It is every guy’s fantasy to date the hottest and most beautiful girl ever. And even get lucky to sleep with her. And that is how Keikenzumi Na Kimi To Keiken Zero Na Ore Ga Otsukiai Suru Hanashi (AKA Kimizero if that is too long ass for you to pronounce or remember) baits viewers like yours truly to take a look. Not only posting a pretty chick on the poster but hinting the possibility of having sex on their first date?! Oh wow. It’s got to be more than that, right?! Of course, veterans like yours truly should have known better. How this kind of genre plays out. It’s just your pretty average love story of 2 people from 2 different backgrounds as they genuinely grow closer with each other. Add some misunderstanding and jealousy for the drama and you’ve got it all covered as a typical romance series. Sorry folks, don’t get your hopes up for any sex. Yeah. We guys can only dream…

Episode 1
Ryuuto Kashima is your typical loser and girlfriendless kid. Obviously he is in the same class with the school’s most popular and charismatic girl, Runa Shirakawa. Obviously all guys dream of dating her and what’s this? She’s a horny woman?! One day while hanging out with his equally loser pals, Yuusuke Ijichi and Ren Nishina, they make a bet that whoever among them scores the best will have to do what the worst has to say. Eh, what?! Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Yeah, I bet they want to penalize him. And true enough, Ryuuto scores the best so those losers tell him he must confess to the girl he likes. Not wanting to betray his friends, he puts a letter in Runa’s shoebox and initials his real name (so as not to sound like a creep). She actually turns up. He is embarrassed like hell but manages to eke out his courage to confess he likes her. Embarrassment at all time high, he wishes she would turn him down but surprise motherf*cker! She accepts him to be her boyfriend! The biggest losers are Ryuuto’s pals. They must be so dead now as Ryuuto snagged the grand prize! Runa and Ryuuto walk home together as she allays some of his fears that she is a faithful person when she is in a relationship and that she too has her own limits on the guys she likes. Like she doesn’t like those who don’t wipe off their sweat? Uhm… Okay… Whatever… Ryuuto still can’t believe this is happening and claims he has never dated before and has no experience whatsoever. No worries. That’s the reason they’re dating, right? To get to know each other. Things are moving fast as she brings her back to her place and her room. TOO FAST BECAUSE SHE STARTS UNDRESSING AND THINKS HE WANTS TO HAVE SEX!!!!! OMG!!! SHE IS CASUAL ABOUT IT AND THINKS IT IS WHAT BOYS WANT???!!! Unfortunately for us viewers, virgin boy turns her down because he wants a meaningful relationship. He wants to wait till the time is right. Then as they talk he realizes that it could be that it wasn’t Runa who broke off her relationship with previous guys but rather the guys got bored of her and dumped her. So did they have sex or not?! I don’t know about those guys thinking if she is willing to have sex on the first date, this means she is easy and hence they don’t want her. WTF LOGIC???!!! WHY DIDN’T THEIR LIBIDO TAKE OVER???!!! So she agrees and if they really carry on like this, they may actually really fall in love with each other. And don’t worry about Ryuuto go screwing other girls if she refuses to let him have sex. Because he has no other female friends! So just let her know when he is ready and she’ll be there for it. Oh wow. Such great sex service. Now Ryuuto is regretting it he should’ve laid her!!! You had your chance!!!

Episode 2
So now Ryuuto’s pals learn about what happened on his first date and already lecturing him he should’ve laid her? Yeah, that makes Ryuuto the biggest loser, huh? Since Ryuuto wants to keep their relationship wholesome for now, the friends will let him live this dream for a while seeing nerds like them don’t even have the luxury to get close to such popular girls. With Runa continuing to talk more with Ryuuto, this makes them stand out and noticeable. Especially those death stares from Runa’s friend, Nicole Yamana. So Ryuuto talks to Runa about this to keep their interactions in school less. This means hanging out together during weekends? She invites him to go out with her and so sorry, it’s not to a love hotel. It’s just shopping for clothes. Got your hopes a little high up there, huh? She notices he wasn’t into the shopping but he claims he was more distracted in watching her shop because she looks cute doing so. It makes him happy. Wow. Sounds like cringe but look at how she is blushing. Since Runa is often busy attending to any messages on her handphone, not sure what logic Ryuuto has to think that this relationship is not going to last. Especially when she calls him to meet the next day. Yup, he thinks they’re going to break up. It was good while it lasted. So as he prepares to face reality as he faces her, she surprises him with a matching handphone cover set to celebrate their first week anniversary of dating. Gee, so is sex available for a decade long anniversary then???!!! JUST KIDDING! Anyway, Ryuuto is so happy but also feels ashamed he didn’t trust her. He is glad to have her as his girlfriend. Along the way home, he tells her he once tried to confess to a girl in middle school but she turned him down as she only viewed him as a friend. She thinks it is fine because had they started dating, theirs would never have materialized. When a sports car zooms past, Ryuuto gets all nerdy explaining it and realizes she is left in the dust wondering what the hell he is saying. This has Runa explain that just like a sports car, she wanted to grow up fast like her parents but it never worked out and that’s why all those breakups. She might try to look mature but is still a kid at heart. Ryuuto assures her that sports car aren’t just for speed. It is to make the driving experience fun. So Runa is like the sports car he likes? Weird but okay. As long as they have fun. Yehh, wanna ride her?! What am I saying?! Next day, the class gets a new transfer student. Maria Kurose looks familiar? She is that middle school girl who rejected Ryuuto. Oh…

Episode 3
Ryuuto hopes she doesn’t recognize him since it’s been a while. Yeah well, here’s an empty seat next to him. And yes, she remembers him. His obvious tactic is to stay far away from her if he knows what’s good for his relationship with Runa. But now he bumps into Nicole and she still looks mad. She has him hang out with her just to tell him about Runa’s birthday next week. Yeah, she’s mad he doesn’t know. But whatever. Just get her some presents. He asks what she likes and instead of asking Runa herself, his intention is to surprise her. When he meets Runa the next time, it seems in her circle of friends, they have posted a recent pic of him and Nicole hanging out, looking like they’re dating. Is she jealous? But Ryuuto explains this birthday stuff so she lets it slide. As agreed, she agrees to go out with him. As per Nicole said, Harajuku is her favourite place so he takes her there and Ryuuto blabs about bubble tea seeing he too learnt is her favourite stuffs. Yeah, too technical on all those terms. It shows he did his research, eh? But don’t make Runa space out like the universe again! They try various bubble teas and even share an indirect kiss. I bet this one tastes the sweetest! Soon, he realizes he doesn’t have any money left to get her a present. However she decides to take this plan of their outing. It is the most memorable thing they have and she’ll always treasure it. Best birthday ever. At school, Ryuuto hears nasty rumours about Runa like she dumps her guy after he does all her bidding and that she never pays for her own food. These are all lies because Ryuuto knows her better. Who’s spreading them? When Nicole approaches Ryuuto, oh damn his friends bolt! Are they criminals or what?! Anyway, Ryuuto thanks her for the advice. Then later in class, Maria seems to get closer to him. She hints back then, she didn’t know much about love and dating. Now she views him as special! Get the hint! Ryuuto stays faithful and claims he already has a girlfriend. Sorry for the heartbreak, darling. But he won’t say who. Later he sees her follow a guy into a room. Apparently that guy wants her to go out with him but she declines since she already has a boyfriend. He wants to know who that is but she won’t tell. Not because she wants to keep it a secret but hints her boyfriend is shy and she is respecting his feelings. That guy thinks she is dating a losing and is embarrassed to tell others. She rejects that notion because if the whole world knows who he is, she won’t be embarrassed the slightest. Back in class, Maria tells Ryuuto about those bad rumours of Runa’s ex. This has Ryuuto blowing his top as he dispels every lie about her. How does he know? Because he is her boyfriend! Yeah, everybody heard that!

Episode 4
Runa confirms that herself and in a way, dispels all the rumours. WTF, Maria runs away? Ryuuto goes after her and when he catches her, he realizes she is the one who spread the rumours. But why? Surprise plot time: Maria is Runa’s twin sister! Wait. WHAT?! Although they are fraternal twins, when their parents got divorced, Maria took on her mother’s maiden name since she went with her. Basically, Maria is jealous of Runa since she is an extrovert and cheerful girl unlike Maria who is just an introvert and gloomy. Because Runa is more loved by everyone, thus Maria’s train of thought that she will never be happy unless she becomes like her. Well, looks like that isn’t going so well seeing Runa is still well loved in school. Ryuuto understands Maria’s feelings because he too was like her. Until he met Runa, his life changed for the better. He hopes Maria will meet someone she truly loves and aspire to be a person that person will love. Later Ryuuto talks to Runa about exposing their relationship. He couldn’t stand others talk bad about her and needed to do something. As for Maria’s case, it’s not like she wanted to keep a secret but the timing wasn’t there. She assures she is a good girl. As Ryuuto is ready to receive all sorts of backlash, surprisingly everyone in school just went about in their normal way. They hang out more as Ryuuto continues to rant about his favourite game streamer. Oh no, she’s going off into the universe again. Ryuuto then confides in his pals since he wants to kiss her. WTF. You want to make them die of jealousy? Well, he’ll settle for holding hands instead. So at this park date, he tries to hold her hand during boating but fails many times. In the end, she thinks he wants to break up because of his serious expression. Yeah, this was always the sign when her exes wanted to break up. Of course he says it isn’t so. They go for another boat ride and this time she surprises him with a kiss. Then they head home holding hands. Waiting for the sex part… Meanwhile at Maria, she is somewhat relieved that Ryuuto said he doesn’t hate her. His words still resonate in her mind. How to become the girl he loves? Well, she now plots in stealing Runa from him! Oh dear. The b*tch is back!

Episode 5
1 month dating anniversary, what’s the reward going to be? The beach! Oh yeah! We all know what to look forward to seeing! Meanwhile Maria tries to get Ryuuto to help her study but he keeps rejecting her since his schedules are busy. He even won’t give his contacts. So when will he be free? No reply… Beach date is here. Oh yeah! Sexy Runa so sexy! At the end of the day, they need a place to stay and since this inn is quite pricey, they have to share a room. Runa doesn’t mind… Then as they sleep, she is the one who asks if he wants to have sex! The chance is here again! Do not fail! She doesn’t mind doing it since she has started to like him more when they first started. After all, she is going to love him even more and have more feelings, she is willing to go all the way with sex too. It’ll be good for her body and heart! His answer: Tonight we just sleep and he’ll wait until she is ready for sex. Wait. WHAAAAT???!!! WHY?! He is doing abstinence because he loves her. Holy f*cking sh*t! Is he some saint now?! Well, you blew another chance. But at least hey, he gives in to her request to hug. When they return, Nicole summons Ryuuto. Here, have some free food. Uhm, something bad going down? While she is happy that Runa is happy with him, she warns him about the 2 month jinx. You see, all Runa’s exes dump her after 2 months either by cheating on her or went cold. Yeah, really those exes are scumbags whatever their excuses may be. She hopes Ryuuto won’t end up the same way. His assurance makes Nicole feels assured. Soon, Ryuuto gets a call from Maria. Oh, it is actually Runa. She is visiting her mom’s place and her phone battery died so she is borrowing Maria’s. It seems there is something urgent and wants him to meet at school right now. He goes to meet her at the gym storeroom. Runa wants to have sex. Wait. WHAAAAT???!! Did her feelings change so suddenly?!

Episode 6
As she hugs him, he can instantly tell this isn’t Runa but Maria in disguise. Yeah, I figured it out too. Can’t miss that eye mole! And that voice! And perhaps those boobs!!! Maria claims she wants to do it with him and go as far as to pretend to be Runa just to be his. She promises not to tell anyone. Not even Runa. Heck, she doesn’t even have to be his girlfriend. Just choose her for once. This time. Thankfully, our virgin boy decides to stay faithful to Runa. Can’t betray her. Also, it won’t be fair to Maria. So apparently she is not doing this to get revenge on Runa but she truly loves him. When she called out to her spreading those lies, he was being honest and sincere. He was the first boy who confronted her like that. He is so kind not to stop for Runa’s sake but hers as well. Turning her down in a way protected her. Even if they did it, she still won’t be like Runa. She knew all this was wrong but yet tried her luck because she loves him so much. Now she knows what it was like in his shoes when she rejected him. It hurts like hell. She apologizes for everything and cries on his shoulder. Next day, the school is rife with rumours that Ryuuto cheated on Runa because there is a picture of him with Maria that night. Well, it wasn’t Maria who did it. So when Runa confronts him about this, she only realizes Maria was that girl who rejected him. Not sure why she gets so sad that she runs away. Yeah, Nicole had to slap him on her behalf. What the heck did he do?! He didn’t have time to explain himself!!! Ever since, both have not been in contact as Ryuuto drowns himself with cram school. His pals are probably being gay together at the beach when they spot Runa with a new guy. They send a pic to Ryuuto and instantly he ditches cram school to head down there! Well, turns out this guy is her uncle, Mao! DAAAAAAAMN!!!!! They talk things out as Ryuuto reveals Maria’s confession and owns up to what he has done to make her sad. Runa realizes it is her fault and should have known better he is not like other guys. She kinda understands why Maria fell for him. Long story short, they’re back together again and their relationship saved. She brings him to her grandma’s house to meet her. She hopes he can stay with her here until summer break ends. She took up a part time job at Mao’s beach house so they can also have fun at the beach. Going to be the best summer ever.

Episode 7
It is not a dream to live in the same roof with a beautiful girl and have her wake you up! Damn are we so jealous! Ryuuto helps around the beach house. Runa talks about her dreams to have her family reunited and live happily like before. But since that sounds almost impossible, her dream is to make her own family. So she wants to have lots of kids, huh? Oh Ryuuto, better start thinking about your future seriously too. Ryuuto and Runa continue to shop and cook together. This will be the best summer vacation ever. Meanwhile Maria’s mom thinks of going back to see grandma. But when Maria heard that Runa is there with her boyfriend, she immediately claims she has other plans and can’t go. When Runa learns about this, she is sad and thinks Maria is trying to avoid her. Despite their different personalities, she still likes her. She really wants to get along with her but at this point it proves difficult. Ryuuto thinks she needs more time but when it comes down to it, she will understand where Runa is coming from. Runa hopes Ryuuto can be friends with Maria with her. Runa believes Maria might reject her if she is too direct and thought she won’t be her sister but start out again as her friend. That night, the duo visit the festival and have their fun. But before the fireworks begin, why is Runa crying? She looks sad. Apparently this isn’t her first experience. She has done all that with her exes and laments this should all be her first time with him. She wants those previous memories erased. Well, can’t she be happy that it is her first time WITH Ryuuto? Great time for him to give her a ring he bought as a souvenir. He thinks it isn’t enough but it is more than enough for Runa. Ryuuto hopes they can have first new experiences together as they used to live in different worlds before they started dating. Gotta stay positive. To cap a perfect evening, the fireworks begin as they confess their love and share a kiss.

Episode 8
Ryuuto invites his friends to play airsoft with Runa and hers. Basically the guys having a nice time being in the company of the girls. Typical virgin reactions. Just a simple praise is enough to send these noobs into ecstasy. Heh. A little insight from Nicole giving an account on her first boyfriend (now separated). Quite the memorable guy who loves music: Buddhist sutras! OMFG! The friends part ways and since Ryuuto and Runa still have time, they continue their date. In the Ferris Wheel, great mood for them to kiss. How does this one taste like? Peach tea scent. With them dating for an unprecedented 3 months, it is time for another anniversary. What to get? But Luna says they should grow out of it seeing she is now truly in love with him and being with him is more than enough. Yeah, I figure you love each other so much, you don’t keep count of the score anymore. When Ryuuto is at cram school, the moment he sees Maria entering, holy sh*t, he ducks for cover! He even tries to crawl out!!! OMG, is this that bad?! Luckily this guy, Shugo Sekiya helps him out. Thanks to that, he wants to hear the whole story. Seeing Ryuuto’s goal is not to make Maria more anxious than she is now, Sekiya agrees to help him. Since he hangs around in this area often, he can warn him whenever Maria shows up. Must be great entertainment for a repeat student, eh? As the class decides on the committee for the cultural festival, it seems nobody is eager to volunteer. Until Maria. Shortly after, Luna also volunteers.

Episode 9
With Runa volunteering, her friend Akari Tanikata also volunteers who in turn suggests Ryuuto be part of the team. Does he have a choice to say no? Well, Runa is in, so what else reason does he need? For the final person, he ropes in Ijichi because he knows he has a crush on Akari. So as they start brainstorming together, Maria and Runa’s ideas are like day and night. Will Ryuuto be caught in between? In fact, he notices he seems to prefer Maria’s ideas more. Though, he pretends to stay neutral. Then the talk with Sekiya, I think it doesn’t help much except a brief history of how he changed his hairstyle and became like where he is today. Ryuuto tries to get some advice from his teacher (as the sports festival preparation is also overlapping) but it’s like she’s just telling him to make a decision. WTF. On his way back, he bumps into Maria at the train station. She lets him know her mom got divorced the second time and hence no reason for her stepdad to pay her tuition. You may think she chose this school that Runa is in to spite her but it’s not. Surprise, it’s for her to be happy. Sure, there are things they don’t agree on but with Maria facing a lot of hardship, she doesn’t want Runa to go through the same thing. She wants her to forgive her and to be by her side. Ryuuto is glad that her grudge on Runa has dissipated. He truly believes Maria wants to get along with her but just doesn’t know how. During the sports festival, we see the students in action. Notably, Runa during the scavenger hunt chooses Ryuuto because the paper says to take the person she loves. It’s no secret, right? Maria is looking forward to the cheerleading segment as she is part of it. In fact, she invited her mom who took the time to take leave to come see her. But when Maria sees mom talking to Runa, WTF she runs away? With Maria not turning up, Runa and Ryuuto know something is wrong and go look for her. Ryuuto finds her at the rooftop. So what’s her problem? Mom doesn’t know their complicated relation? Is that it? Apparently this: Maria still loves Ryuuto and she doesn’t want him to make her fall for him even more. She understands his feelings but also doesn’t want to get rejected again. What are the chances Runa heard all that? For the final decision on the cultural festival’s poster, why is it the sisters and teachers are making Ryuuto the tie breaker? So as he remains indecisive, Runa tells him off to stop lying. She doesn’t like it when he lies. Well in that case, he goes for Maria’s design. There. Happy? Uhm, why everybody looking gloomy?

Episode 10
Well, we see this coming. A gloomy Runa thinks Ryuuto and Maria are better off with each other, dating each other. Runa doesn’t blame him since it was her who wanted to be kind with Maria. Stopping short of breaking up, Runa says they shouldn’t contact each other for a while and runs away. Ryuuto doesn’t go after her because he doesn’t know what to say. In school, Runa completely ignores Ryuuto. Although Nicole knows about it, surprisingly she doesn’t snap at him. She’s putting on this sad face and laments the bitter reality of love and dating. It’s not a game. What a disappointment. Soon, Akari comes to Ryuuto for help. She saw Runa hanging out with a sugar daddy! What?! He bought a freaking expensive branded bag for her? Sorry, it’s not Mao. Ryuuto wonders if it’s that because would Runa be one who would have a sugar daddy? That’s why as a friend, Akari needs his help to find out. Okay. So he calls Sekiya for help. So during the school’s cultural festival, when they stumble into Akari, she points out he is the sugar daddy she saw! Before Ryuuto could point his finger he is one of Runa’s ex, Sekiya makes it clear he is actually the ex of Runa’s friend, Nicole. That day, Runa came to him to talk, nothing else. Sekiya explains his dating history with Nicole. That time she was a straight and nice girl. But he dumped her so he could fool around with others. It couldn’t come at a worse time since her parents were divorcing and he did nothing to help her. He knows he has hurt her and that’s why he has no right to see her. Ryuuto believes there is still a chance to forgive those mistakes and move on. They get news that Runa and Nicole are being hounded by guys who want to hit on them. Yeah, why must it be such jerks? Ryuuto and Sekiya waltz in like a boss to take their girlfriends away. Well, at least this resolves Sekiya and Nicole’s relationship because now they’re back together again. Seeing such great love story, this gives Ijichi to confess to Akari. However no fairytale ending for this guy. The moment he does so, Akari lectures him about taking this lightly because they don’t know each other well. Sure, it hurts to get rejected but it also hurts for the rejecter too. So too bad. Confession is not a game and forcing your love on someone else. Ouch. So as the guys bum out about this, this makes Ryuuto realize all is not lost with Runa yet. So he goes to find her and he explains what happened. That bag was given by grandma. She thanks him for this misunderstanding, Nicole is back with Sekiya again. In fact, she believes life is too short to avoid the one you love. So we’re going to do all the things we like together? Yeah, we’re going to live a pretty long life…

Episode 11
Nicole and Sekiya are back together like a happy couple. Can we say the same for Ryuuto and Runa? Let’s hold our reservations first… Next day in school, Nicole relays the bad news: Sekiya dumped her?! WTF???!!! In the next cram school, Ryuuto talks to Sekiya about this. Well, it seems he fears that by spending too much time together, he might fail to make the grade again. So he wants to concentrate on his studies? Studies > girlfriend. Besides, he knows the way Nicole is acting, she wants to eventually have sex! SO YOU’RE PASSING THAT UP TOO?! Sekiya thinks Nicole will be okay since she has close friends but Ryuuto begs to differ because he is worried of saying the wrong things to hurt Runa. Even at this rate if he doesn’t have any other female friends, he is fine with it since he was always an introvert. Meanwhile Runa and Nicole meet up and shed tears for each other. But it seems Runa too is feeling the pressure. Like as though Ryuuto is being distant recently. Later as Ryuuto and Maria coincidentally meet, he hopes not to meet like this again. She agrees since although she loves him, Runa loves him more and she doesn’t want to ruin that. So as consolation, he says she was at least the first girl he fell in love with. That supposed to make her better? I guess so. Shortly, Ryuuto calls Runa but then hears Maria’s scream. A molester runs away and the only thing Maria losses is her earring she kept in a bag. Next time Runa and Ryuuto meet, he wants to explain why he was with Maria but she doesn’t want to hear it. Because she gets straight to the point and wants to break up! HUH?! WHY?! I don’t understand this part but it’s going to be sappy drama as Runa explains all the great things they’ve done, blah, blah, blah. I don’t understand her logic if she enjoyed them so much. So this is what you call inexperienced? Anyway, Ryuuto starts crying! He can’t accept this! There were things he did wrong in the past but he still loves her and all. He wants her to tell him everything even if it’s awful or painful. And just like that, they hug and agree to continue dating each other. Ugh. Really sappy drama. So as they reconcile, Runa tells him about this earring the sisters had. They thought they could wear it together once they grew up but she believes Maria threw it away. Ryuuto notices the similarity and goes find it. WHAT THE HELL THIS BS, they actually find it where Maria lost it?! So it proves Maria still cares, right? In class when Maria is being commended for some outstanding prize, this is when Runa reveals the truth to everyone she is her twin sister. This is a chance to return the earring. Both sisters reconcile and the friendship plan is a success.

Episode 12
Runa now shamelessly displaying her love in public for Ryuuto. She hints there is something she wants to do on Christmas night. Oh yeah! Sorry to disappoint you horny Ryuuto (and you perverts out there), it is actually wanting to get her parents back together again. She and Maria have been planning this, hoping their family would get back together again like old times. So why involve Ryuuto? She wants to introduce him to her dad. Meanwhile in school, Ijichi has slimmed down! OMFG! He’s now a handsome hunk! He looks like a favourite K-pop star that Akari likes! So wanna confess to him? Obviously she can’t because turned him down and doing so would make her look lame! But she definitely likes him now! Meanwhile Nishina tries to confess to Nicole but she shoots him down that she already has a boyfriend. You mean she is still waiting on her ex? Ryuuto is now nervous thinking he will meet Runa’s dad. I don’t think practising with a Santa statue could help! So when Christmas night is here, mom is surprised but when dad comes in, he has a bigger surprise. Who this new woman? Oh, he is getting remarried?! He thought if Runa wanted to introduce Ryuuto, he too have to get serious. This causes Runa a lot of grief as she thought the family would come back together again. Ryuuto brings her home. She is so sad she doesn’t want him to leave her tonight. She is willing to do sex. Please don’t abandon her! Ryuuto gives in and hugs her. Oh yeah. Damn she’s hot! I mean, literally hot! As in burning up! Oh my, Runa’s sick! Ryuuto rushes her to bed and takes care of her. Nishina still won’t give up on Nicole but he sees her barging into Sekiya’s cram school (he’s sleeping anyway) to tell him that she is willing to wait. Long story short, they’re back again. Nishina gives up and joins Ijichi watching their favourite online game streamer. The best way for introverts to nurse a broken heart. Next morning, Runa feels a lot better. Ryuuto tries to cheer her up by dressing as Santa and giving her an earring. She laughs since her dad once did this. But she no longer needs him as she has Ryuuto. Later Runa talks to Nicole about her undying love for Ryuuto. Strangely, he didn’t take advantage of her when he was sick. Nicole points out it seems she wanted to have sex and if she is fantasizing a lot about Ryuuto lately, it really means she is in love. Lust, is it not?! This gives Runa hope to look forward that there is still that first time she can share with Ryuuto. On another date with Ryuuto, she dresses up as a maid at a cosplay booth to take pictures together. She is doing so because wants to turn him on and do it with him. Aren’t you the lucky one, Ryuuto? It’s all in your hands now… Or pants rather?!

My Usual Story: The Experienced Me Gets Trolled By The Inexperienced Me
Sorry folks, looks like we aren’t going to be there when Runa and Ryuuto share that special first time. Don’t you just feel envious and mad that you have waited for the entire season for it and they went nowhere near it?! GGRRRRR!!!! We get it already. You love each other so much. Especially a girl this hot and beautiful and she’s already having dirty thoughts! So let’s do it! JUST DO IT! Oh look at the time. We’re out of episode and at the season’s end. Thanks a lot for the cock teaser. Now we otaku virgins can go to bed crying feeling empty. For the record, thankfully I did not. Phew?

Well to be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from the story. After all, it is that kind of romcom genre. Everything was pretty average and passable. The usual story of our main couple getting to know each other, the more they spend time with each other, the more they fall in love for real. Don’t forget to throw in love triangle from some added drama. All pretty basic at this point. But after reaching halfway, I felt that the story had started to wander and lost its direction. Meaning, it felt like it didn’t know where to go after Maria’s advances were rejected by Ryuuto. I don’t know what they’re trying to play up here but I suppose it is more of Ryuuto-Runa drama because the second half felt draggy and like as though it was limping towards the end of the season. It was unnecessary as it was confusing. Runa and Ryuuto had it good between them. Like as though nothing would really tear them apart. Not even Maria. And then suddenly what do you know? Runa wants to break up?! What the hell? Is this the kind of season finale drama we need? Otherwise it would have been a very boring end to the season as we see our happy couple being so happily in love with each other without a care in the world that it just makes us all virgin otaku viewers jealous. Yeah. Must be that.

Having Maria trying to do NTR on Ryuuto was perhaps the spiciest and the most ‘interesting’ part of the story and everything else just pales in comparison. Unfortunately for the sake of a good happy ending, that didn’t come to be and so we’re left with utterly a boring and typical romcom anime series. Imagine if Maria was a little bit more pushy and won’t give up in trying to take Ryuuto, perhaps the series would have been a little bit more interesting. After all, both sisters are like night and day. Oh heck, such polar opposites are even hinted in their names! Then she just gave up the fight because knowing loyal Ryuuto won’t budge and that’s the end of everything. Then they try to also divert our attention with Sekiya-Nicole romance. Well, it all happened in a flash. Literally. One minute you find out they were once dating each other, the next they got back together and then soon after, no fairytale ending and then they break up! And then they’re back again. Wait. What the hell?! It makes me wonder if the author has experience in this area. Whatever. They love playing this back and forth waiting game, huh?

And so the characters themselves are pretty average. Boring, if I should say myself. Ryuuto perhaps being one of the many and countless anime protagonists who are your plain guy with nothing special. But strikes lottery and the grand prize by dating the most if not one of the most beautiful and popular girls in school. Now where have I seen such a plot before? Hajimete No Gal comes to mind. Obviously first time virgins like him would very much like it and so he does his best to keep his girlfriend happy. Yes, it’s typical. Expected. Boring. And then there is Runa oh wow, who would have thought she’d be this naïve in the dating game. How many umpteenth boyfriends she already had? And then they baited us to think she’s some kind of loose girl because she doesn’t flinch when wanting to have sex with Ryuuto. OMG. Really?! For real?! Thankfully the power of doutei and refrain trumps instant sex gratification and so we’re left disappointed in our pants.

So sorry folks, this isn’t hentai and therefore definitely no sex scenes here. Even if we always fall for the trap and false hope into seeing something despite knowing better! SOMETHING! Yeah, I guess even veterans like me still continue to fall for such obvious baiting. We’re so inexperienced when it comes to this. Really. So is sex the only thing that people like us understand?! I don’t know, but don’t go ranting passionately all the technical stuffs of certain hobbies. Because we’ll be staring into space blankly like everyone else here. You people know what they’re talking about? But yeah, we continue to fall for the trap and have been trolled the umpteenth time Runa hints about sex but the damn virgin just pushes her away and we get so disappointed in the end! Always the right time, huh? Well, keep waiting!

Ironically if I have to say, Runa having gone through so many breakups, she should have been a lot more experienced but the way I see it, she still acts as though she is inexperienced. Yeah, this coming from someone who is even more inexperienced! Heh. Anyway, my guess is that she is so because Ryuuto is a hell lot different than her previous exes. As far to my understanding, it is a very strange logic that they dumped her for being too easy. Even more mind boggling, they didn’t even have sex with her?! If they dumped her after sex then it is understandable because jerks will be jerks. This makes those exes even looking more like losers! So with Runa ending up with Ryuuto, it is perhaps a blessing in disguise since obviously he is different from the rest and cares a lot for her. Thus her ‘inexperience’ is because he is not like other jerks and this is her first time dating a genuine guy who truly loves her.

And like I’ve pointed out, that final stretch drama of wanting to break up, that was unnecessary and my guts tell me that she was just jealous. She was just acting like a child throwing tantrum and jumping the gun too soon. She thought Ryuuto would love Maria more but that’s just her childish talk. So yeah, perhaps Runa is inexperienced in the jealousy department. Had Ryuuto actually gone with it, man, I can foresee the role reversal. Runa may be regretting her actions and trying to steal back Ryuuto. Then we might see the sisters quarrel big time. Another scenario is that Maria may not be impressed and would accuse Ryuuto of having no honour. She dumps him. Ryuuto back to being alone again. He lost both girls this time. Hmm… Hey, on second thought, I think this alternate plot looks more interesting! I WANT TO SEE THIS ONE, OMFG!!!

Other characters come in as disappointing and boring. Like Maria, it was interesting to know that she was the first girl Ryuuto fell for and got rejected. Like having a buyer’s remorse, she wanted so bad to have him back just to get back at her sister. If the rest of the season was about evil Maria trying to steal Ryuuto, perhaps the series would’ve been slightly interesting but it would have gotten annoying too if I know my own guts as well. Maria was desperate to be better than Runa in some ways that her desperation to get Ryuuto back by her side wasn’t out of love. It was obvious. Even pretending to be Runa and baiting us with sex, oh yeah that’s the buzzword, now we know why guys can’t understand women, RIGHT?! Then it all turns out when she realizes she loves her sister more and doesn’t want to bring harm, she made her final peace with Ryuuto before finally becoming a docile and boring character. Oh well, at least the sisters got back together on good terms again. Yeah, it would be unsightly if the beautiful sisters continue to fight over a plain guy!

At first Nicole comes off to me as strange. Like as though she has a problem with Ryuuto. Oh you know, she always has this I-am-not-impressed looks and gives Ryuuto the stare that might just scare the hell out of him. Maybe in a way she is socially awkward because we know Nicole cares about Runa a lot. Not wanting her to go through another typical breakup, this is why she is somewhat looking sceptical at Ryuuto. Because she too as we have seen, has undergone her own breakup that she has not gotten over. So there might lie our answer to why she looks grumpy at times. Then it felt like convenience and distraction her ex is Sekiya and that whole stint towards the end was just weird. Imagine getting dumped by the same guy again. TWICE. Oh Nicole, aren’t you a loser? OOPS! DON’T BE MAD AT ME! Anyway, sometimes you want to call Sekiya for being an idiot for doing so but I have to look at his point of view. Yeah, that needing to pass to the next grade may seem BS. So my guess is that the real reason is that since he has dated her and knows he cannot make her happy (like sex?!), it is better they part ways. Better sad now than regret later. Seems reasonable. Sort of. But happy ending cliché says he can do it and so now he has to shoulder both responsibility of passing his exams and having a girlfriend. Yeah, wait till you reach parenthood, a whole new hell awaits! HAHAHA!!! Oops, sorry. Got to remember Sekiya is into Buddhist sutras so yeah, that’s where his holiness stems from. Still BS to me…

Then there are Ryuuto’s friends who are well, just there to elevate Ryuuto’s status so that he can’t really be classified as the same introvert losers as they are. Oh just kidding but it felt those characters were something along those lines. It was really strange they try to pair up Akari with Ijichi. Like as though they were going to give us similar otaku nerds some kind of hope that we too have a chance. Oh yeah, Runa and her friends are really open minded, the way they hang out with each other and all. Vibes seem good. And then Ijichi mans up and does his confession. Well, what do you know? Not only a rejection but a scathing lecture about love! Holy sh*t! Doesn’t that make you want to crawl back into your manhole and safe zone! Not to label Akari as a b*tch, but her actions seem quite reasonable. Unlike Runa and Nichole who have it bad in the dating game, Akari doesn’t want to make the same mistake and so she’s cautious. It’s not that she is against hanging out against nerds. But if you want to be serious, you have to show some commitment and not just empty words. So yeah, Akari is quite sensible otherwise her character would’ve been close to being obscure and forgettable. And now Ijichi has physically man up to Akari’s taste and now the tables are turned. It felt all her credibility flew out of the window the way she squealed at him like that. So, what was it again about looks and love? You were saying, AKARI???!!! Which means, if Ijichi goes back to being chubby, that love is gone? How shallow. It’s like she loves him for his K-pop looks only. At least, it still leaves a possibility for this pairing. Finally so as not to make Nishina look like a forgettable loser with no one to pair with, at least he tried. Now he knows and can wear that ‘badge/scar of honour’ proudly.

Art and animation are pretty okay. It is mostly clean and the visuals are mostly bright and colourful. Yes, thank Runa and her gal pals for being this flashy and colourful. They make everything look bright compared to Ryuuto and his dull looking pals. Really. I could feel all their colourfulness filling and taking away all the monotonous ambience the guys have. No wonder the girls here look pretty cute. In 2D sense, that is. It’s a reason why I got baited in watching this series. Heh. You should know by now I’m a sucker for a pretty face. Heh. This anime was done by Engi who did Uzaki-chan Wa Asobitai, Tantei Wa Mou Shindeiru, Hataage! Kemono Michi and Otome Game Sekai Wa Mob Ni Kibishii Sekai Desu. Now you know why their trademark visuals of bishoujo looked familiar, eh?

For the voice acting, Natsuki Hanae once again as a high school dating character as Ryuuto (I don’t know why he reminds me of the titular character in Masamune-kun No Revenge. Is it because I just recently saw that anime?). Aoi Koga as Maria, sounds a little bit like Kaguya-sama while Daisuke Sakaguchi as Nishina, sorry no vocal comebacks like Gintama’s Shinpachi. I almost missed up but there it is, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Mao. As long not sounding like crazy Accelerator, probably would miss his voice. The other casts are Saori Oonishi as Runa (Kaori in Arifureta), Ayaka Fukuhara as Nicole (Sayaka in Kakegurui), Tomori Kusunoki as Akari (Makima in Chainsaw Man), Tomoaki Maeno as Sekiya (Junichi in Amagami SS) and Fukushi Ochiai as Ijichi (Kimura in Karakai Jouzu No Takagi-san). The opening theme, Love You Tender by Maaya Uchida is your generic and lively rock song. Nothing special to me. The same can be said for the ending theme, Aikotoba by Alia. Same generic and lively rock vibes. Personally if you ask me, both songs sound to have more noise than music. Yeah, not impressed with the ‘screeching’ electric guitar play.

Overall, this series is just average and unfortunately became boring as it reaches its end. Nothing much really happens that would even so much so constitute a game changer for the series itself. Not to mention some dumb unbelievable moments too (for plot convenience, I guess) but I can live with that. Sort of. Think this will be different than the rest of the romcoms out there? Think not. It’s the same. For the umpteenth time, those who have watched enough animes continue to be fooled by the possibility of sex with a pretty girl and even if we knew it wasn’t going to happen, we always had that wish to see how far it would go only to be disappointed in the end. Yeah, we’re still inexperienced no matter what. Too bad watching so much of such shows in this genre didn’t increase my experience level at all. Maybe I just need to watch more… Just in case… So are we ready to go rent a girlfriend if we’re so desperate to have one? Oops, wrong anime!
