9 September, 2023

How is married life going for you married folks out there? I don’t know about me because I’m still single. Heh. Anyway, if you’re having doubts or marriage is slightly on the rocks, let an anime series remind you the beauty and romance of being married. Oh heck, I made that up. But I guess Tonikaku Kawaii S2 is much needed and even more so in this day and age where divorce rates are skyrocketing. Need to motivate you young ones to keep the flames of love alive. No, not porn, mind you! This wholesome sequel is going to continue to show you that even the most simplistic of ways, a couple can still find some cute romance in their everyday life. Like the saying goes, a successful married life requires falling in love many times with the same person.

Episode 1
Tsukasa gives Nasa a morning kiss. And they’re still both not used to it. Because Nasa has been continuously working, Tsukasa sounds that she wants to go out to the movies. So he finishes up and takes her there. I believe he enjoys seeing all of Tsukasa’s different expressions than the movie itself. Back home, Kaname talks to Nasa about the wedding ceremony. She’s bringing it up because she knows Nasa wants to see Tsukasa in a wedding dress. So as he confides with his wife, she is against that idea. Imagine the number of people they have to invite and she is very embarrassed to wear that dress. Too bad Nasa isn’t listening and still wants to see her in it. Then she tests Mr Smarty Pants how much he knows about arranging a wedding ceremony and has him act out on what to do. Tough, no? Of course Kaname has to barge in and give them her 2 cents worth of opinion regarding the minimum estimated costs to hold a wedding. Yeah, such magical numbers! No wonder Nasa is in shock. What a waste of money? Meanwhile Chitose is also talking to her maids about the wedding. Of course Chitose wants to attend but not to ruin it. It’s her sister’s wedding after all. As Nasa continues to ponder the several costs, now it is Aya’s turn to enlighten him on those types of costs. This leads them to talk about how most weddings take about a year to plan. That long?! Yeah, you invite your guests and you don’t expect them to show up tomorrow, right? Aya eventually suggests to buy this wedding magazine to get more insights. Nasa and Tsukasa buy this wedding mag which is as thick as a phone book at the convenient store. They get some insights as they weigh the pros and cons of planning a wedding. Yeah, there are couples who got into fights because of it! So in order to save that nightmare, Tsukasa suggests that they doing things together right now is the best. Status quo. After all, it’s too soon for them to hold a wedding and they should take their time to think it over. Yup, sounds like a great plan. But Nasa still wants to see her in a wedding dress so she agrees to wear one in private just for him. Aww, see how cute they snuggle close to each other and kiss as they sleep!

Episode 2
Naoko Yanagi looks like an overworked teacher and doesn’t have personal time. Until she stumbles into Nasa in the streets and realizes he is married! Must be a taboo word for single middle aged woman like her. WTF she wants to make a house call even though he already graduated?! Think he went down the wrong path and married a delinquent?! Well, must be nice to know Tsukasa is such a nice wife. She thinks she might harbour some dark secret but as she stays, she finds nothing wrong. Then she asks Nasa about his future and his simple reply is to spend more time with Tsukasa. And hence living in the present has got Yanagi thinking. That’s right. She calls a teacher whom she has rejected his invitation previously, to hang out with him. One day, a yakuza dude Ginga Onimaru comes into the bathhouse looking for Nasa. Tsukasa will not allow trouble to look for her husband and after a short showdown, here comes Nasa. Oh, Ginga is his cousin. He is shocked Nasa is married and learns Tsukasa is his wife. After explaining how Nasa always helped him out (in school, that is), however Ginga feels unconvinced. He wants them to kiss now. After all, Tsukasa is his sister-in-law and he will be putting his life down for her too. Tsukasa is embarrassed but Nasa doesn’t mind because he loves her. But if she’s too shy to go through with it, he’ll respect that decision. Tsukasa is about to go ahead with it but Ginga stops them. Can’t let them proceed with something scandalous. Tsukasa and Kaname beat him up for this. It was his idea! Anyway, Ginga is here because he needs Nasa’s help. His gang found a stray cat and raised it. When they decided to release it back, they realized it would be breaking some laws. Lots of troubles come after that so Ginga remembered Nasa took care of a cat before. Nasa straightaway tells him to take it to the vet for a check-up. Tsukasa names it Toast because of its colour and pattern. Nasa then lectures Ginga on what to do as basics to take care of pets. Although the wedded pair adopts Toast, it seems the feline only warns up to Tsukasa. But in the middle of the night it wakes up Nasa just to make him feed it and after that, goes back to sleep with Tsukasa. Cats! Next day, Tsukasa believes this means Toast trusts him. She hints of wanting attention of him and also asks who is cuter, she or the cat. Obviously, no? Mood good enough for them to kiss but dang, Kaname watching! Later after bath, the mood is good again so the duo smooch. Too bad damn Toast trying to get their attention. Don’t f*cking ruin this kiss!

Episode 3
Ginga gives Nasa and Tsukasa tickets to the amusement park. The latter is of course excited to go. It’ll be like a date, right? Apparently Chitose and her maids are there too. You bet she isn’t happy to see them but first, they have to enjoy their rides! Nasa and Tsukasa soon stumble into Yanagi. She claims her fellow colleague, Taniguchi invited her out. She is clueless about this but Tsukasa quickly understands the situation and takes her husband away. Since Nasa is slow on the uptake, Tsukasa has to spell it out that Taniguchi is in love with Yanagi and trying to score with her. Then the duo watch them from afar and even give their commentary on whether Taniguchi can succeed. So far he’s a wimp as he chickens out holding her hand. But all is not lost as in the dark love boat tunnel, she holds his hand as she is scared. Later when Yanagi asks about this invitation, he is going to tell the truth but the couple ahead ‘spoiled’ it. You see, the girl asked the same and the guy said it’s because he loves her! Wanna date? Of course! Wow. It’s like they just laid out the script for Taniguchi. Good or bad, Yanagi doesn’t get it so it’s still safe. Then they witness a couple getting married nearby. Despite the rainy weather, they’re still smiling because it’s a start of their new life. This gives Taniguchi some motivation not to give up. Chitose must have had fun with her rides so now she goes to tail and stalk on our happy married couple. Too bad she got distracted by some mascot thingy. At the end of the day, Nasa and Tsukasa see Yanagi and Taniguchi ahead. They wonder about their progress. Actually, nothing. He is pressured to confess when Yanagi says he had a lot of fun. With the nicely timed fireworks, he too claims he had a nice time. Suddenly a shocking statement from Yanagi asking if he wants to get married! She gets embarrassed realizing what she said. That is when he mans up and confesses he loves her. I guess that’s enough magic spectacle for Nasa and Tsukasa as they have theirs by holding hands. Chitose won’t be a wet blanket either and leaves the duo alone.

Episode 4
Aya is in trouble! Exams are coming up and she hasn’t studied a bit! According to manga, if a smart person teaches her, she’ll pass! Oh well… Seeing no harm, Nasa helps her. Well, he didn’t go through high school so can he still help?! He may be smart but it’s not like knows the syllabus, right?! Since he has a knack of predicting questions, he’ll set a series of questions for her to memorize. She asks how he could memorize long codes so he notes that they are all made up of formulas created by past academicians. Each formula is based on the previous one and it is proof of mankind’s fragments of wisdom throughout history. Well, not sure if Aya got that one but she’ll do her best. With Nasa working too hard, Tsukasa decides to give him a massage. Just shut up and relax while she lets her soft fingers rub all over his body. Yeah, such an exciting new experience. Then it’s her turn although he only does her shoulders (get to see her nape!) but it’s still a new great experience. Later, Kaname asking Nasa if he has kissed Tsukasa many times! Apparently some social media video thingy led her to this kissing topic. Yes, she wants to know intimate details if they kissed in various ways! Nasa of course denies so she adds about the various parts one kisses which has different meaning. Oh really? Yeah, she has a list for him so you want it or not? He’ll take it! That night as Nasa accompanies Tsukasa out for errands, this kissing thingy weighs heavily on his mind. He ends up sniffing and touching her hair first. He might want to kiss next but she cautions people might be watching. He thinks it’s okay because it’s dark. Plus, they’re married so it’s no biggies. Then they see Yanagi and Taniguchi kissing! OMFG! Getting embarrassed now? Back home, the duo discuss about the meaning of kissing at various places. So they try it out. Must be a record in kissing each other at so many places in succession. But sorry folks, nothing that would turn this into porn! Next day, Kaname approaches Nasa and wonders if he did it with his wife in the park. Because she saw him sniffing her hair! No more PDA in public!

Episode 5
Kaname gives hotspring tickets that her mom gave her (Kaname pulling a fast one not recognizing mom?!) to Nasa so that he and Tsukasa can go enjoy. Haven’t had their honeymoon, right? The newlyweds of course take this chance as they are also very nervous they’ll be spending some time alone. Uhm, aren’t they doing that since they’re married? Oh right. Kaname, Chitose and co. Now they’re truly alone! After Nasa takes his bath and has planned how he wants to spend the rest of the day with his lovely wife, he bumps into a lost grandma and pitying her, he helps whatever she asks of him. Don’t worry. We still have time, right? Meanwhile Aya is sick of studying and wanted to go to the hotspring to relax. Don’t worry. Kaname offers the bathhouse. Too bad she is made to work instead! Life is not easy as you think! Don’t worry. She has also roped in Chitose to help. Well, she thinks she’ll be lonely with Tsukasa not around! What the heck?! Yeah, here’s some cheap fanservice of Aya and Chitose trying to strip each other down. The old lady continues to eat up more of Nasa’s time although she gives very good marriage advice. When Tsukasa stumbles into them, she is not impressed that Tokiko Tsukuyomi is pulling this prank on her husband. She is the one who signed as a witness on their marriage and is Chitose’s grandma. Nasa then formally introduces himself as Tokiko is impressed a guy like him could get an ice queen’s heart. She is also impressed he could tell that specimen in Chitose’s house was a moon rock. She hints about him being able to do what nobody can all these years. Something to do with the moon? Then she gives them more tickets to visit more hotspring spots and also trying to perhaps embarrass Tsukasa by telling Nasa what a lovely girl she is despite all that tough denial. Be sure to experience her love when you’re alone! Either way, Tokiko is glad they found each other.

Episode 6
Walking around town, because Nasa is suggesting the next kind of bath he wants to take, Tsukasa suggests the one in their room. Oh, you mean like getting in the bath together? NAKED?! You bet his mind is going crazy and his heart pounding like hell. I mean, they’re married, right?! So this should be no biggies, right?! If not for those damn cliché romcom manga he read about such situations… So after dinner back in their room, the moment of truth now arrives. Will they go into the bath together? Will they not? Nasa thinks of manning up so he makes that suggestion straight. So I guess they’ll be going in. So here they are now, sitting together naked in the bath. In the dark. Nice moonlight. Lots of awkwardness and embarrassment. I wonder if they’ll pass out from the heat or embarrassment. But I guess with all that embarrassment, it’s not so embarrassing to say they love each other even though it’s still embarrassing. For God’s sakes, you’re both married! They manage to ‘cool’ down splashing water at each other. But now the real moment of awkwardness is here: How to get out here? Better think fast or the heat will actually get to them… Yeah, they manage to get out although they’re close to being very dizzy. So at breakfast they’re still awkwardly embarrassed about it although they try to hide it. Yeah, still feeling last night’s heat on your skin! Tsukasa gets shy when he suggests going in the bath again. Too bad it’s one that Tokiko suggested. Should’ve been more specific from the start. Tsukasa thought they could leave without saying goodbye to Tokiko but looks like she saw this coming. So she asks about their wedding but Tsukasa is too embarrassed about it. She’ll settle for a group photo then. The lovebirds walk through town one last time hand in hand (still warm from embarrassment?) before taking a train back. Nasa feels they’ve gotten close and made so much memories. Tsukasa suggests going on another trip like this and not necessary a hot trip one. Sure. But will they bath again like that? Well, as long as they turn off the lights. Aw shucks, because Nasa wanted to see her cute blushing face. Don’t you want to see his too? Okawaii koto…

Episode 7
I guess it’s so hot that our newlyweds decide to go buy an air-cond. But to Tsukasa’s shock, Nasa doesn’t even need to compare the brands and all and picks the a unit. He claims he knows how it works! Then they go visit Ouka Nakiri to get the special tools to install the air-cond. Obviously Tsukasa is concerned since Nasa knows this young woman. Turns out she was his classmate and the same age. At first she sounds indifferent and doesn’t care when Nasa says he is already married. That shock reaction came too late, though. Nasa explains his undying love for Tsukasa ever since he met her. Not sure if that was the magic on Nakiri as she waives the rental fees. After installing the air-cond, Nasa sets the temperature at 26 degrees. Oh wow, too cold! Setting it at 28 and it seems a little hot. 27 seems right. As the timer goes off an hour later, Nasa is awakened by Tsukasa since it got a little too hot to sleep. So they set the timer a bit longer at 26.5 to enjoy their sleep since newer models are more efficient, right? Right. Here’s a goodnight kiss. Next day, there is this tanned brat, Kyuuma Kagami coming in to ask Kaname for help. Kaname is not in but only Tsukasa. Hence she pretends Tsukasa is Kaname and asks away. Not sure what dumb questions she asked but it irritates Tsukasa as she gets dragged into her pace. Heck, Kyuuma even wants Tsukasa to put on twintails like Kaname so she’ll listen to her better! Kaname returns and is shocked to see her classmate here. Why isn’t she at school? Oh, she thought it was already the holidays! Yes, Kyuuma is a dumb girl and she admits it! Apparently Nasa knows Kyuuma and introduces his wife to her. Shocking, right? More Kyuuma madness as she thinks of getting some branded Haagen ice cream before starting the discussion. So tiring… As Nasa returns the tools to Nakiri, she asks about the pros of married life. Well, one of them being able to smell his wife’s nice hair?! And also buying cookies based on the package instead of the flavour?! But the best thing he notes is that it expanded his world as he met many other people and discovered lots of other things he didn’t know before. It made him feel had had more potential than before. Nakiri is so impressed and thinks of getting a wife too! Oh my, I think she missed the point!

Episode 8
What’s this? Tsukasa suddenly asking Nasa if she loves him?! Shock and at a loss, later he confides with Kaname about this. Using a cat who wants to be spoilt, she scolds him about his indifferent response and so he must show his affection until she is satisfied! Apparently Tsukasa asked that question that come from an online test site. And so we see Nasa deliberating on how to answer his wife. Lots of panicking and twisted logic. Even if he tries to coolly say he loves her, it comes off as cringe. Yeah. Whatever. That’s when he decides to go study shoujo manga for some references. Tsukasa notices this and tries to mess with him to get him to spill the beans. He tries to keep it a secret until she kisses him. That did the trick? Basically he wants to convey how much he loves her. In that case, why not show the fruits of his research? Saying he loves her the most in the entire universe isn’t going to cut it. Be more specific! Yeah, looking at Tsukasa’s reaction, she is sure loving all that. Obviously Kaname notices Tsukasa’s good mood. Mind to tell? It’s a secret. Later as Nasa chills in the bath, Kaname comes in to ask if he wants to bath with his wife. Well, there’s the desire. Since business hours are over, she suggests he hops next door where Tsukasa is bathing now. Tsukasa won’t allow it. Well, at least turn off the lights. So there’s your permission. And so Nasa gets going to join his wife in the bath in the dark for the sake of world peace! Lots of shy moments until Tsukasa decides to get into the sauna. Care to join her? Of course. Not sure about their twisted logic about how romantic this is but whatever. Is this a subtle way to test if they can endure the heat of love?! OMG! IS IT?! Things are looking pretty steamy (pun intended) and yeah, she is allowing him to take off her dropping towel when Aya’s scream is heard. Apparently she tried to go into the men’s sauna after Kaname explain what is going on. Well, Ginga overslept in the sauna?! WTF?! Yeah, look at how Aya is snapping at him. So I guess that ruins our married couple’s romantic time. Maybe next time.

Episode 9
Tsukasa thinks the remote aren’t working. Nasa just change the batteries. Then when she has password problems on her phone, Nasa helps fix it too. This has Tsukasa wonder if he thinks she is dumb in such things of course lovely husband denies so. Furthermore, he thinks she is always looking cute in every situation. She isn’t impressed so he tries his best to cheer her up with gift suggestions but oh well, that kind of expression she puts… Soon, Yanagi visits them and announces that she will be getting married. Yeah, she is surprised how come they know it is Taniguchi! Anyway, she wants to ask Nasa if he was nervous before marriage. Not really. Yup, that’s his straightforward answer. But this is where the problem lies therein. You see, they visited a beef noodle shop and Taniguchi spammed his bowl with ginger until it is full as seen in the manga. He told her not to copy him and wanted her to remain normal. Naturally back home, she tried that and although found it horrible, the next day she is craving for that similar dish! The problem is that now she has turned into a person whom Taniguchi doesn’t want. She is sad he won’t love her like before. Well, Nasa says if he doesn’t accept her as she is, then it isn’t going to be worth it. Yanagi is somewhat enlightened and will go tell him to like her as she is! But now Nasa and Tsukasa are craving for a beef noodle with a pile of ginger! Nasa is in shock because he put on some weight! Could it be a happy marriage and his wife’s cooking? But if Tsukasa eats the same as him, how does she remain thin? So he hugs Tsukasa. At first she is shocked but after hugging him, she can tell he has put on weight! She doesn’t mind but looks like Nasa is going to do some exercise. Tsukasa accompanies him and yeah, she can beat him flat. No stamina already? How to last in bed? OH SH*T!!! JUST KIDDING! One day, Tokiko makes an unannounced visit so you bet Tsukasa isn’t thrilled. Trying to nag her to visit her sometimes? And what’s this about Tokiko trying to get them to go camping? Whatever it is, Nasa seems to be hooked on that idea and wants to try. And so, like it or not, you newlyweds are going to go camping with grandma next week. She leaves them with a gift. Tsukasa believes it is ohagi because a flashback shows she gave some to her to eat when she lost everything when everything burnt down.

Episode 10
Looks like Aya and Kaname want to come along for this camping trip too. Oh, Kyuuma too? She thinks camping is her thing? Whatever. And since it’s like that, Nasa invites Ginga too (sorry boy, it’s not bury bodies!) as well as Chitose and her maids. Yeah, the more the merrier. As the gang assembles, obviously they can get there by car but as suggested, it’ll be more meaningful if they hike to the camping spot. Yup, let’s experience the breath of the wild! Sorry, it’s not that Zelda game! Only Kaname will take a ride since she will be doing some business and will only arrive later. During the hike, Kyuuma goes off by herself but Tsukasa like a ninja helps to locate and bring her back to the rest. They finally reach the site as Nasa and Tsukasa enjoy their own private time at the stream. Nasa indicates he wants to kiss her. Tsukasa being embarrass. Only if Tokiko isn’t here to egg her to do it! Hey, they’re married and intimacy is the key to marriage! Nasa isn’t even hiding the fact he wants to smooch her! He talks about the advice Tokiko gave her as well as Chitose asking about them being married. In short, he finds Tsukasa a special person. They reunite with the rest and noting that everyone is accounted for, time to sneak off on their own and have their own intimate time. This means, Nasa getting a little aggressive as he hugs her from the back and starts nibbling her ear. Oh wow. We’re making some great progress. But that won’t last long as soon they get news that Kyuuma is missing. As they go find her, Nasa gets lost. And he thinks everyone else is now lost?! Eventually Kyuuma shows up. She was just in the toilet. And now that Nasa is missing, have to go find him before sundown. As Nasa dreams of meeting Tsukasa the first time, here comes his wife to bring him back. He takes this chance to ask her about what she meant that she would go out with him if he married her. She isn’t telling but talks about suspicions, doubts and distrusts. Because he answered her so soon, it proves he trusted her. She fell for him because he trusted her and because of that, she decided to trust him. Nasa was able to answer her quickly that night because she turned his way. For that, he will always be proud of his answer.

Episode 11
As the gang starts their BBQ, suddenly Kaname pops up with a great slideshow and narration of Nasa and Tsukasa’s life! From how they met until they get married! So that’s what she’s working on, eh? Note, pictures may not match narration… Anyway, this is all part of Tokiko’s plan to hold a wedding reception for them. They never had one, remember? And what better way since everyone they know is here. The couple is invited on stage as Nasa is made to give a speech. Thank goodness he decides to spare us on spamming how cute Tsukasa is. But yeah, he loves her and thanks everyone for their support. The gig continues as Tsukasa is put on a mock wedding dress and the couple proceed to cut their wedding cake. So beautiful. Then they go stargazing (time for Nasa to show off his astronomy chops) before they play fireworks. All the while, Nasa pondering why people get married. Sure, some historical theories and all so Tokiko pulls him over to apologize that it was her fault that it took 2 years for them to reunite. This is why she is grateful he waited this long. However Nasa knows what is going on and maintains he is happy to have Tsukasa. Tokiko realizes he is really the one who will make Tsukasa’s wish come true. As for why people get married, he should ask Tsukasa when they’re alone. He does so as she explains that people grow old and die over time. Even if their bodies are gone, their love remains eternally. After lots of flowery poetry, she explains getting married involves promises. You make a vow that is unbreakable for eternity. And so they kiss underneath the moonlit night as they promise to love each other forever. And now they return to their camp. Bedtime. Oh dear. Big bed. More room to fool around. Are you thinking what I’m thinking, NASA!!! His mind is overthinking about the ifs and possibilities. Will they do it or not?! How to invite her to bed?! So I guess in the end, they just lie close to each other. Yeah. Nice stars.

Episode 12
Nasa is up early so he chats with Tokiko while having breakfast over this great view. Before Tokiko could ask him something, Tsukasa interrupts, thinking grandma is doing another sneaky thing. Hence Tokiko wonders if Nasa is okay with this kind of woman. Rest assured, he won’t marry anyone else! There’s your (embarrassing) answer. Back home, the landlord calls Nasa and claims the renovation is almost done. This means they can move back soon. Yeah, this time a place to call their own and more importantly, all to themselves. So, talking about buying a bed? Soon, Kaname comes breathing down Nasa’s neck, thinking they are leaving because they have problems staying here! Want to fool around more privately?! Oh, so she promises not to peek on them at night?! Tsukasa says they’re not leaving forever. As she is fond of working here, she can still see her every day. Okay, not so bad. That night, Nasa hugs Tsukasa but what’s this? She lectures him his crappy hug. Woah! There’s a science for hugging?! I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW IT WAS THING???!!! So she shows him how it’s done and there, now the hug feels better! WOAH!!! Then as he tries to talk to her about being a messy sleeper, apparently she doesn’t like it and a little argument ensues. Tokiko remembers Tsukasa wanting her to promise to live for herself after 2 years and stop living for her sake. Tokiko has always wanted to make her wish come true but feels useless about it. Then she collapses. Our married couple gets a call from Chitose about this. They rush over to the hospital to see her fine. Yeah, Chitose and the maids panicked and went overboard. As Tokiko takes a breather outside, Nasa talks to her and wonder if she is really okay. Because he has noticed her walking differently since the camp. As for what she was trying to tell him at the camp, she hints she has spent her life trying to do it but has failed. Hence she gives him this moon rock and hopes he can make her happy. Nasa doesn’t understand what it means but knows she has entrusted him with something important and promises to do so. With nagging Tsukasa coming by and not amused that they’re talking secrets, Tokiko hints she should look closer at him if she wants to find out. She pushes her to Nasa and what a perfect hug. Such blissful moment.

Love You To The Moon And Back
Uhm, if that ending seems to be somewhat abrupt, note that there is a short sequel right after this second season ended. But I’ll do watch that one separately and another time. But as far as this season is concerned, yet our main couple continues to be happily married and in love with each other. Sorry folks, no worst case scenario of them even getting close to a divorce because of how much love they give to each other that it is so embarrassing that they want to call it quits! HAH! What was I thinking?! Yeah. Thank goodness it’s just me. Thank goodness I didn’t write the script for this sequel. Thank goodness I don’t decide the happiness of others. Thank goodness…

Well I have to be honest, but doesn’t this second season feel a lot boring! Holy sh*t! Am I saying that only because I myself is single, not married and worse, don’t even have a freaking girlfriend!!!!! Oh dear. With my boring life aside, truly I felt this season is so because of the fact that I was hoping to learn a bit more about Tsukasa’s origins and especially that moon people that she hinted vaguely about last season. Very unfortunately, none of that. My guess is that by doing so, it does not distract us from the unnecessary as the most important story here is to see Nasa and Tsukasa making further strides in their married life. In other words, continue to be even happier. So yeah, while it may sound tempting to learn more about her origins, in the end at least in Nasa’s eyes, where she comes from doesn’t really matter because all it matters is that he is married to the most beautiful wife in the world (galaxy?) and he is grateful for that.

Thus this second season’s plot is largely about that. Seeing how Nasa and Tsukasa navigate their newly married life and of course it is not without its ups and downs. More accurately, I would say imperfect because I’m seeing that they are having a lot more of a swell time than arguing or fighting. Heh. We’ve all come to accept the fact that is part and parcel of marriage life. I am not saying that their married life is void of that but such bickering remains minimal and a small issue. Which is of course good because it means they’re willing to listen to each other and that their love is so big enough to make such petty disagreements into nothing like it never existed in the first place. So while it is all good and fluffy stuff seeing Nasa and Tsukasa get along very well with each other, in a way it all also seems so unreal. Uh huh. In today’s reality and from where I see it at today’s point in time, such blissful marriage is close to being a fairytale. Yup, finding a unicorn is more probably than that! HAHAHA! Just kidding. But you get what I mean. But oh well, this anime is such so that they can sugar coat it all and give the young future generations some hope that married life can be heaven instead of hell. It all depends on you.

Of course the next step in Nasa and Tsukasa’s married life is… SEX!!! Oh my. Getting a little ahead of myself, eh? However that is only to be expected. I mean, they’re not going to lead a boring life and as adults, I’m sure this is not something to be embarrassed of. Although they are. Maybe just nervous. So like in any marriage, intimacy is to spice it all up. Hence with a few scenes having them being this close to each other, you’ll wonder if they’ll ever get down to it. After all, they’re already kissing a few times so the next step is sex, right? Unfortunately as my guts have already told me, this isn’t that kind of series. So no matter how many times they trolled us with such seemingly juicy and steamy scene, sorry folks, no sex scenes. Even if there was, it’s going to be behind the scenes and you perverts will have to use your imaginations!

Character wise, Nasa and Tsukasa have grown a lot since the last time although they remain largely the same. Confused? Oh well, as newlyweds, there are still uncertainties and concerns about the next step and course of action. Because of that, they have anxieties and worries if the other would accept it or not. But as we all know, they love each other so much and just need to talk it out to understand. Yeah. A key aspect of married life is communication so you budding people who want to marry, take note of it. In a way, this second season could be just one huge diary of Nasa spamming his unending love for Tsukasa. Heh. Yeah, his heart and love for Tsukasa is like the endless space. Sounds a bit cringe but you get the point. Their love will continue growing every day and technically you could say that the day they love each other the least was the day they first met, right?

Other recurring characters are fine but unfortunately they don’t do much. Perhaps like again as I surmised, it is not to take away the limelight of Nasa and Tsukasa. Hey, they are the stars of the show (pun not intended) and the rest should just play a supporting role. So whether it is Kaname still being the cheeky girl trying to shove the couple into doing risqué stuffs and Aya being the airhead, they’re fine in their respective roles. If there is one thing about Chitose this season, it seems that she isn’t as annoying as she was before. Remember she was the one who greatly opposed to them being married and can’t accept it. However she has toned down a lot here and I am guessing she doesn’t want to be a b*tch or dick and has come to terms with reality. It is good because it would be a pain to see this little girl trying to get in the way each time their romance is trying to blossom. Even if Chitose might still not fully accept this marriage, at least she has matured a bit and in the end it’s not about her but Tsukasa’s happiness. Can’t keep holding a grudge forever because it’s better to be happy for her too. Now can we see her smile more often?

Surprisingly, this season introduces a generous amount of new characters. Okay, just a handful. However like the recurring ones, they too don’t play any significant role and like I have said, it is most likely to not steal the focus away from Nasa and Tsukasa. For instance Yanagi, it’s probably to also show that not only Nasa and Tsukasa can grab a slice of happiness. Yanagi’s case in a way would spur our newlyweds to love each other more because of them, Yanagi is able to move forward and marry her fellow colleague. Then there’s Ginga and with his gangster-like attitude (although he has a big heart), you’d never think he is actually related to Nasa. He needs to work on his phrasing to make it not sound like Nasa is some cruel yakuza boss! My guess for his character is so that he could be paired up with Aya. Remember, she was in love with Nasa but found out too late he already married Tsukasa. So is Ginga the person to fill that void and make her move on? Only time will tell.

Feeling out of place are Nakiri and Kyuuma. I bet it’s to show that Nasa has his own circle of friends. From poker face mechanic genius to feisty tanned loli, this proves Nasa isn’t a nerd who locks himself away to study 24/7. Yeah. Lastly, Tokiko making her proper appearance here as she plays some sort of motherly role at least in the context of giving our newlyweds some sort of advice. While Nasa is mostly awed by her, the same can’t be said for Tsukasa. Is this some family thingy where one gets embarrassed by your own family members? Anyhow, Tsukasa isn’t impressed and is forced to go along just to respect her elder. Not to say she is a bad person but yeah, grandma can sometimes be a bit nosy and unwarranted at times. She is responsible for a number of hints about the moon thingy with her short snippets via monologue flashbacks but unfortunately, nothing really conclusive and just very vague teasers. Perhaps whatever promised she wanted to keep was not the most important thing so long as Tsukasa is happy and that itself is already a dream come true and a promise kept. Now that Nasa has been entrusted the task, it’s like a whole weight of burden been lifted off her shoulders. Yeah, what if the moon rock is some sort of aphrodisiac???!!!

With last season’s seiyuus retained, new ones join this season and I only recognized Misaki Kuno as Kyuuma. The rest are Fumi Hirano as Tokiko (Lum in Urusei Yatsura), Kazuyuki Okitsu as Ginga (Andre in Prison School), Shiori Mikami as Nakiri (Historia in Shingeki No Kyojin), Kanae Itou as Yanagi (Saten in To Aru Kagatsu No Railgun) and Ryohei Arai as Taniguchi (Willem in Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasuka Isogashii Desuka Sukutte Moratte Ii Desuka). The opening theme, Setsuna No Chikai by Akari Kitou (featuring Neko Hacker) sounds like traditional music. But I wished the song was kept that way because soon it becomes some modern fast paced rock music and it sounded weird. I believe Akari Kitou is singing in her character as Tsukasa and thus the reason her voice sounds quite bland and flat. I don’t know, sometimes I feel it is lifeless. And is that some special effects imbued with her voice as well? They should’ve left it out. Because it is evident that the ending theme which is also sung by her, Yoru No Katasumi sounds a lot livelier although she is still singing in character. A bit of hip hop element in this moderate piece but at least it’s bearable (uhm, doesn’t part of the song’s lines sound familiar to Aria The Animation’s Rainbow?). I don’t want to complain about the organ background accompaniment…

Overall, this second season is boring as f*ck if you’re not into seeing the happy antics of a newly married couple. Would you like to get spammed in the face with lots of love by them? Then this season is for you. But above everything else, nothing much exciting happens! Unless you’re an anime noob and get totally red and blushing after seeing cute 2D characters kiss onscreen for the first time, it is going to take more than this to convince us veterans. Yeah, short of looking for porn version of this series on the dark web! This is just a decent series trying to tell us that love will always prevail in the end. Well, provided if you find the right soul mate. Then everything in life no matter what you do would be perfect. Otherwise it is all just pure anime fantasy. Don’t we all love to dream of such happy blissful ending…
