. In class, Mie totally falls asleep as the teacher calls her name. Komura needs to wake her up but fears touching her. Luckily Komura manages to fool him by claiming she forgot her glasses and that she needs to be this close to her textbook, hence not sleeping. Then she wakes up, takes another close look at Komura and thinks he is her dad?! Is she still in dreamland?! Yup, she then falls back to sleep but this time on his shoulder. Wow, an excruciating moment where Komura wants it to last forever. As Komura gets used to her face close ups, he thought she can’t see his blushing face but couldn’t be more surprised when she claims she can see his face now. Divine retribution?

Episode 2
The forgetful disease strikes again! Actually, her glasses broke, remember? Worse, Mie is on lunch duty with Komura. Can she give exact portions without seeing? Komura once again has to play her support and wouldn’t mind taking over but Mie insists she will do it. So she’s serving stew and giving everyone more potatoes but less meat. Komura wonders if she is keeping them for herself. But she soon says she is keeping it for him as thanks for his help. Lunch couldn’t be tastier. Yeah, the curry lover just became a stew lover. You wonder why Mie has never tried contacts after being ‘blind’ for so long. Well, she is afraid of them. Nevertheless she tries to put them on. Since she is still scared, Komura announces he will protect her even if she can’t see. Did he just make that announcement public? Her smile is the clincher. When Mie has a glasses on, why is she squinting? It’s stuffy outside and it’s fogging her glasses. When she sees a stranger in class, she panics. Komura points out he is one of their classmates. He just had his glasses on. This has Mie wonder if others will recognize her too. It doesn’t matter as long as Komura does. You bet he will. Mie soon exchanges contacts with him in case she needs to call him for help if she forgets her glasses. So this is going to be habitual? Why can’t she ask her family? Too embarrassing. I guess she isn’t with him? And so the first message to meet up in town. Uhm, how she make it here without her glasses? Somehow she lost them?! This means Komura has to hold her hand throughout. Like a date?! At a café, she can’t even see the cake before her and miss?! SERIOUSLY?! IS IT THAT BAD?! Komura jokes he can feed her but she really opens her mouth! Do it! So they head to a spectacle shop to get a pair. After getting her new glasses, she still wants to hang out with him since now she can see him. Date extension! Good thing this isn’t all a dream. Yeah, Komura pinched himself so hard it hurts. A bit sick, Mie wears a mask to school. It fogs up her glasses. When Komura is gone for a while, she now notices the other classmates but can’t help think of Komura. So when he gets back, he is puzzled she is glassless. Uhm, she forgot them?!

Episode 3
Komura seeing Mie acting like a cat. Obviously she forgot her glasses and thought this plastic bag is a cat! Komura resisting to take pictures but feeling pity for her, he starts to meow. To his surprise, she pets him thinking he is a cat before realizing it is Komura. Did you see a kitty around? What do you think? In class, Komura is disheartened to see Ren Azuma helping Mie with her stuffs. Obviously he is a handsome and popular guy. Then when she thanks Komura, Azuma corrects her. This makes her embarrassed because she really thought it was him. Now a serial forgetter, her friends tell her not to squint too much. Next time Komura sees her, she’s having such beautiful eyes. Of course it won’t last long as she is back to squinting. Mie trying to have Komura train her to do shiritori. As it gets more intense, she ends it with his name. Technically she lost but Komura lost in many other ways. On class duty, Komura notices a cockroach next to Mie. So as not to startle her, he has her come closer to him. Then a classmate saw it and screams. Mie panics and hugs him all over! On another day, Mie forgot her glasses but it’s on her forehead! When she realizes so, she accidentally drops it. Now she allows Komura to put it back on but why does it look like she is waiting for a kiss! He manages to do so but after all the flustering and embarrassing feelings. A girl dropped a love letter and Mie picked it up. As she can’t read, Komura helps her. Oh, it’s for Azuma! Then she goes back to class to directly give it to him before everyone! Now everyone is abuzz about Mie liking Azuma and when some ask, Mie doesn’t bat an eyelid to say she likes him. Of course Komura wonders she meant a different like. This makes Komura jealous as he starts to overthink. But realizes in comparison he is nothing as Azuma is better than him in many aspects. So when he tries to ask her, she asserts she does. Though, she can’t understand why so many are asking her this. But she says she is quite attached to Komura so it is not a surprise that she likes him too. Oh, now he is wondering what kind of like that is. Azuma then gives a reply letter to Mie. Can’t read. Do the honours, Komura. WHAT?! Even Azuma is asking him. He peeks into the letter as it says Komura likes Mie. Azuma then clears the air to others that Mie only delivered someone’s letter for him. And Mie is waiting on what the letter says. Uhm… Thanks for delivering the letter?

Episode 4
Mie chose the wrong coffee at the vending machine. Black. She gives it to Komura to drink. Does he not like it? Well, he is more worried about the indirect kiss! Eventually he chickens out and says he doesn’t like it. Komura is late for school. As he runs, he also sees Mie running. OMG, is she running blindly?! Thinking he is a stranger, Komura notes her messy hair but then Mie is worried about it because she doesn’t want Komura to see it. Oops. Hey, how can she see the light is green to cross the road! Mie has been tasked to change the bulletin board flyer. It’s a bit high so she can’t reach. Komura helps but he too can’t reach. Eventually it is Azuma who helps solve it. Komura laments he was only a bit taller but Mie doesn’t want him to get taller. Otherwise she can’t be this close to his face! Seriously? Komura praying to God he won’t grow! During class, some classmates notice a cloud shaped like a heart. But because the strict teacher is telling them to focus and Mie once more forgot her glasses, she gives up. Noting she wanted to see it so much, back home Komura sends her a pic of it and it made her day. Mie brought her glasses but seems to have misplaced it. Narumi Someya calls out to Komura as she has found Mie’s glasses left in the bathroom sink. She then puts them on Komura’s face. Dizzy from the thick lenses, in order to regain his balance he does a wall slam on her. Mie returns and how the heck could she see this?! She tries to push Komura away but she looks so cute in doing so that it’s funny! Komura once more accompanies Mie to the glasses shop as she is going to buy another pair as replacement. As she tries many, she asks for his opinion. Komura is taking this really seriously so he doesn’t want to give half assed comments. Too bad it mostly comes out as lame and generic. He apologizes for not being useful. Noting he is stressed about it, she puts on a pair and gives the nicest smile. This will do. But next day, did she forget her glasses? Well, she slept with it on and it broke. Oh dear.

Episode 5
It’s Valentine’s Day and Komura hopes he could get chocolates from her. Speaking of her, she overheard it! You want what? He fears being rejected means the end of him. But luckily she doesn’t have her glasses, she doesn’t catch on the surrounding theme is Valentine. As they shop together, Komura tries to distract her from the various Valentine offers. But soon she realizes what is happening and puts the puzzle pieces together. Then she asks if what he said then was he wanted Valentine chocolates from her. He thought this is it for him but she says she is planning to give chocolates to her friends including him. So is he supposed to be happy or sad? In class, Mie gives her chocolates to everyone. When it is Komura’s turn, she has given all and has none. She feels embarrassed as Komura contemplates of confessing to her. But then she wants him to wait for her after school. Due to today’s embarrassment, she will do anything he asks for. Anything. In that case, he wants her to listen to him. Obviously he wants to confess but he panics and his voice can’t come out. Maybe next time when he can say it properly and when she can see his face. She’ll note to not forget her specs but then he changes to when he is ready for it. She accepts and will be waiting. Then she realizes she has one in her pocket and hands it to him. Komura vows to confess by next year. Hopefully. A month later, because Mie ate too many chocolates, every girl’s nightmare of gaining weight! So you bet she wants to hold that off and hopes Komura can stop her if she gets the temptation to binge on it. Too bad, Komura can’t give his White Day chocolates now. Then Azuma casually gives it to her. This tempts her to eat one and gives excuse she can’t see and thought is her cough drops. The same thing happens when other guys do the same. When she really can’t take it anymore and is going to eat Azuma’s, Komura gets desperate. If she is going to eat, why not eat his? Perfect timing for his White Day gift. She eats it and puts on the greatest satisfactory smile. Thank you, Komura. He isn’t sure if this is victory or defeat.

Episode 6
Mie has filled up some stamp card and needs to post it. Of course she forgot her glasses and Komura will be happy to accompany her there. However when his friends invite him to hang out at a new video arcade, he turns them down. Mie notices this and soon changes her mind she’ll be okay alone so he can do whatever he wants. So as she tries to get on her day without bothering Komura, obviously she fumbles her way through. Soon he finds out the reason she is doing so as he notes she is trying to be considerate to him. But she also notes that it makes her happy when he is around and can’t help to have him for herself. You heard that right. Eventually he accompanies her to post the card. He too notes he wants to have her for himself. It is the new school term as Komura and Mie will be seniors. Because others note Mie looks angry, Komura realizes only he has gotten used to her glares. He thinks of helping her look less tense. Not sure tickling her hands would help her or make him even more nervous. Because when his name is called to get an award, he starts feeling nervous. But he thinks back of all the great times with Mie, that calmed him down. Yeah, how time flies when you’re having fun. It’s a good thing Komura and Mie are in the same class for their third year although their seating is now separate from each other. While he is at the back, Mie is at the front. At least she has Azuma to help. Yeah, he’s being casual with her. Then she realizes she got her seat number wrong and moves. Now neighbours with Someya, can Komura’s heart rest in peace? He notices she can’t help steal glances at him. Is she worried about him? But soon, Komura’s neighbour, Yuika Hibuchi gets up and talks to Mie. It seems she can’t see well and wants to switch places. Mie agrees. And so, Komura and Mie are back to being neighbours again. But will she be alright? She too has vision problems. True. But she switched because she doesn’t want to get caught dozing off in class! And also not wanting to be caught for looking back at him in class. Is she trying to say something?! Komura is too afraid to ask at this point!

Episode 7
In today’s art class, as usual Mie forgets her glasses. They have to pair up and draw each other faces. So can Mie draw Komura from her memory? Be my guess. Oh my, he looks cute! Or is this how she actually sees him?! Mie may have remember to bring her glasses to day but forgot to take them home and left it right on her desk! So when Komura sees this, he texts her about it. She is okay to leave it there but since it is the weekend and he is worried it will be broken, she gives permission to take it home with him. Yeah, he feels like as though he is bringing a part of Mie home, huh? As he puts it in his room, obviously he can’t focus because each time he sees the glasses, he sees a full vision of Mie. But don’t worry about Mie, she has a spare glasses back home. Afraid it might be dirty, she calls him to check. He panics more. But otherwise it’s a normal conversation. As Mie’s glasses continue to sit nicely in place, Komura can’t sleep. For the entire weekend! In class, a classmate points out Mie has got a bed head. As she didn’t bring her glasses, she didn’t know and now she panics as class will soon start. Will she look bad? Obviously for Komura, she looks cute. She then asks his opinion. Since he says she looks fine, in that case she won’t mind it. When Komura’s shoulders ache, she wants to give him a shoulder massage. I believe it is not her assurance why she is good at it that is making him worry. So he lets her and it is of course better than heaven. Once done, she writes it in her note that this is one of the things she can do for him as he is always helping her. Now he wishes she would add to be by his side in that list. Getting a bit greedy? Mie tries to wake up Komura sleeping in class before it starts. Since he isn’t waking up, she takes a closer look at him. Examining his face, hair and eventually touching his hand. Oh, he is now awake. Oops. Awkward! She claims since she has her glasses on, she thought of taking a better look at him. Uhm… Okay… Still awkward… In that case, he can examine her all he wants. That’s going too far!

Episode 8
On a rainy day, Mie forgot her glasses. Yes, stepped into a puddle. Wet socks. Not really liking it. She takes it off and wants to throw it away. Komura is forced to continue looking at the rain. Mie wants Komura to push her on the swing. Best chance to touch her? But after he gets it going, he realizes she might be exposing herself and abruptly stops it. Their face close to each other. Of course Mie assures she is wearing shorts underneath but can’t help wonder if Komura stopped was because she was heavy! Deep one night, Komura suddenly gets a call from Mie. What gives? Actually she called the wrong number. She is having a sleepover at her friend’s place. She wanted to go to the toilet but couldn’t find her glasses. She went in the dark but gave up and got scared. She thought she called her friend’s number. She wants him to keep her company by singing a song because they saw a scary movie. So the school song is supposed to calm her down? Well, she’s laughing. Komura senses her mom coming and fears she might find out he is still awake. So he starts muttering and whispering to Mie. She gets a bit of a shock as his whisper sounded so close. When the close is clear, Komura keeps her company till she returns to bed. She returns the favour and whispers to him too. Can he sleep for the rest of the night? When Komura follows a stray cat into school, he stumbles into a girl trying to confess to Azuma! Quick, hide! Worse, the cat is with him and purring! Even worse, Mie is coming into the picture! She’s actually looking for the cat! Meow! The cat goes to her and Komura hopes they will stay that way. Too bad the cat goes off and with Mie going to walk into the line of sight of the confessor, Komura quickly pulls her towards him. Then they hear the girl confessing to Azuma but only to be turned down by him since he is in love with someone. But it’s still awkward for Mie and Komura. Though, Mie actually knows what is going on. Komura thinks of going for it someday. Why does it sound like a fancy way of never?!

Episode 9
It’s time for the field trip. Komura’s friends know he wants to be in Mie’s group. Has been looking at her for some time. Now he needs to balls to go ask her. Similarly, Mie’s friends know she wants Komura to be with her. Always helping out when she forgot her glasses, eh? So the friends come to an understanding to join each other and now their group is complete. On the day itself, Mie is running late, tripped and broke her glasses! But don’t worry. She has a spare. Phew. But soon she realizes it is a fake souvenir she bought the last time! Oh my. So Mie tries hard not to be a bother and pretends like as though she could see but obviously Komura knows better. But it gets bad at one point she got lost and separated. Luckily Komura comes to her aid but at this point, she starts crying because she’s always bothering him. Heart breaking. However he assures he likes to help her. Short of a confession but that will do. On the way back, Mie avoids talking to him and he wonders if she hates him for saying all that (including his silly wish of wanting her to forget her glasses every day). Back in school, so as not to bother him too much, Mie sums up her courage to wear contacts. She isn’t used to it yet and needs some time to adjust. When one of her friends is suspected to be in love with another guy, this has Mie ponder its meaning. So, it’s like want to be in a relationship? So next time she sees Komura, she takes a good close look at him. Looks happy when she forgets her glasses. Seeing his embarrassed face, it looks similar like her friend in love. She wonders if this means she is special to him. She smiles noting it would be great if he is. Because he is to her. Would you like to know?

Episode 10
Because Mie has been putting her face too close to Komura’s, Someya gets the wrong idea they are kissing! Of course other students help dispel that misconception but Komura can’t help feel embarrassed by that. Subsequently, Mie continues to actually stare at him point blank while Someya too is watching from afar! Someya then bugs Komura to reveal the truth that they have kissed but with Mie getting into another blind accident, Komura accompanies her to the infirmary. Then she starts talking and asking him about stuffs. Feeling chatty today? It’s because she noticed he has been hanging out with Someya so she didn’t have a chance to talk to him. Oh man, did Komura feel he just neglected Mie?! Then she says she wants to at least see his face once a day. He is fine with that. Look at him as much as you want! Later Mie has her hair stuck in some locker hole. She wants to rip it out or cut it?! Komura won’t allow that and will cut it for her. But uhm, why is he breathing so hard?! And it’s done. Mie then allows Komura to brush her hair and help tie it up. There’s a first time for everything. She drops ambiguous hints about wanting him to brush her hair every morning. At school? Or at home? She’s not confirming it. Must be frustrating for him to be left hanging. While preparing for the cultural festival, it seems Mie wants Komura to take a break with her. Really? Then alone in a room together, she shuts the door. Well, she wants to take a look at his face. I guess today’s quota isn’t met yet. He wants to change the place but she won’t allow him. It’s fine here. He lets her take a good look close up. Well, don’t close your eyes. How else are you going to see her beautiful face?! Could’ve lasted longer because time’s up. Komura, are you keeping time on how long you can stare at each other’s face?! As they return to their class, Komura’s face has some stain marks. Mie’s hands have those same stain marks. See the connection? Maybe Azuma did. Or maybe not. Just go wash it off.

Episode 11
Komura notices Mie looking for something she lost. A piercing? Does Mie have piercings? His mind starts to wander until he notices she doesn’t have any at least on her ears. Then the piercing turns out to be a small bead in which she is going to use it to make some plushie for the cultural festival. As the students make a final push for the festival’s preparation, initially Mie can’t stay late. But Someya continues to bug Komura about the kiss and Mie doesn’t like them being close so she says she can stay much later. But soon, Komura realizes a few missed calls from Mie’s handphone by her mom. When Mie sees the missed calls, she instantly leaves. Komura follows her. He notices she is having trouble finding her own shoebox so she just wears her own gym shoes and leaves in a hurry. Komura continues to be a stalker but it is heart breaking as he hears her cry halfway. After she returns home, Komura knows she will be down tomorrow and needs to do something. So he enters her home and claims to return her shoes. He says he took the wrong shoes by accident and that’s why Mie was late to go home. He leaves as he thinks his act was pretty suspicious. WTF he thinks Mie’s mom is pretty?! Is he turning into a MILF?! Next day, Mie seems to be happy and more importantly, Komura doesn’t look like a stalker so he’ll accept that. The festival gets underway. Komura gets embarrassed as Mie keeps staring at his boring and plain display for a long time. And she has her glasses on! The duo then hang out alone outside as they talk about stuffs. Oddly, she still wants to see his face despite having her glasses. Mie thinks she might have been too demanding recently and could be getting carried away. She’ll hold back from looking at his face. But Komura believes that is not the case and the reason is more of a personal selfish reason. Hence he wants to look at her face too and surprisingly she easily agrees. And so he takes a good look. Damn, it really brings tears to his eyes. That beautiful, huh? Then she mentions how Komura reminds her of her dad since he is a nice person. Is that supposed to be disappointing or a relief?

Episode 12
The dreaded career survey. You bet Komura has no dreams. Mie shares hers but as she shows, he accidentally sees a young Mie in the picture behind. Cute. Although she too claims she has no dreams, perhaps one of them was to become a bride. But sorry, not the kind who will marry her dad! And if she sees Komura as her dad, oh well… Komura goes home and looks through his old albums to see if he had any such old dreams. An office worker. Yeah, you bet he has no dreams at all! Practically he has no memories of it all and no self-awareness until he fell for Mie. During home economics, Mie is paired with Azuma. You bet Komura is jealous and can’t concentrate on his own. Worse, Azuma makes a coin token and other friends start to reveal to Mie about Komura getting depressed about losing a token at the arcade. Amusing. And what’s this about giving all his winnings to mom? How sweet. After school, Mie wants to meet with Komura to give him these token cookies she made. So that dissipate all his anger for today. But she gets worried she might be a bit slow because Azuma hinted something like that. Leave it to Komura to talk positively about her and the confidence he has on her. As Komura still can’t get mini Mie out of his mind, he searches his own photo album. Yeah, embarrassing photos falling off the bars from mom. Somehow he brought that pic to school and it fell out. Azuma sees it and won’t hand it back. Then he lets Mie sees it. Well, she didn’t bring her glasses so she is squinting real hard. After school, she meets him at the park so that she could see the photo. Yeah, now she brought her glasses. Too bad he left it in his desk. Want to go get it? Nah. Instead she has him try to do the bars. Failed at first, he doesn’t want this to be lingering in Mie’s memories and finally does a perfect loop. She snaps a selfie of them and then tries to do one herself. Don’t worry, she’s wearing shorts but Komura still can’t stop nose bleeding.

Episode 13
Mie brought her glasses. Oh, it’s just for fashion so it has no power. She lets Komura try it. She is even willing to lend it to him and has a case. Oh, her real glasses in here. Now they look like they have a matching set! And she won’t allow him to take it off for today! With Mie tying a different hairstyle, Komura can’t help stare at her. Then there’s one time she tied it in a messy way, a rice got stuck on it. He points it out to her but it exposes him that he was staring at her. Since she cannot find the rice, she just untied her whole hair. Then her hairstyle is almost similar to another girl, Komura almost mistakenly identifies her. Mie not looking pleased. Then he realizes staring isn’t all about looking. It’s all about the feel since Mie hints she he has been staring… On the way back, Mie asking things Komura likes. After they part, he sees her talking to an old friend from elementary. Well, they seem friendly. Breaks your heart, huh? This has Komura ponder his place with her is mostly when she forgets her glasses. He fears she might forget him one day. How to make her remember him? Oh silly, ever thought of giving her your photo?! With the holidays coming up, they have to study for the exams. But what is worse than studying for it? Well, Komura claims he has holiday plans with his family. Wow. Mie looking depressed. This has Komura continue to ponder if she will remember him. Because the day she stops forgetting her glasses, it would be the day she forgets about him. Then she has him hang out with her at the playground. So why cram into this small space together? Ah, just to troll us so that they can look at each other’s face this close. Lovely. Then she suggests taking a selfie. Well, at least she has this picture to look back on and remember him. Before they part, he wants to tell her something. Sorry, it’s not a confession but rather he wants to see her again tomorrow. Or sometimes soon. He reasons even if she starts to remember her glasses, he has to make the effort to be by her side. Flashback shows a young Komura did meet a young Mie at a store. Yes, already as blind without her glasses. Apparently a classmate stole it as a prank. From what she said, that boy liked her and wanted to be her husband. Mie thanked Komura for his kindness and assured she has gotten used to forgetting her glasses too. Even so, she thought her husband should be a kind boy like him.

Love Is Blind: Heart Of Glass(es)
Well, nothing much happens. As expected. The usual unfounded worries and anxieties of a certain boy if a girl would forever remember him. Heh. Why worry about that when he should be worrying about how to make her his girlfriend! Isn’t that the best way for a girl to stay by a guy’s side? Or is that too high a hurdle for him? Yeah, considering Mie mostly views him as some sort of father-like figure, I suppose that is good enough for a wuss like him. Status quo. Don’t rock the boat. As long he can see her (pun not intended) for the foreseeable future, he’s okay with it. And since she’s okay with it, so I guess we’re going to be okay with it. And so it is with this strange irony that a pair of glasses or rather the absence of it is what keeps their relationship burning strong.

As shows of this such, there is no solid storyline or plot as we can see that in each episode, it is divided into several seemingly independent skits. After all, a big part of the series hinges on the joke of Mie forgetting her glasses so that we can have Komura panicking and having his usual scatterbrain monologues whenever she gets up too close to him. You think at this point Mie would have done something to address this issue but right up till the end of the season, she somehow still manages to forget them. For obvious entertainment reasons. Imagine if that issue is solved, there won’t be a lot of excuses for close proximity between Mie and Komura. I wonder how it will play out. Because like I’ve said, for most of the part (for better or worse), the main ingredient to keep this running joke is for Mie to somehow forget her glasses. So there is a chance that one might get bored with this formula. Although that it is not every time that she forgets them. But most of the time when the plot calls for her to put her face real close to Komura’s.

Although Mie has given her reasons, the ability to keep forgetting her glasses is just absurdly astonishing. I mean, it is the most important thing in her life and yet she is able to carry on her life without it for the most part. Sure, she got the layout of her home and school memorized. But to think she can actually carry on without realizing her vision is f*cking blurry, now I have to call that BS and crap. Sure, it’s all for the plot as mentioned above. This proves that Mie might be still dreaming and her visions are in dreamland rather than in reality. I understand she might find contacts to be uncomfortable but has she considered eye surgery? Not sure how much it costs and but I also bet the family might not have enough money to pay for such corrective surgery. Your daughter’s future and vision depends on it! Is money the issue here?! Oh sorry, it’s all about putting her face so darn close to Komura and see that guy fluster like hell. So yeah, keep forgetting them. May I suggest Komura to always carry a spare for her? I think he may already have thought about that but I can guess his ulterior motive in not doing so…

So yes, a huge portion of this series focuses on Mie and Komura’s interactions with each other. It is funny, it is cute but sometimes it gets a bit boring because the formula has been done to death. Shall I repeat it again? Just in case you FORGET. Mie somehow has forgotten her glasses. This allows for Komura to improvise whatever shenanigans because this also allows him to be close to the girl he loves but she is so close and without any self-awareness of such close proximity, this turns Komura into some panicky chicken with overthinking thoughts (the supposed punchline and joke) and flustering emotions. A roller coaster ride of emotions. On a side note, Komura could be a great comeback comedian… With so many of such incidents, I believe he prefers the status quo because it gives an excuse to be with her. That’s why he is still so chicken in moving on and asking her out. Sure, a big feat and every guy would fear rejection from the girl he loves. But at least in this way, he can still be with her in the most awkward of positions and reasons. Yeah, love so weird sometimes.

As for Mie, I have another of this conspiracy theory why she keeps forgetting them: She does not! She purposely did not bring her glasses because she wants to be close with Komura! She is actually in love with him! There are many signs and teasers that hint she is. Oh come on! Do you not think a girl like her who has been THIS CLOSE to a guy, not actually take a liking for him?! Or is she testing the limits of friendzone! I think not! Look at how many times she puts her hands on his face! It’s like preparing to kiss him or something! What kind of excuse is that even if it is to look closer at his face! I mean, like in Cinderella’s illogical case where the prince couldn’t identify her face except for the glass slippers she wears, the same can be said for Mie. COULD SHE NOT IDENTIFY KOMURA BY HIS VOICE?! Or does he sound like any other guy?! Plus, even that fatherly comments I believe in a way is not to keep Komura in place but a hint that she might want him to be more than just a father! Do you not think so! Be better than a father. Be a boyfriend and future husband! Therefore I truly believe that she is actually in love with him and she is using this forgetfulness to rely on him so that she could be close to him. That’s the simple truth. It is only because without her glasses, she squints a lot and this makes her look a bit fierce to others. We all know how freaking cute she is with those huge doe-like eyes, no? Yeah, it’s one of those rare moments to be cherished forever to see Mie with such a cute smile! Making Mie even cuter is that when she panics, notice she makes weird but cute sounds? Yeah…

It only makes me ponder how long can this charade be kept up. Uh huh. Is this going to continue way past after they graduate and into college life or working life? Because if so, then I have to highly recommend Mie to get her eyes checked. It would have become more of an annoyance then. Don’t mind Komura, he’ll never get bored with her or see her in a bad light. I just hope when they get married to each other, Mie will bring her glasses or at least wear contacts. Lest she ends up walking down the wrong aisle and marrying the wrong guy! Oh wait. In fact, it’s so funny I want to see it!

There aren’t many other characters in this series. I mean, can’t get in the way of Komura-Mie moments so I guess in that context it is understandable. But even with a few, they don’t really make much of an impact. Like Azuma who is some hot looking guy. You think he is there for some love triangle shenanigans but I assure you that he is more supportive in bringing Komura and Mie together and they don’t even know it. He’s quite a cool cat and perhaps he even enjoys seeing the duo interact with each other for all we know. Then there is Someya who is supposedly Azuma’s female version for love triangle shenanigans. She’s a bit imposing but once again, if you think she is a threat to Komura-Mie relationship, you’re way off the mark. Thus I believe she is there and sometimes being a bit too close to Komura just to make Mie react or do something. Teasing us that she does indeed have feelings for Komura. Oh heck, what are the chances that the whole class and school actually knows Komura likes Mie and vice versa? We’re just too engrossed and focused on them to take notice about that.

Surprisingly, the art and animation of this series is very high quality. Oh my goodness. For a romantic comedy series, they sure put in a lot of effort to make the backgrounds and sceneries look very real. I’m sure they are not real clips and superimposed. Even more so, you can see those air particles floating about. Wah! Such great animation quality! But! I do notice something about the colouring and hues. Although not permeating throughout the series, there are a few scenes in which the colouring and hues are a bit out of place. And it is no surprise that this anime was done by GoHands. Yes, the studio that made the crappy Hand Shakers and W’z (but also the critically acclaimed K). It is this studio’s trademark to make weird colouring and hues. Not as abundant and obvious as seen in Hand Shakers and W’z, but there are such moments. As for the character designs, they look a bit simple and well, child-like. High school kids are still kids, right? Sometimes they look so generic especially for background characters, I thought they mostly look the same. But I can’t seem to take my eyes off Mie’s fuzzy, messy and moja-moja hairstyle. Uh huh. It’s like she’s got a lot of hair on her head…

For the voice acting, looks like I only identified Ami Koshimizu in her cameo as Komura’s mom. Because I was so damn sure it was Jun Fukuyama behind Azuma’s voice. Too bad it is Ryohei Kimura (Tsubasa in Kyoukai No Rinne) and I suppose Jun Fukuyama was too busy voicing a certain vending machine anime in that same season. Heh. The other casts are Mashahiro Itou as Komura (Kyoya in Bokutachi No Remake), Shion Wakayama as Mie (Takina in Lycoris Recoil), and Shino Shimoji as Someya (Ubukata in Renai Flops). The opening theme is Name by Tsuzuri, a generic anime pop rock. The ending theme is much more amusing. Megane Go-round by Masayoshi Ga Megane Wo Wasureta (the duet of Komura and Mie) because it has this jazzy fanfare and Broadway-like feel. A reminiscence of Shinigami Bocchan To Kuro Maid songs.

Overall, I’m sorry that this series failed to break any new ground and the trope of a main character who keeps forgetting her glasses so as to be played out to death its comical and nearly romantic trolling situations, it gets tiring after a while. You hope there would be some progress at the end of it but all those close proximities only serve as an illusion to make us think that they have gotten closer to each other. They’re not. It’s more like status quo since the start. There are tons of other similar animes like this (Boku No Kokoro No Yabai Yatsu, Kubo-san Wa Mob Wo Yurusanai to name a few) so if you like such animes with strange excuses for the characters to be together, be my guest. As much as I want to scoff and laugh at Mie for forgetting her glasses, I have to remember that I’m such an absentminded person too. Hopefully I won’t forget that I have watched this anime by the time next season rolls around! My memory is not that bad! Too bad I can’t even remember what I ate last night… Even more unfortunate there is no cute girl to assist me on that. Or cook for me… My life is so forgettable… :’(.
