Hmm… Where have we heard this before? A character who is actually overpowered in every sense but thinks of himself as weak and not strong at all. Oh right. Mahouka Koukou No Rettousei, right? Sorry folks, if you are like yours truly who are just overwhelmed and confused with all the complexity, then why not have something of the same and similar premise but with a much light-hearted and less confusing setting? That’s right. People, I give you, *takes a deep breath* Tatoeba Last Dungeon Mae No Mura No Shounen Ga Joban No Machi De Kurasu Youna Monogatari. *Taking another deep breath*. Oh boy. That is one heck of a long ass title! Not only had to copy and paste it, I almost suffocated trying to say it all in one line without pausing to take a breath. Heh. Just kidding. But I don’t think I have seen an anime title that is this freaking long (without the second title, that is). But yeah. I guess with the title so freaking long, I suppose it’s another hint this is going to be a funny show, right?!

Episode 1
Lloyd Belladonna sees Marie the witch since he will be staying with her for a short while. However she puts up a tough act that he must sacrifice what he needs to seek most, blah, blah, blah. When she learns he comes from Kunlun and his master is Alka, oh boy, she’s getting scared. He takes out an orb and now she panics. Because here is a projection of Alka who is her master. Wow. Look how fast she grovels at her feet. Alka wants Marie to take care of Lloyd while he takes the exam to get drafted as a soldier. Yes ma’am. Next morning, Lloyd cooks for her as he tells her his dreams of becoming a strong and brave soldier like his brother, Shouma. He thinks he has a lot of training to do as he is the weakest in his village. But Marie soon doubts that because he came all the way here on foot, defeated monsters whom he identified as animals and can easily use runes that took her years to master! Oh sh*t! I think she’ll die of retorts at this rate. Lloyd is in the city and saves Selen Hemein from a giant grasshopper. I know it’s the alley but gee, nobody else around? Because it’s cue for Selen to fall in love at first sight. Back home, Selen contemplates in taking off her belt that covers almost her entire head. Flashback shows she was cursed and hence she got the nickname Belt Princess. She couldn’t care less anymore and takes off her belt. Nothing happens. Is it because of love? Merthophan, one of the military instructors looks through the potential field of candidates. Among them is Riho Flavin who is a violent mercenary. She was told to join in order to get all her warrants on her cancelled. Then there’s Allan Toin Lidocaine who comes from a family with many combat honours. He doesn’t like Selen joining this since it hurts his chances of promotion? Oh well, honest guy at least. Riho meanwhile is afraid of Lloyd sitting next to her! What monstrosity is this?! She thinks he can kill her in one move. But as Lloyd talks to her, she gets pushed away by Selen who is of course so happy to see him. And she’s yandere to Riho for talking to him… Riho realizes that there is some money to make with this country boy and noble so she’ll stick around. Lloyd and other candidates undergo the tests. On the day the results are out, Alka and Marie are chilling and believe Lloyd will pass with no problems. After all, he is from Kunlun, the village where ancient saviours of the world rest as it is located outside the world’s dangerous dungeon. Don’t count your chickens because Lloyd’s name isn’t on the list…

Episode 2
Riho and Selen are shocked and looking around that Lloyd isn’t enlisted. Did he fail? Even Merthophan! Choline Straze explains their Azami Kingdom is on the brink of war with their neighbour, Jiou Empire. One of the factors is the disappearance of Princess Maria Azami. Their mission is to find her and the reward is not only money but any other wish granted. Guess who’s going to take on this mission seriously? Lloyd tries to find a part time job as a cook at a diner owned by Chrome Molybdenum who is an ex-royal palace guard. He thinks Lloyd is some spy out to kill him. He is on his toes 24/7 thinking that what every normal thing Lloyd does or say may have some hidden meaning to it. Even this normal cooking of his. Chrome hires him so as to keep an eye on him. Meanwhile Choline sees the test paper that supposedly Lloyd failed. Hmm… Why did he doodle on them? Those aren’t doodles. Those are ancient runes! For a person who knows runes, he knows very powerful magic. Quick! Find him! Lloyd returns to apologize to a shocked Marie and Alka he failed! Alka wants to wipe out the kingdom?! Lloyd wants to stay here so he can retake the exam next year. He assures he has found a job and will pay rent. As he goes to cook, Alka and Marie talk about the serious escalating war between the nations. They believe the puppet controlling the king will make his move to declare war during the upcoming national festival where many foreign officials and heads of state are invited. Alka reminds her that they are only to intervene with epic disasters like demons invading and not petty human squabbles. Marie mentions about some disenchant rune she learnt 5 years ago but Alka warns her not to get hasty or even drag Lloyd into this. Do so and she’ll take him back to Kunlun. Because Alka increases her curse each time she curses, I guess Marie can’t take it anymore and drops the orb in the well! Bye, loli grandma. Merthophan and Riho are at Chrome’s diner discussing about their plans when they notice this place is teeming with customers and clean. The food tastes good too. Wait till they see Lloyd as the new cook! Don’t choke! Care to explain, Chrome? As Lloyd takes out the trash, he heard a monster fight nearby. Turns out to be Allan trying to fight and teach Selen a lesson for beating up a pervert trying to hit on her. When Selen’s belt has a mind of her own and deflects Allan’s attack, she thinks this is Lloyd’s blessing. Speak of the devil, here comes Lloyd and she’s going into orgasm mode just seeing him. Merthophan wants Allan to fight Lloyd as to see how great his power is. Confident Allan gives him a handicap and lets him punch him in the face first. A reluctant Lloyd takes up that offer but before his punch could connect, Marie whisks him away.

Episode 3
Marie tries to lecture Lloyd about doing such reckless stuffs but his innocence just keeps pulling her heartstrings. After Chrome tells Lloyd to return to work, Chrome talks to Marie and he knows her. He explains about taking responsibility and keeping a low profile after losing the princess and is secretly trying to investigate what made their king changed. Marie also tells him about the impending war declaration with Jiou and needs his help. Selen and Riho visit Marie’s place since she is an info broker but look who is there? Lloyd!!! Oh Selen… Is this really fate you keep bumping into him in such unexpected places. Of course she’s not really keen after learning he lives here… The duo talk to Marie about the missing princess. Due to Marie’s suspicious body action, Riho senses something amiss and could guess who she is. Marie thought Selen was trying being convicting in revealing the truth. However it was just to ascertain if Marie is Lloyd’s wife! Rest assured not. But Riho thought she heard Marie confessed she was the lost princess!Just hearing things… And then Lloyd too thought Marie is a secret hero who protects the kingdom in secret. He wants to help her but she tells him off he is not strong and will only get in the way. This breaks his heart as he runs off to his room. Despite the lies, Marie comes clean now and admits that she is that missing princess, Maria. She then tells them about Lloyd hailing from Kunlun. Its no-interference policy means that if Lloyd intervenes, he will be taken back. Doing so would mean dashing his dreams. They also discuss the order of looking for the princess, bring her back dead or alive. They believe the culprit behind this issued this order to stop those who oppose the war from using the princess as a symbol of peace. As this makes it harder for Marie to move, Riho and Selen agree to help her.

Later as Marie ponders about using Disenchantment on father, here comes Alka to surprise her! Oh sh*t! She wants to commend Marie for not getting Lloyd involved but as for throwing the orb into the well, well… She’s not mad. Just put a stronger curse on her. OH SH*T!!! Also, Alka will be taking Lloyd to the festival. And it’s part of her ploy to cheer up a depressed Lloyd. Isn’t Alka just being horny?! That won’t be since monsters start attacking the place. Meanwhile Chrome seeks the king’s permission to be reinstated into the military but Merthophan dismisses him. Chrome then explains all the happenings up till now and deduces that he is the culprit behind this. Merthophan didn’t even bat an eyelid to admit that. With the other ladies hearing this, time to move in. But the king has turned into his true form. Or at least the one possessing him. Merthophan thinks he was the one who turned the king into the puppet but gets owned by the king. On the contrary, Merthophan was the one who got controlled by him. He gets turned into a monster. While the rest keep him at bay, Marie confronts her father. She could’ve dealt the finishing blow had not the culprit use the dirty tactic of putting on her father’s face. Feeling nostalgic, huh? Marie refuses to give up seeing she hasn’t apologized to Lloyd yet and it is her royal policy not to show her back to the enemy. But she is in for some shock as the culprit reveals himself to be Demon Lord Abaddon. The world will soon be his.

Episode 4
Marie is mad Abaddon didn’t reveal this sooner. Because it would’ve saved her all the trouble as Lloyd can get involved with this. RIGHT???!!! So she runs away to find him. Speaking of Lloyd, he stumbles into Allan cowering. He admits he was afraid to fight monsters so Lloyd relates those same feelings to him. Allan is in disbelief when he sees Lloyd so nonchalantly flick away those bugs! How can Lloyd say Allan is way stronger than him?! At least he isn’t so nervous now. Merthophan owns Chrome and Riho. What about Selen? She is going to bait herself as a victim so Lloyd can come rescue her! Merthophan attacks but her belt helps keep those claws away. Oh, here comes Lloyd. After hearing what happened, he lectures Merthophan about what it means being a soldier. It worked! Oh well, you’d expect an overpowered guy to have overpowered words too. Until Lloyd thinks Merthophan was drunk and started attacking people in this strange cosplay. Yeah, back to being a monster again. This time a single flick knocks him out. Now here comes Marie. Both apologize to each other as she lies about already disposing off the Demon Lord. Hence this jerk is some perverted guy showing up to harass her. Asking Lloyd to use his trick on him, Lloyd then uses his handkerchief with runes and wipes away his face. And that is how Abaddon got defeated. As the festival gets underway, Lloyd is happy to reunite with Shouma who heard all his exploits. But when Alka comes by, Shouma is nowhere to be seen. Hmm… Chrome ends up enlisted in the military, Merthophan is sent to some outskirts town to retrain under Alka’s guidance, Marie decides not to go back to her princess life since her father is recovering and should be able to rule again and Lloyd finally gets enlisted in the military due to a recommendation. Alka x Selen rivalry on the cards over you-know-who. Alka wants to place a curse on Selen but realizes her belt is made of the skin of a divine beast, Vritra. This belt is a legendary artefact from Kunlun that protects its wearer from all evil. Allan is also here to want to become Lloyd’s disciple. It was him who recommended Lloyd and due to his subsequent hard work that day, he was asked for a reward.

Episode 5
WTF?! Lloyd just pulled out a real holy sword and ruined some old bugger who has been using it as some tourist attraction?! But it’s time for the inter-school games. Choline is pretty motivated to get Azami out from their losing streak against arch rivals Rokujou. She lets everyone practice to see which category they’ll participate but since Lloyd destroys all the dummies and might kill real people, sorry boy, you can’t participate. Marie is visited by the Quinone sisters, Mena and Phyllo. They are from Rokujou who will be participating in the games but she knows they are mercenaries. They are looking for Riho. Then Lloyd comes in and immediately Phyllo throws her punches and kicks. No effect. Lloyd thinks she was trying to hit a fly! Because of that, Phyllo wants to be his disciple! She’ll do anything for him! Oh no. Not another rival! Marie kicks them out. Riho learns that Choline really wants Azami to win because of her bad blood with Rol Calcife who just became the headmistress of Rokujou. Apparently she also knows Riho because they’re from the same orphanage. It seems Rol is a sneaky and greedy person and she hints if Riho doesn’t come home, she’ll stand to lose her home. This makes Riho angry but she’ll hear her answer during the event day. And Phyllo for Lloyd too! Oh Selen, better be careful! Lloyd has noticed Riho being down so she asks Marie for advice on how to cheer her up. Oh Marie, it’s not you who he wants to cheer up! So yeah, the answer was a date. Riho explains her story that began at the orphanage. Rol had a knack for magic and taught her a lot too. This include giving her a prosthetic mithril arm to help out. Then she learnt the truth that was to use mithril to boost her magic abilities so she can pull the holy sword out. That in exchange for her life since the mithril sucks up her magic too. This is the reason she ran away. Lloyd somewhat relates to her and promises he’ll always be by her side. Selen too. Sure not jealousy talking? Both schools hold a demo match the day before. Popular Micona Zol offers herself to fight Phyllo but gets quickly owned. Lloyd tries to help her but she thinks he is insulting her for he can’t do anything by himself. She runs to Marie to get some treatment. We can tell she has a crush on Marie. She’s relishing her delusions until Lloyd returns. And with Marie interacting so well with him, it’s a sad tragic fate for Micona. The games begin as Riho vows not to run away and face Rol. She will not do as she is told and still protect her orphanage. Chrome then announces the prize for the winner: The holy sword! SAY WHAT?! Meanwhile poor Micona so alone and depressed, here comes Shouma to listen to her woes.

Episode 6
Since this changes everything, looks like Rol will become a student to participate. In that case, Choline will let Lloyd enter too. You cheat, we cheat too! But Riho has a favour to ask from Choline and that is to teach healing magic. First match pits Selen against Phyllo. Selen thought her belt would save her but it did nothing. So she is reduced to running and complaining. So when the belt finally does something, Selen gets confident and fights back. Too bad she gets disqualified since physical attacks aren’t allowed in this magic battle. Next, Lloyd against Mena. Mena tries to drown him. Uhm, he can hold his breath like, forever! She tries other magical distractions but Lloyd tries to cast her magic and his slip of his tongue has Mena self-destruct! Oh sh*t! Lloyd wins. Last match, Riho vs Rol. The latter seems to be winning at first but it’s just a ploy to get her close and guard down so she could unleash a devastating magic. Don’t worry, the healing magic she learnt helped heal her arm. Riho is about to cast a very high grade magic. But it’s just her bluff since Rol got scared till she fainted. Rol dreams of a voice telling her to get the holy sword. Doing so means her wish will come true. Hence she isn’t stopping here yet. Learning Lloyd has the holy sword and that he is living with Marie, she has Phyllo go kidnap her for ransom. As she isn’t being specific, Phyllo sees Marie prostrating before the orb (because Alka cursed her to stomach ache every 10 minutes) so she thinks the orb is Marie’s precious and steals it. Marie is in the toilet as Lloyd returns. He sees a ransom note if he wants his precious back, come to this place. Lloyd arrives and Phyllo wastes no time in wanting to fight to the death. Lloyd gets serious if it means telling where Marie is. So they’re doing arm wrestling? Whatever. Phyllo learns he is from Kunlun and gets even more pumped up. Arm wrestling so devastating it’s causing a turbulence! Allan tries to protect the holy sword from Rol’s henchman but Mena knocks him out. She isn’t after the sword but to obstruct Rol since she called her sister a tool. OMG! Arm wrestling now in the air?! How the f*ck does this work?! Anyway, Lloyd somehow wins. Phyllo wants to marry him now! And Marie? Still in the toilet, I guess. Rol curses her luck when Alka pops out from the orb. Both hate each other but Alka blasts her away thinking she is trying to get in her way for Lloyd. Despite being the enemy, Allan goes to save her. Rol recuperates well in hospital but some old Dracula guy, Sou manipulates her memories to keep his identity a secret. His goal is to take the holy sword to unlock the last dungeon and most likely kill Alka.

Episode 7
Selen is sad that for the break, she has to go back to her family home. She thinks of bombing the place and return to Lloyd?! Sorry girl, he too has his own plans. Lloyd returns home to see Marie and Alka fighting over Lloyd’s holiday plans? Sorry ladies, Chrome has introduced him to a friend of his so he’ll be away working at some resort in the woods. They can’t come because he fears he might rely on them. And so Lloyd meets Coba Lamin, the hotel’s owner. He explains there are people falling into comatose state although there are no fatalities. That’s why he contacted Chrome for help but he referred to Lloyd instead. Lloyd is introduced to Kikyou who will be her senior. She makes him do all the cleaning but before she can finish talking, he is done! Coba then has Lloyd do a bellhop job. A very troublesome customer has just moved in, Threonine. He sounds grumpy but instantly clicks with Lloyd due to his honest opinion about the forest. That night we see Threonine talking to Kikyou who actually works under him. They are also investigating the comatose cases but suspect Coba to be behind it and that he is doing some illegal treant cultivation. Then there’s some Demon Lord’s sapling from a treant that was stolen and brought here. It could be the reason for those people in comatose state. Kikyou suspects Lloyd for this so Threonine gives her some potion that will expel the treant inside. Before she could give it to him, Coba drinks it. Kikyou thinks her gig is up and escapes. It is then Coba also suspects Kikyou and come to think of it, the incidents only happen after he hired her. Riho seems to be having her holiday here. So she messes around asking for some room service massage, well, well, well… Here is Lloyd for your massage service! Oh course she declines his service for obvious reasons. Not because he can’t please her, mind you! He tells her about the incident so she agrees to help. Soon, Selen and her father, Robin also book into this hotel. It seems he is making her undergo some arranged marriage. It is with Allan who is Threonine’s son. Even if this fails, she can use this as practice for future arranged marriages. So as both sides meet but waiting for Allan to show up, Selen is already having plans to kill Allan! And when he comes through that door… It’s Lloyd! Instantly she goes lovey-dovey on him and takes him away to the storeroom to door illicit things. Sorry, it’s not that kind of hotel! Flashback shows Allan spent too much time in the bath so he passed out. Threonine had Lloyd take Allan’s place while Riho covered for Lloyd’s job. After telling her the incident, Selen suggests they go on a date while investigate this to make it less suspicious. Great idea.

Episode 8
You bet Selen wants to go on a real date but with Riho around to remind her about their job, no fooling around. Surprisingly Shouma is here to deliver firebombs (Selen, you ordered them?!). Lloyd introduces him to them but looks like he has got to go. Lloyd and Selen doing their date undercover. Selen thanking her cursed belt as the reason for meeting him. Lloyd feels he has not accomplished anything but rely on others, Selen notes he helped many without realizing it. When Selen leaves to get drinks, Kikyou thinks it’s time to move in on Lloyd. With pretence to teach him how to massage, she puts the potion on him. Hmm… No treant expelled. What if… It’s in his dick?! Before she could rub there, looks like she has to deal with Selen. B*tch fight! Kikyou does a suplex on Selen but nothing happens. I guess with dumb Lloyd not realizing what’s happening, this diversion allows Kikyou to retreat. Then they soak in the hotspring. Oh damn, Marie and Alka here too? Even Mena and Phyllo? Mena claims they’ve been hired by Azami to investigate this and also transferred to their school. Yeah, they’re classmates now. They talk about this treant thingy and with Lloyd so eager to stop this, yeah, everyone gets a free show of his dick! Phyllo senses someone watching them and throws Alka in that direction. Barely missed Kikyou. As she regains her composure, the treant culprit turns out to be Threonine’s secretary, Minoki. She is so frustrated all her efforts were for nothing that she fell into his trap. Even though Lloyd is here, he thinks Minoki is doing cosplay! WTF?! Even ranting about taking over the world and sending his treant clones to attack, he still thinks so?!

Meanwhile Threonine, Coba and Robin are discussing about the treant trading, which isn’t illegal unless cultivated illegally. Robin claims they’ve been doing business with a representative from the Lidocaine family but Threonine is unaware. That’s when Minoki barges in to attack and admits the coma incident is his doing but luckily the girls are done with their bath so it’s action time. Too bad the treant’s skin is thick. I guess that’s when the firebombs come in. Though, it’s just doing minimal damage. A slab falls on Robin. She tries to save him (shouldn’t her belt have some strength?) but he tells her to escape. She won’t and reveals there is someone she is in love with. Cue for Lloyd to come save the day before a slab falls on her. Yeah, he throws the slab away like as though they’re just twigs. Marie tells Lloyd the truth. Yeah, that’s no cosplay. Only Lloyd can find the core and end this. He does so and the treant dies. Easy. Lloyd is happy he defeated his first monster. Meanwhile Shouma is glad Lloyd has become powerful. Alka is not pleased about something with Shouma and it is hinted he is working for that man. Although he understands its implications, he is now free to do anything since the holy sword is out. Next day, Alka uses up a lot of her energy to repair everything. From fixing buildings and altering memories. The least she could since she wasn’t at the monster fight. Robin accepts her daughter path and also hints Lloyd to take care of her. So you mean he accepts their marriage!? Not so fast, Selen!!! Alka wants to be pampered by Lloyd since she too has done her share of work. Lloyd can massage her right now. Okay. Go ahead. Alka is expecting the best time of her life when Lloyd does a suplex on her!!!

Episode 9
Shouma brings Micona to see Sou. Because she hates Lloyd so much for taking her love away, she wants to kill him. They give her a few powers up and before they could finish explaining, she devours them all. A painful transformation into a monster but she feels the power welling up. Lloyd and are called by the king to rid of a giant snake residing in a nearby dungeon. As they head in, WTF Selen and Phyllo interrogating Riho if she is in love with Lloyd?! At the same time, Alka is trying to look for Sou and stop him so she drags Marie with her to the dungeons. Nothing like just breaking down walls to get where you want, eh? As Marie looks around, she stumbles into Micona in treant form. She learns why she is doing this but gets the wrong idea Lloyd and her lover whom she assumes is a guy, is having some gay relationship! Micona then tentacle rapes Marie. Oh yeah. Now she doesn’t want Lloyd to come but here he is. They both fight as Micona can’t believe his incredible strength. She doesn’t even believe him when he reveals he is from Kunlun. She mocks him for having friends, the reason why he gets hurt (yeah, he was protecting the other girls who just came into the scene). Lloyd begs to differ as his friends made him stronger. Another round of epic power and of course Lloyd eventually wins. When the snake pops up, turns out he is friendly and knows Lloyd. Lloyd doesn’t remember him since he was still a baby. This snake is Vritra and a guardian beast of Kunlun. He escaped here because Alka tried to skin him alive to make an apron! Can’t blame him for still being mad at her. But as for who gave Micona the treant powers, Sou shows himself to admit that. He asks Lloyd if he wants to become a hero. But here comes Alka trying to stop him. With Vritra still mad at Alka, he lets his guard down as Sou destroys a seal inside him. Vritra is his target after all. With Vritra dead, Alka as well as Kunlun will become weak. However Alka’s power still remain and she still beats him up. Why? Vritra still lives via Selen’s belt! Sou escapes but vows to unseal Kunlun and unveil the last dungeon. In the aftermath, Allan has been credited for killing the snake. He tries to decline it all since he did nothing but the king thinks he is being humble and a model soldier. With everyone now looking up to him, the king even gives him the title of Dragon Slayer! Oh sh*t! Before Lloyd and co could celebrate their mini party, Alka is here to take them to Kunlun.

Episode 10
An exhibition match between Azami and Jiou is suggested to show that their ties are improving. And thus Allan lucked out and is force to participate. Don’t worry, Mena will train him good. Because of that, Chrome and Choline get to follow Lloyd and co to Kunlun. Along the way, they meet up with Professor Eug who is of dwarven royalty. She will be the one helping to restore Vritra. Blame game starts as Eug accuses Vritra for leaving the dungeon although Alka is an idiot. Alka blames her since it was her idea to make the apron. They finally reach Kunlun as our non-Kunlun visitors are in shock to see the citizens use their overpowered abilities like normal! Oh sh*t! Chrome and Choline take this chance to go see Merthophan who is working in the fields. WTF he’s talking about human faeces as great fertilizer?! Oh Choline, this is the guy you fell for?! He’s totally changed! Anyway, he still feels guilty for participating in the coup and that’s why he won’t go back to the military. Besides, he loves his agriculture life here. More Selen shenanigans as she tries to get Lloyd’s family to approve their marriage. Too bad the kids turn those papers into airplanes to shoo away a giant dragon pest!!! And Phyllo in shock after learning the martial arts she based on is just a mere aerobics exercise of Kunlun… The village join in the celebration to celebrate Lloyd’s admission into the military. Yeah, don’t be shock all the food are monster based courtesy from Merthophan’s hard work! At the end of the day, the villagers ask the curious question of which girl Lloyd likes. Damn, some recommend Riho and some recommend Phyllo. Yeah, they somehow scored more points than you, Selen! Later we see Alka and Eug talk about something series. Something about Sou might want to release demon lords for his own ends. Also, something about Vritra regaining his memories and who knows what he’ll do once that happens. Aside the side distraction of Selen and Phyllo ganging up on Riho who just wants to make money from all the expensive gifts the villagers gave her but had to be tied up when Lloyd accidentally sees her naked (and they also send Lloyd flying into the night sky), Merthophan apologizes to Marie for what he has done. He also explains that it all began because a travelling salesman (Sou) gave him a mysterious egg in which he presented to the king. Some strange fumes came out of it and the next thing he knew, he was driven by strange impulse and stopped worrying about his actions.

Episode 11
The gang are here at the last dungeon. Eug explains the truth about this last dungeon. Sorry Riho, there aren’t treasures in here. This is actually a place where all the demon lords are sealed. Hence in the event if they get out, that is why the people of Kunlun are tasked to stop them. Dwarves built fake dungeons all over the world to hide this. As Vritra and Alka are protectors of this place, whenever Alka takes damage, she can transfer it to Vritra. The key to open it is the holy sword but since it is safe in Azami’s treasury, I guess it’s okay. Eug begins the resurrection of Vritra. Uhm, this looks like preparation to cook a stew… Once done, Alka loses her powers. This means she is weak and can get hurt. Marie relishes revenge but Alka still hasn’t lost her deadly aura. Revenge can wait… The gang prepares to head home but Eug wants to talk to Alka privately. Suddenly Eug pushes Alka into a pit and locks her there. Eug reveals she is in cohorts with Sou and Shouma. She didn’t resurrect Vritra but sealed him. Now that she knows where the holy sword is, all that is left is to get it and unlock the last dungeon. Then, Eug tells Lloyd hasn’t arrived at the portal yet and must be lost. So as Lloyd goes to look for her, everyone passes through the portal and returns home. Eug seals the portal so it can’t be used for at least a day. She is surprised that Merthophan is here, though. Deliver vegetables to Marie? Well, happy Choline wants to date him and leaves it to Chrome to set the exhibition match. Suspicious Riho talks to Rol about the guy who asks her to get the holy sword. Sounds pretty much like Sou even if she can’t remember much. But she also remembers there’s a child behind him who makes clicky sounds. Riho suspects that is Eug. As the preparation gets underway, Riho spots Sou, Shouma and the visiting king together. Knowing this is bad news, she talks to her king in hopes to postpone the match. But she can’t say why. But learning that she is friends with Maria, the king treats her with lots of hospitality because he wants to know how Maria is doing. Yeah, his daughter hasn’t been talking to him since. Meanwhile Lloyd has found Alka. He couldn’t find her in town and started searching the forests. Because of this predicament that was similar to his (and a reason why he wanted to become stronger), this led him to find her easily. Alka tells him the truth. Since the portal is broken, Lloyd has to carry Alka on his back as he hastily leaps his way back to town.

Episode 12
Alka puts Lloyd in a cannon and fires him back to Azami. That would be much faster, right? As the exhibition match begins, Allan is shocked to find Micona as his opponent. She’s in monster mode too. Sou then makes an offer to the king to become allies in conquering the world. With Jiou’s technology on weapons and Azami’s finance, it is possible. However the king declines after his experience of making his daughter go through. In that case, Sou signals to Eug to release grasshopper monsters to take the citizens hostage. Nobody is worried. Because the people can fight back too! Meanwhile Merthophan fights Shouma with his legendary agricultural tools? Shouma clears the misunderstanding that he isn’t bored of the countryside. He is bored of the world. Because he doesn’t want Lloyd to feel that way, he sets things up so he could become and realize his dream. Everything he does is for Lloyd. In the end, Merthophan is still no match for Shouma. When Allan cuts off Sou’s arm, it regenerates. And is he made out of tentacles?! Sou reveals his true nature as he was a hero made from runes to save the world from destruction. He was supposed to disappear when the world was saved but that did not happen. Hence he is bound to this world as some half-baked hero and in time his existence started to fade. Thus appearing differently to different people. His goal is to die and to do that, he must kill Alka and let somebody take over his hero role. Speaking of which, here comes Lloyd. This kid thinks (as told by Alka) that Eug failed Vritra’s revival and hence ran away!

He wants to destroy the sealed egg but Eug summons a giant golem. It then takes Micona as its power source. Although Lloyd fights it, the golem regenerates. Holy sh*t. Lloyd having trouble fighting the golem. And gets beaten up?! We’re in trouble! Damn, Lloyd got time to wallow in his own uselessness?! Is he giving up?! Not until Merthophan jumps in to lecture him about his dreams. Marie deduces Micona is helping the golem to regenerate but how are they going to get her out? Riho claims she has Marie’s panties for her! The power of horniness has Micona break out! Lloyd back on his feet, easily destroys the golem. Selen steals the egg from Eug. Then she lectures and educates Vritra about Lloyd. Yeah, he can’t stand it any longer and breaks out himself from the seal! No wonder Eug is so shocked that all the impossible happened. Eug calls for Sou and Shouma to help but they are busy cheering on for Lloyd and recording his heroic acts! Now it’s time for Alka to come in. Eug vows to make something powerful to control the last dungeon and remake this world. Of course Alka disagrees to that and will stop her as long as it takes. With enough drama today, Sou and Shouma take Eug away. Alka’s lucky day. Not her day to die. Our baddies cheer on a very confused Lloyd to expect more villainous deeds from them in the future. With Azami safe, the usual shenanigans of fighting over Lloyd begins! This is a tough battle. But Alka vs Selen fight will have to be postponed for now. The gang is all here to enjoy Lloyd’s cooking, right?

Suppose It Is Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A (Last) Dungeon But That Would Still Be The Wrong Anime, RIGHT?!
So can I assume that for now the world is a safe place as everything remains status quo? As long as Lloyd is around and doesn’t lose sight of his dreams, right? Perhaps once Lloyd acknowledges himself as a hero, then everything will truly end. Otherwise if Lloyd can’t accept himself as a strong person, what are the chances that other people will? Oh heck, I think they would. Right after they see his incredible strength! Seeing is believing. So yeah. It all boils down to Lloyd’s self-confidence. Until the next time evil plans to wreak havoc, have fun with your friends and stay stronger in the military. Speaking of the military, did Merthophan finally decide to give up his agricultural dream and return to the military? Did the military provide him a plot of land to do his farming? In that case, win-win! Oh damn, Merthophan realizing his dreams faster and better than Lloyd…

I guess I shouldn’t be complaining about the relatively simple and straightforward storyline. Heck, there isn’t actually any real storyline in terms of the overall plot of the series. So much so, the single season itself is separated into small mini arcs and it is easy to follow and understand. Silly and fun to say the least. They don’t require much thinking power so once an arc is done, we can move on to the next. Not much to bring forward to so it’s relatively easy on the brain. Yeah, I’m saying this and looking the story side on a very positive note is because I can’t help compare this series to Mahouka Koukou No Rettousei. So forgive me if you are going to hear me comparing both animes a bit more here. So without a very confusing and convoluting plot to follow, you can see why I really do enjoy myself here even if the story itself is pretty generic and cliché. You know, bad guy wants to take over the world or change it in a way to reflect his true goals and desires? That trope has been overused and done to death ever since the dawn of the film making era.

As for the characters, they’re all quirky in their own right. It is with mixed feelings that some hover the grey line between funny and annoying. For instance, Selen herself as the big guilty fish of it. I know they want to write her character in a way that is portrayed to be a love stricken girl over Lloyd. However this has become more than just a running joke and at points it makes Selen look more like an annoying b*tch because of her incessant yapping about Lloyd. Lloyd this, Lloyd that. It makes you want to tell her off to shut the f*ck up but the fear that she might just beat the sh*t out of you because in the law of yandere Selen’s morally righteous world, talking anything negative about Lloyd is not only a sin but also a crime punishable by death! Okay, she didn’t say that but her actions do give off that kind of implication. Of course, this is all to add to the comedy and funny factor of the series. But like I’ve said, they’ve done this way too much and now it’s become a staple and trademark for Selen. Each time you see her, you might probably go, “Oh boy. Is she going to fawn over Lloyd again like before”. Yup. 99% chance she would. Hey, at least no incest like a certain sister in Mahouka Koukou No Rettousei. Or are you disappointed because there is no incest potential?! But I sometimes have this fear she might turn into Mirai Nikki’s Yuno… Any time now…

Then there’s our main character Lloyd. Again, this dude is giving me mixed feelings but I don’t actually feel as annoyed for his character as much as I did for Selen. At first, Lloyd being an overpowered character may not sit well with viewers who have been force fed with lots of crappy overpowered clichéd characters from many isekai animes. I don’t blame you. It’s taken a toll on us. But yeah, this anime isn’t isekai so don’t go hating on it totally. Anyway, you want to loathe Lloyd for being so easily overpowered but it is hard to hate him because of his purity and innocence. Yes, people. This are the 2 main factors why I don’t really hate Lloyd. He is such a child-like character and being pure and filled with innocence in his words and actions, if you have a shred of humanity inside you, you just can’t hate him. Then what about all those other overpowered main characters in other isekai animes? Despite not as pure, innocent and child-like, aren’t their cause and ideals of justice valid and don’t deserve that much hate? True. But maybe that’s why too. Not as pure, innocent and child-like as Lloyd. In a way, it makes Lloyd a retard. But definitely when you see him easily fling away tough enemies like flicking away measly flies, your jaws will definitely hit the ground! Thankfully my jaws are still intact. No dislocation either. Phew.

In a way, Lloyd feels better than Tatsuya who is the main character from Mahouka Koukou No Rettousei because the latter feels emotionless and too serious. With Lloyd’s innocence, this makes his overall disposition and cheery and positive one. A really nice kid that you can approach to and talk. Lest you one of those really trained fighters who can see his scary tiger aura or something! Yeah. Unlike Tatsuya who just feels stiff and seemingly hard to approach unless you’re in his circle of close friends, if you know what I mean. But still, his seemingly retarded personality may be annoying at times because when you wish Lloyd has grown up or mature a little but he is still that pure innocent kid and that takes the vibe out of seeing his character grow.

I guess the other characters are also okay in their own right. Like Marie and her eternal spat with Alka. It is like the series’ other running joke because Marie can’t seem to own Alka and always gets punished in the end. One day, she relishes the chance to get back at this loli baba. Payback with interests! High interests! But for now, that remains only a pipe dream. Like many of the female characters here, they all love Lloyd in their own ways because what else can there be if you intend to make this a romantic comedy harem, right? Is this considered a romantic comedy harem genre? It’s no surprise that many of the girls love him because of his strength as well as his honest to goodness, goody two shoes personality.

Alka thinks she is powerful enough to flaunt her shameless desires on Lloyd but plot convenience means she won’t have it her way and yet again, Lloyd’s chastity is saved! Then there’s the other retard, Phyllo. She sounds like she’s on par with Lloyd in terms of personality. No qualms in asking him outright to marry her but I guess all she wants is a really strong man so she could become stronger. Thankfully, the so called rivalry in this mini harem didn’t go overboard and is more or less settled into just small moments to laugh at. We know it won’t be a big deal affecting the story, right? RIGHT?! That’s why I think they need to distract us with Choline having a crush on Merthophan. Yeah, those characters don’t really matter in the long run but it feels like to show us that Merthophan has turned over a new leaf and the reward is that Choline can be true to her feelings for him. Not a big deal that would affect the story, right? RIGHT?!

Riho isn’t romantically interested in Lloyd but she gets thrusts into situations that would make one get the wrong idea, hence earning the wrath of Lloyd’s front runners like Selen and Phyllo. It’s all about the money for her but what are the chances of this sensible mercenary falling in line for Lloyd too? Nah! On a trivial note, it is because of Riho’s name, I started doing a little simple research to satiate my curiosity. Yeah, the female characters are named after some sort of nutrients or vitamins. Not sure if the author has some affinity for those but yeah, I guess it beats naming girls using flowers or gemstones or other typical Japanese girl names.

Then there’s this fall guy whom I always consider Allan’s character as. This guy is just bad luck, I think. I believe he is also quite a good and reasonable character. However with Lloyd’s actions that indirectly impacts him, he has gained some sort of notoriety and getting credited for things he did not do. All he wanted to be is a good soldier and learn from his master, Lloyd. But it soon escalated into something bigger. Now he has more made up titles that people so nonchalantly give him, than the number of presidents the United States have! HAHAHA! It’s no wonder he starts to get traumatized from all these. But it proves that he is just a simple good guy because he doesn’t really want to bask in the credit that he doesn’t really earn. Just too bad that he has to bear this unfortunate fate. Keep holding in there, Allan. This is your trial and test to see if you can become a good soldier. I hope.

At first, one thing bugged me about Shouma. I thought he was actually a ghost! From the initial snippets and his seemingly random interactions with Lloyd, it triggered me to start overthinking that he may be more than what he seems. Because it’s like he appears before Lloyd and then disappears! Okay. What does that tell you? Could it be that Shouma is dead and because Lloyd can’t accept his death, hence these visions he sees of him are just his hallucinations! Damn. What a wild conspiracy theory! Of course all those were just hallucinations of mine and once Shouma was confirmed to be working with the enemy, the enigma surrounding this character just died out like that. Yeah, it would be sad to see Lloyd fight against the brother he looks up to so much. But don’t worry. As assured by Shouma himself, he’s doing everything he can for the sake of his little brother. Sou feels a bit refreshing as a villain because he is just playing the part of a villain to attain death. But is this the only way to go about? Can’t Lloyd be a hero in other ways and Alka not die? Not sure. Didn’t live as long as him. Eug feels like the true villain but she lacks the power and resources to get it done. For now the trio each have different goals and are just working together as a marriage of convenience. It remains to be seen if they will break up and go their own ways if they can no longer get what they want as a team.

The few action scenes here feel comical especially when Lloyd comes into the picture and turns the tough fight into an effortless toss. Uh huh. Sometimes it reminds me of the few action isekai series when the overpowered character comes in. Some having me thinking that the overpowered character would finally meet his/her match. Only to have the fight ended so easily and in a jiff! WTF?! Even so, somehow it doesn’t feel so bad here because we know Lloyd is already so overpowered so if he comes into the game late, it means it should be over as he quickly takes care of it. Now that we are already so flabbergasted with this easy peasy scene, Lloyd’s innocence and oblivious to the true evil and thinking this is all something else makes our jaws drop to even lower depths! I mean, this guy still thinks those grasshopper monsters are just mere pests?! Who is the teacher responsible for Lloyd’s education!? Is it you, Alka?! That what makes him a continuous retard but at the same time can’t hate him because he’s so innocent and lovable. All in all, the so called fight scenes are more enjoyable than Mahouka Koukou No Rettousei because instead of spamming magic terms and the likes, just simple raw brute force from Lloyd. Don’t need to drag out the fight for another few more episodes. No siree. It’ll be all over in a jiffy. And you can count on Lloyd smiling after that. Like as though it’s all no biggie to him. Ready to drop your jaws for another time?

The art and animation of the series feel a bit cartoony. How should I put this? When I look at the animation style, it somewhat reminded me of Last Period: Owarinaki Rasen No Monogatari. Both anime series have that same feel and vibe, if you get what I mean. From the character designs that range from cute to cartoony, even the colouring and hues are vividly bright and colourful. Like as though this animation is also intended for kids. Of course the theme is not intended for kids when you have depraved women like Selen who wants nothing but to get into Lloyd’s pants. To put it in a very crude but honest way. This anime is done by Lidenfilms who did Yamada-kin And The Seven Witches, Hataraku Saibou Black, Hortensia Saga, Koi To Uso and Kishuku Gakkou No Juliet.

Voice acting is pretty okay. I recognized Ai Kayano as Marie, Satoshi Hino as Merthophan and Haruka Tomatsu as Mena. The other casts are Yumiri Hanamori as Lloyd (Nadeshiko in Yuru Camp), Natsumi Hioka as Alka (Tsukuyo in Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism), Madoka Asahina as Selen (Kominami in Bokutachi Wa Benkyou Ga Dekinai), Minami Tsuda as Riho (Yui in YuruYuri), Miku Itou as Phyllo (Miku in Go-toubun No Hanayome), Seiichirou Yamashita as Allan (Kosame in Appare-Ranman), Mao Ichimichi as Choline (Bada in ClassicaLoid), Katsuyuki Konishi as Vritra (Fuegoleon in Black Clover), Taketora as Chrome (Jerome in Killing Bites), Yuko Sanpei as Eug (Kazuya in Tsugumomo), Souma Saitou as Shouma (Tatsumi in Akame Ga Kill), Takaya Hashi as Sou (Inuarashi in One Piece), Naomi Shindou as Rol (Shizuru in Mai-HiME), Natsumi Fujiwara as Micona (Mao in Shin Chuuka Ichiban), Haruka Yamazaki as Kikyou (Aika in High School DxD) and Shouto Kashii as Coba (Dead Wing in The Reflection). Haruka Yamazaki sings the opening theme, Tatoeba Sore Wa Yuuki No Mahou, a rather generic anime pop piece. Feels the same too for the ending theme, I’mpossible by Luce Twinkle Wink. I prefer the short BGM that is the trademark of this series. You know, the one that supposedly sounds like a Venetian song with that typical accordion tune that gives you that nice and soothing feeling like you’re chilling out in an Italian piazza? Yeah. That one.

Overall, this is a fun and simple series to enjoy. Only when you compare it to that, wait for it, Mahouka Koukou No Rettousei. Simpletons like me are able to enjoy the show without earning a headache in the end. But for more sophisticated and ‘cultured’ viewers who want to see a lot more than this mediocrity, sorry you guys are going to be disappointed by the simple and cliché plot, the simple and quirky characters that are all mostly played out for laughs. You’re not supposed to take everything seriously, people! And all naysayers and haters of overpowered main characters are only because you can’t do an ounce of what Lloyd does. Sure, he can do them easily but at least he can do it! And remain humble! We all should learn a thing or two for this kid. But alas, just like the last dungeon and the village of Kunlun, a good and non-toxic person that holds no grudge only exists in fairytales and folklores. Yeah… But yandere people like Selen very much exist in real life! Yikes! Sure, this anime might not be that good or a masterpiece but it’s still passable and not that bad. Yeah, typical middle fence answer of mine. So… Suppose it is possible to have more animes like this we can simply enjoy but without feeling too cliché its tropes and judging too much?
